The late 50s early 60s outboards are the best

Nice looking motor. I bought a 1963 Polaris snowmobile off ebay for .99 cents. It wasn't anywhere near that shape. But I bought the guy a cup of coffee since I got it so cheap. You will have to expand your projects...I've got a few you do if you run out of them. LOL!

About twelve years ago an eighty-seven-year-old man I met on a camping trip had two old Martin outboards and he asked me if I wanted them. One 1947 the other 1948, and both were Martin 60s which are 7and a quarter HP. Me and a friend took both of those motors apart completely apart overhauled those two motors from top to bottom, painted them put new decals on them. They both run like new. I took those motors over to the old man's house and he said they actually look better than when they were new. Just a little story for you. I have never seen this video before. You did a hell of a job on that 1959 Evinrude also!

Me and some locals here and North Carolina have knicknames for some of these old outboards which is our own language basically which is humorous to some degree. The first knickname for identifying outboards of a certain type is the 1959-61 Evinrudes as we call them refridgerator motors because of their covers resemblance to the boxey shape of a refridgerator, hence a refridgerator motor. The 9.5S made by OMC 1964-73 we call toilet bowl motors obviously to the shape of their covers to a toilet bowl which is the most convincing knickname to motor shape in our language .The 1962-70 5.5,6HP- 40HP Evinrudes we call BostonWhalers because of their somewhat lowerpan cowling sweeping lines resemblance to the hull of a BostonWhaler tri-hull design. Now this is an abstract visual connection mind you. This pertains to the smaller HP motors mostly up to around 40HP. The 1959-61 model line years lower Hp models mostly into the 1962-70 Johnsons we call ducktails with the double points on the 1959-61 models, & duckbills (1962-70)because of the overall shape of the cowlings being narrow just looks like a ducks bill and shape dont ask me why it just does. Also and of course are the 1950S JohnRudes that have split covers or as we call clamshells more commonly coined.Basically those five knicknames again its are own little outboard identification language for these particular motors.Just a fun note from some crazy outboard guys...... Im an outboard mechanic and collector for many years..... Glenn P. in N.Y.

Hopefully on Saturday I’m getting a mid 60s 33hp Evinrude for $20. Looks just like my 28hp speeditwin but the cowl says “electric start” instead of speeditwin. It’s way too clean not to run, new impeller and carb cleanout notwithstanding...hope the guy don’t flake!

I like those 59’s I have a bigtwin and a lightwin , yours is clean ! One added thing , whoever restored it added the fuel pump which is sometimes a good thing but I like the pressure tanks myself ! Lol

Do you like the old Martin outboards? I have two Martin 60's that I restored about ten years ago. One of them is 1947 the other is 1948. A very old man gave them to me and they were a mess when I got them now they look brand new. Mt neighbor then was a retired Ford mechanic and he helped me.

What' this air intake thingy, does it has to service somehow. I have Fastwin 18 hp 1863 and it doesn't like to run on low speed for long time trolling even if I adjust low and high speed knobs but on faster speeds works very well

Thanks for responding didnt catch your name I like your videos?Nice deal for 99cents me being overally generous would of gave him $50.00 only if I had intensions of selling it mind you and not keeping it.Just got done working on a 1969 Evinrude 25Hp bought for $50.00. I rebuilt it two years ago quickie rebuild honed the cylinders and slapped new rings in and never started it till today. Wouldnt start with recoil threw an electric starter on it and it started right up with a jumper pack. Getting to old to pull these things more than 10 times,LOL. Once I ran it awhile it started with the recoil and dialed it in with the mixture and carb timing it runs nice.Just an idea for us older guys keep a spare electric starter and bracket in your tool box to jump these things without pulling them takes seconds to install. Most the engines have the teeth on the flywheels to do this anyway. Same with the later bigger block 25-35HP if you can keep a spare starter on a bracket no pulling. I love these old motors they were so dependable in their day and still are if you fix them right cant beat the late OMC 1950S 18HP 22 cubic inch motors my favorites ...later Glenn P.
