Yup, same here. For me 11/10 movie. Crying everytime I see it. The message just slaps the deepest depths of one's soul and the martial arts slaps your jaw out of the hinges so that You have to collect it from the ground because its just so spectacularly well done. Not mentioning the music which just doubles the impact of this whole movie (Countless hours listening to Wu by Andy Lau, so goooood). Love this movie, definitely all time fav! And I can't stress enough how appreciative I am that You did a review on it and shared Your experience with everyone. AWESOME!

I've watched this movie a few years ago and I'll admit it changed me as a person. The message of accepting your past and letting go is incredibly well portraited in Shaolin, the growth of the main character is beautifully executed. One of my favorite scenes is the one where the wife of the protagonist asks if he is to return home, but he states that Shaolin is his home now. Such passionate feelings for something that changed him and made him a better person is truly amazing. I make sure to watch it once every year, so as not to forget it's beautiful message.
Was really surprised to find out this movie is one of Rantoni's favorite! Thanks for the review pepperoni

My favorite part was when one of the brothers got stabbed with the sword he grabbed the sword pulled himself on it twisted sideways and started turning! Then bled out and started praying before he died! Self sacrifice to fight to save your loves one and do tge right thing!

I love that the villain of the piece weeps over his own actions.
It's also important to remember that the movie is a spiritual sequel to Jet Li's Shaolin Temple trilogy, which is a big part of why the real temple still exists at all. Between those films bringing interest to the temple within China, and the Kung Fu TV series in the US bringing international interest to the temple, it became a cultural phenomenon when previously it had been suppressed.

It was an amazing movie, and it is very classically Asian with the bitter sweet ending. Was/is veeeeeery common in Chinese, Japanese, etc etc. I feel like they have all been westernized in a way, with happy endings being more common (if not common). Even Japanese and Chinese anime have more and more happy endings, and waaaaay more objective endings with less "fill in hte blank to your imagination".
This is the first video of yours i have been suggested in years and damn did i forget how great/funny you are. I sub to so many yters to join the fight, but it's too many for them to suggest them all. haha.

That’s probably because they are different genres though. Happy endings are for less serious/more lighthearted things, or for gratification type genres.

Seriously, I love how it illustrates the process of a man going from a life of violence to one of compassion. It's the part of this film that has stuck with me the most and it was also my introduction to Andy Lau as an actor. On top of that it has Jackie Chan in it to boot! How can anyone not love that?

I enjoy your content: especially the unsugarcoated view of the temple(I‘s considering going there, too (and still do): thx to that I know I won‘t find there what I‘m looking for(except great Kung Fu ofc). Greetings from Berlin City 😊 PS.: Keep up the great work and don‘t loose ur sense of humor: I love it 😂👍🏻
