For some of you baby geniuses jumping to conclusions: Huey needs to be alive for Metal Gear Solid 2 because he's a pivotal plot point in Otacon and Emma's backstory. His death is already explained in that game! Some of you guys need to play these games first before trying to imply I don't know the difference between Huey and Hal.
+TheGamingBritShow Except you also keep forgetting that Kojima himself mentioned that he was going to retcon a lot of content in this game. It's obvious that this game wasn't meant to be a finale, even before he was fired, it was meant as a continuation. So would you stop insulting people who just want to have a conversation about this series that they cared for? You'd be surprised how many more viewers you'd get just by showing some restraint to your own opinions.
+TheGamingBritShow The gameplay in this game, the mechanics, are awesome! But after chapter 1, the game goes to hell. The story and characters are crap. And I hate it when a game makes me repeat missions and bosses! That is a cheap scam. Great review, BritShow.
+TheGamingBritShow I can relate to some of the stuff you say, but as to the matter of Huey, he was exiled, he could have made it back to the USA, and even if he died, Meryl could die in metal gear solid and she appeared in an important part of metal gear solid 4. Even though that, I respect your opinion you are in every right to be dissapointed, even so, one has to admit that the game did a lot of things right... even if the ending is shit without the dvd that explains wtf happened to Eli... sorry for any grammar error, I am not from an english speaking country.
Jeisson Leonardo I don't understand by what you mean by scam. You do know the creator and the team behind the game were fired before it was completed, right?
I think including the civil war mechanic from Act 1 of MGS4 would of made the open worlds way more enjoyable. Imagine Afghan Rebel outposts and Soviet outposts, along with being able to befriend and help out the rebels in firefights/side ops.
Ya the game had so much potential but they pushed it out too early. Honestly even if they gave Kojima more time and budget Idk if it would of turned out any better. All the grindy peace walker mechanics where all leading to this then you add a open world which usually tend to be grindy because it takes alot of time and money to bring a world to life. I think kojima kind of started to lose his way to peace walker like I like that game a lot but mostly for the narrative I didn't like all the mother base stuff it's a waste of time also I don't care for sponge bosses they are very uncreative compared to the rest of the series.
some leaks says that the reason why the open world is so flat is the ps3 hardware, konami wanted more sales, kojima and his team wanted it to be a next game, a ps4 game, in order to put STUFF on screen, the game is always so empty if you think about it, motherbase is a joke too, it could have been a war game with a lot of dynamic events, the stuff and space to make it possible is all there, all the vehicles immaginable and gadgets, its a mega sandbox that is so underused.
This. I was genuinely disappointed this wasn't in the game, I remember there's a mission early on where Kaz straight up says there are Mujahedeen in the area attacking a base and there just weren't
@@billymanziel5666 No, but idk how to take you serious, if you think Hideo Kojima is a narcissist. Your just making a dumb theory with no evidence. Putting his name in the game?! How dare he! Imagine being proud of your own work.
@@perfect.stealth Survive did have some good things, but also a lot of bad things as well. The constant grind for food/water/air and only being able to save at camp made the game a pain in the ass sometimes.
Except metal gear survive is better than TPP, it's a low budget game and if it had TPP budget it would have been even more better. Also TPP is the first Metal gear solid that have microtransactions........
@Игорь Чернышов It's not hard seeing how shitty TPP, it's the stain of the metal gear solid series. It's more COD than MGS and it's too damn easy because there is no difficulty settings....... MGV (Metal gear survive) have a hard start at least, make you exploe the map, no 1 hour fucking long scripted intro, no repeat of the same mission with a small change, survival mechanics (hunger, thirst, injuries), and mostly CO-OP. Even GZ is better than TPP and at least it got a hard difficulty setting.
One thing I never liked about MGSV (and Peace Walker) is how the game is mission-based. I'm speaking specifically about the fact that the way you progress through it is by selecting a mission off of a list of missions and then flying over the the start zone. I feel like one of the reasons the previous MGS games felt tight in terms of narrative wasn't only due to the abundance of cutscenes, but because of the fact that you initially set out to do something and then the game just... took off from there. Having to fly to and from Mother Base really took me out of the story. It didn't engage me.
Peace Walker had the excuse of being on the PSP. The mentality was since it was mission based and portable, people could finish a mission while on the bus or on the subway train (or any vehicular transportation). It also helped since the maps in Peace Walker were bite sized, so it helps that the missions with missions if they are shorter than others. I can’t give that excuse to V though. Also Peace Walker is definitively the best Metal Gear game since you get to fight Monster Hunter Bosses.
It was mission based in peace walker, but it had the MGS DNA in it as the main missions would pick up from where the last left off and would all take place on the same map in Costa Rica, like a shadow Moses, or a big shell. MGSV is when everything became disconnected between the missions and messed everything up.
All they needed to do to solve that problem is having BB being the only playable character in the story missions, and the MB soldiers for the optional missions. This way you can easily explain the main story being one fully linear experience while whatever happen in MB and in the optional missions being in parallel, done by MB soldiers.

I love this game for the same reason you hate it. It’s not story driven, it’s all gameplay. But I’m the kind of person who doesn’t care about the story in a videogame.
@@josephmoore9706 Sniper wolf, a boss fight you can tackle a numerous amount of ways, including a first person drone like rocket missle. Meanwhile in MGSV if you ain't tranqing guys your base don't grow, I always run tranq personally in MGS games and it still grew tedious doing it.
I guess Metal Gear Rising is a pile of shit then because it's just a character action game with the Metal Gear name slapped on it for the sake of pandering.
BuzzBee Metal Gear Rising excels because of its gameplay. There is always a chance of a game being good but most half harted zombie games nowadays turn out to be mediocre rip offs (Alone in the Dark Illumination, Infestation, Walking Dead Survival Instinct) of the greats (L4D2, Dead Rising). Also I don't trust konami after all the shit it has done to thoroughly kill its fanbase.
- Codec conversations - A speaking protagonist - A great soundtrack - Health that doesn't regenerate - Cheesy, over-the-top boss fights - Ludicrously expositive villains - Philosophical rambling mixed in with silly banter Yep, sounds like a Metal Gear game.
This game didn’t only miss the final chapter, but there are so many game elements that are missing and you can see the incomplete work when you play it It is sad that it ended this way
Yeah, I felt that the story was really bad but that was alright because the gameplay was really engaging. Personally, I quite enjoyed the admin element of managing the base but, as you say, it’s clearly unfinished and that’s what disappoints.
@@alansquared too bad I am quiet sure that this game needed a year more in the making, so many unfinished ideas, all I have to say is why are we still here 😫😂

My problem with mgs5 is the pacing. You spend more time calling in choppers and micromanaging recruits, than actually playing missions. Edit: 600 likes? Wow. And, these dudes in the comments need to go play Devil May Cry 5.
@@Bauernade In my opinion the automanage button makes the whole system pointless. Why even bother implementing that shit when you give players the (penalty-free) option to skip all of it? Not that it's a fun system to begin with. It's just boring, unnecessary crap. Same goes for the base building. Boring as hell.
I don’t know how the Phantom Pain was bad if you are talking about the story then maybe yes but if you are talking about the gameplay then absolutely no . The phantom Pain is probably the greatest game of all time when it comes to gameplay, I had more fun playing TPP more than any MGS game before . People just love to hate .
@@Кинг-х3к Greatest game of all time? Its MGS in a slightly open world. Gameplay was good but also a novelty as it wore off pretty fast when you realize there isn't actually much to do as the game wasn't finished.
@@Кинг-х3к I agree the gameplay was really good. Probably the most well developed in the series. But the rest of the game was so bad, it degraded the gameplay too
@Cuck Rockafeller We live in a world were it is totally impossible for two people to come up with the same joke. You could dump 10.000.000 people in front of the same game and ALL of them would have different opinions, not one of them would come to the same conclusion as another unless they had contact. Are you really telling me this?
Revengeance is more true to the Metal Gear formula than Phantom Pain. Quirky boss squad, epic final boss, tuxedo unlock post game, diverse support team, and its way more epic gameplay than the trailers indicate
Personally, I enjoyed the game. I could go on a tirade about why I disagree with you, but I can see your side of the story, and why I can respect your opinion because of it. This was insightful, thanks for uploading this. :)
this game is a horrible metal gear solid game. the story seems pointless, and if konami releases another metal gear im not buying it. But as for a game play itself, it's pretty good.
***** The most glaring one is his points on gameplay being "mediocre". He states it is bad/mediocre, yet his opinion/critique is almost entirely based on the fact that he personally didn't like it and for being open world / different from the other entries in the series.
Kolvarg I believe he mentions the Quarantine Zone end where you _kill off a small chunk of your military by hand_ and says it felt shoehorned in or not emotional. Personally I disagree with that entirely. But maybe it's because I don't fully disassociate killing humans in a video game with killing humans in real life(not that I've ever done the latter). I thought it tugged at the heart strings quite a bit throughout that scene. Felt really bad about it, too. Shit, I wasn't even that invested into Quiet, but I definitely felt that wave of depression hit me when I realized she was _never coming back_. At least, at the time...
Tightmedusa4 Xbox Live It’s good until it starts getting super repetitive around the second half of the game, I mean seriously nobody thinks mine clearing 13 is that good
@@Barbeta13 The gameplay is only better if you disregard how the previous games were, it has almost nothing to it that makes it play like a MGS game, no "LIFE" meter, no Stamina/Psyche meter, no need for healing items and no controls specifically designed around making stealth a preferable option.
@@CloneLoli Worse even, for me MGS5 (both of them) doesn't feel like a game anymore. We reach such a complex level of gameplay that the game doesn't feel accessible anymore. To add to the famous 'i want to run in the desert instead of play the objective', I found even worse the 'take an hour observing your objective in every possible angle in the hope of not missing any enemy with your binocular' Even Hitman, that first games greatly suffered from that understood the problem and made the game more accessible by Blood Money. MGS5 Made it worse
I partially agree with you.. Partially..story-wise, its lackluster.. Out of all the metal gear games, mgsV is the least storydriven of all of them..but Mgs V TPP is definitely the best, gameplay wise..
Completely disagree. They removed A LOT of mechanics from MGS 4, other mechanics survived but was completely simplified(playing dead for example), and even Ground Zeroes did some things better than The Phantom Pain. Reflex mode has absolutely no place in the game and the same level of depth that's expected from a Kojima game isn't as apparent in TPP. Compared to other games, TPP is definitely top notch, but the bar has been set way too high by Kojima himself so I'd be lying if I said it wasn't disappointing.
+Aaron Burch it still makes it unnecessary though :P I'm not too familiar with Devil Trigger, but reflex mode simply goes against what past MGS games have done. For the first time in MGS you are actually rewarded for getting caught. Whereas before you can automatically lose the game if you get caught, depending on the difficulty, now you get a good 10 or so seconds to kill the ten or so people that saw you before they can alert their comrades to your shenanigans. I'm not gonna stop people from using it, and I may even turn it on in a future playthrough, just to see how much I can do in that timeframe, but it should have no place in MGS especially by default.
dude don't let the amount of dislikes on this video disturb you. everything you said is what you believed was wrong with mgs 5 and i agree with your criticism 99.9%(sorry i love Peace Walker, it's my favorite game in the series just because of the characters and i did like quiets character because some of her actions in the helicopter remind me of the goofiness of other mgs games and she also reminds me that this is a mgs game and not far cry 5.)
+xxxxMrGRIMxxxx Actually I think it's the new MGS fans, the ones who have only played the Phantom Pain that see no problems with it. For someone to have played other MGS games and to not hold a single criticism of the game are simply in denial. I liked the core gameplay but its tone was very different to previous instalments and it's clear the game was never finished and was severely effected by the Konami vs Kojima issue.
+shikenkanbaby the game isn't finished and to make it longer they just add loading screens, unskipable helicopter rides, and a long and baron travel to each outpost. hell they even deploy you farther from your objective to pad out the game! i really can't see how konami put so much money into the game. like did 90% of the budget go to keither sutherland cuz it definitely wasn't worth it...I'M SERIOUS IS THIS FAR CRY 5????(oh wait at least far cry can make a good villian.) playing this just makes me want a mgs bundle for this gen of consoles(which i don't see happening but considering that they made 2 the last gen, it's still a possibility.)
Erik Ravenclaw Dust off your PS2 and with its PS1 backwards comparability you'll be able to remember the good times ha ha. The helicopter rides were very frustrating as they appeared every time you loaded into a map. I actually avoided them and tried to complete as many side-ops on the map as possible to save time and GMP. Which clearly indicates a problem.
lol dude i'm playing assassins creed syndicate and it did the whole "manage your own army" thing 10 times better than TPP first they actually have you working with people who have a personality. second when you buy something can use it right then and there instead of wait on the "development time"(yes peace walker had the same mechanic but it didn't feel like something that was leading to a microtransaction.) the missions are usually not to far away and even if they are theres a bunch of stuff that you can do inbetween the travel there. they let you fast travel without having to go to a certain location to fast travel. oh and you can play as the character they marketed to you 5 minutes into the game instead of crawling on the freaking floor for 1 hour!and they fixed the amount of time it takes to climb high buildings with a grappling hook. Basically they don't waste your time. Assasins creed made a better open world stealth action game than the MGS franchise? IS THIS REAL LIFE?!?!?! Oh yeah and did i mention the main characters ACTUALLY HAVE A FUCKING PERSONALITY!
It has a 91% positive rating on steam so its a very well liked game. I can see how someone shitting on it for 15 minutes straight could result in some dislikes.
A Hill true. I enjoyed the gameplay in the game when I first played it back in 2015: But this game just left me with a phantom pain... not in a good way. I still feel that bad after playing mgs5, and I haven’t played it in a while lol it’s mostly the story that’s disappointing. Gameplay is fine allbeit it can get abit frustrating getting spotted cuz it’s open ended and very different from most mgs games but I still managed to enjoy it abit for my first playthrough gameplay wise.
For some reason mainstream media love it because it's open world and looks nice. Most reviews said something along the lines of 'its a masterpiece and it isn't even finished' which to me sounds ridiculous
to be honest when creators like kojima are incharge then gaming starts turning on their worst side , anyways it's the worst game ever in terms of storyline...! only graphics are cool.
Graphics without question are incredible, and i played on ps4 not even max settings!!! I truly hope FF15 doesnt turn this way because it looks astonishing too.
Who cares about this survive thing? It's only mode-dlc. I would rather say that GTA Online is next GTA than MGS Survive to be next MGS. If someone wants to have some stupid fun with buddies, what the hell - so be it. I don't care.
Kinda weird how this video has so many thumbs down. I like MGSV a lot, but what you are saying makes perfect sense. Respect what you are saying, it makes me see the game from a different perspective. This is a positive.
@@farlonmuentes6004 I'd argue it's been a steady decline since MGS 3. After he made a name for himself the man disappeared up his own ass. His weird-ass, pretentious bullshittery used to have a point, but now it's like he just does it because it's what he does.

