I don't think I've ever learned more and actually retained the information, better than I have after watching this video. Instant subscribe. Keep up the amazing work
I totally fell in love with this process. I wanted Cthulu immediately. Asked Xfer if my existing system, based on Maschine would run it. Got a lovely email back from Steve with a No, so I went to work researching Maschine user experiences in Ableton, found some positives, bought a Novation Launchpad mini, which arrived yesterday and at 9 last night I had Cthulu talking strange magic inside a free copy of Ableton live lite. Monster Arp indeed. Thank you so much for the introduction. In my emails with Xfer, I name checked you as the inspiration for my inspiration. You also made me realise how intuitive Ableton is. I'm appreciating this even more as a total newbie in it. Reviewing this video there's quite a jump from where you talk about the VST to showing it arping the chord progression. I can see 3 lanes in white, one of which is titled Arpeggiator, the bass drum marking time in orange, which I assume is the framework. Did you copy the chords into a new midi channel, then drop Cthulu onto it or the other way round I wonder? I will probably be able to work that out by trial and error. As you might read, I'm overexcited.
the video is not only to make things like four tet , also you can use it as inspiration to make another thing completely different , oscar your are amazing , really feel gratefull about all of this content that you share !
Oscar is one of the most creative instructor i've seen, trust me, i've seen tons of videos but i'm stuck to this channel, no matter how beginner or advanced you are, this channel is for you
Really loving the channel so far mate. I gotta say, I don't really make music that sounds like anything you make (although I usually like it!), but I love these tutorials because they show a really good work flow. I've been making music for a long time, but I'm relatively new to electronic music and even newer to ableton. You do a great job of showing how to get the sounds in your head into your daw. Cheers.
I never comment on videos really but this is some great stuff. Your teaching has led me to produce some sick deep/dark bicep type tracks in my own style. I love these videos so much. Super easy to follow. Thank you so much.
This is absolutely sick. I only have Maschine but I can see how this carries across easily. Really great pacing with the videos, I feel like a lot of creators go too slow but you pack a lot in while still allowing us to keep up.
fucking exactly! i completely forgot the thing existed because it's one of the five m4l devices i have. first time i've seen this dude and i just completely forgot how to really use the advantages ableton offers, learned so much instant sub
Really like this one. Instant buy of the Cthulhu for it's arp. If I where to change one thing I would skip the LFO effect and use the built in LFO in Wavetable, just turn off the Retrig on it.
Man, you're so clear, concise and to the point. Your teaching skills are phenomenal, I love trying everything you've been showing us all - thank you so much!!
Oscar, you are so awesome. Every Underdog tutorial I’ve done helps with grasping music theory concepts, developing technical skills, learning Ableton workflows and reminders to move quickly with creative decisions. Thank you so much. Will definitely book future sessions when I’m further along.
Fast growing channel, and well deserved. The very best channel available on the subject. Oscar, in the weeks of watching your uploads, my improved understanding and musical growth has been nothing short of amazing. Thank you for this.
I haven’t even watched video in it’s entirety, but I’m commenting as I know I’m about to learn some cutting edge stuff! For anyone pondering, this guy knows his shit!
Awesome video! Because of it I ended up getting Cthulhu and diving right in. That arp is now my favourite plugin! Was able to take my work in progress song and create an awesome melody for it!
Hang on hang on, can I just say wow, you had almost 1000 subscribers in this video... And now you're at 110,000 only 9 months on?? That's gotta be a record for growth!!!
Draw the rest of the owl reference cracked me up. Excellent content. You have a great way of packing lots of info into your segments that is very easy to understand & integrate.
You do the best videos EVER ! Like Emilien said " The amount of stuff I learn from your videos is amazing ! And I'm following you since only a week ! Thanks !
I always forget that there are people out there who don't know how this stuff works. I was going to make a derisory comment pointing out that what Four Tet is doing is incredibly simple, and that the machines are doing almost all of it. But then you spent nearly seventeen minutes patiently explaining the technique for those who don't know. It isn't mystical. It isn't hard to do, and you don't even need to be much of a musician to get results like that. But I'm still gonna complain that no-one gives me any credit for discovering these techniques on my own!
This is A1 sound class, just imagine the tutorial pack's! I bought an everything bundle from Production music live toward the end of '21, I am still keen to have a browse and find something that I need to work on. Thank you for the dedication to the music brother! 😉🙃🤘
Fantastic stuff. Even though the examples are in Ableton, these concepts can definitely be taken to other mediums. Excited to give these techniques a try on the Digitone! The former of this channel is so instructive, beyond the individual lessons it's teaching how to analyze music you enjoy to replicate the key elements. Thank you so much for all the great videos!
great vid. anything more about stuff "motifs, secondary melodies and counterpoints" is super welcome --- arrangement and instrumentation is difficult - this helped a lot already, thanks
you probably know this already,,,, but you can press shift & up arrow to move midi notes up an octave, instead of mousing them up with your tongue sticking out the side of your mouth
Really enjoyed this! Big fan of Four Tet and your deconstruction and explanation was superb. If you were to do another analysis of an artist, could I please request Barker? He’s got a really interesting and striking sound quite unlike a lot of other stuff out there.
hey just by the way the first chord you call Bb minor and on the midi clip u label it as Bb minor but the notes that sound are actually Bb major, not sure if you noticed this
@@OscarUnderdog credit where it's due. You got a sub from me after the Bicep video anyway! Building melodies is definitely something I would love to improve. I've shared this one too, looking forward to more content!
Thanks for the support Rafeek! Yeah I'm just slinging vocabulary there, trying to get the viewers to think about these things more conceptually - that way they are not totally locked into any particular tool. Once you understand the principles, there are many ways to appraoch any musical idea!

The meat of the technique with all the fat trimmed. Quickly becoming my fav production channel.
@@737simviator I was referring to the editing of the video but thanks for sharing what's on your mind.
Some of the best content on electronic music production by far
nicely explained, not overly technical. as an artistic soul with no technical mojo it is super helpful and fun to reproduce and go from there.

best learning channel on youtube, and great electro background and tastes !
The first chord is a Bb Major. Bb-Fm-Db-Ab. The Ableton techniques are cool 👍
Underdog coming up quickly to that 1K subscribers! Make sure you hit that button friends!!!
Oh man are you ever on the ball 😁🤘 King!
Pro tip : you can watch movies at flixzone. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies lately.
@Dario Kashton yea, I have been using flixzone for years myself :D
Solid AF. Interesting techniques, well taught. Great channel, nice one pal

Super cool man, it's really good like that. And I haven't even scratched the surface with its randomisation options, and its chords engine!
Almost 1k subribers, 6 months later over 50k ! Awesome work !
I know right 😃 It's been a crazy journey. So happy people are finding the channel. 💚

Those chords are all in the key of C#/Db so you could just use a randomized C#/Db major pentatonic arpeggio and you will get the same basic harmony.
Really really nice Oscar - congratulations
Thanks!
WHoa, thanks so much! First time I've watched you, will certainly be subscribing that was awesome!
Not to be that guy, but the synth programming in your example is actually done my Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. Great track and love your breakdown.
Hey Robert! Not sure what you mean? I always want to give credit wherever appropriate, but I'm not sure what you're referring to.
@@OscarUnderdog the Four Tet track you play in the intro of this video "LA Trance" features additional synth programming by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith.

this is pretty nifty! may need to buy cthulhu now..
That's always the risk :D But it is definitely a pretty "endgame" arp/sequencer, I don't think you'll ever need another arp after that...
