I just took my Rad Rover 6 Plus out for 2 hours today. I live in an area with mostly hills, some steep. During a ride through a local golf course I came upon a medium in length, steep incline. I had it on easy pedaling (level 2-3) with pedal assist adjusted to 5, and nothing. I had to stop and walk the bike up the rest of the incline. I am not a strong rider - so this could just be me. This bike is a beast in weight. I decided to leave the course and go up other steep hills in my neighborhood. When I was in pedal assist 2-3, I still had throttle, but once I went to assist 5, I had nothing. I tried all different things with easy pedaling + assist 2, 3, 4....but once the hill became more steep, there was no assist on 5, OR no throttle with lower levels assist - nothing. I live over a very steep long hill, so now I am wondering if I just shouldn't have converted my mtn. bike to an e-bike since the RAD seems to be a dog.
Yah my RR6 is an absolute tank. I live in the Kootenay mountains Canada. On steep city or trail hills, on PAS 5 I can pdeal up, but it's a lot of effort, and I can feel the resistance. And there is no way my bike could throttle up even moderate hills. I had my bike checked by a Rad tech and he says there is nothing electrically or mechanically wrong with the bike. It's just very poor on steep hills. But I'm 6 ft 180 lbs, so combined weight is over 250 lbs.
Good test, and thanks for mentioning you were getting a workout by choice. Being able to get more of a workout than any of our other bikes, or using only enough power to compensate for the extra weight, or just breezing along, is all possible on the same bike by choice. A lot of people don't seem to know that. In terms of the RadRover 6, I think they did a nice job with the update. They made it more modern and improved features, but retained the usefulness and approachability. Well, except for the missing USB port 😉. I think the lower seat post position in the frame will open this bike to new riders. The good thing about Rads is they are overbuilt, and mine is approaching 4000 miles and still going strong, despite mountain bike trails and multiple crashes! I'm really looking forward to a side by side comparison with a stock Rover 5, and hope you can find a riding buddy that's similar in weight. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching! At the moment the only standard Rad motor I have to compare it to is the one on my RadWagon once it gets fixed. Maybe, I'll happen upon a RadRover 5 :)
Good info. How about an update on shipping backlogs. A lot of people are waiting on bikes. Which brands have good customer service and which ones don’t?
This is a great idea. The struggle is experiences can vary widely with so many factors in play. It would perhaps turn into a comments section full of venting without balance of hearing from all of the happy customers. I've dealt with a few companies and can say without hesitation that Rad has been easy to work with under warranty (this was prior to the TH-cam channel). If you have any other thoughts I'm open to hearing them.
It's my favorite mount so far. We own 3 of them. Check out our ebike accessories list in the description if you want to see our full list and support the channel. Thanks for watching!
@@EbikeEscape Thanks for your response. I did check out your accessories list. And that's what kind of confused me. When I read the reviews on Amazon of that phone mount a lot of people said that it gripped the phone well but didn't grip the handlebar very well and needed constant readjustment because it kept slipping down. That's why I wanted to hear your take on it.
I don't want to say definitively since I haven't done a side by side test but to me it seems like it has more torque. I can only compare to a RadWagon and I'm not sure that is a apples to apples comparison.
Nice. I'm in Canada and have a RadRover 6 Plus on order. Unfortunately they can only send me a 500W battery. How do you think that compares with the 750 on this climb?
Thanks for your video - Question does the RadCity 5 Plus or the Radrover 6 have the Tannus Armour already installed when the bike is purchased new from Rad ? Thanks
Hi Ken, no doubt but I think there are benefits to buying from Rad, the largest seller of ebikes in North America. Those benefits are a bigger deal to some buyers than others. I will address this in my full RadRover 6 Plus review.

How is it when using no assist ? is it difficult with the weight?

Yep. Sell that heavy pos and build your mtb out with a middrive bbshd or a cyc photon.

Nice video. I just bought 3 of them. How did you override max speed? Thanks Sam
Sorry Sam you'll have to dig for this info online
Nice review. Thanks.
(O/T: Do you like that Nite Ize Wraptor phone mount?)

Great ride! Can you notice the difference in torque from the original Rover?

Good information 👌
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hard to say for sure, this was a very steep hill. You might find another Canadian owner on the Rad Owners Forum you could ask: RadOwners.com

They do not. You'll have to install or have a bike shop do it. Thanks for the comment!
Which mirror did you use on your RadRover 6 Plus test?
What range do you get when you go around 15 mph with moderate pedaling and PAS 1-3
Anybody ever review this for Canada? We only get a 500W motor here...
What mirror do you have on the bike in this video? Currently rad does not sell one for the 6 plus.
Here it is (affiliate link): amzn.to/3D7wIa5
Thanks for doing this video. Do you remember how much battery was used?
I do not, probably a bar would be my guess but again that's never an exact metric.
Very bumpy , you have the suspension locked out. ?????
Have you tried lowering the pressure on the tires as well? You'll want the front suspension unlocked to absorb the bumps.
Nice bike, but I feel there are better/more powerful choices for the same or even less money.
