I need to play this game at some point. The notion of a competing robotics company taking pride in androids that are less human looking is interesting. I always felt like Weyland created androids with marketability as a secondary consideration, he was obsessed with creating artificial humans, he wanted to be the first to cross the uncanny valley. I could imagine a world where both kinds of androids are useful, the Seegson models are perfectly suited to manual labour, where as the Weyland androids would be useful in situations where human interaction is a key part of their job. Caring for the elderly, disabled, or children for example, they are perfectly suited to companionship. As an autistic person myself, a Walter would afford me a kind of independence I don't otherwise have, even the best human caretakers are only human, as such they aren't entirely selfless, they get tired, they have bad days. With a Walter I wouldn't have to be subjected to such indignities. Also it would be nice just to have a companion that thinks and talks the way I do, neurotypicals can be confusing.
I thought the joke was that since Seegson couldn't compete with WY they simply marketed their inferior androids as such. One wonders how many people really were paranoid of the synthetics given that nobody you run into in the game and Amanda herself don't seem to even care when it's mentioned that Samuels is one (which was a weirdly nonchalant reveal to the player, it felt like there was a cutscene missing somewhere.)

Hmm, I think she called him "father" because a moment before she said "a king has his reign, and then he dies", and knowing what we know about absolute monarchy, she was suggesting that she would take over as head of the Company after Weyland's death, as a princess suddenly becoming a queen. Whether or not she was biologically related to Weyland was not the issue in question.

A Seegson Joe for chores and a Weiland android for pleasure :) (there were "Dianas", too, not just "Davids", right?). And I'm holding the kill switch for both, just in case.
George Scarlateanu wait a sec,you know what,I don't even wanna know what your definition of pleasure is But it's fucking a robot, then again, several actual sex robots have been made in Japan, but they barely have personality.
I have to wonder if the Weyland androids have a standarised appearance and if so, why? As far as I can tell, they all look like Fassbender for decades until they have more randomised appearances in Alien and Aliens. That said Ash was probably custom made and maybe all Bishops look the same, we just don't know. I think this is the rare example of a world with male romantic robots but not female ones, at least according to the Covenant marketing. I think in reality we will probably be able to customise our androids as we see fit.
Weyu's synthetics r not anatomically correct so they would have limited capabilities for providing pleasure. As for their look. I bet the Walter model appearance was used to save money and reputation. They already had an appearance and needed to recall the David model so they used what they already had at the same time replacing the faulty model with a dependable one that looked the same so it would replace the memory of the David model in the public's eye.
I think the only real mistake SEEGSON made was giving the Working Joe a human head. The Uncanny Valley effect has long ago been understood. An inhuman head would be both easier to maintain and produce less friction in human interaction. SEEGSON could have even taken this further, with optional modules to install on its head (such as a display-panel or an external antennae).
I'd like one with Lance's NYC attitude he displayed during the filming of ALIENS when the British crew member kept getting too friendly handsy with him and he was going to tell the guy, "...you keep touching me like that I'm gonna break your arm."
Personally I wouldn't mind having a realistic Weyland-Yutani android. I don't see it as much different as having a butler or personal assistant for example. However, I would try to be considerate, just out of politeness and habit. A lot of things like "is that okay" "how are you" "please" "thank you" etc. even if it didn't matter.
I love Your videos buddy , your knowledge and your interest at giving us something to chew over and digest. You keep me gripped with excitement when You put out videos. Thank You
MAn I Love your videos! There are always so mysterious, with so many details on each stroy and with that music in the background! I'm glad that you've decided to finish this film despite the Hybrid Network issue... KEEP UP MAN!!!
I would buy a Wayland-Utani model android as a companion. Besides a disability making life difficult, it also means no children. So a companion android that can respond to human emotion would be a wonderful thing. I'm also a software developer, so I figure my future equivalent would be able to scan an android for any malicious programming before buying. It's also a sentient creature, so I would do what I can to find a meaningful existence for it. The only reason David turned out the way he did is that everyone treated him poorly.
