THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS. I bought this bike a year ago and this kit can give me peace of mind that if Rad goes out of business, this bike can still be kept in working order if anything goes wrong with my parts.
If their plummeting customer service is any indication (along with closed European stores) they are definitely going out of business. Probably some of the worst customer service I’ve dealt with and my bike is a dud.
I’ve had the RR6+ since 2021 (over 2000 miles) and still love it. The first 2 years were problem free - only had to change break pads - normal. But in this last year, the motor hub had problems that I couldn’t repair and I had to buy a replacement rear wheel motor hub assembly that cost me 500 dollars. A few months later, the controller wasn’t working and I had to purchase a new one for 200 dollars. I’ve also had to buy tires. So now it’s practically a brand new bike! I’m back to having fun riding every other day. It is a very fun bike. And it was worth fixing it. I’m lucky that I have the skills to install the replacement parts. Wish I knew about your upgrade kit before I bought the one from RAD. The new controller that I got from RAD is a bit different than the original one. The new one is contained in an all metal casing. The case looks like it would have better heat dissipation. It’s tucked up in the frame above the battery and is held in place by two screws. So the frame helps draw away heat. Hope it last longer than the original. If not , I’ll try yours next time.
I like your upgrade for its simplicity of installation and the great results. I like that the controller is EXTERNALLY mounted for better cooling. In fact my controller (mounted behind the seat tube, like you did) came with cooling fins on both sides. Mine is an 18 MOFSET, Sine Wave, 45 amp controller for the two 52v/750 watt motors (AWD) for 2200 watts certified. BTW, I live in Las Vegas (Mojave Desert) so I need that cooling for my controller. @@djs3746 not a significant one. It would be a drastic decrease if left on throttle on PAS 5, but where I used to have my bike at PAS5, I’ll do PAS 3 and it feels about the same. I put it on PAS 5 when I want to get up a hill with ease or beat a light that is about to turn red.
Got the area 13 full upgrade kit for my rad mini a few months ago, and turned it into a hot rod. I got the upgraded motor as well. Accelerates much harder and will pull almost 30 miles an hour now. I did wire in a 40 amp battery blender and an additional 14amp hour battery because with the controller sending double the watts out to motor it goes thru battery 2 times as fast so now I have full range still with the upgrades.
Great job on your new mod for the Rad!👏If you could come up with a way to test wattage on a bike and get true nominal and peak readings, you would be a "Rock Star". The peak wattage on the Ariel Rider Kepler is always under 1,300 in the display. Thousands of owners of the bike always wonder if that's correct,.... or are we getting more and it's not registering correctly? Did Ariel Rider misrepresent this bikes peak watts? Torque seems ok.. Claimed 108 Nm I believe. There is no dyno for EBikes I'm guessing. 🤔
So the throttle power is restricted based on which PAS level you're on? One of my favorite features on the stock setup is if i'm on pas 3 and encounter a very short lived rise in terrain, I can deliver the full power with the throttle for a second or two.. So you lose that capability?
So, just how far does it go with that new controller with that 14ah battery? The upgrade on my RadRunner+ shortened my battery life tremendously, from about 30-40 miles to around 20-25 miles, depending on how much pedaling I am able to do. With factory 250/500W=750W motor.
Brand new one delivered yesterday. The power button will not turn the bike off. I know I’m not crazy. I’ve been thru the manual backwards and forwards!! It’s the holiday so the customer service is closed. I’m so annoyed!!!!😑
On my 2019 Rover I installed Kyle's controller upgrade (the one before this new model), and his battery (52v 20ah Triangle Lithium Battery, that at the time was $650, but for Black Friday is $550. If you have the coin I'd grab one of those if it is compatible with your bike). Took me a day to get everything installed (the battery was an extremely tight fit). And messing with cables and connectors that should be easy, never is. End result: I live in San Francisco, and my place is at the very top of Nob Hill. Before Kyle's upgrades, on the flat lands my bike would top out at about 25 mph, but only with me peddling to get that extra 5 mph. And to get home, I had to put the bike in "2nd gear" and set the pedal assist to 5. With those settings I would have to peddle all the way up the hill, albeit there was zero strain in doing so. After the upgrades: on the flat lands with throttle-only I can cruise about 25 mph. If I lightly peddle in high gear, I can easily travel at about 30+ mph. On my hill, I can use throttle-only to get to the top, crawling about 8 mph. If I pedal in 2nd gear, with pedal assist set on 5, I can cruise at 15 mph to the top. So get those upgrades guys.

Interesting. By any chance would this controller upgrade also work on a RadCity 5 Plus? Asking because it's the same generation as the RadRover 6 Plus, they use the same semi-integrated battery and are very simllar bikes except for the tire size. And if it's not compatible, please consider this a request that Area 13 release a controller upgrade for the RadCity 5 Plus too. It would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work.
Im not sure he is onaCan version of the bike, my US spec Radrover 6+ has a controller that is rated much higher Amps than he said, 55, not 35, but its dead, so unaure his setup would be an upgrade or not..
Tks, I added a BBSHD mid-drive when I Rad components stopped working for the second time. Question is about controllers. ASI builds smaller ones that will fit in the frame. Rad uses one with the Rad 6plus. Be cool to have one.

