Amazing how Tao doesn't even use forehand side for any type of backhand block or hit, does all his backhand blocks and backhand completely from the RPH backhand side. I'm a big fan of his, as a fellow penholder trying to reach 2000, I'm just over 1900 right now.

Eugene entered the lower bracket and played TWZ in round 2, what happened?

He lost to a 2500 dude. The guy that beat him was a beast.

@@SilentArc I suspect he lost to this guy to avoid a tough upper bracket, but just guessing.

Yuan Hu oh haha no. The whole tourney was full of international players and was extremely difficult. Plus, Tao beat Eugene last year La Open so there’s no reason to dump just so he can play him in the first round of elimination. If anything, Tao is one of the only guys I trust that can beat Eugene.

@@SilentArc I like your reasoning, but is still not convinced completely. The player he lost to is Zhigao Si, who's maximum rating is less than 2600. Eugene knew who to face should he won the match against Zhigao Si, which was Yinchi Fang, a former player in Chinese National team B. Should he lost the match, he would play Wenzhang Tao, whom he played many times before. Tao is a tough player, but it is likely Eugene has higher confidence with wining against Tao. Another reason is I still cannot believe Eugene lost the match against a guy rated less than 2600, 0-3. I watched several of his matches in the tournament, he beat player near 2600 easily. In addition, if you check further tournament draw, the upper draw was indeed much tougher than the lower draw, Eugene's match was one of the last RR in the open single, I watched the match also, I guess he knew this all before match with Si Zhigao.
