It's hard to believe the R8 is over 10 years old.... I remember having a look at one about a year ago and they still look amazing to this day.

Well after much deliberation and having watched all your R8 videos (plus a few more on here), I’m taking the plunge. I’m picking up my 07 manual R8 on Wednesday. Thanks for the tips regarding what to look for when buying one, they were extremely useful and helped me knock a couple of grand off the asking price. I’m looking forward to the 150 mile drive home.

@@amdaman3 I didn’t buy it in the end. 3 hours on a train to pick it up and it was a dog. The seller hadn’t maintained it as I was lead to believe. Needed lots of bodywork, oil cooler pipes, cheap tyres on the back, lipped brake discs, and missing service history, plus the EML was on. I was so disappointed.
Looking at a 2008 manual R8 here in Australia tomorrow, can’t wait to check it out.
I love my Gen 1 V8. Every time I drive it, makes me feel like a 8 year old at Christmas.
haha war on climate change, hybrid is the reason it won't have a place in your driveway. Funny stuff right there. Life is only a glancing moment. If you can afford the car you like then enjoy it.

That’s the two cars I’m can’t decide between a r8 v8 or an r35
lol same. the only thing that makes R8 more appealing is the manual. if you on a 'budget', I think R8 is better, because in order to get a good GTR you need to look for more recent ones and avoid the early models. if both would be the same price, I'd choose GTR. In the current market I'd go for R8 but only manual version. I'd take any GTR in favor of an automatic R8

Interesting about the steering, hydraulic not being the save-all. The Gen2 R8s are praised for having better steering. But Gen1 looks so much better and the latest iteration R8 is very much try hard andd does nothing for me though they are half price hurricans I wouldn't say no to one.
I was resolved to get a V8 R8 for the longest while saying it's the drivers car, but the V10 appeals also as a true exotic and with lower end shove. I know you can't exploit the V10 on the road but you can the V8. Most reviewes agree with you that the V8 is great on the road. I certainly think 400-450hp is the sweetspot for public roads.
Hi Peter, an interesting note on the steering... rumour has it the team that worked on the gen 1 R8 wanted to develop the feel further but doing so would have blown the budget. The steering isn't bad but you do notice the compromise.
@@ScottishCarClan Matt Watson said that about the steering in his video. Have you driven a V10 too?
So true. It’s a fantastic design and will outlive the mk2. As for the latest design.... Ahhh,!!!!

Did you finally open the cooler and create a rebuild kit?
I'm hoping that with no new manual V8 / V10's coming out ever again these will become a classic in years to come. I know hybrids will be faster but like you said, the R8 isn't all about tenths of a second performance chasing.
I suspect they will mjj4... This very car may be worth a small fortune one day
Just never ever go to Arnold Clark and expect any semblance of a decent trade in figure. They just love to take the piss.

@@ScottishCarClan Aye I just stay down the road in west of Glasgow, pre-covid I used to be up those roads all the time as the run from Campsie glen car park -> Carron valley -> Tak-ma-doon road is a fun one in AWD Focus RS :) not sure how much fun it'd be in the R8 though!
