Aged incredibly well, seriously people give Audi’s crap for being soulless or under steer monsters but this is one of the most gorgeous and fun cars Germany’s ever given us, R8 is brilliant
I've watched Clarkson's review of the R8. When he explained the technical bit, definitely knew it's way different than other Audi RS models.
People mentioning Audi understeer don't have a clue about what is slow in fast out.
Still to this day I would pick a manual v8 r8 over a v10. I remember seeing reviews of it when it premired. And to this day it is still my one of my top attainable dream cars. Exhaust, coil overs, and wheels is perfect for me.
Its amazing to see how good the R8 once looked. Audi has lost the plot so hard. First gen R8 is one of the greats. Looks fantastic as well. Definitely a supercar. That gated manual alone is pure supercar.
Great video! The V8 is a lot of fun! Is it a supercar? I think so... As for the V10, definitely... Bizarrely, some say even the V10 isn't a supercar but usually they're brand snobs rather than true car enthusiasts IMHO.
Great video, and beautiful car. Good to see the SCD fleet growing and always a pleasure working with you.
Hands down a Super car and a classic at that! One of the best R8 videos I have seen....great camera work and commentary. Love the color combo. I own a manual V8 myself :)
Oh, the first one! Oh my God, it's even more beautiful today...in my opinion, this one looks muuuch better than the new gen. Also the interior: that shifter, that dashboard, I really love it!
Thanks SCD for the amazing content this year! Waiting for more Naturally Aspirated Heroes!
PS: waiting for more F50 too, haha!
That has to be one of the best looking car of the last 20 years
It’s absolutely beautiful 😍
I think the reg plate had already given the game away SCD
Good addition to the fleet 👍🏻
I was recently shopping for something that would give me that "my first supercar" experience, and a manual v8 R8 is exactly what I ended up with. Am absolutely loving it so far and cant wait to do the NC500 in it later this year.
I own a carbon fibre and white R8 V8 and I’m 22 I was sceptical of the feedback I would get but honestly every time I take it out people love it which I’m really pleased about. Mine was £45,000 and with the appreciation in price it’s now worth 45/50K. It’s not got a special interior it’s a huge setback but the exterior is fantastic, just driving past people it’s “nice car man” and everyone loves it.
The argument of people saying it’s not a super car is because I don’t think they have one or they’re so busy trying to be the best they belittle others to make themselves better. Truly is a Diablo a super car? Is a Lamborghini Miura a super car? No not by power but from legacy and looks, yes. Yes it is. So is the V8 r8 and no one should tell anyone different.
Honestly, I’m happier with the V8 than the V10 it just doesn’t get much better honestly, a 14yr old car and it looks like it came out yesterday and worth way over £100,000 the videos don’t do it justice. You need to own one to understand.
Fair play for getting yourself behind the wheel of one at 22! Agree it’s a safe place to have your money!
Great vid 👍..had my V8 manual for about 2 months and love it. Sold a 996 Turbo tip. to buy it and glad i did. Such a wonderful drivers car....the Turbo was bloody quick but the V8 is more fun..and still looks fabulous today....its already a classic.
Ah awesome! We had a similar dilemma and went R8. Less clinical, a bit slower but more of an event
The in-car and passing-by shots were somewhat of an improvement over previous vids. Great job. As for the car,at 50 grand not a bad deal.
@@scd the interior looked in mint condition. Clearly been looked after. Nice buy!
To me it's neither sportscar nor supercar but dream car. I am the blessed owner of a 2009 V8 and love my R8 to bits.
Really loved the design! And it’s a manual. Idk but newer one didn’t look much catchy like this one and great review with great cinematic! Keep growing SCD!
The current R8 looked dated by 2017, the 2018 facelift didn't help. Meanwhile these 1st gen models are timeless.
The cinematography in this r8 review is just gorgeous. I could watch these shots of the R8 all day.
I love the first gen R8; it’s aged brilliantly and makes the current one. I know people get hung up on the brand, but I really don’t care. A good. We is a good car especially one that looks this good. They’re bloody good value for money too.
When people say wow, when you drive by, it’s a super car.
