    Hi Mark,could you discuss the differences in steaming technique with one-hole, two-hole etc steam wands? I have an Astoria with a five-hole tip and it seems to work best in a vertical rather than slanted angle. Thanks, Ken

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Ken, Thanks for the question. I find technique can differ based on number of holes in the tip. Multi-hole tips with the steam power to back them up can make the roll happen without the angle. As with all things espresso many variables involved so pitcher type, milk amount and desired froth figure in. Guessing your Astoria has power to spare!

    Sir i have just started working in a coffee shop and I am learning the art of frothing and latte art but I am not been able to froth milk as per the needs for a cappuccino..... Should the tip of the wand be just above the milk and I hear the hiss sound and when the milk starts rising I lift the jug up... Please let me know... Thank you sir

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi WS, Thanks for the question. Regardless of type of milk froth desired the steam tip should never be above surface of milk. That'll make a mess! Always turn steam on with tip slightly below surface of the milk.

    2:19 1. Use a 12-ounce pitcher.
    2:52 2. Start with milk that's as cold as possible.
    3. Chill pitcher if possible.
    3:00 Fill to just below beginning of spout.
    4:15 4. Purge steam from wand before steaming.
    5. When done, wipe wand with towel to keep milk from hardening on wand. Purge again to remove milk from wand.

    French press makes the best froth milk. Change my mind?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi AB, IDK... I've used mechanical/agitation based frothing devices and never been able to produce a froth fine enough for pouring latte art. Not only does a fine froth give the capability to pour latte art the creamy mouthfeel is a world away from the coarse airy froth typical of mechanical frothers. Beyond that there's an ease of use factor. Frothing on a semi-auto machine is a one step process which gets the fine air bubbles into the milk and heats at the same time. Depending on the machine it takes about 10-20 seconds to complete the frothing process and there's no repetitive plunging motion required. I imagine if french press did the best froth baristas everywhere would be dumping the steam wands and plunging presses. So how did I do? Convinced?

    • @alexandrebrard
      @alexandrebrard 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whole Latte Love I feel we could have two ways: steamed and mechanically. To me French press doesn't alter the integrity of the milk by adding boiling vapored water, it's faster, fluffier doesn't require the use of the wand neither the use of a milk frother. Just 1 min in microwave is enough to gently warm the milk. And not using the steam wand allows me to preserve the state of my espresso machine to a better longevity. I am very satisfied using my French press all the time now. So it feels that using the steam wand is a way to make it complicated and not really efficient.
