My Grandfather gave me a bunch of his old Craftsman tools that were made in Japan manufactured by Kyoto Tool Company. They're twice my age but they have held up miraculously. The jaws on the pliers are still sharp
I just got some of these Vessel screwdrivers with the striking cap on them. You're right about the weight, they are seriously heavy-duty! I wish the handles were colour-coded to separate the flat blade and the JIS tips, but other than that, I think they're excellent tools.
I bought a Vessel #2 phillips a few months ago like the single one you bought separately and it quickly became my favorite screwdriver over all of my others... Great review, thanks!
Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get rid of some of the flats and replace them with stuff people actually use like T25. They could do like 2 common flats and two others instead of 4 and 4. It’s too many pry bars
Happy Birthday Tom! Great review. Your wife is a sweetheart for buying those for you, hehe. Those are some really sweet screwdrivers. The serrations on the tips do make a difference. Yeah I can't understand the different size handles. Thanks for another great video
I use a #2 every day for work and the JIS bits fit every screw head, whether it be US or anything else better than any other bit. JIS bits are also a game changer if you work on Japanese cars and motorcycles
I like the longer #2 Phillips. It doesn't provide more torque but allows you to pinpoint your torque better. Think about playing pool in a basement and there is a cut down cue for shots with obstructions. The longer the stick, the more accurate the shot. Same thing with screwdrivers. My favorite is a 2' long SO.
Great analogy! Never thought of it that way! I’m thinking of it from the standpoint of really leaning on that longer size and having it slipping off. Appreciate the comment got me thinking!
Happy Birthday Tom! I wonder how those handles will hold up to staying clean and looking good.. it seems that type handle material gets nasty quick. I like the handle material like that green handle SK you were showing.. any hoot great info and I'm still gonna look into these... RTR! have a good'un Vic
Happy birthday Tom I like the quality and feel of a vessel screwdriver I bought 1 2 3 jis impacta and and ball handle with interchangeable shafts you will enjoy them I guarantee
They come in handy when working on Japanese motorcycles and ATVs including on Mikuni carburetors. The dead giveaway to tell if it is a JIS is a dot in the head of the screw.I have the Craftsman striking cap screwdriver set made by Vessel and has come in handy.Used the #2 phillips on a Toyota throttle body was one of them
I like my Milwaukee Demolition Screwdrivers I’ve beat them with a mini sledge and they hold up! Also for your striking cap vessel screwdrivers hit them with a rubber dead blow, gives you a solid hit but won’t mess it up!
I have a similar Snap-on set that cost more than the Vessel, I just recently bought the vessel and honestly speaking the vessel is a better screwdriver set. Very high quality screwdrivers and you can hit them with a hammer snap-on you cant without damaging the end
Also Tom if your looking for more excellent Phillips screwdrivers try out the Wera LaserTip, I just hope I don’t turn you into Lone Star Mopars buying every PH2 that exists haha, take care buddy!
I have a set of the Wiha extra heavy-duty (striking cap and bolster), and a set of the teal Vessels. I wish I knew these existed because I have about $230 in screwdrivers and I could have just bought this set and been done. I might as well buy a set of the Vessel Impacta screwdrivers also. I guess I collect screwdrivers now.
Happy Birthday Tom! That’s a really nice screwdriver set. I’ve been wanting a set of those impacta. That’s weird that they didn’t include that shorter no. 2. I wonder if it’s available in a shorter set with the foam tray?
David, not that I can find. Was so bummed when I realized that common length was not included. Probably use the longer flat head as a pry bar and slide the shorter #2 in the tray.
I loveeee the instinct handles from Snap On. I do have a snap on ratcheting screwdriver with the style handle of the one you have in the video and it also feels really good.
Quick question, every JIS screwdriver I have used locks up better on JIS and Phillips head. Like every time without fail, the JIS driver works better than the Phillips driver for a Phillips fastener. Anyone else have the same experience, or the opposite? Always seemed odd to me that Phillips would not be a better match for Phillips fasteners
Jean-Paul from reading up on the reviews for these screwdrivers most people feel the same way. That JIS screwdrivers often fits Phillips screws better.
The manufacturing methods for a cheap phillips are cheaper and easier. Vessel has been optimised for JIS AND phillips for decades. Technically the JIS standard is obsolete since 1990 or so, most new drivers are a composite design.
This is where I got it. Vessel 930 Megadora +2x100 (JIS) +2 Screwdriver 930-2-100 www.amazon.com/dp/B000W9KWF2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_P37K5AP5MTAZTPQWPXMS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That is really weird that they have different size handles. I'm no mechanic, so this very likely is not valid, but as a counterpoint I have a set of screwdrivers by proto from the '40s or so that have the positive or negative sign in raised lettering on the cap of the handle. I do remember a handful of times where this was very helpful, if I had my head in the work and feeling blindly for a screwdriver, it is nice to know whether it's Phillips or Flathead as well as knowing the approximate length because of the graduated handles. I don't do any automotive work, but from what I've seen they spend a lot of time with their head under the hood or on a dolly under the car. It's very likely just cost saving, but is it possible this is intentional for the above convenience?
They look like fantastic screwdrivers. Tatana is pure marketing wank though. Tatana is the process of making what we often call Damascus steel. The irony of that being used as marketing is that the Japanese did not fold steel 10,000 times to make it strong, they did it because the iron ore in Japan is so poor that the only way to fashion a sword out of it is to do that Damascus technique. Japan is where and why Damascus steel exists. They are some of the best steel workers in the world, but that is because they're steel is so poor that they have to in order to make it function
Shrinking and enlarging proportion doesn't equate to comfortable handles. I wish companies didn't do it with pliers and screwdrivers. My favorite screwdrivers are the felo with a wood handle. They do the same thing. Thanks for the review. I've been eyeballing getting the JIS2 to check out
I’m so sick of people thinking so highly of tool truck brand tools, like snapon over priced pieces of shit is what that is and gullible people continue to buy that shit
Screwdriver=Vessel. Wrench=Wright. Ratchet =Proto. Pry=Lisle. Measure-Mitotoyo.Continue please...be realistic.Price per week, from your"friend",/couponage/2fer. Irrelevant. So is Warranty, If it's worth a damn...it likely wont be needed. UNLESS.
I like the longer number 2. They just feel more comfortable for some reason.
Tom the Vessel screwdrivers are a game changer... Japan doesn't play around. I have a few of those and they are amazing! Great stuff!
Thanks John, looking forward to using them!