4:14 depends on the job. For elder care a Working Joe could be very useful. It wouldn't get tired of a person with Alzheimer's telling them the same story over and over again or asking the same questions over and over again. The Working Joe could clean up after the elderly person and remind them to take their medicine, tell them to not call relatives at 2 or 3 in the morning, etc.
I would have choose a Working Joe, they have a certain charm after all! Thank you for your videos, you helped me to understand the Alien franchise. I've watched it as a kid, but since I've played Alien isolation (great great game, thank you Creative Assembly) I've been eager to watch the first Alien because the game has the essence of the first movie. Then I've watched the whole franchise but as the different movies have been made throught nearly 30 years with differents directors, it is hard to fully understand what happened between. Thanks to your channel, we can really appreciate the Alien universe. Thank you
To the creator, pls make a video about the characters in Alien isolation like Ransome, and the reasons for what they did their missions aboard Sevastopol station. Thank you!
Alien Theory you are probably my favorite TH-camr in the entire land of TH-cam. I know you're thankful that you're a really solid dude. I really think you should get together with Ridley Scott so he can consult with you before filming his next movie LOL

Anyway again your work is really truly fantastic and you should go to bed each and every night knowing not thinking but really knowing that you were making a tremendous impact on my life and I'm sure the life of many others so you should feel good about that
Great vid! I would have to go with a Weyland-Yutani Bishop model. The David series and Ash - Hyperdyne 128-U2s(?) are too homicidal for me. Clearly they either go insane or are able to be corrupted. Also the Working Joes are corruptible but also their appearance is far too creepy. With the rubber skin and eerie eyes.
First ever comment here, love your work and explanations. Would love to see one on ripleys clone powers from Alien resurrection. Great video, and I'd pick neither android. Time has shown us that the good ones are the exception, bishop we miss you lol
I've read somewhere that Working Joes being easily distinguished from humans is just an excuse of Seegson for not being able to produce top of the line androids like WY to compete with them.
The two droids brands are probably incompatible with each other. I'm thinking something like I-Phone and Android applications. Weyland-Yutani like to keep all their programing , tech and manufacturing to themselves. The Joe would be the cheapest and easiest to jailbreak ,(If that is the right term), and add whatever programs you like. Seegson are happy to share their tech and knowledge. Someone would be able to come up with these programs you want.
I'd be tempted to buy one of each model. A Weyland-Yutani type with an attractive female appearance to help with the housework and a Working Joe to actually do the housework I pretend the first one is for.
i would buy a wayland yutani android because of the more advanced software making it harder to corrupt and I've noticed that wayland yutani models are more interactive so i would feel more comfortable talking to one instead of a seegson model
If it were for banal repetitive tasks that would require the dexterity of a human form I'd get one as supplemental help sure. The Samuel Delany novel "Nova" takes place in a future where humans can interface with their technology via plugs in their wrists, base of the neck and lower spine. The bodies nervous system run the machines. Delany explains the reason and necessity for the invention of this ability in his universe is because over time humans wanted to feel a reconnect with "real" work that simulated the experience their ancestors got from doing hands on manual labor and that satisfactory feeling that they actually accomplished "a days work". Its a different take on the idea that in the future humans will become fully reliant on androids and how that may turn out much differently than conventional sci fi depicts. So I'd probably get an android but still do some manual jobs myself just to keep sharp and not too complacent just because of the convenience a synthetic would offer.
I don't think I could own a robot that looked like a human. It would feel too much like owning a person, even if they didn't possess sentience. The closer robots come to sentience, the harder a time I personally have even using them as tools. Guess I'll never try a sex-bot. I've watched way too much Star Trek for my own good. Damn you Roddenberry!
I too always found the idea of owning droids or androids to be too similar to slavery. We are already having second thoughts about owning and raising animals as pets, food and livestock. Now imagine something that resembles humans in almost every conceivable way being your servant. True, many may not have a problem with it just like we do not give a second thought to using a computer or a toaster but the fact the machine looks and acts human, even a "Working Joe", would strike me personally as disturbing.
