  • The second segment from my short afternoon 'hit n run' mission, slow pitch jigging and fishing a wreck out of Torquay in Lyme Bay, English Channel.
    It's not one of my small group charters, it's just me on my own, fishing and passing on a few tips.
    Whether you want to fish your way, or learn more from me, you can book a small group or private charter with me on Silver Halo. I offer lure and SPJ fishing, as well as Atlantic Bluefin Tuna fishing.
    All the tackle I use here in these videos is thoughly tested and proven and available over at my JOKER Jigs and Lures online store. You can also try before you buy on a fishing charter with me

    I hope you find a few things useful?
    Many thanks for watching Matt.

    Another excellent session Matt…in a short weather window how brilliant and effective the joker jigs are…shame about the loss on the last drift!

    When getting hung up on a sticky bottom, I don't use my SPJ rod to try and get the jig unstuck. I use my hand and give the line some quick tugs and allow the line to get limp in between pulls. The rod doesn't allow for the line to loosen or tighten quickly, which usually frees the jigs from bottom, for me.

      yes I know what you mean but I really worry about putting my rod down when snagged on the bottom while the boat is drifting. Even when you give yourself some slack line to work with, its just too easy to get tight and find your rod in a dangerous situation, the tips can snap too easily! I much prefer to keep hold and try and let the jig fall out of its hook hold. If its stuck in net or rope though its probably staying there.

      @@JOKERjigsandlures I don't put the rod down. I point the rod at the snag with one hand, and with the other hand, grab the line between the reel and first guide, and give it a few quick tugs. It may surprise you how well it works. I learned the technic while bass fishing a very long time ago. No lie, I've lost one jig to the bottom in 8 years of SPJ fishing.

      @@andrewrollins4898 thats good going, if I can get the jig to fall off its snag in the first feww seconds its easy, if its stays stuck longer it alwaus gets harder to release but will try that. thanks 🙂

    Great video and plenty to learn 👍🏻 looking at your rod I can see that the guides half way through are facing down . Doesn’t the line scrub into the rod?

    • @JOKERjigsandlures
      @JOKERjigsandlures  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      thanks for the comment, no the line is kept off the rod nicely, they are spaced correctly to avoid rubs and this spiral wrapping can help with reducing rod twist and line wraps on the tip. A bit weird to look at but once you get used to it its good

      @@JOKERjigsandlures interesting not gonna lie especially with the line wrapping around the tip which happens . I’ll give it a go 👍🏻

      Im using Palmarius P+ jigging rods in power 0, 1 and 2 in my videos The reels are usually Shimano Ocea jiggers, 1500 size, I can provide both if you're interested? thanks for asking.

    £400 for a reel, ouch. any tips on a cheaper one? :)

    • @JOKERjigsandlures
      @JOKERjigsandlures  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Ocea actually retails at around £470 in the UK! Crazy money but they are really nice reels. Cheaper options could be the Gomexus but that gets mixed reviews, its a good starter though, there's is also a new reel by Savage Gear SGS that could be worth a look, thats £290ish, but Ive not tried one yet?

    Hi Matt have you noticed which end of the lure bass and pollock prefer ? 🎣👍

    • @JOKERjigsandlures
      @JOKERjigsandlures  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've not really thought of looking at the possible differences in the way different species may hit the jig? I know most my takes are when the jig is falling or on the bottom so its only natural that the lower hooks get most contact, especially when the jigs falling or going backwards, I think its important to have hooks there

      @@JOKERjigsandlures I’m beginning to think I’ve noticed bass on the eye end of the lure more than pollock which seem to be on the opposite end of the, of course I could be wrong but I’ll keep watching 🎣👍

      @@user-ol8sy2qe3c interesting, I will make a mental note once I start seeing more bass. I will say Ive had a few occasions where Ive caught 2 bass at the same time on a jig haha, 2x 5lbers one day!! 😅