It’s mystery why they don’t put that in the set or give it to you as an option. Appreciate the comment! I think it will be my favorite as well.
same
Screwdriver sets are frozen in time, it's odd that still today half of the set is flat tip screwdrivers.
So true, that’s why I was shocked they didn’t put a standard length Phillips in the set. The flat heads are mostly pry bars these days!
Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get rid of some of the flats and replace them with stuff people actually use like T25. They could do like 2 common flats and two others instead of 4 and 4. It’s too many pry bars

Appreciate that Mike! And yes she is a sweetheart for sure.

I lean on mine almost daily. Beats drilling out screws!

Hi Vic, will definitely keep you posted on the durability.
Happy birthday Tom. I've been looking for a reason to buy a set of these also
Hahaha, I can understand that!
Happy birthday Tom I like the quality and feel of a vessel screwdriver I bought 1 2 3 jis impacta and and ball handle with interchangeable shafts you will enjoy them I guarantee
Thank Larry!

Happy Birthday Tom! My Vessel Impacta is my favourite screwdriver I own just awesome!
I’m wondering why they didn’t put the same teeth on the impacts? Might dig into screw too much with impact?
Great birthday present Tom! I'm sure Scoutcrafter will approve the color!
Haha yes, I didn’t think of that!
I bought a lot of megadoras on eBay from some dude in Japan. 50 bucks just for a bunch of Phillips drivers. Came with the shorter #2.
HE GOTTHA 😅😅😅
I like my Milwaukee Demolition Screwdrivers I’ve beat them with a mini sledge and they hold up! Also for your striking cap vessel screwdrivers hit them with a rubber dead blow, gives you a solid hit but won’t mess it up!
Great suggestion!

I have enough issues! I don’t need more! Thank you!
ive the ball grip vessel. i like them.
They make great stuff, love mine so far.
I have a set of the Wiha extra heavy-duty (striking cap and bolster), and a set of the teal Vessels. I kinda feel the same way. I wish I bought these from the get go and so many others.
It's a 150mm or 6" don't complain there are maybe 4 brands in this size with a hex bolster and soft grip but they should have put a 100mm/4" in there
So crazy to me Craig! Appreciate you watching!
Happy Birthday Tom! That’s a really nice screwdriver set. I’ve been wanting a set of those impacta. That’s weird that they didn’t include that shorter no. 2. I wonder if it’s available in a shorter set with the foam tray?

Thanks Pal
Happy Birthday!

Yeah really like the feel of the Snap-on handles!
I'm not to keen on snap-on prefer witte or vessel screwdrivers
Happy birthday friend
Nice

The Phillips standard intentionally cams out at high torques, so that is by design. JIS does not, again by design.
I agree, I just did a load of tests on different screw heads, and the JIS fit better every time.
Felo Frico best of the best)
Do happen to have a link for the shorter #2 phillips
This is where I got it. Vessel 930 Megadora +2x100 (JIS) +2 Screwdriver 930-2-100 www.amazon.com/dp/B000W9KWF2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_P37K5AP5MTAZTPQWPXMS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Got it, thank you for the review
Love that one and the longer one I complained about. Lol. They are beasts! No slip!
That is really weird that they have different size handles. I can see that as being a benefit from time to time. Great point.
They look like fantastic screwdrivers. Tatana is pure marketing wank though. Tatana is the process of making what we often call Damascus steel. Now that you say that, I do remember coming across something to your point. As always appreciate your insights!
Felo ergonic all the way
Poundland is the best,

I will have to check out that felo, not familiar with them. Thanks for the comment.
I think you're gonna need a bigger box
As my brother in law says “going to need a bigger boat”
For 88 dollars plus I'll pass on this one
For tools of this quality, that's not a bad price - you'd probably pay at least twice that for any of the tool truck brands.
There is no comparison. Toss the other garbage in the glove box
I’m so sick of people thinking so highly of tool truck brand tools, like snapon over priced pieces of shit is what that is and gullible people continue to buy that shit
These vessel screwdrivers are awesome and are just as good if not better then any tool truck brand for sure.
