Very informative video! These reels have opened up the deeper fisheries for the recreational fishermen. I want to add a precautionary tip. When, not if, you get hung up on bottom structure, don't lock up the reel and try to break off the line. It's very possible to damage the mechanical components of the reel and ruin the rest of your day on the water. Once you have made the decision you can't free your jig, use a knot puller or a small section of PVC pipe or even a cleat on the boat to break the line.
Phenomenal video on explaining all the features on the G300J which I just purchased. I haven’t used it yet but have been reading through the booklet and at first it’s a bit intimidating. This is the most informative video yet on reels that you have produced. I have several multi-day deep drop trips coming up and can’t wait to use it. I can’t believe how much power is in the reel. The G series has a stronger torque and stronger engine. My friend has the G300J and swears by it. I’m going to pair it with my Temple Reef Innovate 7’8 H 250-650g or the Spathe Deep III. I have used much larger electrics but only for bait and the were a bit cumbersome especially if you had to chase a fish down the rail. The one tip that you mentioned was upgrading to a SPJ knob. Thanks again for such an informative video. Jig On
Was wondering what type of shoulder bag or one that attaches to your belt that is waterproof so you can walk around the boat when a sea monster drags you around the boat…. Thanks again
I am fishing 2 Daiwa 3000 for deep water and 4 1200 for trolling and reef bottom and now 2 j400 I am learning jigging. I never heard of the drag sound. This is our biggest problem not knowing when we are hooked up and being spooled. Thanks for a game changer tid bit ! coming to your store next week from our Palm Beach dock.
Our stores here on the outer banks just started carrying some of your jigs I couldn’t be more excited to get some charters on some goldens and grouper (well mainly for me to get on them FOR the charters)😂
I've been thinking of getting one of these for my 60th bday. Thanks for the in-depth discussion on it. What are your thoughts on the inline rods I've seen y'all using on the long-range trips? I tend to have problems wrapping the tip when slow-pitch jigging.
They are great rods. It will 💯 eliminate tip wrap. If you do decide to buy one and have any questions please feel free to call the shop. Our staff is top-notch and super helpful 👌
Need details on the spec between Leobritz, Seaborg and MJ..from cheapest to high end, need to know whats thier differences eventhough thier drags are same for model 300,500, 600, 800..advance thanks..
Just got a 400j and had it spooled at a local shop. Any recommendations on how to input the amount of line without having to un-spool the whole thing? I already know how many yards it on it, but I get an error when I hit okay using the P1 setting.
Do you boys think the G400 could handle a yellowfin? I’m going to try and find out but I’m curious if you think it’s strong enough after using it I have a couple banax 500s that have been working well and I have confidence I can get anything in the boat with that thing, but unfortunately it doesn’t come in left hand like most electric reels that are on the medium size
G is highspeed 6.0:1 and non G is 5.0 :1, all of them are good motors. It is the retrieve speed that made the difference. G and non G have the same drag values.G has 16 ball bearings, non G has only 12. This is why the G models is 40 percent more price than the non G.
So retrieve & numbers of the bearing is the difference….i wonder if it’s worth the upgrade. Maybe just buy the G400J instead if you already have non-G 300J..
@@johnsmith-xd9ej I own the non G and I am happy using it for bottom fishing. The waters where I fish are not too deep for slow pitch jigging where this high speed excels.
Love the video and made me subscribed! I'm currently using beastmaster 2000EJ, but the drag and power is not quite enough when hauling in 10kg+ fish. So looking to upgrade to either the Seaborg G300J or G400J. I know you are using G300J as your main, but if you can choose again would you change to G400J or stick with G300J? My local suppliers don't carry them on stock or I can't compare them hands on.
Hey Karna7122, Thank you for subscribing. I would have and now currently own a G400j. The size difference isn't much, but I like having the extra line capacity.
I'm assuming you will be deep dropping with this reel. Here are a couple of options johnnyjigs.com/products/copy-of-johnnyjigs-pro-jigger-plus-slow-pitch-jigging-rod?variant=46733061587226 johnnyjigs.com/products/oceans-legacy-elementus-61?variant=39384157552739
@@JohnnyJigsTV I would like to use this type of reel for chumming for carp fishing. It involves at least 50 casts in a row. I used to do that with a 12 foot carp rod and a spinning reel. Casts are usually 200 to 250 feet. I can't do it anymore because I have developed shoulder problems from excessive reeling. That's why I'm asking about an electric reel. Can they cast 200 feet and retrieve a spod weighing a few onces (plastic device for chumming corn or other particles)? Thank you
@SciD1 honestly for that kind of use I wouldn’t want to steer you wrong. They can cast and retrieve a decent sized fish, they do get stronger with the various sizes and types but I can’t tell you yes or no.
You mentioned a very real problem, which is that we accidentally retain the gear lock reel when we crank it and damage the lock assembly. It already happened to me with the Daiwa Seaborg G400J reel and I'm looking for the repair kit. Do you have the repair kit for sale?.... Thank you.
I noticed when you got into the menu of the reel it was all in Japanese. Do you use the JDM version or the American version or do both have English in the menu?
@@JohnnyJigsTV There seems to be a pretty substantial price difference in US market vs JDM seaborgs. I understand that warranty will not be honored but do you know if US Daiwa would service a JDM Daiwa granted its payed out of pocket?
Highly informative. I've never considered one but I might now. Do you have some sense of how accurate it is when you want to drop down x number of feet?
Just a suggestion but your ship ship just power each one up in your stock and change them to English lol, I’d be the one to get lost in the Japanese menu
I don't know why Daiwa doesn't sell these reels here. I would love to get one but once the electronics go Game over. need to buy a new reel. Daiwa USA isn't servicing it unless you sent to JP. So that's why it's a no go for me dog.
We actually received our first batch from Daiwa USA about 2 months ago. I'm guessing they will be doing a full release this summer. I can understand your hesitation.
UUUUHHH!!! I didn't know or hear about that. That's great news thank you for that Info. Once that happens I'll be at your store for a 400. So save one for me. lol@@JohnnyJigsTV

