i got this as a christmas present from my daughter. Icould not understand manual. I am a visual learner. Thanks Tyler for showing me how easy this is to use.
Wife wanted one and bought it for her only to find out for $50 I love the espresso double shot. Budget friendly and does the job. Good starting point. Will invest in something more if I get series into espresso but for beginners I like it.
I agree, if I keep using this maybe one day I will get the more expensive machine.

The 8 in 1 claim comes from the mug size guide and the 2 espresso, 2 cappuccino, 2 latte, and 2 americano (single and double). Just like when Rubbermaid sells you a 26 set of plastic ware where they count the lids as a separate piece 😂

I love this machine for the price. I am used to very expensive fancy machine. I've been grinding fine espresso grind in this machine for about a week and it has worked flawless. I drink Americanos only
Great video! Several months and I appear to be having an issue with the milk frother dial locking up, but hopefully Gourmia customer service can replace just that piece under warranty.

Great video. This thing captured me eye too for the price and simplicity. I have one on the way. The frothing level dial I think is important too to control the amount of froth/milk produced. PS: I have an Aeropress as well and love it.

I just got mine it worked fine but now when I turn it on it won’t dispense anything when I click on the button to make a latte it just beeps? any tips?
i bought one of these and all the fancy tools before i realized the dif between a pressurized and unpressurized basket. it over extracts every shot if you let it run til its finished and it also needs to run an espresso cycleuntil water comes out to both preheat and flush the head. otherwise the first shot will always be cold. also the milk steamer stopped working after the internal bracket snapped. its plastic. you can take the top panel clips off and access it more easily than taking out the bottoms screws. i shoved a tennis ball behind the unit to absorb shock and hold it in place while the cartridge is being inserted. worked fine again.
I pulled the trigger on black Friday at Walmart for $50 really satisfied with it and it looks great on my counter

I also bought this machine. Is quite noisy but it does the job. I also found out that if you want to add sugar or some liquid to sweet your drink, you are better of if you add it to your cup before you run a cycle.

If you are using milk, I would. After I’ve had my drink I run the cleaning cycle and then put the milk in the fridge.

I must have gotten a defective one. Got one for wife and it leaks from the stop of the portafilter. No matter how I set it to lock brand new. We can’t seem to figure it out. Taking it back. I tried switching between small and double same thing.
OMG thank you both of our filters did not have the hole in them! We could not figure out why we were only getting 2 oz on everything and the grounds would be extremely wet.

@@Boss_hoss_outlaw I went to the company and they were no hope. So I bought a generic filter on Amazon and it that seemed to help. I will be following up with the company and their lack of customer service.
Mines doesn’t do non of that. I read the whole manual. When I press whichever I choose does not brew.
Had the exact same problem with the single shot filter, thankfully figured it out after the first try. The frothing wheel is very confusing and the amount of the froth is insane in my machine regardless of the setting. But for the price is worth it, and definitely a great introduction to people who want to make their own espresso at home.
Reached out to customer service and they are sending me a new single shot filter. I agree, for the price it's pretty fun and I'm getting good results... hopefully I get some use out of it!
Turn the froth knob all the way to the right/bottom. I hope this helps
Just a little fyi these were actually on the clearance shelves a month or so ago before Black Friday for that exact same price (might’ve actually been less).
@3:00 I have the same problem both my filters are not fully punctured resulting in coffee flowing out from the top and dropping down the handle … so disappointing
i like the looks, getting a decent touchscreen, that is even smart enough to spot the milk is really good, you can buy better baskets and have better crema, but its not a fast machine. its a nice device for flatwhites and latte, but the milk crema is not as silky as you would get with a steamwand. i hope they improve this machine, make it fast and quite with a better frother and ad temperature and a digital pid/manometer on it, but then it would be a 500 dollar machine.
Great video! I purchased the machine as part of Black Friday, but I am not sure if I will keep it. I may gift it to someone. I have seen great reviews. I am new to coffee, and this may be a bit overwhelming for me right now.
It would make a great gift to someone who likes coffee. It’s really not too hard to figure out and can be fun if you have the time to experiment