@TheGamingBritShow, I owe you an apology, two years ago I thumb this video down thinking you were bashing the game but now I agree with everything you said about the game.
Idk why I find this game to be my favs of the series. Certainly not story wise but everything else makes the game this much fulfilling and actually met with my expectations real Well. The only piece of marketing I have seen was the final trailer for MGSV and it was beautiful almost made me tear up. This game has created a profound feeing in that makes me play it some more. I’m in my 5th playthrough of the game and I still haven’t get the sense of boredom. I played it on my 360 but the frames was just not so friendly so the 60 FPS helped motivate me into getting it for the PS4.
I just finished it for the first time yesterday and I actually really liked it. Cinematics were so fucking cool, I felt horrible after mission 43 but yes at the end I kinda feel let down. I wonder were all the money that was put into the developement went or if the story could have been better (even tho i really like it as a mgs newbie and despite the pacing/abrupt ending) if Konami would have let Kojima do the game he really wanted to do. Guess I'll do the other games and maybe I'll bought a PS3 to play MGS:4

sounds like you're really felling the 'phantom pain' "You too have known loss, and that loss torments you still. You hope hatred might someday replace the pain, but it never goes away. It makes a man hideous, inside and out. Wouldn't you agree? We both are demons. Our humanity won't return." -Skull Face
+kabeltelevizio it's fairly straight forward, in short. "we both have *lost* something, for me it's my childhood and my country, for you it's pretty much everything you've worked to create, along with many you've know and loved. so people like us often chose revenge as that may seem like the most logical course of action, you find something to * hate* weather it be the true cause of your misfortune or not, you'll be willing to do anything to escape the *pain* and helplessness that the loss has caused you. but in the end, even if you get your revenge the very pain you were trying to replace *never goes away*. and instead of everything getting better, because you decide to live only for hatred you be come bitter, it affects your mind, body, and soul. We both have walked this path, and have become changed by it, and there's no way for us to go back to where we were." It's not really a new concept, it's basically one of those "we are the same!" moment! that bosses often decide to throw out. But done in Kojima's trademark often overly dramatic 'cinematic' dialogue, it can take a while to get used to, but I find indirect statements like this to often be a better way of saying it, as you can to a point interpret it your own way.
+kabeltelevizio "..but hatred replacing the pain? That should be the other way around. " not really, again, the revenge aspect. that can be created hatred. hatred that was not there before. I hate pulling the 'it's a metaphor card' but that's the only thing that would really explain it. I finished the game a while ago, so sorry if my quotes are off by a bit. But I believe he uses language and culture interchangeably. for example, I'm trying to learn Japanese, my native language is English, while leaning another Latin based language would be fairly straight forward, just memorize some words, a bit on syntax and done! Learning a Language from a very different culture is very different. Not just because of the vastly different alphabet and phonics, but also because the language has quite a bit of the culture ingrained into it, while we just have Mr. Mrs. Sir, etc, they actually have prefixes for people's names based on your social position relative to them, while we'd just use 'Sir' to be respectful to any male, even ones of our same age or younger, they have something called honorifics, where you would never refer to some one you met at a store with the same name suffix as your boss. While that may not apply to all languages, Language still a powerful thing. And while I'm not going to claim to be an expert on diplomatic relations in the 80's, I'd imagine more then just English was being taught. that may have been the official report, but it's also possible that they were trying to 'modernize' the places as well, introducing them to technology and other things that were more popular where the English speakers came from. The culture aspect works really well with the whole "convert a nation to a different tongue" thing, as last I checked most people don't forget their old language when they learn a new one. so it would make more sense for it to be a culture spread, then a language thing. So why not just say american culture? Kojima is a troll. ...or maybe he always saw language and culture as one in the same? :-/ anyway, here's the final peace of evidence. he speaks of a language crisis, or culture crisis. This is likely because at a very young age when he would be developing his identity, he was exposed to multiple different cultural views " With each new post, my masters changed, along with the words they made me speak." And with no parents to use as a form of reference. he had no anchor to base for determining who he was. he had nothing to define him, much like snake lost everything after lousing the boss, and mother base. Hmm, this would actually make an interesting video, I'm gonna have to read into this a little more, but still keep replying with your thoughts.
+kabeltelevizio "but his method was something someone who hasn't left his room for a decade would invent. " yes, kojima is no stranger to 'just go with it' in the since department, and yes, future generations may forget the language, and overtime if not used, the speaker may forget some of it, but the whole idea of conversion is to change something from one state to another "from 1 to 0" with just language the person them selves would not change they's be added to, but with culture adjustment, their very live style and customs would change, and I think the main reason he was going after English is because it's the most popular language on the planet (if you count those who speak it as a second language) He spoke of zero using English to unite the world (under his control) think tower of babel from the Old Testament, Buy destroying English, not only can he stop zero's plan, and kill zero, but he thinks by eliminating the language 'forced' on so many he can make it so we have multiple languages (cultures) again true diversity, by embracing out 'past present and future(?) he says it's "not an ethnic cleanser, it's a liberator to free the world from zero" basically he just wants to free the world, you know by killing billions. The two main things I take from this are, 1. He wants to stop zero's plan 2. he wants 'sans Lingua franca' no language bridge So I guess it is more about language then culture, I got more ideas about #2 on the way, but need to do a little more digging, tell me what you think
+kabeltelevizio Turns out Ground zeros had a TON of info on skull face, but I Guess I missed all of it, check out 'Metal Gear Solid V - Skull Face Origins, Master Plan, & Analysis! (Ground Zeroes)' by YongYea for that. I spent more time working through the monlogue, and I think I picked up on a few things, in short Zero's plan is the basis of the system from Mgs2, Controlling the world through words, with information control. skull face plans to break countries a part by first getting rid of the common language, destroying them to a point, but when they seek to rebuild, he will provide each with a metal gear, equalizing their power. in his mind this way no country will have more power or influence then another. And he claims this will bring peace. He's already taken care of zero, now he sets to rest the world. not to destroy or rule it. Anyway there's a bit more to it then that, I just finished my video that breaks down the whole monologue if you're interested: 'MGSV: Skull Face's Monologue Explained! [The Power of Words]'

Dunno why you have so many dislikes. Your arguments are on point, well-researched, from a long time series fan perspective. RIght in the feels. Oh and that closing statement... bwahahaha!!!
To me when the series started exploring Big Boss is where it went wrong. You might be in the minority Gaming Brit Show, but I agree with you. Solid Snake is the character I was invested in.
Did you know there was a mission where you see solid snake creeping around motherbase ? There's a door you could go in by intel area , he uses stealth camo and you have to have NVG to track him then a cutscene which was cut. You couldn't actually fight Snake or speak to him obviously but it would have been very cool to see him . Soooo much cut , so sad.
I highly doubt that. Snake is 12 years old during the events of this game, he's not gonna be infiltrating Mother Base, he hasn't even met Big Boss yet.
I thought Snake Eater was good, but I'm with you: Solid Snake is the guy I was most invested in and those games to me where the most enjoyable. MGS1 will always be my favourite, regardless of graphical quality it is still the most emotionally moving of them all for me and the most exciting, despite the fact I've played that game 20+ times. Goodbye Snake, goodbye Otacon, we will miss you!
This is one of the best playing games I've ever had the disappointment of playing. It felt kind like Destiny, but with a 17 year personal history and hype behind it. And I still clocked almost 200 hours, just because how good the gameplay feels, even though it's not revolutionary or anything.. This is a rare beast, to say the least.
+Zagardal yeah comparisons to Destiny are very good, both have very good gameplay but a lot lacking in the story and characters... Destiny even manages to have a more interesting world than this, I dont know what we`re supposed to be doing in those vast empty spaces between the missions - picking up plants ? thats about it....
The comparison to Destiny is spot on. They suffer from the same problem: They both are examples of a beautiful and smooth-playing technical masterpiece that is an extreme dissapointment with too much hype and expectation behind them, not too mention this was a result of a blatantly misleading advertisement campaign.
youweechube yeah, I've been hearing that all over, and I'm glad. Destiny really is a weird game in that regard, it's nice to see it's getting on the right track. Phantom Pain on the other hand is just what it is. With all the crap going on with Konami at the moment, I'm not even gonna wait for another patch, that game is probably wrapped up.
Zagardal yeah theres too many other games, i may go back to the phantom pain at some point if theres a quiet window on game releases. Ive just finished the Witcher 3 DLC which was epic, with a better story imo than the main game !