Fantastic amount of car for the money! Look forward to following this next July ;)
Still is in my opinion a stunning car. Whether it is a supercar, not so sure given the market for these. But one thing is sure, it is fantastic daily driver. Each corner, each mile, you have a smile on your face. It really does! Got one in my garage just waiting to be driven... Nice tribute BTW. Thanks!
More then the review the cinematics and camera shots are out of this world.
I love the first generation of the R8. I bought my, of course, manual V8 almost three years ago and I just like it more and more, especially the design.
My favorite supercar of all time. I love the R8 V8, I remember seeing one in this exact spec on the back of a trailer, (brand new). It looked so cool, and with the LED lights, it really popped put over other supercars at that time. It wasn't the fastest but it was just right and still is right. I can't wait for the day to own this amazing machine, it will seem so surreal.
Very much a supercar.
I picked up an 08 gated manual last year and it's a blast overall. the first and only 2 modifications I did was adding a titanium straight pipe exhaust for a much better sound and converted it to rwd. much better driving experience now.
It's a super sports car. From day 1. And one of the best designs until today
Your right about the gearbox it's the second nicest I've ever tried behind mk1 mx5
I’ve got one and it’s a beautiful thing. With so many of the new cars with ‘PDK’ you could be driving anything, this is very different to them and at 40k will always be a great entry to Supercar ownership.
holy hell! If I may, what are you guys filming this with? It's like watching a live Rembrandt. Came for the car, stayed for the visual... and the car obviously ;)
Definitely a supercar and with the manual gearbox just like the one I had a track day in some years ago
100% a great supercar. Mine was an '08 and thoroughly enjoyed driving it through the canyons in Salt Lake City. For me, it was the perfect blend between supercar and sports car. I very much enjoyed having the car and the purchase process with the private party in Canada was even better. It was very personal and the import process was a nail biter but I had all my documentation which allowed for a really awesome experience. I would and probably will buy another R8 at another time again.
Who cares what people call it; super design, lovely V8 and a gated manual. Awesome, awesome car! It is a keeper. Lovely video by the way.
@@scd Thanks for the great content. Hope to meet you guys in person some day.
Hey jonty, love the R8s. My son has a lot to do with engineering specialist parts for them 😏
Regarding the term supercars v sports car. I used to own a Italian supercar but as the years go by it has turned into an Italian sports car 😂😂
Great video as always guys 😁
Like the MP4-12C it has aged so well, just the likes of the indicator stalks show its age but a manual, V8 R8 can only appreciate as time goes on...
straddling the line between a potent GT & a supercar but regardless I'll never have a chance to find out for myself 😔 Great video
Jet Blue is the best color hands down
The overall design reflects the mature perfection of the 2000s.
No try-hard futuristic, no silly plastics.
Completely agree about Jet Blue, and it's looking even better with age. I had one of these in Jet Blue for six very happy years. In fact, from a few clues in this video, I have a feeling that this might in fact be my old car. Looking so good.
I'm fortunate. Mrs Shed would have one of these, or a V10 Lambo, or a V8 Vantage, Mustang or Conti GT in a heartbeat.
Gen 1 gated V8, my favourite of them all
If I didn’t have a Porsche Boxster, and I had the money I would buy this one.
I remember seeing this car featuring the second transformers film, it was a terrible film, but the scene this car was in was very nice.
Unfortunately, this car played a villain and it was sliced in half.
Very 'top gear' feel to this video. Congratulations.
I got exactly this model in black, this was always my absolute favorite car and still is, especially in black with the original silver or black wheels the car looks like it came out today.
Same here ….got mine new in August 07 . Black with black wheels , and Quicksilver exhaust . 20k miles on her :)
My dream to own, all I need and want when it comes to a super car, I could work on it and afford to own it with my other vehicles, can tune the engine where I’d want the power and gated manual. Something I could actually obtain and drive, people always say they don’t like it’s the engine from the other car they make but it’s at least got a dry sump.
The V10 is a supercar, the V8 is a sportscar. - That's where I draw the line on the R8 in my opinion.
Driven one on track, Great car. Agree the manual is epic
Had a drive in this and I could drive it on roads at 9 tenths was a s tronic convertible but it was still a really really good
1st gen v8 manual is the best R8 to me. Absolute modern classic.
