I can’t escape you
No matter how far I run (can’t escape you)
I can’t erase you
From who I’ve become (you’re a part of me)
Memories coursing through my veins
Like the scars in yours, my roots remain
I was raised in hell
I made it out by myself
I was raised to bleed
Bad blood runs wild and free
I thought you were dreaming
Eyes rolled to the stars
Sinking slowly in muddy water
Set beneath the tar
You left me in dark
We grew up scared
Bruised and battered
Youth torn and tattered
As long as you were sky high
Nothing fucking mattered
Hotel homes in the cross
Under the bridge and lost
With your heads in the clouds above
You call this love
I was raised in hell
I made it out by myself
I was raised to bleed
Bad blood runs wild and free
I thought you were dreaming (hell raised me)
I thought you were dreaming
Bad blood runs wild and free

Sounds like Marcus went through some shit growing up. Glad you made it bud.
exotitan he did his parents were both heroin addicts
@@RockerFoo92 damn man that's a tough life. He persevered for sure
Don't we all...
@@RockerFoo92 wow.. well you think he would have better inspiration or make better music.
@@timmybobby4052 lmao your speaking one sided. Artists have NO inspiration to make music. A lot of artists dont even have context to their songs. But this one is a testament of what he went through and how his FANS can go to this song and gives them hope
As someone who got into heavy music during the peak of the Nu-Metal craze, I've always wished it would make a comeback. This is exactly what I was hoping it would sound like.
Nu Metal is honestly my favorite genre I was a wee baby when it was popular I was born in 99 so this resurgence of Nu Metal is amazing
Have you heard My Ticket Home
Fire From The Gods
Gemini Syndrome
DED (def old school vibes with their debut)
Cane Hill
This is the "evolution" Nu Metal needed
Same here. I think Nu metal has been creeping back ever since Suicide Silence's Black Crown (even has J Davies from Korn in there). It's good to hear people mix the groove with that heavy loose bounce that Nu Metal has. Now that it's got this status. it will never go away
isn't it metalcore?
@@biznes666 yeah but they have a lot of Nu metal influences aswell. They seem to have a decent piece of djent, metalcore and nu metal to be fair
Tons of bands had this sound. Doesn't take away how bad ass this is.
This triggered my nostalgia for Nu Metal for the right reasons
For real! This is amazing!
Great band saw them live!
it's got some real Stabbing Westward undertones to it and I mean that as a compliment - those guys were a bit too ahead of their time, Darkest Days is a killer album. Of course I am writing this from the future where Obsidian happened and NOBODY is making music like that! (again, compliment)
Damn dudes I don't have telephone cables for strings. Straight up though, this track was magical
Nik, please, you should do the cover
Nik you really should buy 8 strings for thos album...
Just saying.
Nik Nocturnal, drop tune low enough to fire an arrow into the crowd.
They play on Baritone 7 strings IIRC
@@j-meister8710 yepp
Cool song, I like that Marcus focused on the lower range of his singing here.
Yes! I agree.
It’s good to hear something different from him.
I cried.. thank you I feel understood
The atmosphere is strong in this one.
Alright, Yoda.
As someone who has suffered mental and physical abuse from his mother since the age of 5, this album made me feel like I had been seen. Also instrumentally this album is everything I could ask for
🙏
You are not alone brother
This is so sick. Love the chorus.
Love this. This is so good.
Heyyy its rock feed, didnt expect to see you here whats up?
It fucking is though
Follow process melt-seizko
Rock feed is a pathetic human trying to cash in on other peoples success. Ignore his garbage channel.
@@JohnDoe-mb3xy you alright buddy?
After listening to Alien on repeat for a week, I think I figured out why it’s called Alien - It’s a term for feeling disconnected and alone around everyone else, feeling like a stranger.
Just like in this vid, the kid feels like a stranger to his parents and when he grows up the disconnection strengthens even further.
Same with Talking Heads for example, in which the protagonist feels disconnected from his own mind due to the "talking heads".
This basically occurs in every song, so it should be the overall theme for the album, which would be a really cool concept.
Great reference dude on talking heads and most definitely applicable. I like how your music taste is nicely asserted here. Would love to knock heads around a good system and good music with you!