@@Tsiribreezes The story of the overall Metal Gear series is phenomenal. But MGS 5 is a complete disappointment. As much as Kojima is a genius, he's still human and he definitely dropped the ball on this one.
Dude you are so right about everything, i thought this game was great for the first few hours, the mechanics are rock solid and a very beautiful game, but man once you hit that point where youre just pretty much re-doing the same type of thing in same areas time and time again, and yes also the open world is not used, its just running from place you need to be with nothing to do in between, very strange design... its almost like those review which gave this 9s and 10s only played for about 6-7 hours, where i could understand people giving such high reviews. Overall not terrible, but a very underwhelming ... 6/10
I agree with your points. But here's the sad thing about video games. They're repetitive. You do the exact same things in every game. Whether it be Mario, whether it be Call of Duty, whether it be final fantasy, whether it be MGS. I think the story is underwhelming, but it is better than MGS 2 and peacewalker. I give it an 8/10.
I do appreciate the different landing zones; because you can create a pattern so you can fi bush more missions. But yeah, my biggest complaints were a lack of interesting boss fights and the open world not being utilized more.
p.a.p.a. KO yeah many games have repetitive gameplay, i think what makes the difference is a good story or good set pieces to carry that along, this was lacking in this game
had Hideo Kojima not left, this story would have been better. so the story is lacking. But i thought the set pieces were fun. Like The beginning of the game, Running and hiding from the metal gear, sniper battle with quiet, and fighting child soldiers. BUT.... i wish there was more set pieces like that. Also, this guy completely misses the point that what you are doing in this game has purpose. That its about how Outer Heaven was established, the place where Solid Snake had his first mission.
Ha ha . The same comment thrown around by most idiots in this comment section. Funny enough none of you actually played it. It is a good game and has way better MGS vibe to it than this shit.
Suleiman Boutzamat a game in a stealth franchise that isn’t about stealth, Rather about zombies, has a more metal gear vibe than the stealth game in the stealth franchise? What?
This review is...so Shallow, it's making me vomit. What shallow reviewers from the west don't get that, is that the games can be deep! Holy shit! Who the fuck knew?! Seriously, this is a stupid, dopamine-driven review that doesn't explain why Hideo made this game the way it is. Also, the game IS complete!
Metal Gear Solid games were anti-war propaganda. The philosophy wasn't in the narrative, but in the mechanics. Don't you feel something when you send your soldiers to missions for resources? Don't you feel anything when you send them, sometimes knowing, that they will die?! This demoralization of Westerners made you all just brainless idiots that want good action that has some sense, what a bunch of bullshit. Watch Michael Saba on youtube and his explanation of the game, not this clown.
You know something? Most of your points are correct. Some, are up for discussion. However, I truly do NOT believe this game had mediocre gameplay.....FAR from it. You see..... This game is honestly the biggest and most expansive Metal Gear game out there. I never spent over 100 hours into any single Metal Gear game I've ever played. And I've played all of them. (Including the MSX ones) The open world isn't "Empty and lifeless"........ In Afghanistan, it's full of animals like sheep, bears, mice, zebras, and many more. If you just stay on the main road while roaming the entire game, then of course you won't see any animals and have fun killing/extracting them. I'll admit Africa was sort of lacking the wide variety of animals Afghan had, but it had many beautiful sights (On your first mission there, that area is so pretty in the morning, as well as the waterfall near the mansion) and enemy bases to conquer (The mansion, and other two scattered throughout the map) that more than makes up for it. Also, the game has so many weapons and things to unlock it's crazy. Let's not forget all of the customization options you got for the weapons as well! I am 500 hours in and only 62% complete. Wanna know what I've done for a good 200 hours or so? Use my imagination. Yeah, you heard me correctly. I never had a Metal Gear game that was so big I could use my imagination for just about any kind of situation. That's one of the key visions Kojima/Konami had for this game. To take full control of Venom Snake, and guide him through his journies as Big Boss prior to Metal Gear 1. In previous entries, the story took more control of you then the gameplay. In this game, it's the reverse way around. And I honestly appreciate it for that. I can't even name all of the fun moments I had playing this game, both during main missions and on free-roam. All the amazing close-calls I had and helicopter/bear fights I've had, it's beyond amazing in terms of scale. In fact, I still do not know the entire map by heart. I mean, the game puts you into a world where there are endless possibilities. The game tries to capture a sense of realism that I haven't seen in any game, ever. I mean, you are given the option to approach enemy outposts/bases in so many different ways. You could try and make it ultra-realistic, by turning off Reflex mode/Marking and use lower grade weapons, with really good camo on. Or if you have good enough weapons, put all the modes on and breeze through a base. Or even go in there guns blazing, nothing in this game is impossible. That's what I love about it. Also, I don't even mind the whole demon points thing. I actually sort have grown to like it alot. I have two individual saves for normal snake and demon snake to keep it evened out. It might sound dumb, but it's so much funner to go out as Demon Snake and fight bears, or replay old missions with him topless and that big ass horn sticking out of his head.... Riding the furicorn with demon snake is such a badass sight. I guess what I'm trying to say, is the game is all about forming your own story/recreation of Big Boss. Hence why we have such a huge, expansive game on our hands to do anything we want with. The overall vision of the game is for YOU to make the story out of it. It's given a skeletal structure, with the whole XOF revenge, Two Outbreaks, and ending twists. It heavily relies on YOU to take the challenge, and approach it in your own, special way. To fill the rest. For me, it was a mixture of following the story that was given, and relating my feelings into the game as well. I mean when you had to SPOILERS Kill your own men in the second outbreak END OF SPOILERS, I felt like crying. When I was playing, I lowered my gun so many times and said to myself, "Oh god, no no no", before doing the deed. The ending twist that SPOILERS You are the medic, and serve as Big Boss' phantom END OF SPOILERS didn't annoy me in the slightest. The ending summed up everything I needed to feel. Just like the medic, I may not have been Big Boss, but I experienced/seen Big Boss' missions from MGS3 and so on. And from this game, I experience my own journey since I am both, myself AND Big Boss, and am given a big, expansive world to do anything in. Just knowing that (SPOILERS)Venom Snake is supposed to be ME (End of Spoilers), makes the ending better in a sense. Because it basically means that he felt what I felt, since he's me, and replaying the story missions...... You can see he clearly did. You embarked on your own journey of Revenge, with all of the characters you came to know and love from MGS3 and Peace Walker. You made the calls on more than one occasion, and every now and then Venom Snake took lead and brought you into the right direction. Sure it may not have been what most people wanted, I am more than pleased with the experience I have had with this game. My story is pretty much over, but I still play to form new stories out of my own imagination... Like for instance, there was a time I just decided to kill everyone and rank up demon points, until I got demon snake. Fastest way to do that is use the motolov on every solder in the "Retake the Platform" mission... Including the prisoners who were your own men. I made Venom Snake dive into madness. The story didn't, I did, and in the end, the game delivered Demon Snake to me for doing those evil deeds. I even developed my own little story for it too, heh. Who cares if it isn't canon? It's still fun. But at the end of the day, that horn does grow out to be Demon size until it finally just comes out. (Whether that happened before MG1 or during it is unclear, it likely happened before) The game truly does give you a wide, expansive amount of freedom. And that is again, why I love the gameplay aspect of the game so much. I will agree that the story was very, very misleading from what we were advertised in all of the trailers. But at the end of the day, I am happy with what I got. A huge, polished game, full of things to do and endless possibilities. It more than makes up for the small amount of story given. MGSV may not be my favorite Metal Gear game, but it is definitely game of the year for me. And I will continue to play it every day as I have, for a very long time.
+spideyfan300 Yeah, I thought the gameplay was simply amazing. However it didn't change the fact that it got really repetitive for me. And the side-missions were going overkill on the same types of missions.
+spideyfan300 I agree with every single word. The gameplay in MGS V is some of the most fine tuned I've ever seen in a video game. Everything from mission objectives that don't hold your hand to the weapon balance. I'm a fan of MGS, I started with Twin Snakes back in Gamecube and since then I've played almost all the games and I can safely say that MGS V is my third favorite game in the Metal Gear series. It's a complete joy to explore Afghanistan and Africa. The freedom is staggering. Like you said, you can either go 100% stealth or guns blazing. And the Reflex Mode is optional for crying out loud! It also might be one of the more challenging games I've played in recent years. Because of the open world the guard AI is superb and their movement really unpredictable so the tension of stealth is greater than in any MGS game I've played before. For example when I had to sneak to the mansion where the Code Talker was, I was constantly sweatting, being nervous and concentrating on every single guard movement even with DD on my side. There are couple of missions that felt just bullshittingly hard like Traitor's Caravan, I HATE THAT MISSION, and some missions where there were like 20 guards at one area and Snake needed to find one escaped prisoner under a time limit without being spotted... those moments caused me to scream with anger and frustration, but holy shit the feel of accomplishment when I finally did it. I don't judge games based on story. Even if it's one of the most story driven game series. I value gameplay over story in any game, so it should be easy enough to understand why I love this game so much. While MGS V is not a Game of the Year for me (that goes for Fallout 4) it's one of the best games I've ever played.
Seriously! So your argument against it being an empty and lifeless boring waste land of a game is that there's the odd animal roaming around to kill! How much fun can you get out of that, about 2mins worth of "haha look at that I just tied a balloon to a sheep look at it fly". Sorry but I didn't spend £50 on a metal gear game to hunt fu*king sheep and mice! This game is terrible and all the pretty graphics and scenery in the world can't disguise that.
i hated the most how the trailer showed snake shooting kids, and youre like wow wtf happens to lead him to this point...then it just turns out youre actually just still 100% the good guy with no faults whatsoever. good stuff kojima.
I really wish this game went with Venom Snake being a violent psycho. It could have led to a cool wake-up moment at the end when you confront Skull Face and he insists he's the hero since you and everyone in MSF and Cipher needed to be stop.
That was the whole point. Kojima loves the concepts of diverted history and misinformation. This one of the most focused themes in the whole mgs series. "Real heroes aren't as polised as the legend surrounding them." "As the tales have spread, the truth's been distorted, painted over."
I'm not sure that half of the stuff Diamond Dogs engages in would be considered the activities of "good guys"... (e.g. plundering precious African natural resources to fund your private military; developing a nuke without being part in any sort of international treaties; being just a straight-up, plain old fanatical cult)
@@wdcain1 Venom snake is the legend, Big boss is the man Venom took children from the war to protect them, Big boss took children to put them in war ( peace walker )
In early MGS games, fans complained about how many cutscenes were in the game. Kojima cut back on them in MGS5, letting people realize why they were there in the first place. (And striking a blow against anyone claiming that Internet criticisms should be taken to heart.)
The thing is: The focus on story is what most of us fans love(d) Metal Gear for. Of course there have been complaints about the story being too verbose, but these people are not the ones Metal Gear has been made for. Conversly, The Phantom Pain is not a game made for Metal Gear fans. It tries to appeal to a broader audience by focusing on the gameplay. Us fans wanted what the trailers promised: A great story being told in cutscenes. Instead we got boring ass tapes that you can't listen to while playing because some asshole keeps talking over the radio. Not to say that the story of this game was good to begin with...
Thanatos388 No, it doesn't. At least compared to MGS 1 & 3. Shit walker barely has any story as well, though. And cassette tapes don't count. And if it did, it would be even worse: More cutscenes but barely any story? Bravo!
Winnetou64 "barely any story" is nothing but a meme. Dint know why you're applying it to Peace Walker. Are you just so offended that Kojima changed the structure of the games after 20 whole years?
I don't know why people are saying that the fanboys are going to be mad. In case you didn't notice, they are the ones that are most disappointed with the game.
Fans and fanboys are diferentes things. Real fans are disappointed. They love the séries, but know that this game is unfinished and has a lot of bad design decisions, gameplay or story wise. But there are the fanboys, those people that will deffend something no matter what. Like those people that say that this game is not unfinished because it was all intentional, and only smart people can see what Kojima did want to do (the king's clothes) and things like that. Take a look at the article that Gamesradar did about the game, saying that the game is some kind of a masterpiece of metha language and shit like that, all butthurt because people are disappointed, because they just did want a final boss and things like that. That is something made by a fanboy. LOL