I bought one on black friday and love mine. I was sick of my k cup machine, this makes better coffee.
Thanks for the video. I think lots of us are wondering about the hole in the filter. I’m not a professional at all this is my first dance with a machine but no matter what filter I use double or single I get literally an ounce or two out and then when I pull the portafilter out of the machine there’s a large amount of liquid sitting on top of the coffee grounds. I think I either have the tiniest hole in the world or nothing at all.
The hole in the filter creates pressure, it's intended. These are pressurized portafilters with pressurized baskets, its a way to get decent pressure for an espresso pull with a weaker pump. If you're getting leftover water, try changing either the coffee grind size or the amount of coffee you're putting in.
Did you ever figure this out? I have the same problem. I put in less coffee and still have the same problem.
I kept mine as well. 50 dollars is a good deal

Hey Tyler, hope you are still replying to questions on this machine. When you run the cleaning cycle, does it run through the coffee filter? Ours doesn’t. Or how do you clean the filter ? How does the filter work? How does the coffee drain out of the filter?
The cleaning cycle just cleans the piping that has milk residue. After each use, you dump the coffee grounds and rinse the filter. You can also give the part where the filter connects a wipe a damp cloth or paper towel.
For us was so good and budget friendly
Add syrup liquid to sweeten your coffee before you make the drink 😉
I got my second replacement at walmart and have the same problem the portafilter handle is broken when I twist to tighten it.
Did you contact Gourmia about it?
I haven’t even gotten to the cleaning cycle part yet to use it! When I attach the filled water reservoir, it immediately drains and leaks all over the counter. Do you know why this might be?
Sounds like maybe a bad/missing spring or gasket on the water reservoir
Anyone else have the issue of the milk dispenser valve not putting out liquid of any kind? Before anyone says it’s not inserted properly, yes it is; when I insert it, I hear a click and then the whole front panel of drink choices lights up. I’ve primed the machine, tried to make cappuccino (the espresso part comes out, but nothing comes out of the silver milk valve), flushed the milk hose out with water, but nothing helps. I’m so frustrated and bummed out.
I had some serious issues as well the only thing that worked for me was to unplug it, take it all apart, and wait 10 minutes and put it all back together. I also couldn’t get it to complete a full cleaning cycle and this fixed that as well.
I really liked this product until I had a problem. Called the support number but received no email. Then emailed from the company's webpage, but still no response. Since they couldn't return an email, I don't see how they could stand behind their warranty. The expresso maker was returned. Thank you.
We just bought this ourselves and cant seem to get the machine to actually start cleaning or brew anything. We select the espresso option and it lights up for 3 seconds and then acts like its going to start and then beeps 3 times and shows all the options again. I have no idea what were doing wrong..

I bought one and was in the middle of a move so I didn’t open it until a couple of days ago. I finally got around to trying it and I can’t get the milk container out of the machine! It takes a lot of force. Am I doing something wrong? Help, please!
Try pulling up, then out. It is a bit tight and takes some force.

yeah, there is a bit of water on top of the grounds afterwards during cleanup
I didn’t have that with my single but I did with my double which I thought was really weird.

I'd imagine you can use any milk... I already had a gallon of 2% cow milk but I'd be interested in trying oat and almond in the future.

Hi I have a question can you share a video how to do black coffee and a hot chocolate by using this machine.
For black coffee, select the Americano. Hot chocolate, try using the manual froth button and add your powder to the cup. Just remember to push the froth button a second or two before you want it to stop because there is a slight delay.
What is the red plastic thing in the drip tray for? Also when I ran the cleaning cycle, water only came out of the milk reservoir. Is that normal or a sign that my filter cup is also not punched all the way?
The red piece floats up as liquid fills the tray to indicate you need to dump the tray. Yeah, normal. The cleaning cycle runs water through to clean the system.

My unit appears to only produce hot milk instead of steamed milk. Also, it produces little froth. I like it, but I will opt to replace this unit if it does not get its act together.
You’ve already tried adjusting the froth dial?
Well we got one I've tried it three times and there's no steam and you know we tried to do the milk and all that somewhere in the middle it says take the wand off the frothing wand and that's the Black cover and I took it off and it doesn't change anything and so I'm not sure what's going on but there's no pressure building up and no steam
Hello, the same thing happens to me, it just beeps but there is nothing like pressure or steam.
can we use heavy whipping cream instead of milk in the reservoir?
Probably not. That heavy liquid would probably not get picked up properly by the siphon tube. Also that would make for an extremely rich drink and a week of those would cause you to bloat in weight and have a cardiac arrest and die...and we don't want that. On the other hand, try it and maybe you will discover a new drink and can use it as the basis of a new chain of restaurants!!!!

Got an aeropress, french press and just got a Phillips 1200 series then I saw this thing and was kinda taken back. Cause this thing was 50 bucks and the Phillips was 329. But alas I used the Phillips and can never go back.

