I honestly love the parallel of Ranton reviewing games, and him talking from experience but also him in the podcasts, honestly very funny but at the same time insightful. One of the most real people on youtube.
I feel like Ranton giving away Shaolin secrets is the possible beginning of a Kung Fu movie where Shaolin Monks are dispatched to silence him and he has to use his own Shaolin teachings to survive and fight against his own brothers.
I was heavily into Kung Fu films from 70's and 80's in my youth and all the way into my mid 20's then it seems it became a lost art, but I always loved the mysticism surrounding it in the films and Shaolin was usually involved in almost all of them. We had a program in the U.S.. can't remember what day or time but it was Kung Fu Theater and they would play 2 films. I always watched them.

Because it's not a documentary that's meant to give you facts. Just like you arnt going to come away from planet earth 2 knowing loads of facts. It's about showing you a different world and showing you that world in a cinematic way. Giving one of the monks a hand held camera and asking him to go about his day would give you more facts but would be awful viewing.

Wouldn't mind that.
Just found your channel and love this video. I had the pleasure to train at the Shaolin temple while in Zhengzhou as my dojo travelled through China. One of my favourite memories was being trained in one of the 'tourist' areas you mentioned that was not typically used...which meant when the daily groups of American paying tourists came visiting expecting to see expert Shaolin monks fighting all they saw was a bunch of white Canadians doing the absolute basics.
Hahaha sounds like they're masters in the art of trolling as well
One monk to other:
Showtime bois....just show them the basic stuff. Don't show them our air bending, flying and water powers
Krishna Meet and absolutely no lightning bending SUSAN
Hide the bison
And pleeease dont do a blood bending with the camera guy again, the last one have peed all the hall
Water bending is quite OP if youre creative. Just imagine, you can just froze all of the blood inside someone body and boooom. Instant win.

just watching this and realizing this guy actually is one of the modern real shaolin who came from china and decided to share his story casually to the world, telling how it really is from the real perspective is amazing. The world is so amazing
What is so amazing? he gets paid for sharing from the views
@@G0ddEityawesome Him DECIDING to share it is not amazing or special. U misunderstood. I don't mean it like "oh shit a shaolin monk broke silence and shared ancient secret!" I'm from China. The secret of shaolin is no mystery at all. It's basically a tour spot. What I find Special. Is that. We chinese know that there are only a Handful of shaolin monks. Like under 200..and based on the photo. This guy is one of the major ones. I just find it really rare and funny and such a rare chance that a guy/spot I used to go on tour as a kid. A guy I probs have seen. From a poor area of China. Is now someone with millions of subs in the US. That's what's amazing. Shows everything can happen in the world
@@mikeyelnats4798 : He is trying to say.. but he said it in bad English... He is trying to say that Shaolin Temple is a place of training army combatant people. And not a sports as it is portrayed in Western media. These fighters are taught how to fist fight using martial art techniques. And that they are expected to protect their own temples as well as their nearby villages. This is his point. That is what he is trying to say. Some people.. or the Western media, portray "temples" to mean "religion or philosophy"... but in this instance, it is a "army training ground" !!!! The super traditional kind !
Some chinese people knows this. Some don't. The ones that don't.. will spread the myths of it being a health thing and whatever.. but the ones that do.. would know what Shaolin is all about. And when they tour abroad... They are not merely "performing". They are being invited to show you what they can do. As in.. a real threat. Cos it is a fight. So.. which country sends their army people abroad to "show off" ???.... Who does this ?....
If they do show off, I presume that, the money that they make, is taken back to the temple.. and also to their nearby villages.. Presumably in a to feed the poor scenario...
@@MeiinUK yeah true lol

I love how you destroy my Hollywood perception of Shaolin monks.
maybe i shouldn't tell you too much but from one of my close friend who's borned in henan, he repetitively tells me of sighting monks who drinks in bars, drinks beer at street stalls and grab girlfriends for ONS all the time, Shi Yongxin an abbot of the monastery is basically acting like a money boss these days, owning a handful of business in town, makes money off a handful of film and video game company partnerships and having scandals of multiple divorced wives(not sure if true), a while ago he called out to help the divorced movie star Wang Baoqiang with money, because he used to be a disciple in the temple, these shit all goes against a traditional image of an monk, not to mention being an abbot. So sorry to ruin the image for you yet again, I know this might be the reality of the China today and such might be one of the only ways for shaolin to survive, but sometimes it's nothing but a niche business
