sir, i wanted to know , how hard is it to get a trainee job in the hospital as your first job ,after passing both the AMC exams, without much experience , for newly graduated IMG's ?
Hello Chirag. This is a good question. Lets assume that you have identified a position which is a Resident Medical Officer type of job (RMO) where the hospital has not been able to find a local graduate. Firstly, having your AMC Certificate is a definite advantage over candidates with only AMC Part 1. This being said. You will probably be still competing against other candidates who also have the AMC Certificate. Paradoxically too much experience in other settings may count against candidates when going for these RMO jobs. The panel may feel that the doctor has a lot of "unlearning" to do as well as new learning. So often candidates who are recently out of medical school, have the AMC Certificate, who can display good English communication skills and come across as sensible and adaptable in inteview make the ideal candidate for these jobs.
@@CareerDoctor doctor, I have question for you if I am not annoying, can we as IMGs who only have AMC1 to get a Resident Medical Officer job for our first year in Australia or should we pass through a general internship rotation?
Hi not annoying at all. I’m going to do a video about internships. Because there is much confusion about them. They are not available for IMGs. You should target resident and other similar jobs.
@@CareerDoctor we are waiting your video doctor and we thank you very much in advance, Australia seems to be great country for newly graduate doctors but I feel that there is a problem in finding a place in order to get the general registration... I hope that your next video will carry the solution for this problem.
Great video Anthony, thank you for taking the time to explain, great Job. Would you say a practice which has an AON has the power to get some one on board, will it be relatively easy for an IMG with just amc- 1 to get a job in a pracrice/ Hospital with AON please?
Hi Anthony first of all thanks for your informative video, secondly would you please let me know what positions we should search as a IMG who wants to start their work in Australia, as you know psychiatrist should have job offer before assessment by RANZCP and this make the situation hard.
@@CareerDoctor yes I have watched your videos and they helped me a lot to complete my application form for RACP. My question is in the case the RACP thinks that my background as specialist is comparable to Australian specialty. After being assessed by RACP for comparability I need to work some time "under supervision" (peer review) before to be able to register in AHPRA. What kind of job might I apply as specialist since I'm not registered yet, but RACP thinks I'm comparable? Might I apply for a follow position for example? Thank you very much.

Hey Doctor, Love your videos I am planning to apply for provisional registration through the UK competent authority pathway as I have both the exam and experience component. Can you please clarify the following: For Non-specialist IMGs seeking training in Australia 1) DWS or AON do these apply while applying for jobs for non specialist too? 2) When does the 10-year moratorium start( After provisional or General registration) and does the training period also counts in?
Thank you so much for the video. Your videos are realy helping me and i will recomend to friends. I am from an african country and have 3 years postintenship practice. I am intrested in specialising in cardiology if i come to australia. How easy/difficult is it to get a training post in this specialty
Hi Matthew thanks for the positive feedback and thanks for sharing with your friends. Unfortunately Cardiology is one of the specialties that is very popular here in Australia. This is for many reasons but one of them is that because it is procedural you can often make a very good living doing it. If possible I would advise specialising as a general physician as there is more demand for that here.
I get you. Thank you. Which website can i go to to find out more about specialising as a general physician on australia. Is specialist general physician the same as general practitioner?
No general physician is one of many types of physicians covered by the Physician's college including Cardiology. You can check out my post about this advancemed.com.au/blog/specialist-medical-colleges/ There is a link to the RACP (Physician College) website from there.
I did not find the Paediatrics speciality mentioned among specialities in Areas of need vacancies. Are Areas of need declarations for specialists limited to the mentioned specialities?
I have a question about specialty training. I have 2 more years left to graduate from medical school and I want to do my residency in Australia. As far as I know, first thing for me to do is to proceed with the standard pathway to get a general licence. I don't know the steps after that point. How will I apply for the specialty training in cardiology after I (hopefully) get the general licence?
Once you have your general registration you will be able to apply for basic training with the RACP www.racp.edu.au/trainees/basic-training/adult-internal-medicine#entry You need your general registration as well as being accepted into a BT position. Cardiology is highly competitive in Australia.
Where can we find and apply for specialist IMG posts as AON specialist? Do the employer sponsor and supports the Visa, migration process and AHPRA registration?
Have a nice day Dr Anthony and thank you for your clear and explicit explanation. What do advice to start by searching for a job or to go first for registration in AMG? I am an IMG doctor. I would like to ask you about: the specialist pathway for the IMG. How can apply? Is there is an age limit for immigration? Oncology is an Advanced Training program which you enter after completing your basic Adult Medicine training with the RACP, so its around 5 to 6 years in total. Of the various Medicine specialties its probably a little easier to gain entry into and there is certainly lots of demand particularly in rural and regional Australia.

Hi Akhthar. General Registration is one of the criteria for entry into GP training but currently you also need either Permanent Residency or Citizenship. From your description you are also not eligible for specialist recognition as have not done general practice in another country. You may be better off continuing to work in Emergency Medicine if possible. There have been special options in the past via rural general practice but recently a number of these schemes have been closed down. It may still be worth contacting the Rural Doctors Network if your plan is for general practice. Hope this helps. Anthony

+Manu Verma it depends a little on where you are coming from. One of my next videos will explain the standard pathway in a bit more depth. What do you mean by diploma? Do you mean specialty training here? If yes. Then that is eventually possible.
I'm considering anywhere especially rural areas of need. I'm currently in my final year of medical school in the Philippines and I'm interested in applying after graduation. Does having an undergraduate degree from the United States & history of travel to Australia over any advantage? (i.e. IELTS exemption?) I would prefer areas of need in QLD, NSW, TAS. Since I'll be a fresh graduate, what are some options for me? Thanks for your videos. I found them super informative :)
Hi Aiman most GPs (family medicine specialists) in Australia see a range of older patients. There are no official subspecialties in General Practice but if you were willing to focus on elderly patients you would do well. For example nursing homes are often looking to employ GPs to help with their patients. If you wanted to retrain and specialise in Geriatrics you would apply to the College of Physicians - advancemed.com.au/RACP 🖥
