When we get over this pandemic I think humankind needs to focus on how to keep Kieran Hebden alive and producing music for eternity. The machines are nothing without him. 😍
Its legitimately the only bit of educational value you can get in this video. That hes amazed in what it does, when he just plays around with things lol
I love how simple he keeps everything. He has a lot of devices, but everything has its own function and it's all laid out in such a sensible way. Very inspiring!
FT is putting back poetry, magic and randomness into the sometimes over technical business of music. Just putting back humanity into music. I love this guy
i never would have guessed four tet would have a set up like this. it's great to see artists with their own unique setup for specific reasons. if this isn't the full video, i would like to see more!
I was first introduced to four tet when I purchased his remix’s of madvillian 12” and have been a keen listener and purchaser of his vinyl since then and it’s refreshing that such a nice and authentic person has got to a great place in his music journey!!!!
SP-303 such an amazing piece of gear. Worth it for just the onboard effects... but also can be used as a looping/sequencer machine. The vinyl compression effect on it is GOAT
I used to play with a guy who largely based his whole setup around that click-loop thing in CoolEdit haha. He used the Korg ER-1's audio input (just like the SP-303's but sequenceable) for it.
I've been a fan of Four Tet for many years but that was unique, intimate and VERY informative - AND inspirational! Such a cool vibe from music, the equipment and the artist :)
I always assumed the monome was for full on ableton control but it’s basically a second playground set for him while he controls the stems of the songs with the computer itself which is nuts ! Plus that little looper thing I wish more things were made like that
Ten years ago this was posted and I’m watching him with Fred Again and Skrillex in Times Square. What he produces is unreal. He’s so insanely talented. Seems like a really nice guy too
Very interesting shit. Ableton's versatility is amazing. Becoming comfortable with the program on your own terms is extremely important, but a few tips here and there certainly won't hurt..
+MrBoxingVideos well, to be fair, he probably has a bunch of ridiculous machines in his studio. He is drawing on a wide swath of prerecorded material for this live setup.
MrBoxingVideos actually I looked into it, and it appears he does almost everything "in the box", so to speak. So you're right, he doesn't use extravagant gear to make his music.
Andrew Gerrand yeah fourtet is just a random genius, incredible ear. Rounds was recorded on some shitty PC into cool edit pro with one of those built in usb mics into the stock sound card. And when he “masters” his tracks, he says he just throws on a limiter until it sounds good LOL
Hey Robert, do you know his signal chain for his laptops? It looks like he’s using two USB cables, one for the midi controller but I’m not sure what the other one is plugged in to.
This was the first time I put together that Angel Echoes samples Bjork's The Anchor Song, long before Justin Martin took note and started playing one of my favorite unreleased remixes of all time
@@1234321mike1234321 his backstory is pretty clear cut - descendent of aristocracy, life handed to him on a silver platter and fed to him with a silver spoon. Nepotism at it's finest.
Ever wondered how Four Tet puts together his live set? You may want to take a look at this. #fourtet #cooleditpro ***** #midi -lifestyle

He was already a very well established name in UK/European Electronic music circles prior to his collabs with Skrillex and Fred.
Nothing to see here

his set at madison square garden has solidified his place in music history.
Now he's been known as the geezer standing behind Fred Again.. and Skrillex
Well this aged well :)
Aged like wine
Coachella was so fun
I love it when the tracks start doing relatively rhythmically interesting things.

why wasn't four tet my music teacher.
It's so refreshing to see quality producer using PC rather than Mac. At end of the day it's not what you use but how you use them.
been listening and following Four Tet for a while now - simply beautiful in every way - thank you for the music!

Could I ask what you like about it, and is it good for performing live? Fourtet seems to just be triggering a sample with it here.

In all honesty, it's worth pointing out. Nice to see an artist doing his own thing, from the ground up (including his OS)
there is no chance of four tet sounding like anyone else...sick producer
A lot of wisdom and creativity here.