Would you be able to add a part or separate video showing what the correct look is for the filter? I think I have the same problem but with both of my filters. I am only getting 2-4 oz drinks regardless of setting chosen.
there should be a tiny hole... if you didn't have a hole, you'd get zero like I was. Are you using a fine espresso grind? I've seen others suggest to go medium. I"m wondering if the fine grind clogs those types of filters.
@@TylerTownsendTravelI meant is the hole supposed to be through the top and bottom? My double filter has a tiny hole on the bottom but not through the whole thing. My single filter has nothing. I tried with both espresso grinds, and medium grinds. I would think that if the filter was my only issue then I would not also see issues with the amount of milk/froth dispensing… which I do.
@@jamesfleming7200should have a small hole on the bottom and a screen inside the filter with many small holes.
My single filter gives a plastic taste. Need to check the hole on it to see if it's a defect.

Several issues...mine didn't seem to heat up very hot at all. The instructions claim that when the power is first turned on that the machine will beep three times, and the icons will flash until the unit is pre heated.Mine did not flash at all , and I noticed that the machine in the video did not flash. When I made a capachino, I used the larger filter, made a double and thought it didn't have enough coffee flavor at all. I guess it could be because the machine wasn't heating the water up enough to unlock the flavor of the coffee. It seemed like all frothy milk with very little dark coffee color or flavor, plus I had to microwave it for a bit to get it to the right temperature, it may have been 120 degrees. I also had to return not one but two units to Walmart that were broken. Does anyone have a unit that has the flashing icons when you "first" turn it on?
Mine doesn't flash, and also doesn't heat well.

I bought this for $50 during Black Friday and my control panel doesn’t light up. I can only use the expression option. Any ideas on how to activate the other options? I’m taking this back if I can’t get it to work.
The milk compartment needs to be installed correctly into the machine for all of the options to illuminate.
Agree Milk Reservoir must be attached properly.
I also agree this happened to me and I had to unplug the machine for a while and when I was trying to prime it. It wouldn’t go through the full cleaning cycle for whatever reason.
Another reviewer didn't have the filter issue. So it seems you got the short end of the stick

I just wish you would've mentioned the adjustments you made to perfect it. I'm here because I've had one and don't know how I feel about it. Why did you use a medium grind, shouldn't it be fine grind?
I’m actually pretty new at this and still making adjustments. The reason for the medium grind is that this machine uses a pressurized filter, not the open bottom type filter. There is more discussion on this in the comments of my other video that details trouble shooting tips for the machine.
@@TylerTownsendTravel thanks I'll check it out. Just looking for tips on perfecting the best cup with this thing. My girlfriend and I opted for a fine blonde roast and our results seemed really odd to me. My cappuccino was pretty strong and her latte was extremely weak. We're just trying to figure out if going for a med to dark roast is the answer or maybe I screwed up using fine grind.
Mine isn’t putting the correct amount of milk in the cup and will not froth. Did you have this issue at all?
So some things to try is make sure the straw in the milk container is secured in, fill up the milk tank half at least half way. Make sure you push it into the machine till it clicks and all the options are on the display, and lastly the little dial on the milk container isn’t turned to off or clean.
And when you are done with the milk, just turn the dial to clean and give it a cleaning before taking it out and store the left over milk into the fridge.

@@dawnmarie333not sure what you mean. On top there's a metal filter with a bunch of holes, underneath should just be on hole for the liquid to come out. On some the bottom hole isn't punched out, aka there's just metal there no hole

Aeropress: problem is that it is all plastic and you know about plastic and hot water. Right? I mean chemicals sealing into your drink? If you are health conscious, you would never recommend anything for consumption where plastic comes in contact with heat.
Not real pleased with mine. Doesn't get the water really hot plus outside of Espresso it has a strange taste to it, sort of a plastic taste for lack of a better way to describe. Maybe the taste will go away with use but so far I'm really disappointed.

You must be doing something wrong I've been making coffee with this since Friday and every shot I've made has been strong. If you don't do it right even an expensive espresso machine can make watery shots

I’m having the same issue. My espresso shots are very watery and no crema.
@@jeanniemosley6894 if you're using something with a thicker grind like Folgers maybe try something with a finer grind. Try to make sure your grounds are evenly distributed maybe take a toothpick and stab it a bunch of times before you Tamp it and then make sure to Tamp it good. My wife has said something about my shots seem to be getting stronger even
