Great video guys, I recently purchased two of the 6 plus models for the wife and myself. I’ve watched a few of your previous videos and was able to unlock the speed and watt settings. In Canada the bikes are rated for 500 watts and the only two settings are for 250 or 500 watts. The speed can be increased to 40 kph (Left it at the default). We also purchase the front basket and front rack. I noticed once installed both bikes were subjected to the cables rubbing against the racks. I did some cable management and used Velcro to tie back the cables to the neck of the handlebars. This eliminated the cable rub and cleaned up the look of the bikes.
@@EbikeEscape Well I'm an old man so I have to agree somewhat however, it never occurred to me how much more difficult carrying cargo would make the high step to get on even if I were 25 again. I just bought my first ebike to test the waters but already researching what I might upgrade to. Would love to see a video about a good hybrid type ebike that isn't made for the roughest trails but fine on the gravel ones with a few bumps and jostles as well as the street.
The RAD 6 doesn’t have the battery on which makes the step though tighter but still easier than stepping over. I love both my Rad 6 and Rad 5 Expand. I’m 77 yo survivor of heart attack, quadruple bypass and now still able to get out every day riding and have assistance when I need it.
This is literally the perfect video for me right now. I am going in three days to buy a Radrover 6 Plus. Test rode the step thru a couple weeks ago and have been thinking about which to get!
I purchased my Rad Rhino 6 plus based on Ebike Escape Reviews. I still haven't ridden it. I finally finished assembly today and it started raining!. But I'm very pleased with the the instruction videos, the ease of assembly and the reviews. BTW I live in North Spain (a NY/Florida xpat) and intend to wear down my Rhino ASAP. thanks again for the help
Nice video. I went with the step through personally for my Rad6 I just purchased! I had a Rad5 previously, and at times it was a pain to get on and off of, when I was fully loaded up. Showing the high step with the back rack is a good way of helping illustrate that. My new bike is on it's way, and seeing the ease to step through made me feel I made the right choice.
Hi I wanted to ask what made you go with the radrover rather than one of the others out there? I’m doing my research and there are so many choices…thanks!
Great video, thanks, I just switched from a high rise rad rover to a step through after 5 years withe the high rise. I agree that the step through is a less stable ride but offers a lot more convenience for my73 year old body. The longer saddle tube and high bar definitely make a difference in stability of the ride and front end control but the ease of the step through keeps me riding. Definitely worth the minor compromise if tossing the leg over the saddle isn’t the fluid move it use to be.
Great vid! Though I am 5'9" and an old man (62!!!), I prefer the 'high step' models. Fortunately, I've always included plenty of stretching in my exercise program, so I have no problem getting my leg over. I do also prefer the appearance of the high step and having that top bar to hang bike bags from! The Rad Rover 6 Plus High Step would definitely be my choice for a full sized electric fat bike!!!
Love my Rad Rover 6 step-thru just wish the battery was below the seat instead of out front cause would give a little more room to put leg through. Other then that love the bike and I’m 5”2 1/2 . I would recommend you guys to put the battery on before showing it 😄
I bought the high step being 6'4" but I have slight buyers remorse in not buying a step thru. I wonder why Rad Bikes puts their max rider height at 6'2" when the bikes can easily accommodate taller riders like myself. Not that I have any issue getting on the bike but if I want to let a friend try out my bike, it would be much easier for them to get on the bike and just the overall convenience of getting on and off the bike. Overall, love the bike except the weight but can't beat the price and their customer service has been stellar so far.
Hi Daniel, I'd like to see someone 6' 4" on the step-thru. I was riding with the seat at the maximum height but you could maybe put in a different seatpost. It will also depend on your inseam of course. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Step through are inherently unstable . i have ridden two mid to high end step through sand both had 'play' and shaking in the front wheel and handlebars . i would recommend a hybrid step through .this is where there is a low angled top tube that still allows for easy mounting
I'm 69, vertically challenged plus hip arthritis, so a step thru is a must for me in order to be able to ride a bike, which I have done since I was a kid. I don't understand why some sellers and manufacturers still refer them to "girls" bikes. I would not buy one of those just based on their ads.
Thanks for sharing and glad to hear you're still able to ride. It really is great to see those with sensitivities still able to get out there and enjoy.