Forgot to mention that it’s a bag for the battery… Lol
I didn’t see any day & night difference between the 300J & G300J series..
Is it really worth the extra 250€ for the g model instead of the normal one?
You provide useful practical answers to most of my queries on these reels. Thanks.
Johnny , great job explaining those reels.

What was jigging rod you were using on the big grouper…?
Thanks again for more great info Johnny!

What I find crazy about these reels is that I just bought a Tadcom 1200 with rod and line and it was cheaper then just that reel
Wow, guys, 18.5k subs! Doing great!
You remember the days of 200 subs. Thank you, Lenny for being there from day one

I would go through the spooling settings like in the video, but don't actually put line on the reel and reset the amount of line like in the video.

Explain how you did that I don’t want to happen to me
Does it hold a charge or does it have to be connected to the battery?
Definition needs a battery. This is the one we use johnnyjigs.com/products/super-lithium-battery-dn1700-ns-with-shoulder-case-strap-charger
Needs external battery power
When they make a rod with built in removable batteries that lasts all day I will get one for drone fishing.
I did it! Did not thread my line through the reel guide and all my lines were on one side.
It happens to the best of us 😂
I noticed when you got into the menu of the reel it was all in Japanese. Do you use the JDM version or the American version or do both have English in the menu?
Both have English but only one has a warranty in the US, and likely ships faster.

seems like you never open any of them… G300j and 300j big difference is in the hand crank ratio… same motor, same drag, same bearing
Thanks for watching, we appreciate your input. 🙏
Lazy ppl only. Electric reels are the lamest thing to ever get produced in the angling market
Electric reels have been around for 40+ years. Back then you had to be handicapped to use one.
Thanks for the info.
