..a question that bugs me is why does the Nostromo have guns as if it were a combat vessel or a military ship? When it was supposedly a civilian commercial ship? And the setting's milieu ( at least in the original first movie or even from the 2nd one ), the movie's story setting seems to not have included warlike established alien civilisations like Star Trek or a galaxy in conflict like Star Wars, nor was there even a hint of the presence of such dangers as 'space pirates'.. It seemed to me that there's an atmosphere or an implied understanding from the first 2 movies that the 'space setting' of the Nostromo was similar to the seafaring setting of the late 70' and 80's of the 20th century when one Superpower had effective control of the world's seas. The xenomorph was apparently just the 'first contact' as of the 1st, 1979 movie and 2nd, 1986 movie @@AlienTheory

When I got the Alien Isolation game, my Alien fanboy wet dreams were answered! Just to (virtually) walk through those iconic corridors! Especially on the Crew Expendable and Last Survivor DLC, which took place in the Nostromo. I've always loved the ungainly design of Nostromo, and those interiors are such an iconic feature. I only have to see a dunking bird toy to envision them. In SciFi, there are so many nods to the interior of Nostromo, in the 1984 series of V, it looks like they actually used ladders, doorways and walls from the Alien set, to create the bowels of the visitor mothership! I actually think they did

I loved those DLC missions on the Nostromo more than the whole game with it's 19 missions on Sevastopol station. They were perfect, with last survivor being my favourite as it perfectly captured one of the best parts of the film where you are forced to run for your life towards the lifeboat, knowing the ship will self destruct while not knowing where the alien is lurking and you don't have the time to be careful or quiet. On top of that you have the exhaust fumes, strobes and cacophony of sirens just giving you this perfect tense headache of fear and anxiety while feeling utterly lost in the bowels of the Nostromo! God damn how I wish they had made the game more like that as a whole. Overall that and Dead Space are my favorite games and I'm crying for a sequel for isolation.

Such an awesome experience, I remember the day I bought it from GAME (during a lunch break from work on day of release.....my god the rest of that day dragged!), and rushing home (fast, but safe as possible), and playing it.....oh my god, I was transfixed! Thank christ the following week was a holiday! I played it nearly every night. The atmosphere, hissing gas jets, lights, and knowing just somewhere in some dark area, that xeno was waiting......
The only thing that was a letdown.....no Jones! I'd have LOVED to have seen a DLC, called something like "Jonesy's Tail" which had you playing as the famous ginger cat, hiding and running, jumping up high, sneaking, finding cubby holes, but obviously no weapons, but you could do distractions like knocking things over, accidentally pushing buttons for alarms, that sort of thing to keep you one step ahead of androids and the alien. The fun you could have with sneaking etc would have been awesome, with a sort of "cat sense" game mechanic, tricky mini games, that would have been brilliant

This is the video I've been waiting for: specifically the c- level or the garage level. In the movie, the landing struts suspended overhead when at rest, shows along the walls the counterbalances assembly allowing the viewer to at least speculate on the immense hydrolics power contained where controlling the huge struts are nessessary. And overall, it's a great video. And yeah, the Nostromo is my favourite ship.

I think because Alien had this sorta 'magic' too it. A concept that was unheard of at the time. The only other Sci-Fi alien/horror movie that I enjoy and sorta comes close is John Carpenter's The Thing. Whenever we see other sci-fi aliens acting like a hive, or bursting out of people, we always think of the original.

Thats a great idea! Cover films like Life, but also schlock like Inseminoid, Galaxy Of Terror, even the Italian knockoff Alien 2! A couple of oblique observations I’ve made over time- one is that the names Nostromo and Sulaco come from the Joseph Conrad novel “Nostromo”, and the “Narcissus” was from another Conrad novel. The other is that, interestingly, the one special gas on the Narcissus that Ripley discharged and finally distressed the Alien was methyl bromide (CH3Br), a highly toxic compound used for fumigation of shipping containers at ports of entry. Btw, my profession as an entomologist led me down the track of the latter. It would be interesting to speculate what might’ve transpired in Aliens if Ripley had shared that bit of information with the colonial marines once an infestation had been determined-

A nice video. I watched this movie as a kid and always thought the Nostromo was the whole ship, rather than the towing vehicle. I'm actually more interested in the much larger refinery, than the crew ship. I'm trying to find out what the dimensions of the refinery are. I watched those really well done videos that show ship sizes in comparison to New York. One of them did have the towing vehicle, but not the Refinery. I made a very rough estimation that the refinery was probably about 5kms across and about 2kms tall. It could be a bit less than that, but the diameter of the largest Oil refinery on Earth is about 6 kms for a comparison. Thanks again for a great video.

Nice work. What I'd like to hear is that you have a similar video planned for the Sulaco, but I'll watch whatever you put next.

NOSTROMO is my #1 favorite, #2 is prometheus, all the rest that follows, not chronologically, are good in their own rights, but, the Nostromo stands out as the most elegant via its A deck.

When I think of spacecraft in the series, nostromo comes third after the sulaco and the derelict. They're all such different designs with different purposes.

I wanted to see the Sulacco in action. They showed all those guns when the camera panned by in Aliens but they were ever used. We only know what they do due to the Colonial Marines technical manual.

Are you an Alien ? From which planet do you come from! What a huge work you did to find information to draft your speech . A touch of imagination too maybe. You outdone yourself. I absolutely loved this video. You really are a master in your field. It must be a full Time job is''it ? When do you find the time, how did you come up with this channel. Amazing. My apologies for my English, I am French and even though I don't understand everything I can feel the atmosphere and I share your passion

While I like the external look of the Conestoga-class Sulaco more than the Nostromo, the Nostromo has the advantage of being the main setting for the first film while the Sulaco is seen only for a few short scenes in the second. This gives us a much better idea of what the interior of the Nostromo is like so I think it is more memorable. Looking at the other ships of the franchise we get to see in great detail, the Auriga seems like a set of video game levels and the Prometheus is too polished. I'm indifferent to the Covenant's design.

I most like the ships Nostromo, Sulaco and Sevastopol stanion. By the way, why the station was called that way, you can release another video about Alien isolation, or about that station, more of its history and details.
    Thank you.

Could you perhaps cover The Betty (A:Res) in future vid since Ripley comments that the class of ship is "Older than I am.
Also, just how commonplace is space travel in the Alien Universe? There are obviously military and commercial applications, and thanks to Weyland-Yutani this has an overlap, but can anyone just buy their own ship to use as they please?

Prometheus was my favorite ship of the franchise. I am curious if you’ve enough material to make a video about the similarities and differences between the Sulaco and the Pillar of Autumn from Halo. I can see how the latter franchise drew a good bit of inspiration from the Alien series.
