I had the same thing with my hp laptop, bought it thinking it was thunderbolt, actually just means you can charge from it while the laptop is turned off. Really shitty design.
My asus rog g700 ts had it too, it is not totally uncommon

I didn't even know VAIO actually seperated from Sony.
I didn't know it was more than a random name that Sony just slapped on its laptops, like Galaxy or Yoga.
It actually is still owned partly by Sony, something like 26% percent. They make all their laptops in the same factory as Sony. I have the Vaio Z Flip which is the older one of this but I like it better due to its hybrid design of tablet/PC.
Well they still selling it in Sony store.... it just differnet owner now...

To be honest it's pretty much standard for newer low to mid-range laptops from Asus. Some other manufacturers may just lose a few ports, like HP that doesn't include VGA port. Apple is another story tho.

I think a dongle is sufficent enough, as long as you put it in your laptop protecting case, you will never forget it. My work place use VGA too, but i always had my HDMI to VGA Dongle by my side. And you would never always need those port right, why let it there when you don't use it, it affect the thickness of it, and the design.
@@dashiedev3281 yeah pay like 50-100 € per dongle, because you havent already spent enough on your overpriced status symbol from a company, that markets everything as "simple" and needs you to carry like 3 different dongles around just to do normal work.
I could see a lot of companies picking this laptop up for its versatility. I work in consulting and give a lot of presentations so having all of the ports on the side would be a blessing.

thank you for an honest review on the VAIO... i have had numerous Sony VAIOs (since 2000) over the years... my last was a Sony VAIO E Series... but now i run with an Asus RoG STRIX GL753VD (which is heavily upgraded) but i do miss my last VAIO... i sold it to a friend in US after faultless use since 2012 July... maybe one day i will get another VAIO... they certainly are making some really nicely designed and highly specified machines... I like that it angles the keyboard because it also gives more room for cooling as well.
Looks like something I'd pick as a photographer or business user.
The SD card slot to sort out your photos on a bigger screen. The VGA out to use it on a projector. It's portable to get it around on a business trip or basically anywhere where you can't carry much luggage.

I've the Sony Vaio 13'' since 5 years. Still working and still doing the job. I love it Light, powerfull, perfect for student or nomad people.

I'm so happy that VAIO is back. They used to be my favorite laptop brand.
No joke, this thing is probably the best laptop to have if you travel and do business presentations. Never have to worry about not having the right cable.
Yup, the reason for all the ports is because VAIO is targetting the Japanese business market- and you guessed it many businesses still use older hardware that may have been a huge investment 10 or more years ago.. things like ceiling mounted projectors can be expensive to remount and wire just for the sake of having something new

Also people who do lectures like university professors or someone who does coaching or educational courses. Institutions run on Windows (and usually with HP or Dell hardware, incl. laptops) as default, so it's always annoying when someone brings a Macbook and starts fussing for dongles and compatibility.

magicth Yeah they’re dated, but vga and only Ethernet internet are still in many more places than they should be. The one thing I don’t like is the touchpad. Individual buttons are just not a good experience.

Laptop manufacturers aim for bold numbers on the weight department, that what for MacBook air they say 3 (just 3) pounds and this one 2 (just 2) pounds, 2 pounds is easier to remember than 907 grams or 0.907kg, same with tv sizes.

"Pay the Piper" came from the Pied Piper of Hamlin. Hamlin was overrun by rats, and since it was a trade hub, that ment they were also loosing all the goods warehoused there.
A wandering piper came to the mayor and said "if you pay me this I can get rid of the rats". The desperate mayor agreed. The piper marched through the town playing his pipes and the rats stopped eating and wrecking stuff and started following and dancing. He lead the entire swarm into a nearby river and when the rats were gone he went to claim his reward.
The mayor looked around and saw that all the rats were dead and said "What... I don't see any rats. I am not paying you." He then had the piper thrown out of the town. As he was being dragged off the piper said he had several days to pay him or he would be back.
The Mayor laughed.
After those days sure enough the piper came back. The mayor still refused to pay so the piper said "I will take your most valuable possessions if you don't pay me." The mayor laughed again.
The piper then played his pipes. It was the middle of the day so many people were working and going about their daily routines or cleaning up damage from the rats, and the children were mostly out playing in the streets. Every adult froze in place and could not move but could look around and were aware of what was going on. They watched as all the children began to dance and follow the piper. They smiled and laughed as they followed after the piper. Even a couple of sick children and one boy who was 'lame' (he had a mobility issue with his leg) came out of the homes and tried to follow.
Remembering the rats the parents unable to move panicked in fear at the thought of their children drowning in the river but some had relief as they saw him leading them from the town on the road. Shortly after the adults were no longer in earshot of the music they could move again and manically ran after the piper and their children as they went into the hills. Along the way they found the boy who could not keep up who told them which direction they went and how wonderful the music was.
The Adults caught up in time to see the last of their children walking towards a stone wall in the hills but when they got there, inspite of there being no way they could go that the adults wouldn't have seen them, they were gone.
And in that an entire generation of Hamlin, Germany was gone save one.

This is off the top of my head so forgive me for a little colour here and there.
This is an actual historical account of an event that took place in Hamlin Germany that they refer to as "The Ratcatcher" and Pied Piper comes from the multicoloured, and assumed coloured rag outfit that the piper wore to attract people to his performances.
Right about this same time there is a story about the start of a group of people who live in the Carpathian Mountains that it is said were a group of young people lead through caves by some stranger to where they live now, even thought there are no known caves that lead from one place to another, Genetic testing supposedly shows that they two groups of people are geneticly related, and these Carpathians aren't as closely related to other people who originate in that area of Europe.
It's the best one for the business people. They don't generally need the high end specs.
Vaio is premium, looks stunning,super light weight, has decent specs and a ton of ports. Does the job just right.

My first laptop was a Sony VIAO (which stood for Video and Audio Integrated Operations) and cost 2500 back in 2000’s. I missed that thing! Lasted me years until hard drive (which was ONLY 20gb ) got fried. I would love to see VAIO return, their laptops was always different and unique. Great review.

Field sales would love this. Head to any customer and connect to any screen to present. Lightweight to easy to carry with demo products into pedestrianised areas. Similar advantages to the surface pros we currently use just half the cost and likely easier to maintain.