+SuntoryKick im not dissapointed in the least, Kojima is notorious for this kinda crap leaving out part for fans to assume for themselves what happened. It is possible he did leave out the content because or the split with konami. We will never know the truth about the cut content
+David Estep The inference is easy, though. It cost 80 million dollars to develop, and THEN they followed up with a long, expensive-looking ad campaign. They mismanaged their funding hard on this one, and Kojima probably wasn't allowed to do what he wanted with the story as a result.
+SuntoryKick there's been an influx of people since the game was announced that want to appear to be long time fans of the series, but aren't actually familiar enough with it to know why they should be mad. these are the people that defend mgs5.
+Rain But they aren't the traditional codec calls where you see 2 windows of who's speaking. In past games, a good chunk of the story was told through those codec calls. Not to mention, Snake would actually be engaging in the conversation. With MGS5, Snake barely speaks and the traditional codec segments were replaced with the cassette tapes.
+Kanye East There's plenty wrong with the tapes. Most of them don't convey any level of useful info. There's tapes with Miller and Code-Talker talking about fucking hamburgers, for no particular reason than to distract you for 5 minutes. The tapes also make it so that there's little-to-no interaction between characters. Snake is heard speaking in, what, 2 of them? When he already says a total of MAYBE 200 words throughout the game, it's like he became socially retarded after taking that shrapnel to the head. So yes, the tapes are another giant flaw in this game.
+Kanye East Codec calls were context sensitive, ie they happened when you reached out to your team while doing certain things like using the naked camo in the box. The tapes on the other hand is just a really crappy way to replace cutscenes that never made it into the game. They were not context sensitive but rather just info dumps given out at a horrible pace. They actually bury the real story (not just tidbits and side info) in cassette tapes which should have been cutscenes with characters like zero.
+Rain I wouldnt call what Ocelot "The walking encyclopedia" says as codec calls and there is never anything between Venom and anyone else, it's like they were paying sutherland by the sentence.
Throughout the past 5 years I've been re-watching this video from time to time to mourn the passing of MGS series vicariously. However, for the last 2 years, this final part 14:20 has been making me laugh hard which is always a good way to finish watching a video :)
@@Tsiribreezes it ins't soo bad, it just it fails to be a Metal Gear game. The history its very bad and new mechanic included in the game they contrast whit everything that Metal Gear is ( well, not too much like Peace Walker did) . I personally think its a fun game , whit things to keep in mind. I always come back to play a few minutes some mission. I think the first problem the game had is the adaptation to the new era on gaming . I think Konami try to put some sh*t of the new era on it, like microtransactions, dlc, etc etc etc that just do not fit in this fhanchise and that finished corrupting the saga ( that on the other hand she was already tired)and that's why i thing Kojima also fought with Konami. PD: sorry for my english writing
@@TheDud.3 you mean it fails to be a movie because the core elements of the game haven't changed and you can still go full stealth even with the new mechanics involved...You are correct avout the microtransactions though they suck ass ! Nuh it's cool dude don't mention it !
@@Tsiribreezes I agree that MGSV was a great game. However, it does have its flaws, and fans were able to figure that out before this vid came out, which laid it all out accurately. All the cons said about it in this video, as well as cons that can easily be figured out if you look back at past games, show that this game barely lived up to hype, and that's without considering how (atleast imo) the hype train was derailed with the long wait, which Kojima even apologized for which I doubt he would've done if it was simply a long creative process.
I disliked this video, but I agree with 90% of what you said. The chopper wait scenes, the pacing, the story, the lack of characterization, the Skull fights. A lot of the game isn't what metal gear is. My problem with this video is your complete apathetic view towards the core gameplay. The gameplay is boring and reptitive because you aren't creative enough to experiment, try new things, new weapons, strategies, and limitations on yourself? I have a blast using new kinds of grenades, weapons, and gadgets when they are available. You're comment about getting bored can apply to any game. "DMC 4 bores me, all you do is run around either open spaces, or get into the same fight over and over again trying to boost your style meter to SSS" I really like the gameplay of MGSV, but what gets me is the story and boss fights. I hated MGS4's bosses but this game actually makes me miss them.
+Envy987001 Good gameplay isnt a goal in itself. Gameplay without some underlying substance is a very boring thing. This game fucking sucks, I'm a MGS fan since 20 years and this fucking piece of shit of a game is horrible.
+k1lkenny Then why are games like Tetris, Wii Sports, Super Mario or Mario Kart some of the most successful games out there? Just because you don't like gameplay without story it doesn't make it bad :) You can argue MGS5 is a disservice to MGS fans because it strays from the franchise. And I'd completly agree with you. But straying from the franchise doesn't make it a bad game, much less horrible.
Kolvarg I didn't realise those games had an arch developed for them for over 30 years.. Cause they don't. Maybe that is fine for those games but MG is not that type of game. All games don't have to be the same, but Metal Gear solid (even this one) wasn't meant to be a game just for gameplays sake. Kojima tries to tell a story even in this one, it's just so poorly done.
***** The heartless sea scene was the best part about this game, if the entire game had this much heart in it it would have been fantastic. But besides all that this is still a fantastic game purely because of the gameplay.
***** Sure, but it still invalidates the point you made of "gameplay not being a goal in itself". A game can be great with 0 story. MGS V didn't do great in the story department, but in the end it was still a good game. Perhaps the worst MGS game, perhaps not even a good MGS game, but still a very good game in the overall industry imo. It certainly did not deliver in giving an "end" to the franchise as some were expecting. But in the end it still lets you live a part of the MGS universe and fills in some blanks. Consider it a spin-off if you must.
I will stand by the fact that the jeep ride with Skullface is one of the most awfully executed moments in any video game I've ever played. Also, fans of the "gameplay" of Phantom Pain probably are mistaking the game mechanics, which are admittedly great. But the gameplay itself, as mentioned in the video, are so mundane and awful. 90% of the game is doing random tasks for no story reason at all, and could be in any random action stealth game on the market.
Exactly, thank you. It actually staggers me how many people appear to be completely unable to discern the difference between gameplay mechanics and gameplay content.
Many of the missions have excellent level design, pacing, and scripts, but you can easily fuck it up by playing a certain way. I maintain, that when played as intended, this game offers some of the most polished gameplay a person could ask for, albeit burried in repetitive types of missions
Those are the same complaints lodged at death stranding. Everyone has their own idea of fun, but Kojima probably wanted this game to be meticulous and repetitive, up until the last levels or so. Some people just didn’t enjoy it
Yet Kojima Productions created MGS5s stealth/action gameplay and game mechanics that reign supreme to this day. Therefore, saying the gameplay/mechanics could be in any old game seems disingenuous, with a lack of appreciation for what the devs accomplished. I love every MGS title and understand this games' divisiveness within the community. However, I'm glad they ditched the hours long cutscenes and codec calls interrupting gameplay. The main focus was the gameplay, and imo they nailed it almost perfectly. I would have loved to have seen some more linear designed levels thrown into the mix though. Overall, it is my favorite MGS game for many of the reasons people dislike it. It's one of my favorite games ever made!
The jeep ride was a failed attempt to MGS3's ladder sequence. Similar circumstances and all that. Only reason why the ladder sequence was so legendary was because Snake Eater's theme was more somber and didn't feel forced. It ran in the background to keep you company and to make you feel like this is a momentous climb leading up to the game's climax. Phantom Pain's theme, as great as it is, is too action packed to be used in an ordinary jeep ride and basically became out of place so bad that it didn't fit the current scene at all.
Also you're sitting next to the most underdeveloped and ridiculous looking villain ever designed. Both characters just staring at each other. Laughably bad, overlong sequence. Train-wreck of a game. The ladder sequence was a perfect interlude between the change in setting from the jungle to the mountain bases - the jeep ride just takes you to another part of the empty map. Also, remember the epic waterfall escape in Snake Eater that transitioned into an incredibly unique boss fight? There is nothing remotely close to these events in V.
When making a sequel to a story-focused series, the story needs to be good, or at least passable. If MGSV wanted to focus on gameplay over the narrative, it shouldn't have been a Metal Gear game.
It's sad because it feels like Kojima didn't really have any power on the game development. It's just a way of Konami to make money fast and they did but, talking long-term, they fucked themselves up.
+ImPDK One this game probably sold more then all the others combined ? And i'm not even suprised that might be true.. Sure it missed story, but the gameplay for sure did good, and the game is REALLY good.. Just not a MGS game you expected it to be, but that also attracted players like me.. Who thought MGS4 was one pile of shit, it was not a game.. but a movie, well at least i did..
I so far have given this game a 4 out of 10. The whole MGS series is brilliant, but MGS5 was the only one that was poorly made and it sucked in many areas. I didn't feel that MGS spark like i did with the others. The game itself felt more like copy and paste. I didn't like the fact you couldn't carry all your weapons and create chaos like you could in the previous ones. Specially now that you have to pay GMP with the bandanna etc. The missions where not always that enjoyable, specially the 2nd part of the game, i mean seriously, the same mission, just a little updated with the difficulty. They should have given us something else. I felt ripped off most of the time because i just felt like i was doing the same thing. The buddies are ok, i've never used D-Walker, i don't really use Quiet that much anymore, most of the missions, it was me and D-Dog. Online FOB's are beyond shit. If you happen to build one and you don't play the game that much, expect someone to steal everything or kill your men. Konami should have a permanent insurance on your base so if you do end up being attacked and you happen to lose which i've lost a few, everything you had i.e men, resources etc wont be lost, they take a copy of what you had and if any of your men where killed, instead of you actually losing them, they should be sent to sick bay to recover. Another thing i didn't like is that if you want all the good weapons etc, you pretty much need FOB's to get to level 100, specially if you want the extra benefits under the S rank on certain platforms like medical and R&D. It would have been nice to have civilians on the map, that way if you see them being abused by the Russians etc, you could help them out like you get in Farcry 4 from time to time. I still play the game, i want to get all the trophies, after that, i will sell it. I got all S ranks on the missions, but so far, it gets very boring these days D:. MGS3 is my number 1 game, then MGS4, MGS1, MGS2 and of course, MGS5. I do hope Kojima is able to make another one, just improved and more enjoyable
Don't let all the dislikes get you down. I don't see how this is the weakest review so far, when a lot of official reviews that get praised don't actually explain anything about why something is good or bad. Your review at least did. But I'd have to say that games like MGS2 aren't *that* amazing gameplay-wise, never were. Anyway, there is no story, it's just setpiece after setpiece of uninteresting crap, with a bunch of cassette tapes explaining historical events that are frankly irrelevant to the plot. Some tapes do explain story-related things, but there's just no interaction between characters, and the amount of superfluous and dry info is astounding. Playing cassette tapes while sneaking is just distracting... and it's no fun to be stuck listening to a tape in a menu, with no interesting visuals. There is no character development, and like you said, Ocelot is not Ocelot. I don't have any reason to like the characters, because they don't truly bond with Snake. They're one-dimensional and not likable. It's hard to find the right words for this. I'm not sure exactly why, but I don't enjoy the gameplay much either. I know I said old MGSes weren't epically amazing, but this is much worse. It's better from a technical standpoint, but there's so much freedom, there's no way to fuck up, there's no challenge of any kind. That means you don't have to experiment with gear either. And there's no way to really plan anything because most likely there's an enemy hidden behind a wall somewhere anyway... turning the game into some on-the-fly action shit. It feels like there's no atmosphere anywhere. There are no tactics involved, all you need to do is walk somewhere where there's few enemies, take down the one or two that are there, go extract/kill a target, go back the way you came, extract. And you repeat that in almost every mission. Maybe the problem is that there is no real 'level design'... each level plays the same. Many of the things you can do aren't fun and serve exactly the same purpose. The game's just... meh.
+Chameleonard "...there is no real 'level design..." That's exactly it. The gameplay mechanics are probably the best they've ever been but it all falls flat because there really isn't an environment to explore them in. Once you've played the game for a few hours, you've practically played the whole game.