Something that Alien Isolation made me wonder is that since Sevastopol Station resembles the refinery from the first Alien movie, was the Refinery populated like the Station was, so did Ripley kill god knows how many people when she destroyed the Nostromo?
I think Alien: Isolation was a great game. It brought back the Alien franchise to games, the story is amazing and the Alien is so cool. I really hope they continue the story. Also, your channel is amazing, congratulations for the good work :)
Provided you could afford to pick between a WY model or a Working Joe. The way Seegson attempted to market the Working Joes (as a more affordable alternative) implies that WY androids are expensive. Which would make sense, give that they are cutting edge. So i would imagine that there would be colonies and stations out there that may need androids, but simply can not afford WY models. For them, the Working Joe may be a sufficient and affordable solution.
It seems to me that Working Joe has a place to be and quite organically blended into the atmosphere of the game. The fact that Weiland Ytani has a competitor, though weak, only adds a sense of reality and a weaker competitor will naturally have militarily weak technical capabilities. And the fact that Working Joe someone is scary, so it's fine. Genre of game survival horror is not it? The developers during the presentation answered questions from the audience, one of them sounded like this: "Do not you think that the game turned out too terrible?" which was followed by the answer "This is not our problem ..."
You can infer from the narrative that the Working Joes were the result of a last-ditch effort to recast negatives as positives, and that their development came at a time when Seegson Synthetics, the company that made them, was risk averse and strapped for cash. From collecting journal entries in the various terminals scattered throughout Sevastapol, you can tell that Seegson as a supplier of interstellar drives, space ports and androids was past its prime and had lost ground to Weyland Yutani both in sales and R&D. They not only suffered a lack of funding but imagination, and the Working Joes, which had been their best attempt at android assistants were surpassed by the lifelike and creatively gifted Weyland and Hyperdyne synthetics, Seegson must have felt like it was holding a Zune next to an iPod. So in a move, that's counter to everything marketing and design has ever taught, they tried to push these good-enough androids the way GoPhone tried to sell their surpluss-stock clamshell phones in the smart phone era. It was pretty shabby and the results reflected it. So just like there's a landfill full of Atari ET cartridges, the rejects of the android market wander about Sevastopol, unwanted by anyone and only a source of desperation for those left in the crumbling tower.

An inhuman head would be both easier to maintain and produce less friction in human interaction. SEEGSON could have even taken this further, with optional modules to install on its head (such as a display-panel or an external antennae).
"I wanted Amanda Ripley to have closure."
I hardly ever comment on here anymore, but thank you for your videos bro. I truly do appreciate them and all your work you put into them.
If given the choice, I'd want either the David model or Bishop model of WY synthetics.
I would want a Working Joe
I can wait. I can wait for you for a very long time.
Alien Theory: id want a Bishop Model. I could listen to lance's voice all day!
I agree!
I'd like one with Lance's NYC attitude he displayed during the filming of ALIENS when the British crew member kept getting too friendly handsy with him and he was going to tell the guy, "...you keep touching me like that I'm gonna break your arm."
A South Korean Robot if Rocket-Man blows us all up u wont ever get to experience that:/
I think everyone would want a Bishop.
New to the channel. Have to say these are the best videos I never knew I wanted.
Thank you so much! Glad you're enjoying! :D
I enjoy all the the videos you’ve done informative and immersive.
Keep it up dude. Love this channel!
Best Alien lore videos out there 👌🔌
If I saw working joe in dark alley .... I will run like hell!
Yeah if he has red eyes. Good day.
Amazing video as always I was really waiting for this one!!!
Great voice, Great Flow, Great angles, Open the conversation.
Thank you
I think the best part about alien theory is that he doesn't even really bring up TH-cam drama
I really hope they make a sequel somehow
Same
Same
To the creator, pls make a video about the characters in Alien isolation like Ransome, and the reasons for what they did their missions aboard Sevastopol station. Thank you!
