    Apple's 2020 base $1299 13" MacBook Pro hasn't changed very much compared to last year, but it is a better deal because it now comes with a 256GB SSD for the same price.
    The 2020 high-end $1799 13" MacBook Pro has changed A LOT! It now packs a 10th-Gen 2.0GHz Intel processor with 16GB of faster RAM and a 512GB SSD!
    There are also some hidden changes that you won't know about unless you look on the inside, which we did! We took off the back covers and took a look at the fans, the speakers, the batteries and more!

      But was disappointed in one area where in final cut the new base model is faster than old base model for obvious reason and no it is not the optimization it is the ssd it is faster than the old one and the drive speed contributes more than cpu in this situation

      The opposite worse. You end up spending money for cheap tech that you don’t need like a new Raspberry pi every year release or the knock off. Even the expensive ones that go up to 500 because oh it’s only 500. But just one mac every 5-10 years is useful and it never seems to be needed for an upgrade. Just a 10 year old Mac looks old.

    • @BennyWheelie101
      @BennyWheelie101 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cameronmonks1561 I wouldn't compare a Raspberry Pi to a Mac - completely different use cases. I use the Pi for small Linux based projects, like automation, Pi hole, electronics, for the price and power consumption.
      I would however compare the cheapy $300-400 laptops with your point. I agree, if you plan on having something quality and long-lasting, you'll need to pay for it.

Hm if you have enough money instead of going for the air you should get the new MBP I recommend the $1800 one since the performance is quite better then the $1200. But since I’m not gonna be able to get the $1800 MBP ima get the $1200 one since the performance is better for video editing then on the MBA

      I guess the $1800 will only get heat up during extremely heavy load. As you can see the comparisons in the video, under moderate work load, it is easier for the $1300 model to get heat up and higher fan speed. I agree with Max that Apple has aggressively tuned the $1800 model to be able to max out its CPU capabilities when the application software demands so, probably due to its dual fans.

    Great review, it makes me question my decision to buy the base model, I like the performance so far for developing web applications, but if I had known the dual fan and better speaker system is only in the high end model I'd probably selected that (still thinking if I should return this one and upgrade)
    I mean for $500 bucks extra you get:
    - 256gb extra storage
    - 8gb extra ram
    - better cpu
    - dual fan setup (= less noisy high rpm fan)
    - better sound system
    - 4 usb-c ports
    and overall a more future proof setup..

    Great video Max! I had a question regarding the 32GB LPDDR4X of the 13" MBP ram vs the 32GB DDR4 of the 16" MBP. The upgrade from 16GB to 32GB for both is $400, but what's the difference in performance between the two types of RAM. I know LPDDR4 is "low power," but is it 10% slower, 20% slower, etc? I'd love to know.
    Also for the $1800 Macbook Pro, is it worth it to upgrade to the i7, or is that pointless because the laptop will never reach the peak turbo clock speed due to thermal limitations. Thanks :)

    • @iamunknownperiod3355
      @iamunknownperiod3355 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Soul It’s both faster and lower power. But RAM speed should not be a factor in your buying decision. It’s not that significant.

    • @AswanthSelva
      @AswanthSelva 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iamunknownperiod3355 Why do you say that it is not significant?

    • @iamunknownperiod3355
      @iamunknownperiod3355 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For day-to-day tasks, you definitely won’t notice it. For video editing, especially CPU-based rendering, there might be a difference but I really wouldn’t call it significant especially if you’re comparing LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X which is just a minor revision of the DDR4 spec.
      AMD systems, on the other hand, interfaces with the RAM slightly differently and there might be a more pronounced difference but I still wouldn’t call it significant. This is not an AMD system though.
      You might be confused with the frequencies and you might associate it to CPU speed. But please take note that the frequency of RAM dictates how fast data can be moved in and out of the RAM. While CPU frequencies refer to how fast data is processed. There aren’t many workloads that requires that much data exchange between the cache and the RAM, given rhe amount of cache in modern CPUs and how optimized compilers are nowadays.
      Anyway, I realized I should have just given a link to benchmark test of how RAM affects performance of various workloads but there you go, you can just google those if you want.