Yep feeling alienated
It's a mechanism of self-preservation, primal survival mode. Disconnected.
God, this music is so important.
Was the trigger warning at the beginning about Marcus having no hair now? 10/10 song
yea, so the old, decrepit creeps can feel 'relevant'.....pathetic...
@@SekhmetSecretWeapon I'm sorry, what exactly are you on about?
@@SekhmetSecretWeapon
I couldn't imagine a more fitting time with the world hinging on world war 3 over our actual bloodlines.
SekhmetSecretWeapon you are a shut up and you are a smells bad.
he had a hair cut. so i don't think he had cancer
Diggin' the fact that modern metal bands are jumping on the synth train
Lawrence John modern metal bands have been on the synth train for years
Check out Veil of Mayas new track!
Same! But it makes metal kinda lose itself. If they can do it well, then yeah they can absolutely go for it! But I dont want pure synth metal lol.
This is not metal more like alternative rock
@@arindammitra5651 I'd say this is maybe industrial metal or nu-metalcore or something like that. I don't quite get the comparison to alt rock because I usually think of completely different music before I think of stuff like this when it comes to alt rock but it's fine if you see it as that
This song speaks for me in a way that a lot of music doesn't. Thank you Northlane
Same here.....just speaks to my fucking core bro.
It's good to hear Northlane getting the full mixes they deserve.
That's like half the battle with some of these bands
What do you mean? By full you mean professional mixed songs?
@@shivr3270 Node and Mesmer were kinda lacking in the low end.
@@Klevaer Are you a professional mixing engineer to say that? Theres a lot of creativity and preference in mixing, not all artist have same lows, highs etc. I dont think theres a staple in that.
@@shivr3270 I wouldn't say I'm a professional but I do have 200+ songs I've mixed under my belt. I'm not trying to say the songs are bad or anything. By no means, those two albums are major influences to my songwriting. I'm just giving my opinion. I think they'd sound better with a little more low end. 🤷
Who's here after kmac announced he's making a vocal cover of the song?
Cheers. ‘Twas fuckign brilliant
@@allmensland2106 It was next level! 🤯
Damn was it spot on
saripalli sreekar aye, Kmac is a genius
hell yeah!
When Northlane meets Celldweller
Yuri Fetisov I agree it also reminded me a tad bit of Alice In Chains when Layne was their vocalist and it also reminded me of mudvayne and blue stahli
Ikr, reminded me a lot of celdweller/blue stahli
Fuck I completely forgot Celldweller existed
BLUE STAHLI!!!
Holy shit youre 100% right
Bloodline is my favourite song on this album, but it's always so hard to listen to and not feel like crying. Powerful lyrics, powerful performance, thanks for your music 💙
Marcus proved he suits perfectly Northlane i'm so proud of him !
FIVE what... only now? Not, like, the past few years?
"I was raised in hell, I made it out by myself" I have never related to lyrics more than this. I made it out but it never leaves you, not completely.
What do you mean can you explain why you relate
Me to. It all works out though. For some, it can be empowering. Or you can have an interesting vision all your life.
@@treweis1141 A number of people grow up in shitty homes with sometimes abusive parents, and those that made it out without any help can relate. Some just don't have anyone to go to, so they just have to persevere and make it out by themselves, which is hard to do being that many of those situations lead to suicide
You all dont look like some poor starving to death African kids raised in some warzone. So shut the fuck up about your "hell" that you went through, you self-important fucks. Everybody has some shit he went through in life one way or another, but calling it "hell" is some teen emo garbage. grow up, you idiots.
@@DiamondDead First: Stop pretending that you actually care about children in Africa. If you did, you wouldn't be so bitter. You would be grateful for what you have and would be showing empathy towards those that aren't feeling great. You've also been to the army, so you've probably seen pain when deployed abroad. Second: It's not a competition to see who is going through the shittiest scenario. Third: Saying that one cannot be in pain because someone else is enduring even more pain is like saying that one should stop being so happy because someone else is even happier. You are like: "check your privilege". So I am taking this opportunity to say to you: Fuck you, and check your privilege first.
Holy shit that was dark. Amazing song, can’t wait for the rest of Alien. As the Aussies say, I’m KEEN.
