      I thought I wanted the $1799 MacBook Pro 13 with 512GB but after watching this, I’m more confused. Maybe I do need the 16 in MacBook for my video editing. I do fashion vlogs and I haven’t really ventured past iMovie for editing. I’m now wondering if the 16 would benefit me in the long run?????????

    Greg, the best video I've watched from you, and the best all models comparison I've ever watched from anyone.
    What in particular did I like? You comprehensively covered capacity and performance differences between the range of MacBooks without becoming bogged down in synthetic benchmark measurements. That appealed to me as a prospective buyer from the perspective of a "non-professional" user. You also showed your understanding that buyers don't necessarily fit into the marketing for each model which has become a lazy cliché with lots of other TH-camrs.

  • @dbloyd2

    To me the choice is either a iMac desktop (fully loaded) / minimal Macbook setup or a fully loaded Macbook Pro. Part of me likes having just one Mac to do everything but I feel like I get a better experience when I separate my laptop from my desktop.

    • @dray2882
      @dray2882 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      honestly start out with the desktop and then decide whether you need the laptop. you’ll probably find that the desktop can handle a lot more than the macbooks. honestly i would deck out a desktop and then settle for a nice hp laptop for less $ but with most of the same things. and im an apple fan, but their macbooks are so expensive.

    Also when i connected my razer cynosa keyboard (turned off backlight) and wireless razer mouse, the battery drains even worse. I got around 4 hours of normal usage (Microsoft Word and safari).

    I got the $1799 MacBook Pro, as in my case I wanted 512GB of storage and 16GB. You can upgrade that in the $1299, but then it's just a little bit more to get the $1799, which comes with that as standard. So what I say is to get the $1299 if you're planning on keeping it stock or just upgrade the RAM, but if you're planning on more upgrades, then it's better to go with the $1799.

    Well I made it to the end of the video, but you’re right I didn’t care about the goof. Hehe. Also I love that you’re adding more humour in to your videos! I went with the 4 port model 13” MacBook Pro. Didn’t know about the lower battery but oh well, my 12.9” 2018 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard & Trackpad will be my mobile computer I take to work (when we can go outside again....I miss the sun) & the 13” MBP will be my home “desktop.” I couldn’t afford the 16” MBP, I wanted that but your US starting price for that is actually the Canadian price for the 4 port 13” MBP. So the 16”, add an additional $1000 CDN plus taxes and AppleCare+, it just wasn’t financially feasible. And I don’t have the space for an iMac, but those haven’t been updated recently anyway. I wanted the 10th gen processors & dual fan setup for longevity, my last MBP was a 15” from 2009 and I plan on keeping this MBP for a long time too. I’ll probably update the iPad Pro before I update the MBP. I know Apple devices are expensive but they last, case in point that 2009 MBP. It still works but hasn’t received a software update for like 5 years at this point. Overall great video Greg, keep them coming. Wish you had some Canadian affiliate links so I could help your channel out. Looking forward to my 13” 4 port MBP to arrive mid-June.

      @@dray2882 That is with everything, though very subjective in every case. I have a desktop and my laptop. I have dedicated the laptop for work and desktop for everything else and for work that my Macbook just can't handle, like simulating random graphs that take 100+GB RAM. And now that Apple announced the move to ARM I think I'll wait and see how it pans out, I'll be skipping the first generation (if my MacBookPro doesn't die before that) and see then if I'll choose between the last Intel models or the new ARM ones.
      And it seems that we're having a big generational jump with all computer parts coming the next few years. DDR5 is coming out, PCIE 4.0 and 5.0 are here. PCIE 4.0 just came to consumer devices and PCIE 5.0 in some highly specialised hardware. AMD, Nvidia going to TSMCs 5nm manufacturing process, Intel finally getting 10nm manufacturing process scaled to proper yields. RTX coming to GPUs, new display technologies such as mini-LED and micro-LED. The manufacturing processes are mostly marketing fluff, Intel is still king in x86 single core speeds, but AMD's architecture is better in multi-core approach. I'm not going to be early adopter in anything ever again so I'll wait patiently until I get benchmarks and reviews on anything I buy. And I might buy the previous years best in order to save quite a bit of money.
      I won't be waiting for everything to come up, but I think I won't be buying the most expensive stuff until everything seems more stable again. I'm using 7700K in my desktop and the new 10700k is like 10% faster in single core, but much better in multi-core performance. 10% in 6 years doesn't speak volumes, I'm more interested in power efficiency than paying more for diminishing returns.

    I ordered the MacBook Air but ended up canceling before it shipped and went with the MacBook Pro instead with the 10th gen i7/16/512. This is a do-it-all personal/work from home machine for me and I really needed the extra ports and power. I just used it all week for work and it’s just perfect. The 16 inch is just too big for me because I also wanted something small and light that I can throw in my backpack and not feel like I’m carrying around an external monitor on my back.

    But now I’m really torn between the MacBook Air and the entry level MacBook Pro. I need a reliable notebook for at least the next 5 years because I’m going to start studying in Oktober. In my opinion, the MB Air would be the much better deal if there weren’t those heat issues with the core i5 quad core. I heard so much bad stuff about it overheating by just doing simple tasks like browsing in the internet so most reviewers recommended the core i3 dual core because of those problems.
    But I don’t think that the dual core MB Air will be as powerful and durable as the MacBook Pro in future so I consider to rather buy the entry level MB pro even though I would not need its performence right now.

    Acording to my Concurrency class level 500. Having more cores and threads is actually bad for your computer if you will be doing minimal work. After 16 threads and 8 cores the level of performance a computer can achieve starts to cap out. The way we move forward is using concurrency in our code. Making you code run concurrent better yet make all your code lock free and lineriazable will make ur laptop lighting fast bruhh..

      Look, Apple made the bad cooling on MBA 2020 on purpose so there is a performance gap between MBA and MBP - if it was a fanless laptop, it would have been different story. They also increased (already overpriced) cost of memory upgrade for entry level MBP 2020 on purpose, because not much customers were willing to pay a lot more $ (especially in Europe, where entry level upgraded to 16gb did cost about 500EUR less than higher end model with new cpu with only a little bit better performance) . If you want to have a web browsing and/or multimedia consuming machine, you should definitely not buy MBA, but other laptop: 1. Much cheaper with same/better performance and mobility 2. Better laptop for the same price 3. MBP base model for more, but you get more too. Let's not make any excuses for their actions, the cpu in MBA is good enough, but the fact that fan is not actively cooling the cpu, but case only is a sad tragedy.

      Robert dante When someone upgrades cpu and ram on MBA, I assume he cares about the performance. If that’s the case, then definitely go for the MBP, because the MBP (even the base one) has a better cooling system so it can sustain long CPU intensive tasks. Many people’s benchmark tests and real life tests have proved that. If we consider the price, double the RAM on the new base MBP only needed $100, or $90 with an education discount, which is cheaper than upgrading the RAM on MBA (but Apple has doubled the price to $200 two days ago). Anyway, in my opinion, MBA is only for people who doesn’t need much power; otherwise, go for MBP, even the base one with an 8th gen CPU would be much capable of doing intensive work than the upgraded MBA.
