    Changed all 4 shocks/struts as well as new rotors & pads in the front and shoes in the rear in our 2011 Corolla, and it's been night and day with handling, ride comfort and braking. Really feels like a brand new car. We always keep it maintained with the engine and transmission and felt the rest of the car needed some love too.

      I was gonna bring that up too. I mainly judge a car's age by its headlights. I've tried a few restoration kits. Most do a good job making them look like new but only for a short period of time. The main difference is in the UV protection. 3M only last 6 months and the lights look all yellow again. Sylvania, by far the best. Been a year and still look like the day I cleaned them. And I can just keep layering up with another UV protection coat when it starts to worn out.

    Cool departure from the new car reviews. Still, makes complete sense for your channel though. A family perspective on up-keeping cars, especially with how expensive buying a car is at present, is totally on brand. Great job and good luck.

    So I saw where there are just 119,000 miles on that CRV. My 2006 Accord had that same 2.4L engine and I got 360,000 HARD miles on that engine. Provided the Muzio’s maintain the rest of that CRV there is a good chance their daughter will be driving the CRV as her first car. 🤣

  • @MichaelSmith-kr9qw
    @MichaelSmith-kr9qw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Glad to see yall still have the CRV. Minor maintenance is the key to any car surviving ! Unlike a lot of people who tend to drive their vehicles into the proverbial dirt and then blame the manufacturer for it breaking down. I saw on here you are thinking of selling it ? I wouldn't sell it I would keep it and drive it until the doors fall off or you fall through the floorplan ! My Former Brother-in Law had a 96 Civic that was well over 500,000 miles and was in excellent mechanical condition until a person rear-ended him and totalled it. I owned a 04 Civic and commuted from the Central Valley in to the Bay Area everyday and put close to 300,000 miles before a drunk driver totalled my Civic and I left California shortly afterwards for the greener pastures of Texas !

    I had a 2006 Nissan Murano and I bought it two years ago used at 83,000 Miles. I didn’t know the rear suspension and left driver control arm were broken I basically bought a lemon but drove it for a year and I honestly felt like I had bouncing too with the car it was scary. Now I have 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Sel it’s grey I love it and I feel safe.

  • @mov744

    I also have an ‘08 CR-V EX-L and almost immediately after passing 200,000kms in 2020 I also had my rear struts replaced. Though I was only aware of it after my mechanic pointed its out after I noticed my tires were wearing out unevenly.
    Since then, my CR-V recently passed 250,000kms and I’ve put in nearly $3000 in repairs (incl the struts). I also had a EGR valve stuck open which also caused a hose to rip, I’ve had all four brake callipers replaced, and have also replaced the radiator. Outside of those, the car still drives like a dream after 14 years and a quarter of a million kms on it. Like Micah said, yeah it’s a lot in repairs but paying the $3000 now for those parts to last another 12-14 years (or the remaining life of the car at this point) is total worth it. And it’s enormously cheapest than buying a new or gently used car in today’s market.

    I had a 07 Taurus and that thing was mint mechanicaly. Only issue was the floor board rusted away. I could not drive the car anymore. It so sucks cause I was going to drive for as long as I could. And from what I understood it couldn't be fixed. I guess cause it was so bad. Our last snow fall I was driving into work and went over a snowball the snow plow made. ANd that is what finished it off. Pushed the floor up and then my driver seat started rocking back forth. It was kind of scary. HA HA HA. Ao my point is I was getting the money together to replace the shocks and such. Cause like I said the car was in great shape motor wise and trans. Car only had 151 thousand miles GRRRRRRRR So I had no choice to purchase a newer vehicle. So I bought a 2014 Chevy cruze with 73 thousand miles. HAd it looked at and my mechanic said it was in good sound mind. It is the 2LT version.

  • @hukmai
    @hukmai 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What triggers me in that as a long time as a honda owner ( 2017 Ridgeline AWD 156K miles) yes the shock/struts do last a long time but when i replaced them at 135k miles
    for the popular of the Honda Pilot which it share a lot of parts with there is no aftermarket ( fine whatever) BUT honda literally sells the parts individually so there is another labor cost in assembling the damn struts
    TLDR; Can manufactures just make it easy for consumers?? rant over

      @MicahMuzio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please elaborate.

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MicahMuzio It seems you're sitting a bit far back, angle of the seat back a bit excessive. I've been taught at several trainings that a good way to measure distance to the wheel: grabbing the left 10 o'clock position of the steering wheel with your right hand and the right two o'clock position with your left hand (both hands simultaneously), and when your Scapula/shoulder blades remain in contact with the seat back you're close enough.
      I can't see your distance to the pedals from the video but the way I was taught to determine that is by depressing the clutch fully and/or pushing the brake pedal down fully and as hard as you can. During that your backside, basically the lumbar should not lose contact with the seat back at all.
      I get that especially in the USA with massively long distances people take more relaxed driving positions, but my experience suggests that long term having a 'by-the-book' position isn't any more tiring. And I do admit that while on very long highway drives I sometimes set the seat one click back and one click more lean...but I set it back when off the long highway jaunts. And ever since I discovered massage seats that's been my prime source of comfort!
      Just want you to be safe, able to fully control your vehicle if for example a Nissan Versa suddenly crosses into your lane!

    • @pistonburner6448
      @pistonburner6448 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MicahMuzio Oh, one especially effective tip to reduce fatigue, increase comfort and maintain back health comes from BMW. They had doctors and researchers come up with the system of having two air bags in the seat under your bum which they would fill one after the other so that it very slightly raises one buttocks after the other. It isn't really a massage movement, it's not meant to be very noticeable even. That small motion makes your spine move ever so slightly, and the motion goes very far up your back. That small movement aids blood flow throughout your back in a very broad area. They don't have that feature anymore, now that they have the full massage seats. But I've found it to work when I've done that myself when driving a car long distances with no massage seats: I myself just slightly lift up one side for a second or two, then switch (not necessarily off the seat because of the soft cushion, it's enough to get that small movement upwards). I do that for a few minutes and then repeat periodically. I think it really works.
      Awesome videos, especially this one is of such an immensely important topic! All the best!

    • @MicahMuzio
      @MicahMuzio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pistonburner6448 I always appreciate thoughtful input. I’ve found that my lower back hurts when driving with a more vertical seat-back angle. In the case of our CR-V, the steering wheel’s limited telescoping range results in a longer reach than I’d prefer.
      But rest assured, whenever I’ve raced or done high-performance driving on-camera, I’ve always set my driving position for maximum control. :)

      @pistonburner6448 2 ปีที่แล้ว