Yeah. Anyway, it's hard to explain it all. It just feels like that's exactly why open world games are so hard to criticize sometimes: because there's no clearly definable gameplay, and the story is often broken up so much that it becomes hard to even remember what it was about, and so on. It's like game developers know that the more open-world it is, the harder it is to quantify and qualify.
+William Selbach True. Do we even have a stake in anything that happens in the game? It just feels like all the missions you do have no real goal, and even if they do, why care about the goal if the characters don't make it interesting? I feel no need to replay the game, which is sad.
+Chameleonard GTA V has the same effect on me....Technically the game is constantly jaw-dropping incredible...but it bored me pretty quickly for the size of it.
Can't believe there are still so many Kojima apologists. Listen, I respect the man and most of his work, but he's just as much to blame as Konami for the mess that was TPP. Would the game have been better had Konami given Kojima the budget and time he requested? Yes, absolutely. But you have to realize Kojima already had 80 million dollars and 5-6 years of development time on the project, that's something 99% of devs in this world can only _dream_ of. Would the game have been better had Kojima kept his own ambitions in check and spent the huge amount of money and dev time he was already given in smarter ways? _Also_ yes. Besides, you can't blame Konami for the horrible writing in the game, that would've turned out all the same no matter what, and that's all on Kojima. Face it, the man's writing had been on the decline since Snake Eater, he was slowly but surely becoming the George Lucas of games. But of course, it's easier to just point fingers at Konami and blame them for everything (don't get me wrong though, they _are_ assholes either way), than acknowledging that someone like Kojima can make mistakes.
thank you! I see it the same way. kojima had so much time and money and he fucked it up. Look at witcher 3. it was developt in under 5 years and they didn't need so much money like kojima.
Ben "The Montana Merchant Mangler" Garrison why though? What did this game benefit from being open world? I would've gladly taken another MGS4 looking game with different linear but open sections if we got something of actual substance.
wow, after watching your video and comparing them with the older games you are absolutely right. Metal gear used to be about story telling and innovation. This is more about game-play for the current generation of teenage gamers. I think back in the day people used to enjoy hard games with meaningful story now ADHD has got such a strong hold on our society that there would be an outrage if the game was at all challenging. Dont get me wrong, I actually enjoyed the game, graphics where nice and i liked the whole "sneaky, sneaky, openworld" but this feels like farcry 3 with a mgs skin. Infact the story of farcry 3 was actually pretty good.
+mstrKracked One last comment though. If you were to forget MGS ever existed and think of this as a stand alone game its very good for the first chapter in a game series as a contender to the other mgs games it almost feels out of place. Oh and the money they spent on this game would have been better spent on a live action mgs film that would be awesome.
you're trying to tell me that Metal Gear Solid 1 with hard? first off these genetically enhanced soldiers can only see five feet in front of them. they will follow your footsteps in circles for hours if you wanted. there's cyborg ninja's. a virus that gives people heart attacks but no not the hero. bad controls especially for shooting but still manageable. it's literally like a six hour long game if you cut out all the cutscenes and codec calls. basically the whole game is about infiltrating 1 base. but now with Metal Gear 5 you get way more so how can you even compare the two?
Well games are actually still completely and utterly brutal if you don't play on the hardest difficulty like the souls series those games are praised and loved a problem with the phantom pain is that it doesn't have harder difficulty settings it just reacts to what you do which is good but a difficulty choice should be in every game
+mstrKracked Can you not use the word ADHD? I have started seeing this word come up a lot with this generation of gamers and it's very annoying because I have adhd. Please look into a study of ADHD.
BtHer0 sorry if I offended you I don't mean it, but this is the internet and just as you can say something is cancerous, ADHD is used to describe the deficit of attention in the game.
MGS Peace Walker had Amazing Graphics for PSP, Good story, Great Cutscene, Great gameplay, Good maps, Simple and Clean Base management, Alot of Mission variety, and Damn good Boss fights, CO-OP mode through almost entire missions, and Most Importantly Portability. MGSV was DAMN GOOD gameplay gets boring after Copy and Paste missions, Boring story, Empty maps, No CO-OP, Base management was Improved but something is missinng. YUP, MGSV IS BORING.
+Turtoi Radu Nope. Just three guys who paid their own money and actually put some time into the game instead of being rushed on easy mode through cushy press events.
Alis Zigg Isn't Hyperbithero in the USA Air Force? I know HBH and TGB know each other from Gather Your Party. Super Bunny Hop seems pretty independent though.
For me, MGSV's core gameplay - the sneaking and infiltration - are the best the series has ever had. There was plenty to experiment with, and it made up the vast majority of the gameplay, even if it had to reuse a lot of content to do it. It's just that everything else is weaker. Which is a huge shame.
The presentation was the best so far in the series. The story's it self and it's pacing wasn't great but that has nothing to do with presentation. The MGS story line was never even that great imo. There are so many retcons and cringe worthy lines through out every game. What made the story interesting, at least for me, were the characters. Even then solid snake wasn't that original. He's based off of Kurt Russel from escape from New York and I believe Big Boss was based off of Sean Connery.
The circle is complete. Literally every important video game commentator has made a MGSV vid today, I swear. You, Superbunnyhop, hyperbithero, Kitetales. I'm not terribly important but I even made one too lol
Remember how you told me it was clever as hell what Kojima did in MGS2? Well consider your frustration over things missing and who you really play as. Now consider the name of the game. Pretty sure Kojima rused you.
+Action Points MGS2 had a lot of content cut like character, bossfights or setpieces, but IT WAS A COMPLETE GAME! With a real message and not this little "gg ur Big Boss, here have a cookie"- shit he pulled of in V
4,330 likes and dislikes? That just goes to show divided people are on this game. Although I have a feeling that many of those who disliked this video only read the title and didn't even bother to listen to any of the points that were made.
+loseho inwmak or just get annoyed but this idiotic bash on the game . ofc it has some bad sides because its not even finished but this video is just a fuckin bash
I think that this video has so many dislike because it is just whinning and whinning from a little bitch thats all, of course the game has flaws but there isn't a single one that is perfect
I picked up my first MGS game at 13 y.o. (MGS2) and fell in love with the MGS series went back played 1, 3, and pretty much bought a PS3 because of mgs4, and and PS4 because of mgs5. This game was such a disappointment to the series. Everything the video talks about is spot on, anyone who truly loves the MGS series understands exactly what he means
+Sonickick120reborn I think the majority of players are indeed just new players. Cool they're introduced to the franchise I guess, but only if they knew how much potential this game had
+Casemaster3000 Do you guys understand how arrogant and dumb you sound? MGS is such a great gaming series that newcomers to the series who love it and think it's 10/10 game would think that the other MGS's are 15/10 or some dumb shit? I've played MGS 2, 3, and peace walker, and you guys are over rating the shit out of the franchise. Nostalgia is a bitch.
I was expecting at least some easter eggs in the world. Some weird ruins on the outlskirts of one of the maps, a secret door, anything. I scoured those maps for hours looking for anything out of place and interesting. It’s all rocks, trees and dirt. Nothing cool.
Can't really say I agree with everything in this vid. I prefer MGS1 and maybe 3 over this game but I'd say this was a pretty fun game and satisfied me in most levels story wise. I do wish it got more time in development for the 2nd half of the game but I enjoyed it for what it was. It has the best gameplay in the series imo.
lol. you are not a metal gear fan... this game was not a Metal Gear series game. Phantom Pain was blaintly unfinished garbage cause Kojima left Konami. Death Stranding was the biggest telling of it because I think Death Stranding gamestyle (cinematic + gameplay) was what MGS V Phantom Pain was supposed to be. If you enjoyed the gamplay, you only enjoyed a shell of the game.
@dudeguyri keep noticing alot of gatekeeping between the fans for some reason. I'm tryna find out which games good, since i enjoyed 5 alot and haven't played any of the others, but damn it feels like it's taboo sometimes to like a specific MG game, everyone attacks the other lol
I am the largest MGS fan I know, and I agree 100%. I loved the beginning of the game, about 4-5 hours of it, love MGS3-4 with all my heart, fav games of all time with 2 and 1 right behind it. It was repetitive a lot of the time, the story was mediocre as fuck compared to any other in the series with the tapes being cheap as hell and fucking stupid, it is inconsistent as hell, the twist pissed me off, no David Hayter, the tech differences from the rest of the series was horrible, as in the mechs and stuff were basically more advanced than even Rex, I hated running around often, as it ruined pacing, although I enjoyed the gameplay a lot of the time, health regen is meh, bosses were absolute trash, and it was too simple and easy with tracking enemies and such. I can go on, but I won't. I blame Konami. It isn't a bad game, just one of the worst in the main series, that is, until Survive comes. That is going to be trash.
To be fair Kiefer Sutherland was really good as big boss in my opinion,he definitely sounds more mature and grounded, almost as if he's still in pain which makes sense
"no David Hayter" "love MGS3-4 with all my heart, fav games of all time with 2 and 1 right behind it. " You do know that Venom Snake and Solid Snake are not the same person yes? What does Hayter have to do with it? Lmao. Spoiled fanboys and muh storyline.
@@pokerone6489 Yeah I am a fan I'm allowed to like what I like, ur also responding to a 4 year comment on a video critiquing the game. David Hayter is also BB, so why wasn't he voicing BB in MGSV? Dumbest comment I've seen is muh story, it's fucking MGS what do you expect?
@@jeanniemaycrawford4466 It was though? Gameplay was engaging and varied, progression felt natural, and the story served as a great ending to the franchise. Frankly, the series should have stopped there, though I do quite enjoy Peace Walker and elements of TPP.
For me the mechanics are the best in the series but MGS5 suffers from the same issues practically all open world games suffer form in that there's a lack of focus and as you put it repetition. Fortunately for me I got adjusted to this new style of Metal Gear when I played Peace Walker so the disappointment isn't as hard for me. Also with it not having that satisfying flow of past games I don't think I will be playing it again in the future. Past games have unique scenarios while MGS5 does the same stuff over and over again.
+slightlytwistedagain pretty much, it's the huge flaw with open world games the pacing and focus will usually suffer. With a linear experience it's just far easier to create a focused and well paced narrative.
+slightlytwistedagain I'm starting to think that when people complain about stuff like lack of focus in an open world game that they are playing it for the wrong reason. I feel that at their heart, and open world game is about expression of the player and the tools to explore and roam. As for pacing I find this another strange thing to complain about. I see the problem in games where there is some sort of ticking clock or the primary mission far outweighs the small bits of dicking around, but I don't really see that in MGS 5.
+Aaron Burch The problem though is that most open world games don't really forces on player expression and as for exploration the issue is that it can also be repetitive as these games (like Skyrim) reuses old dungeon designs, enemies and items.
shadowmaydawn I'd argue that the freedom of having so many options available is player expression. Also I think "repetitive" has a great deal of subjectivity to it. For some people, new layouts of similar spaces creates all the difference.
I hate this open-world on every game trend. MGS is a serie that does not at all fits an open-world. So is an open-world Zelda I would say. Only time will tell.
MegaLuros I think MGSV sets a bad precedent for open world games. It proved you could have an emotionally barren story, empty open-world and and lacklustre gameplay and still walk away with perfect 10s from everyone.
Eh. Survive couldn't ruin anything vital that MGSV didn't ruin already. Survive sucks, and it's worse in literal terms, but to fans of the series the hardest blow will always be V.
@@thankfullydaniel4212 how? Leslie this is the only major video I can find criticising the Phantom pain this hard and it's heavily disliked. I'll fuckton of people like the Phantom pain but not for its story it has phenomenal game play but this guy just pretends it doesn't the whole time by using footage of running on foot when there's literally a mechthat you can drive at high speeds from one side of the map to the other in less than 3 minutes
@@kylekondit9709 Play the other games. Personally I think MGS3 has way better gameplay, the controls aren't as polished but at least it has actual level design.
Survive is far better and coherent and complete game than friggin' PP. It just does not have Dojima label on it, so Dojima fanboys are not gaslighed into thinking it's a masterpiece by default.
TPP is objectively the worst MGS in the main serie, only overshadowed in terms of being shite by Portable Ops and Peacewalker. It cost Kojima his Konami gig and cost Konami 80 million usd for a half baked game with an unfinished story, and all the casual players lapped it up because muh Kojima, see how well that worked with Death Stranding lol.
MGS 4: the fanservice game for hard fans of the series, that wasn´t well recieved but still has the heart of Metal Gear MGS V: the game that is for critiques to put straight 10 on their reviews, but shits on fans expectations leaving us with a phantom pain of a franchise that should´ve died with Solid Snake MG Survive: the game that shows us that Konami can´t do shit without Kojima. Instead of remaking previous games with the Fox Engine they decide to do FUCKING PACHINKO SLOT MACHINES AND A "POKE A ZOMBIE WITH A STICK" THE GAME