Great vid. Glad you did put this out in the end.
Alien Theory you are probably my favorite TH-camr in the entire land of TH-cam. I know you're thankful that you're a really solid dude. I really think you should get together with Ridley Scott so he can consult with you before filming his next movie LOL
Seriously... you kind of remind me of myself LOL. Anyway again your work is really truly fantastic and you should go to bed each and every night knowing not thinking but really knowing that you were making a tremendous impact on my life and I'm sure the life of many others so you should feel good about that
You’re one of my favorite TH-camrs love your videos
Thank you for another great video and the effort you put into all of them!!!
Love your channel and the videos are amazing. Keep up the good work 👍
First ever comment here, love your work and explanations. Would love to see one on ripleys clone powers from Alien resurrection. Great video, and I'd pick neither android. Time has shown us that the good ones are the exception, bishop we miss you lol
With Seegson, there’s always someone behind you...
Awesome stuff Keep doing what your doing fella. Got platinum trophy for isolation one of my most satisfying
I would buy a Walter model for sure!
I've read somewhere that Working Joes being easily distinguished from humans is just an excuse of Seegson for not being able to produce top of the line androids like WY to compete with them.
I want to buy Samuels XD
I thought he was a nice guy for a synthetic
We (the Fans) want more daily "Content"........ Cause you are the best ;)
daily content is what I seek as well ,,, et carter
Neither don't trust synths from either company
i'd end up trying to do to a Working Joe what Lister tried to do to Kryten.
If I were to buy any droid, I would initially buy a Joe, but then I would download some Weyland-Yutani software and customize the Joe to fit my needs.
+Autumn Anne maybe I can repair a Joe using parts of a Wey-Yu model. Say, does that qualify as reverse-engineering?
2:59 I think this archive log (#124) can be read on the computer found in the very end of Mission 13.
I would want a walter model synthetic for the reason that I would be able to have assistance with tasks, yet also someone to talk to.
Love the video. Keep up the good work !!!
i love the Alien and predator films . this channel is one of if not the best.. you and Alien hybrid are most good
Great videos man, keep it up.
Your effort with your videos is always a pleasure you dont need to do an assembly line
I'd be tempted to buy one of each model. A Weyland-Yutani type with an attractive female appearance to help with the housework and a Working Joe to actually do the housework I pretend the first one is for.
I would by any means choose a Bishop 341-B Model :D
Seegson. Tomorrow. Together
i would buy a wayland yutani android because of the more advanced software making it harder to corrupt and I've noticed that wayland yutani models are more interactive so i would feel more comfortable talking to one instead of a seegson model
I think the Working Joes are way creepier than the more lifelike synthetics. Working Joes are creepier than Xenomorphs.
Indeed, the ultimate form of Automatonophobia in living, mechanical form.
We don't need robot-like, animatronic-mannequins in our lives. No.
they hit right in the uncanny valley
FacelessDeity+ But isn't that the same thing? You own him and have him do things for you. He's a tool and you use him.
Couple bitches posting above.
I wonder if you could possibly capture and reprogram a working joe to keep it from getting the twisted messages from the Apllo core
1:44 “safety checks”
Something that Alien Isolation made me wonder is that since Sevastopol Station resembles the refinery from the first Alien movie, was the Refinery populated like the Station was, so did Ripley kill god knows how many people when she destroyed the Nostromo?
The working joe is our future for exactly like you said.... i hope people would know they were creating an enemy and not a helper
I think Alien: Isolation was a great game. It brought back the Alien franchise to games, the story is amazing and the Alien is so cool. I really hope they continue the story. Also, your channel is amazing, congratulations for the good work :)
Alien Isolation, best game of the entire generation.
Audfile That is 💯 True Facts!!
Shoutout to the Alien Isolation soundtrack notably "Sevastopol Mayhem" and "Escape from Habitation Decks"
You always know a Working Joe...
Someone knew...!
Very interesting episode Alien Theory !
Which one to choose? Tough one as they both creep me out.
You always know a working Joe🤖
