He proclaimed himself a grand master in Wing Chun. I went into a small room with and closed the door, then asked why he was wasting his time. He told me he was going to " show me up" to his friends. I hit from two inches away,,, at the sternum. His balance was WAY OFF. so, a very easy target. He landed at t he end of the room. I politely asked him if he wished to continue in a real fight. He left. T he point is, it happened ALL the time, in many schools. To this day, I will never understand such a warped sense of self. I have been beaten, all of us have. But you don't play football without a ball

I saw an Iaido master that in a performance accidentally cut his thumb off when he unsheathed his sword. He finished his performance and walked off without making any face at all. He didn't even acknowledge the thumb on the floor, just left it there when leaving. That is mastering pain and trying to save face on a high level.

Medical science has come pretty far in terms of reattaching digits and limbs, but a body part lost under those circumstances (and especially with treatment not being administered right away/the thumb not being put in something cold to preserve it) is pretty much done. The iaido practitioner probably realized that on some level. Better to go hard than throw all that effort away over a lost cause.
@@tek512 My interpretation is that accidentally cutting off his own thumb was a dishonor and humbling. It’s kinda weird, but it makes me think of that scene in Kill Bill with the Crazy 88. Anything chopped off is to be left behind. Both as a lesson and as a reminder. The honorable thing to do at that point is accept that loss, in a way, and continue forward through adaptation and, in a way, evolution.

The funy part is that this type of comments is so popular under this movie and also solid prove why people do not understand martial arts at all... "block the punch" have nothing to do with soft martial arts... and that is also why later in hard martial arts people are faking how they are able to brake something but in reality the stuff is specialy prepared to be easy to break. In real soft martial arts like for example aikido the real master gonna move his body from the line of attack and in the same time slighty redirect the punch from that line of attack... and in that moment people like are unable to see anything that looks like a "real block" so it must be a "fake martial art"... right? hehe

I did Tae Kwon Do (1st) than Wing Chun later. If I ever got attacked it wouldn't be Tae Kwon Do I'd use to defend myself. My Sifu taught us in a real situation it should be over in 3 seconds. No fancy moves. No exchanging blows. Every situation is different so I'm not going to give a move.

For me, my master taught me that chi is basically your bodily energy. Without chi, you can't move because you'll be too tired. Or something close to that.

I saw an Iaido master that in a performance accidentally cut his thumb off when he unsheathed his sword. He finished his performance and walked off without making any face at all. He didn't even acknowledge the thumb on the floor, just left it there when leaving. That is mastering pain and trying to save face on a high level.
I call that foolishness. What is more important: sword skill or physical integrity?

This was a premeditated plan and competition, or performance that took a lot of time, dedication and planning to even get there. @@poobface4218 Odds are the thumb wouldn't be salvageable anyway. Medical science has come pretty far in terms of reattaching digits and limbs, but a body part lost under those circumstances (and especially with treatment not being administered right away/the thumb not being put in something cold to preserve it) is pretty much done. The iaido practitioner probably realized that on some level. Better to go hard than throw all that effort away over a lost cause.
@@tek512 My interpretation is that accidentally cutting off his own thumb was a dishonor and humbling. It’s kinda weird, but it makes me think of that scene in Kill Bill with the Crazy 88. Anything chopped off is to be left behind. Both as a lesson and as a reminder. The honorable thing to do at that point is accept that loss, in a way, and continue forward through adaptation and, in a way, evolution.

The funy part is that this type of comments is so popular under this movie and also solid prove why people do not understand martial arts at all... "block the punch" have nothing to do with soft martial arts... and that is also why later in hard martial arts people are faking how they are able to brake something but in reality the stuff is specialy prepared to be easy to break.
In real soft martial arts like for example aikido the real master gonna move his body from the line of attack and in the same time slighty redirect the punch from that line of attack... and in that moment people like are unable to see anything that looks like a "real block" so it must be a "fake martial art"... right? hehe

I did Tae Kwon Do (1st) than Wing Chun later. If I ever got attacked it wouldn't be Tae Kwon Do I'd use to defend myself. My Sifu taught us in a real situation it should be over in 3 seconds. No fancy moves. No exchanging blows. Every situation is different so I'm not going to give a move.

@@clbdyc Tae kwon do is not much better than wing chun. Nothing really is better for self defence than boxing and judo. There is a reason why there are only certain techinques stayed in MMA - only most efficient from every other martial arts. Every asian martial art is useless by itself, although they often have more rigorous training.