It's very understandable from a financial standpoint. MGSV had a budgeg of what, 80 million? That's the number that you'd be looking at with a remake of an older title, and Metal Gear isn't the type of brand that will earn you hundreds of millions with a new release, so why bother using all those resources in a costly game, when you can use them on something more profitable? Unfortunately it means that Metal Gear and Metal Gear: Solid Snake will almost certainly never get the remakes that those games definitely deserve.
But without good bosses and a linear story plot that is constantly evolving and interesting cutscenes and in which Big Boss actually talks? Let’s not forget Peace Walker is a PSP game by the way
Peace walker is much better than phantom pain. It has linear stealth gameplay that always held my interest, bosses good from a purely gameplay standpoint ( since they were all nuclear AI weapons they didn’t have the capacity to be good characters however they were tied into the plot well), and an interesting plot that shows more how big boss came to terms with the bosses death. His speech at the end is him realizing what the boss had meant about the times. Listen to it again and analyze his true meaning for yourself.
Tpp is worse considering peace walker was on psp, also I think that pw bosses were great in terms of gameplay and they were good in terms of story, especially at the end.
+ZockerKauz My thoughts exactly. I guess they were perfecting Fox Engine but fuck me, that still doesn't excuse the fact that game is only 75 percent complete... If not less, that is.
+ZockerKauz Dude. Look back, play it again. MGS3 (and most other MGS for that matter) did not in the least have any more variety in terms of objectives. 90% of the time - aside from the occasional "exotic gameplay" sequence like for example the disguise stuff in the Research building - it had you going from point A to B, then fight a Boss, maybe trigger a cutscene here and there. You can say what you want about the story, I agree mostly on that part. But the GAMEPLAY was the best of the series, as were the objectives. MGS was ALWAYS driven and SOLD by it's story. The only thing you might say is that sometimes parts of the gameplay were there to underline the story in contrast to MGSV, which I agree on. But to be honest I prefer freedom of approach over a sequence that has very little variation when playing it multiple times, becoming stale pretty quickly, like the previous entries had them. That being said, there would have been MORE THAN ENOUGH opportunities and possibilities to fit a proper and more substantial story into the game without changing anything about the mission design or freedom of the player. I actually liked Chapter 1. It felt like a complete experience, as a "starting point" for the game. That is how I felt when the "Chapter 2" sign came around. I was like "oh, okay, so there is probably 2 or 3 Chapters, and this was just the beginning. Well, and then everything falls apart. No matter if it was on purpose as some people claim or if it was due to development being cut (budget/time), it's disappointing either way. Because those cutscenes and story moments that are there (well, most) feel and look amazing. The problem is there are not NEARLY enough, CH. 2 reuses missions from CH. 1 for 80% of it's content and the game would have needed 3 Chapters, as well as more cutscenes in the later Chapters (2 + 3). And the ending would have needed missions building UP to it. As for the engine. Actually they started developing the engine right after the development of MGS4 was finished. They had 7 years for the engine. 3 years to develop solely the engine, and 4 years (theoretically) for the game. Even if they only had 3 years, what they came up with is really lacking. I have no idea why. I mean in MGS, the story comes first right? Wouldn't they first nail down the story early, do all cutscenes, voice recording, etc. BEFORE trying to PERFECT and POLISH the gameplay? Have no idea what went wrong there. (That being said I agree that SIDE OPS can become repetitive, and I would have preferred more unique side ops, maybe more story-related side-ops as well, and some of the main missions could easily have been classified as "important side-ops" and not as main ops. Skull face was a little bit of a letdown as a villain, even if I like the Parasite storyline, and motherbase is just too empty)
***** Wait a sec. what are we discussing here? The repeated use of locations? Thats ok for me, the older games did nothing different. You run around and become familiar with the places and blablabla. But what brings my piss to a boil is that the game lacks nearly everything good about a MGS game and that the side ops are just uninspired. Where are the goofy side ops Peace walker had? The Fulton shooting booth, the reanimate the dead soldier while their ghosts are haunting the place or my favourite the monster hunter missions. What about all the fun weapons that were in PW like the Fulton launcher? Phantom pain lacks content in every way I can think of right now. Sorry for any misunderstandings here or my poor use of english edit.: And what happened with the music? The series build over the years a giant library of amazing Tracks/songs and only 2 are in the game. The new for PP composed tracks are lacking emotions too. I was so pumped when I rescued Paz in GZ and got spoted and the track played while I was running to the chopper.
I remember being disappointed with Peace Walker. I didn't hate it or anything but all the time spent in a menu instead of actually playing the game really turned me off to it. I was hopeful that MGS5 wouldn't continue down that path, but it wasn't just more of the same: it was worse. I have no idea what happened here but I honestly think Kojima got a little full of himself and started throwing every idea he had into MGS5. I never thought it was a good idea to have complete creative control over a project because it means that there's no one around to check your bad ideas. Don't get me wrong, Kojima is a visionary video game maker, but even he can make some bad decisions from time to time.
You can’t you were disappointed with Peace Walker with all the goofy and fun Side Ops you can do. Like fight Monster Hunter bosses and a dinosaur version of Metal Gear Rex.
True I really don't care for the direction peace walker took the series it's too grindy and filled with padding. MGS V made it worse like you said. I actually loved the story in peace walker but I can't say the same for mgs v.
Totally agreed with virtually everything you said. I could've forgiven the weak plot, disappointing characters and other things that don't matter too much in a game, but it was the shockingly boring and repetitive side ops that felt so anti-MGS that made all the good stuff so irredeemable. A great chunk of the main missions were brilliantly designed, with tons of creative replay value that felt like a true MGS game, yet the last bunch you get of those feel so obviously rushed. It was ultimately the side ops that just overwhelm the gameplay with far too much boredom. Say what you will about MGS4, but when you start digging deep with the game you find an absolute jewel of a game with every single part of the gameplay 10/10 that blows every other single player game away to this day. MGSV has it's moments, but it trips over itself way too much and feels like black sheep of the family.
Mgs 4 at least has the core game flavor of the others. The fan service is out of control, but it does the gameplay experience of the franchise as good as the rest.
Not sure why so many dislikes, all are valid points imo. I didn't think any of the missions in MGSV were really memorable. Hell, even 'the ladder sequence' from MGS3 was more memorable than the repetitive extractions of NPC's you'll never see or hear from again. I also hated the idea of a mute snake. They had someone as talented as Kiefer Sutherland and decided to use him mainly for mixtapes most players won't listen to.
Honestly my biggest problem with it was just that it was too easy once you found the optimal strategy of kill everyone in the base then run around freely, getting all the collectibles and grabbing the objective. Like all it needed was some interesting things happening during alert phase, like reinforcements coming in with tanks or just tons of troops. You call in air support, if the enemy's comm network is still up, they call in air support. But no, you can easily just kill or tranq everyone in a camp and then you win.
@Shinobu The other mgs games have a lot more challenge to them because they didn't have shit that made the the game too easy like air strikes, air support, tagging, suppressed sniper rifles, supply drops, armours, regenerating health, reflex mode (yes, you could turn it off but it was still there and even without it the game is still piss easy), chicken hat (yes, optional but the other games didn't give you such an option, if you were struggling with a section or boss it was up to you to figure out how to beat it, not let the game give you an easy out), other characters with abilities, dynamic weather, vehicles.
Was the chronological sequels to 3 unnecessary? Yes. But were they fun? In my experience I'd say Peace Walker and MGSV are fun games, just that in the grand scheme of the franchise and plot, they're bastard child's almost. Somewhere back then I'd say I would like them to never existed at all but then I'd miss out on Peace Walkers Monster Hunter missions and it's practically the only game to have co-op outside of MGO
In short, MGSV is a bad MGS game, but as a game itself it's pretty good. I mean most of the points listed are completely valid but the same thread arises that most of the things that happen are weak against the past game comparisons. I mean, what can really top the previous games instead of improving on some of the mechanics?
Personally I really enjoyed Peace Walker as an MGS game, this however is a different case. A good game like you said but a poor MGS game. I think they added way too many features from other games and didn't keep enough Metal Gear Solid in it.
Any MGS fans that play Peace Walker would pick up on the lack of actual stealth, enemies have terrible vision range, sneaking suit completely breaks their hearing and so on. But in absence of a deeper stealth, there's the side ops of vehicle battles, ghost hunting, Monster Hunter missions and more. Plus you have to consider that it was released on the PSP, a handheld mostly used by the Japanese on their train rides and travel, so they'd have to make a game which could be played in short bursts. Plus I think Peace Walker still has the Kojima charm, it's so goofy and over the top right until the very end, even Paz's little speech in Zeke is absolute bloated with camp and nowhere near the seriousness of other villains monologue.
Berg Electron Peace Walker is a great adventure for or those fun little things and how it acts as a portable title, but as an upscaled console release it leaves a lot to be desired, especially if you're coming off of Snake Eater beforehand. I like Peace Walker and Phantom Pain as standalone games but they just can't hold a candle to the first 4 MGSs overall - their successes in gameplay and presentation are undermined by their redundant plots and padding. If Kojima wanted to revisit the story of Big Boss and make it integral to the series' overarching story, he should of done it before MGS4.
Peace Walker was probably my favorite MGS game, I loved seeing more about Naked snake and "even though it's not a main installment" It's a fucking main installment. An example of why I loved that game: I was genuinely pissed about the QTE encounter with Strangelove, but by the end I understood WHY she was such an asshole and respected it. The little things like that weren't in MGSV, as fun as MGSV's _freedom of movement was._ It didn't have the character of any game before it, not even PW. I'm still pissed at how Kojima cucked pretty much every Peace Walker character.
You know for years now I thought no one had actually legitimately critiqued the phantom pain and then I complained about it to a friend and he linked me to your video. This game gave me phantom pain man, thanks for actually criticizing the relative waste of time that is MGSV.
@@pokerone6489 I wouldn't say so. In technicality EVERYTHING IS POINTLESS if everything is just gonna die. It's all about the journey, not tue the destination. Videogames can tell a story, give an unforgettable experience and overall can bring happiness.
This game really feels like it was made for people who haven't played metal gear before, the story is one thing but I thought they made it way too easy. I guess most players are loving the game at least
Worst part about MGS V is the Clash of Clans style timers to develop things. Why!? Why are these here!? There is literally no reason for these to be here, nor for them to be days long! Ok, so I get enough engineers in the right departments to be able to develop the weapon. I get enough materials to develop the weapon... And now I have to wait 6 hours? Save for some arbitrarily "special" items, none of the timers will tick down unless the game is open. When I got to that part where you save the kids, I didn't have the kid-friendly balloon. So I got all the resources to develop the balloon, then went AFK for half an hour. There is absolutely no reason for that to be a thing in *any* game at all.
I loved the 159 hours I put into MGS V, but the story and the plot twist at the end left me disappointed and with a sense of betrayal. Although I find it very hard to accept that this was not Big Boss, I am really upset that the comradery between Quiet and Big Boss, which was the game's highlight, never happened; it was Quiet and the Medic who were the great team. The only contact Quiet and Big Boss had was when they tried to kill each other, in the game's opening. Maybe the real "Phantom Pain" was the feeling I got when I learned that what I loved the most about the MGS series, Big Boss, like Miller's arm and leg, was missing. Ask any amputee and they'll tell you how much they miss their lost limbs. Well, I miss my Big Boss. 9/10 review from me, but the plot holes and twist ending were what I will remember the most about an otherwise exceptional game.
"When Konami makes their next non-Kojima production Metal Gear, at least it won't be as bad as the Phantom Pain" Konami: "hold my beer" Metal Gear Survive
"If this was a review, it'd be glowing. But as a critique, its going to be pretty rough." This video to me, atleast is a hit piece of hatred. Its the same cycle with mgs2, people hated it. And now people are starting to love it. Games are always gonna be redeemed.
Yeah it seems more like a fanboy upset he didn’t get what he wanted. The game has a lot of flaws but to act like it’s terrible when it has so much content, attention to detail and plays better than games today 8 years later is insane
Its almost like the people who try to go against you haven't played a metal gear game!