The V1 upgrade kit works fine on my RadRhino 6 + (European version) so I do not see why the V2 wouldn't work. At least I will give a try to the V2 when they will restock since I have a brand new RR6+ step thrugh coming soon.
Was going to get one of these for my gutless 6+ step thru and the wire routing is totally different. See if you can find a step thru and do another. Lol
I live in Montana. I must start saving for one of these for hunting season. Would be fun running around in a foot of snow when everyone else is chained up...Have to wonder how the battery packs last in below zero temperatures. Not uncommon to be hunting in -12 to -20. Would be funny to pull a deer out on a sled with one 😂😂
FYI - Controller location on the 6 Plus step through is below the battery. Look up this video "RadCity 5 Plus Step-Thru Controller Replacement". The Rad City 5 is set up the same as the 6 Plus. The video shows the controller location on the step through. I replaced my controller back in April and can confirm it's below the battery on the Step Thru version.
More power for the RR6+, but how? Is it because the new controller delivers 35 amps? What's the max amps with the stock controller? I'm looking into building a triple battery system for my RR6+ with the stock 48v 14AH battery and then two 48v 20AH batteries. Right now thinking of putting the 2 extra batteries in rear Fremont Pannier Bags. I am trying to conceal the look of the extra batteries so the bike does not stand out as a modified e-bike as much as possible. Also trying to keep the weight centered and as low as possible on the rear of the bike. My ultimate goal is to have battery capacity range of around 100 miles. Not sure right now if all three batteries would be used tied together, or just plugged in as the main battery is used up and then plug in one battery at a time with the spare batteries. Would this new upgraded controller be a benefit to modifying my battery setup with the Red Rover 6 Plus? Thank you for making this video, is very helpful!

So, with this upgrade, the throttle is tied to PAS level? No way to change that back to the way the RadRover is setup? The PAS level throttle basically makes the throttle useless, once you start pedaling, which is an odd way to go. We have that style in our Lectric and it’s awful.
I emailed them and they said you can’t change it in the settings, so we are stuck. I went with a different controller, even though I really wanted this one. This company seems to do great work, I just can’t have a throttle that doesn’t work when needed. My Lectric has this same “feature” and I hate it.

Why buy an underpowered bike when there are so many new bikes out there with 750 watts nominal power with peak power over 1000 watts; and the prices are probably cheaper than Rad? Area 13 bikes, Magicycle, Hemiway are just some examples. Look before leaping.
You sent this kit to my buddy for his older Radcity 4. He is having problems with it turning off 5 min after starting to ride. Please get ahold of him. Totally messed up our holiday last weekend. He’s gotten a hold of you but no one has helped him yet except for saying sorry. Well sorry isn’t cutting it. PLEASE get back ahold of Tom and help him fix the problem. Hey Rad Customer Service is HORRIBLE and after dealing with them for two months they determined my error 21 is due to a faulty controller and wiring harness. It is under warranty and they said they would ship the replacement but they never did. They say they don’t have the item in stock. Bike was only a few months old-stay away from Rad everyone.
Samething happened to me with ViVi ebike. It took them 2 months to send me a new controller. When I got the controller the throttle didn't work 😒 but they sent the throttle in 2 weeks with $80 for compensation. Right now the bike works but the battery doesn't last long. So I have to email them again about the battery
Rad e-bikes are underpowered and overrated, maybe even overpriced. rad e-bikes could be so much more if rad would just build a decent e-bike. so thanks for doing and developing all the parts that rad e-bikes should be doing on their own.
They probably do that to stay well within the ebike regulations. However, they could configure their hub motors to produce more torque, which is more useful for hill climbing and acceleration, but not necessarily for higher top speed.
Wow, top speed of 25mph WITH the upgrade? What does it go, 20mph stock? That's pretty lame, not the upgrade, the stock motor. I have a 30a controller on my bike and get 32/33mph on level ground. What an overpriced piece of garbage.

Just upgraded my bike with this yesterday. It rides so much better. There's a hill on my way to work that is no problem for my bike anymore.

you can make the RR6+ faster in the stock screen settings, mine does 25mph stock, but up hills/taking off is probably where this thing shines

This has been changed. Kits now have full throttle available in 1-5 assist levels.

This may be compatible with other models that have the integrated battery. But it isn't compatible with the older style battery setup.
Too bad so sad... I was ready to buy it until that... I like the older one, just not the size and it not being water resistant.

Yes it should. Motors have always been the same between US and Canadian bikes.

Wish I could control PAS and throttle limit individually(on the fly). Looking to upgrade Radrunner2 eventually.

On my Kepler I got max 1840Watts. Throttle only max speed 38. W/pedaling 41mph. Has 60 amps batteries and 60 tooths gearing.
why can't the top speed be increased?

I go 24 mph max 25 with the stock unlocked and it feels much faster
Rad e-bikes are underpowered and overrated, maybe even overpriced. rad e-bikes could be so much more if rad would just build a decent e-bike. so thanks for doing and developing all the parts that rad e-bikes should be doing on their own.
They probably do that to stay well within the ebike regulations. However, they could configure their hub motors to produce more torque, which is more useful for hill climbing and acceleration, but not necessarily for higher top speed.
Wow, top speed of 25mph WITH the upgrade? What does it go, 20mph stock? That's pretty lame, not the upgrade, the stock motor. I have a 30a controller on my bike and get 32/33mph on level ground. What an overpriced piece of garbage.
Rad is JUNK, ive had 2 bad batteriea and now they want $500 for a battery, or i have a 79 lb dinosaur. Do your homework, dont by this JUNK