I had to admit that I saw these as girls' bikes when I first started searching but have come around considerably. I'd buy a step through without hesitation if it was the right bike. Anyway, girls haven't ridden "girls" bikes in a long time, they ride the same ones the guys do cuz they wear the same clothes and not wearing dresses when they ride which was always the whole reason for the difference.
If they design a step-through to be as strong as needed its a better way for all people. The shape was not made for human comfort but to make the bike strong. If that can be done it will be fine a good hint is if a bike also supports a belt (even as a option) since for that the bike already has to be stiff. Having stuff on the back already makes getting on hard but having kids on the back make it near impossible without step-through.
Great video!! Your videos have really helped me to narrow down my eBike search. I was just thinking “I wish there was a comparison video of the Ride1Up 700 Series ST vs. XR so I could see the actual differences with a person on both.” This is an excellent comparison and giving me some things to look for to make the final decision. Thank you!!
You're welcome Tom. For the 700 the other difference is the handlebars. I kind of like the swept back bars on the step thru but personal preference. Appreciate it if you use our link in the description before you buy.
great review, thanks guys! I have mentioned before that I bought a super 73 Z just so I could ride something where I could easily plant my feet when in high traffic areas. A step thru does that same thing, but can also be used for exercise ... there is definitely one in my near future!
The Rad Rover 6 Plus UI remote (the buttons on the left) is the cheapest part on their bikes which is disappointing. Mine broke in the shipping process and I’m currently waiting on the replacement part. I have the Rad Rover 5 and the UI remote is housed in metal with nice feeling rubber buttons. Sort of bummed they went with cheaper quality parts on the 6 Plus. Still looking forward to riding the 6 but I have a feeling I’ll have to replace it again down the road if I ever have a fall or bump the UI remote with something. Still, quality bikes. I hope they come up with a butter UI remote though.
I'd buy one today if I thought I could either assemble it or have a shop do it. I'm mid 70's with bad hands and no shops anywhere near me. No car either, just bike everywhere.
@@EbikeEscape I really appreciate the video. I wish there had been some kind of pro/con list for each. If the step through is more comfortable and lighter, why would anyone buy a step over? Why do they exist if a step through is better?
people who think step thru is girls bike clearly don't get out much and travel, most the rental bikes in big cities like NYC, are step thru. They are perfect for all shapes/sizes/heights/mobility issues.
Great video! Really helped me make up my mind. One question: you show the step thru with a really sleek integrated battery but on the RAD Site they are semi-integrated. What gives?
Lovely video. Next time could you have an average height 5’5 female model demo both bikes for a female riders challenges and perspective. That would be so helpful
Is the pedal clearance any different on these two? In one video the guy measured the clearance for both the Lectric XP 2.0 and the step thru model and the latter's pedals were about an inch and a half less clearance.
Thank you. I Just ordered the step thru so me and my wife can ride it. she is 5'4". I was just not sure if it would work for me but looks like it would be ok. I am 5'10". What do you guys think.
I think you might still be able to adjust the fit enough that you would be comfortable. However, you are at the top of the height range. Rad has a picture section on their website that shows riders of various heights on their ebikes. "Tyler" in that section shows the fit of a 6'2" person with a 34" inseam. radpowerbikes.pxf.io/k0mALx (affiliate link)
I am trying to figure out the dimensions on this bike when the front wheel is removed and it is bolted to the floor. We have a platform bed in our van and I am trying to determine if this bike will fit with the front wheel off.
Height wise, the step thru is recommended for 5'2" - 6'2". So you would be below that. The weight would also be a bit of a concern. The Rad Rover 6 Plus weighs 80lbs with the battery. The Aventon Aventure is offered in different frame sizes. With the smaller frame being recommended for riders 4'11" - 5'7". But it would still have a high overall weight. But with the release of the Aventon Aventure 2, the Aventure 1 is on sale for $1500 bit.ly/3eRybHX (affiliate link)

The battery comes off from the top (check out our full review). There are no bottle cage bosses on this bike but you can probably rig something up for buy a bag for the rear.
I think the girls version is ugly. Prefer the men’s version with the top tube, more sturdy too. Also I don’t wear a dress while riding so I don’t need a step thru