Such a good decision. I say its a sports car and thats a compliment I believe
I like a base model all type a car, that really a great value for money, and very fun if you wanna keep it for long time
Very nice. Such an elegant design. Where’s that road?
Sean McVeigh is looking for a new gigs. Lol
We bought one last year, and have loved every minute of owning it! 2010 Manual with 9k miles on it in Daytona grey.
Would this be accepted in the SCD club?😉 would love to join👍🏽
Definitely a supercar imho. 2 seater mid engined that looks amazing. The best supercar you can use as a daily for sensible money. Just make sure it's a manual and Enjoy the bejesus out of it. Perfect size and enough power for our twisty Yorkshire roads too. What's not to like.👍👍
I didn't think mine was - then I straight piped it (well, X-pipe but no resonators or muffler) and it sounds like a fucking Ferrari and gives me more smiles than my Ferrari ever did.
True heaven. Gated manual and V8 NA :)
Of course it is, and reliable and comfy....
We try to find tunnels just to hear it lol we are not going to modify the exhaust system it be to crazy the v10 is nicer though 😊 maybe one day before they go up in price
fookit, i'm sold.
Absolutely, a useful, sensible SUPER-car!
If they kept making the V8 Manual + the old look, I think it would be a great rival to the GT4
I've always had a love of the original V8 R8. Simple, clean and it's aged finer than most wines. BuT tHe V10 Is FaStEr - that's not the point. You're not comparing a V6 Mustang to a GT, this is far above that level. This is a car to enjoy having a civilized supercar.
Manual = Supercar
Auto = Sportscar
People have no idea just how rare the manuals are!
"Near as makes no difference" line is lifted straight from Jeremy's OG review of the thing.
I've always loved the r8 especially in white but would still be a tough choice between the r8 and a 911 carrera s
I fell for an R8 GT in white... Spyder though... But so love it. Can't believe it's mine!!
Thought good luck finding one for even close to what they quoted in the video. Maybe an auto but not a gated manual.
It's a supercar. No doubt about it 👍 And the original R8 is the best looking R8 too.
Does it suffer from the same chain tensioner problem considering it's the same V8 engine?
Prices are practically half in the UK compared to the US, but got one anyway lol. Its a super car to me, though I do second guess if I should have gone V10 or not.
It’s my dream car ones it released in 2006
The R8 with either engine has the formula of a supercar. Mid-engined, produced in small numbers, manufacturer's halo car, and the head turning looks. If you're referring to 2007 definition, its definitely a supercar. If you are comparing it to 2021 supercars, you're doing it all wrong. This car is a future classic, especially with the gated manual.
I'd definitely call it a super car low sleek and mid engined.
We love our r8 🤪
I don't care if it's a "super car" or not; they are great to drive. Had mine for over 8 years and I still get excited when I approach it with key in hand. They are not cheap to run however.
With the manual it's 100% a supercar
The price to replace the a/c compressor took this out of the running for me.
What colour code is this?
That R8 is more of a supercar than a 911
It’s a sports car to me
But I’m sure i will enjoy falling it on the tours
A sports car is something that is rwd, nimble, agile, great balance and handling. Best examples are the Miata or Honda s2000. The R8 v8 is definitely still a super car just like the original NSX.
My dream Car 🤫
The one think about that gen r8 is the interior is rubbish at that price range back then ....however everything else About it was brilliant
Call me crazy but this is my favorite R8 out of them all. V8. Manual and those smooth looks. Love it. Plus it's a nice reminder of the first Iron Man movie 😂
Looks so much better than the MK2 R8
Add in the recaro bucket seats (must have) and I totally agree with you. Actually had to google to find some online, as they are super-rare it seems. Much more of the V10 with the buckets.
It's a lot of fun, but the one that I think beats them all is the R8 GT (but I may be biased) 😅
I was 10 when that film came out and I thought that R8 was the coolest thing ever. However, many years later I still think its an amazing car and its as good looking now as it was then.
Agree, but needs to be an interesting colour, like this one. Too many daytona grey and black ones floating around. Manual, of course.