I don't understand by what you mean by scam.
*would've
This. I was genuinely disappointed this wasn't in the game, I remember there's a mission early on where Kaz straight up says there are Mujahedeen in the area attacking a base and there just weren't

"At least it can't be as bad as The Phantom Pain."
Oh, you've got a way to fall...
Only Survive was waaaay better. I'm sure you never played it but just jump on the bandwagon 🤷♂️
@@perfect.stealth Survive did have some good things, but also a lot of bad things as well. The constant grind for food/water/air and only being able to save at camp made the game a pain in the ass sometimes.
I liked The Panthom pain. No matter how much youtubers complain about it i simply cant dislike it, loved playing that game.
Peacewalker and this are meant to be taken in bursts, so the mission structure makes more sense as it gives you more stopping points
But I’m the kind of person who doesn’t care about the story in a videogame.
lol. "Why am I collecting heroism points in a game about being Big Boss?" Excellent question!
He's a hero in the eyes of others. An example like Sniper wolf where she talked about him like a hero.

It's just sad that Ground Zeroes layed the groundwork for TPP perfectly. And then they threw it all overboard.
My problem with mgs5 is the pacing. You spend more time calling in choppers and micromanaging recruits, than actually playing missions.

Why can't more Phantom Pain defenders be like you?
this game is a horrible metal gear solid game. the story seems pointless, and if konami releases another metal gear im not buying it. But as for a game play itself, it's pretty good.
+Justin Reed Some of his points are strongly based on his taste, so no, not irrefutable, just subjective :)
*****
The most glaring one is his points on gameplay being "mediocre".
I think the game itself was great in terms of gameplay and graphics... but the story was very disappointing and the whole game just felt incomplete.
Exactly. It's the best metal gear regarding gameplay for me, but the worst story wise.
I agree and people who say the gameplay is bad I physically cringe at, it is so fun gameplay wise.
To add to the famous 'i want to run in the desert instead of play the objective', I found even worse the 'take an hour observing your objective in every possible angle in the hope of not missing any enemy with your binocular'
Even Hitman, that first games greatly suffered from that understood the problem and made the game more accessible by Blood Money. MGS5 Made it worse
"At least it can't be as bad as Phantom Pain".
OH BOY I GOT NEWS FOR YOU
I partially agree with you..
+Sir Gildo Reflex mode is extremely important due to all of the angles from which the player can be spotted from.
+Aaron Burch and yet I've played the whole game without reflex mode. It's completely unnecessary.
Sir Gildo I'm pretty sure you can beat Devil May Cry without Devil Trigger too, doesn't make it not important.
+Erik Ravenclaw there just fanboys that don't want to accept mgs ended like this

I liked the core gameplay but its tone was very different to previous instalments and it's clear the game was never finished and was severely effected by the Konami vs Kojima issue.
+shikenkanbaby
the game isn't finished and to make it longer they just add loading screens, unskipable helicopter rides, and a long and baron travel to each outpost. hell they even deploy you farther from your objective to pad out the game! i really can't see how konami put so much money into the game. like did 90% of the budget go to keither sutherland cuz it definitely wasn't worth it...I'M SERIOUS IS THIS FAR CRY 5????(oh wait at least far cry can make a good villian.)
playing this just makes me want a mgs bundle for this gen of consoles(which i don't see happening but considering that they made 2 the last gen, it's still a possibility.)
Which clearly indicates a problem.
lol dude i'm playing assassins creed syndicate and it did the whole "manage your own army" thing 10 times better than TPP
first they actually have you working with people who have a personality. second when you buy something can use it right then and there instead of wait on the "development time"(yes peace walker had the same mechanic but it didn't feel like something that was leading to a microtransaction.) the missions are usually not to far away and even if they are theres a bunch of stuff that you can do inbetween the travel there. they let you fast travel without having to go to a certain location to fast travel. oh and you can play as the character they marketed to you 5 minutes into the game instead of crawling on the freaking floor for 1 hour!and they fixed the amount of time it takes to climb high buildings with a grappling hook. Basically they don't waste your time.
Assasins creed made a better open world stealth action game than the MGS franchise?

"You too have known loss, and that loss torments you still. You hope hatred might someday replace the pain, but it never goes away. It makes a man hideous, inside and out. Wouldn't you agree? We both are demons. Our humanity won't return."
-Skull Face
We both have walked this path, and have become changed by it, and there's no way for us to go back to where we were."
It's not really a new concept, it's basically one of those "we are the same!" moment! that bosses often decide to throw out.
not really, again, the revenge aspect. that can be created hatred. hatred that was not there before.
anyway, here's the final peace of evidence.
he speaks of a language crisis, or culture crisis.
This is likely because at a very young age when he would be developing his identity, he was exposed to multiple different cultural views "
With each new post, my masters changed, along with the words they made me speak." And with no parents to use as a form of reference. he had no anchor to base for determining who he was. he had nothing to define him, much like snake lost everything after lousing the boss, and mother base.
Hmm, this would actually make an interesting video, I'm gonna have to read into this a little more,
but still keep replying with your thoughts.
+kabeltelevizio "but his method was something someone who hasn't left his room for a decade would invent. "
yes, kojima is no stranger to 'just go with it' in the since department, and yes, future generations may forget the language, and overtime if not used, the speaker may forget some of it, but the whole idea of conversion is to change something from one state to another "from 1 to 0" with just language the person them selves would not change they's be added to, but with culture adjustment, their very live style and customs would change, and I think the main reason he was going after English is because it's the most popular language on the planet (if you count those who speak it as a second language)
He spoke of zero using English to unite the world (under his control) think tower of babel from the Old Testament, Buy destroying English, not only can he stop zero's plan, and kill zero, but he thinks by eliminating the language 'forced' on so many he can make it so we have multiple languages (cultures) again true diversity, by embracing out 'past present and future(?)
he says it's "not an ethnic cleanser, it's a liberator to free the world from zero"
basically he just wants to free the world, you know by killing billions.
The two main things I take from this are,
1. He wants to stop zero's plan
2. he wants 'sans Lingua franca' no language bridge
So I guess it is more about language then culture,
I got more ideas about #2 on the way, but need to do a little more digging, tell me what you think
+kabeltelevizio Turns out Ground zeros had a TON of info on skull face, but I Guess I missed all of it,
check out 'Metal Gear Solid V - Skull Face Origins, Master Plan, & Analysis! (Ground Zeroes)' by YongYea for that.
I spent more time working through the monlogue, and I think I picked up on a few things, in short Zero's plan is the basis of the system from Mgs2,
Controlling the world through words, with information control. skull face plans to break countries a part by first getting rid of the common language, destroying them to a point, but when they seek to rebuild, he will provide each with a metal gear, equalizing their power. in his mind this way no country will have more power or influence then another. And he claims this will bring peace.
He's already taken care of zero, now he sets to rest the world. not to destroy or rule it.
Anyway there's a bit more to it then that, I just finished my video that breaks down the whole monologue if you're interested:

