Great series, we all learned a lot ! As to the silencer, it will only make a noticeable difference when significant volumes of air get sucked in (3000 rpm and up). Its purpose is not to lower the noise (decibel) level per se but just to lower those high-pitched whistling sounds that are so unpleasing to the ear. It should also to a certain point lower the possibility of the intake sucking back exhaust gases. Keep safe and as always, be merry !
the intake, weather the air silencer is on or not, should never have any exhaust getting sucked into it! powerhead should be sealed under cowling. if it does leak, needs to come off and a new gasket installed.

I had a 1976 evinrude 6 hp. Hard to start cold, worked well when started, Difficult to restart when warm. I'm sure it was the thermostat and carb settings!

With Evinrude gone, you could probably make some good coin being able to keep them going.

Those carbs utilized both fixed and adjustable low speed mixture. Used the same style of airbox. In 1989 OMC did away with adjustable mixture low speed valves to fixed jets on the plastic carbs ..I would think not knowing what your original carb had probably fixed is why there is no hole in the airbox,LOL! Only guessing...
No. It had the original plastic top carb on it with a ss needle! If you look up the part # 0396564, it has no hole,LOL! No guessing ! Heeheehee
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 1988 was the last year and transitional for both types of adjustments fixed and hand and yes 1987 did have the s/s screw type. OMC came out with fixed high adjust. because people wouldnt leave them darn mixture screws alone and would screw things up. So they came out with an all climate general adj. jet size to keep your fingers off of them darn knobs good move,LLOL! When are you going to get a late 50S OMC 10-18HP metal cover and get her running sweet???You will love the winding sound they make,HA!

thats the silencer for the primer system carbs that had the LS needle on the side (plastic top ones). can easily get the older choke type.
Hey. No. That's the silencer part # 0396564 that comes on the plastic top carb with the needle in front. And it does or did have the OMC primer pump but I replaced it. That carb is the older style that had a manual choke but I removed it. Thanks again !

Another success for TOO! Nice little motor for a little boat. Going with the smaller jet is better for fuel economy and reliability. Like you said, not your motor.