To me when the series started exploring Big Boss is where it went wrong. You might be in the minority Gaming Brit Show, but I agree with you. Solid Snake is the character I was invested in.
Did you know there was a mission where you see solid snake creeping around motherbase ? There's a door you could go in by intel area , he uses stealth camo and you have to have NVG to track him then a cutscene which was cut. You couldn't actually fight Snake or speak to him obviously but it would have been very cool to see him . Soooo much cut , so sad.
Thanks Chinga. Is there a video you can see this?
I highly doubt that. Snake is 12 years old during the events of this game, he's not gonna be infiltrating Mother Base, he hasn't even met Big Boss yet.
I thought Snake Eater was good, but I'm with you: Solid Snake is the guy I was most invested in and those games to me where the most enjoyable. MGS1 will always be my favourite, regardless of graphical quality it is still the most emotionally moving of them all for me and the most exciting, despite the fact I've played that game 20+ times. Goodbye Snake, goodbye Otacon, we will miss you!
Voted up.
They suffer from the same problem:
They both are examples of a beautiful and smooth-playing technical masterpiece that is an extreme dissapointment with too much hype and expectation behind them, not too mention this was a result of a blatantly misleading advertisement campaign.
Emiliano Rodriguez to be honest, the destiny taken king was actually really good, was surprised how much i enjoyed it vs the original

Zagardal yeah theres too many other games, i may go back to the phantom pain at some point if theres a quiet window on game releases. Ive just finished the Witcher 3 DLC which was epic, with a better story imo than the main game !

The hype will never be forgotten though.
physically broken ? really ? You sound like a bitch big smoke , times are changing so you better change with them ! The game had a weak story but gameplay wise it's pretty interesting , not like mgs ever had a special story to begin with... Just copied memes and cultural mashup !
No this is simply not true. It cannot be! The story in the other games was really good.

+youweechube not only that... it's a sneaking game in a giant world with essentially no cover outside of settlements. just ZZZZ, fulton, repeat.

Metal Gear Solid games were anti-war propaganda. The philosophy wasn't in the narrative, but in the mechanics. Don't you feel something when you send your soldiers to missions for resources? Don't you feel anything when you send them, sometimes knowing, that they will die?! Darksiege357 no metal gear survive is a real game in development
(Whether that happened before MG1 or during it is unclear, it likely happened before)
The game truly does give you a wide, expansive amount of freedom.

I agree with every single word.
"Real heroes aren't as polised as the legend surrounding them."
"As the tales have spread, the truth's been distorted, painted over."
I'm not sure that half of the stuff Diamond Dogs engages in would be considered the activities of "good guys"... (e.g. plundering precious African natural resources to fund your private military; developing a nuke without being part in any sort of international treaties; being just a straight-up, plain old fanatical cult)
@@wdcain1 Venom snake is the legend, Big boss is the man
Venom took children from the war to protect them, Big boss took children to put them in war ( peace walker )
yet you give mgs 2 a pass when the trailers didn't show Raiden.
Except MGSV has more cutscenes than 1, 3, and PW.
Thanatos388 What? Do you have a source for that? Because I can almost guarantee that MGSV does not have more cutscenes.
LOL
+Batman com Preparo Oooooor opinions. Y'know.
I agree with the most. I mean isn't story what we love most about mgs? And you forgot to mention codec calls.. I missed it so much.
There's codec calls they just play while you're in the game

"DMC 4 bores me, all you do is run around either open spaces, or get into the same fight over and over again trying to boost your style meter to SSS"
I really like the gameplay of MGSV, but what gets me is the story and boss fights.
Just because you don't like gameplay without story it doesn't make it bad :)
You can argue MGS5 is a disservice to MGS fans because it strays from the franchise. And I'd completly agree with you. But straying from the franchise doesn't make it a bad game, much less horrible.
Kolvarg
I didn't realise those games had an arch developed for them for over 30 years.. Cause they don't. Maybe that is fine for those games but MG is not that type of game. All games don't have to be the same, but Metal Gear solid (even this one) wasn't meant to be a game just for gameplays sake. Kojima tries to tell a story even in this one, it's just so poorly done.

The heartless sea scene was the best part about this game, if the entire game had this much heart in it it would have been fantastic.

+Bernard Williams but he hasn't released a video of MGS V: TPP
+Bernard Williams In a year perhaps.
Ugandan Knuckles It also played Snake Eater a cappella. Big difference.
V is more of a "gameplay matters" type of game, its sad for a mgs game tho
When making a sequel to a story-focused series, the story needs to be good, or at least passable. If MGSV wanted to focus on gameplay over the narrative, it shouldn't have been a Metal Gear game.
even from that perspective its still not the best metal gear solid by a long shot.
The core sneaking gameplay has never been smoother, but it lacks the attention to detail and charming idiosyncrasies of previous titles.
too bad the gameplay sucks
Abel Paige shame the gameplay is nothing like the other games
It's sad because it feels like Kojima didn't really have any power on the game development. It's just a way of Konami to make money fast and they did but, talking long-term, they fucked themselves up.

I guess so
+ImPDK Is that why the game has Kojima's name plastered over it like 500 times?
+ImPDK One this game probably sold more then all the others combined ? And i'm not even suprised that might be true.. Sure it missed story, but the gameplay for sure did good, and the game is REALLY good.. Just not a MGS game you expected it to be, but that also attracted players like me.. Who thought MGS4 was one pile of shit, it was not a game.. but a movie, well at least i did..
+Nick Dorland Typical human nature. It's simply not possible to like one thing without calling its immediate predecessor "one pile of shit" is it?
I do hope Kojima is able to make another one, just improved and more enjoyable
the irony is that this 2015 gane holds up better than every 2020s game
That's true.
Well not every game but a lot of them indeed
+Paul Taylor
At least GTA:V changed the formula with heists. Sadly, they never added more (which it needed).
Yep, totally agree and would say the same things.
thank you! I see it the same way. kojima had so much time and money and he fucked it up. Look at witcher 3. it was developt in under 5 years and they didn't need so much money like kojima.
I think he spent most of the budget and time on making a entire fucking engine
Ben "The Montana Merchant Mangler" Garrison why though? What did this game benefit from being open world? I would've gladly taken another MGS4 looking game with different linear but open sections if we got something of actual substance.
Redgrave192 Such a well put comment.
wow, after watching your video and comparing them with the older games you are absolutely right.

Is there some embargo I don't know about. Both you, Hyperbithero and Super Bunnyhop uploaded your MGS 5 videos the same day.
And they're the best reviews of the game so far. What does that tell you about all the universal acclaim this game's received from journalists?
+Turtoi Radu Nope. Just three guys who paid their own money and actually put some time into the game instead of being rushed on easy mode through cushy press events.
+SaberRexZealot Considering their reviews of Mass Effect 3 and DmC: Devil May Cry we can safely say they're out of touch with video games.
+Turtoi Radu They work at the place and became friends.
+Roberto Matesanz its not a small thing! The gameplay is the most important thing about a game! It used to be everything until the late 90s..
+Roberto Matesanz but you've still been playing everyday so this game did enough right to keep you playing.
+ShayMay The variety in the gameplay was excellent.
+Preston Washington actually ,originally , snake was based off of a future war Kyle Reese from terminator..
The circle is complete. Literally every important video game commentator has made a MGSV vid today, I swear. You, Superbunnyhop, hyperbithero, Kitetales. I'm not terribly important but I even made one too lol

lol. you are not a metal gear fan... this game was not a Metal Gear series game.

@@bigboi5545 can you really say that mgs 4 was better than mgs 1/2/SE?
Aaron Burch That really depends on what options the game provides.
Yes making changes to the layout can help but only to certain extent.
So....MGS3 can't fit an open world...?
Umm Zelda has been open world literally since the first game...

@@Grandmaster-Kush Oh no, poor Konami (sarcarsm)
@@sddlol19 It's easy to understand why Kojima got the boot, and he went and did it again but on his own instead.
MGS 4: the fanservice game for hard fans of the series, that wasn´t well recieved but still has the heart of Metal Gear
MGS V: the game that is for critiques to put straight 10 on their reviews, but shits on fans expectations leaving us with a phantom pain of a franchise that should´ve died with Solid Snake
MG Survive: the game that shows us that Konami can´t do shit without Kojima.
@@kingnro1 why would it cost that same amount? That makes no sense. If remakes were so expensive we wouldn't have so many.
MGS4 is one of the worst mgs games
TPP is just Peace Walker on console
But without good bosses and a linear story plot that is constantly evolving and interesting cutscenes and in which Big Boss actually talks? Let’s not forget Peace Walker is a PSP game by the way
@@imanoljesusdelpozo4907 Peace Walker had good bosses?
Envy987001 It had some good ones, even though a lot were kind of meh. Even when they are meh the game is really entertaining though
What the fuck were kojima and his guys doing all those 4 years?!
Did we really have to wait so long just to get 2 big maps?
+ReGo001
Great plan since Konami won't be doing that.
+ZockerKauz My thoughts exactly. I guess they were perfecting Fox Engine but fuck me, that still doesn't excuse the fact that game is only 75 percent complete... If not less, that is.
***** Yes different objectives, not steal everything OR Kill everything
Sorry for any misunderstandings here or my poor use of english
edit.: And what happened with the music?
It's MGSV critique day!
Agreed, MGSV being so damn bad raised my respect for MGS4.
Mgs 4 at least has the core game flavor of the others. The fan service is out of control, but it does the gameplay experience of the franchise as good as the rest.
What an invalid opinion. The gameplay loop was amazing and that's all that matters

@@postrock3374 cope? Why? Bcz mgsv is the most sold and played MG? Bcz it's the only one where the gameplay loop is actually fun?
They do call for air support if there on alert and you kill most of them sometimes a gunship comes and helps the enemys
If only it was like Ground Zeroes
Yeah, GZ was much better story wise than TPP.
Narbacular Blu nah fam lets go back to tf2 low key
Or the beginning of the game.
"At least it can't be as bad as phantom pain" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahaahaha!
Yup he was wrong about that one
Oh, trust me.
It will be even worse.
hahahahaha I thought that I hope he survives the trailer
"Survives the trailer."
Ohhhhhhhohoho.
He frikkin' won't. c:
soooo ironic
Video games in general are a waste of time... if we are being technical here...
Honestly I say metal gear solid 4 was way better from Beginning to end and everything was really epic
I genuinely adore this game with all my heart and I think these criticisms are still valid, good video.
"When Konami makes their next non-Kojima production Metal Gear, at least it won't be as bad as the Phantom Pain"
Konami: "hold my beer"
Metal Gear Survive
"If this was a review, it'd be glowing. But as a critique, its going to be pretty rough." This video to me, atleast is a hit piece of hatred. Its the same cycle with mgs2, people hated it. And now people are starting to love it. Games are always gonna be redeemed.
[Plus I like mgsv:tpp.]
Yeah it seems more like a fanboy upset he didn’t get what he wanted. The game has a lot of flaws but to act like it’s terrible when it has so much content, attention to detail and plays better than games today 8 years later is insane