Terry likes northlane
Yeah bloody oath Tezza mate
"makin my way downtown, shootin' smack, car's gon' crash and i'm homebound"
Crewsin' lad.
Crackdown 3 was underwhelming
thank you for making music that resonates with those of us who have survived and made it through
This had me almost crying while lipsyncing and moshing in the back of a bus like a proper emokid ffs. :D I'm 31.
Northlane and Nolly, best two things to ever collide.
Nolly mixed, Chris Blancato produced. Although tbh I prefer Will putney of Node and Mesmer to this. Nolly's mixes are flat and boring imo without anything standing out.
@@Raksh95 Putney didn't work on Mesmer tho
@@DankHill Yeah I meant node and Mesmer's production
Rakshith Bekal Mesmer wasn’t produced by Putney, it was produced by David Bendeth
@@transient442 he probably meant Singularity and Node
That keyboard gives me chills as f...
I'm getting some cyberpunk vibes in this. Tell me it's not just me. It's so good
Nice taste in music and profile pictures 👍👍
In my opinion , the best song from Northlane. I just can't stop listening to it. Really dig the vampire rock vibe.
This right here is what people call "The Good-Good".
Industrial vibes. Good job man
I Also get Alice in chains vibes in the chorus voice
industrial what?
Guitarist Josh said this was the most “radio friendly” song on the album. Banger tho
Triple j doesn’t matter. They’ll play literally anything at prime radio time.
They’ve played the dirtiest grindcore at like midday when everyone is listening on a weekday lol! They(Northlane) got plenty of plays after Alien came out. Plenty - best radio station ever! In terms of giving bands/artists exposure
this song feels so visceral, every word he says has been lived through, I love the symbolism of the chrome armor, after all he s been through, he is strong he isnt defenseless like he was as a child. I dont think there are many songs like this
I totally dig this nu metal vibe! Absolute banger
It certainly has a nu-metal vibe!
Maybe it's the forefront of a new genre.... Nu-nu-metal! 🤘
Bradley Forsyth nu-metalcore is officially here.
I personally think that While She Sleeps has a slight nu metal sound now. I like it.
Na, they're just ripping off a MIW sound! This sounds exactly any MIW song.
Jlo I like your Stick To Your Guns profile picture.
Nu metal Northlane is not what I expected but I was not disappointed
Funny I get nu-metal-metalcorish-industrial-djentish vibes, sounds so great, this is the future, what's best from all.
jesus man
That's why this is so awesome
This isn’t supposed to be ironic is it
Totally with you here, man! Just when I thought there cannot be anything fresh in metal anymore.
Saw this as an ad, definitely one of the few times I'd been glad ads exist
Groovy and D O P E . Also,Brendon Padjasek is great addition.
I miss Structures but I'm glad to see Brendon is still killing it
Wait what???
@@xosemusic Yeah the man from Structures joined them ;)
Aaaaaand another band has jumped on the nu-metal revival train. SO GLAD THIS IS A TREND IN MUSIC NOW.
Isn't it funny how at the height of metalcore/rise of deathcore everyone was still hating on Nu-metal. Then when both genres got stale they started jacking from Nu-metal realizing how diverse and genre splitting those bands were.
You might kill me but i would still not hear nu metal influence in this album
Marcus, your history was just like mine. I'm glad too see u stronger and I fell blessed that my father changed and is still alive, and that I have my son here with me to give to him a life and love that drug and violence took from me and I never had!! Even carrying those scars..
Thank god! A northlane record I can actually listen to on / with subwoofers....great job on the low end. Thank you jesus!
I see my father in this so bad...
Makes me tear up instantly
Remembering him slapping me on the cars backseat as a toddler...
I hear a child crying and screaming
I wish I could go back in time and protect my younger self.
I feel so sorry for you, I hope you’re okay now. I wish you all the best!
Damn....i went through shit like that. My dad would punch me like a man.
I was never in this situation as a kid and still this song runs deep into my emotions, I think it's just because I have a son.
Dude Marcus screams his God damned soul out in this track.
2:05 holy shit that despairing "LOOOVEE" breakdown scream *goosebumps*
“We grew up scared, bruised and battered, used, torn and tattered. As long as you were sky high, nothing fucking mattered”
Never commenting songs. But this video was extremely touching... being a parent and dad.... this must be absolute hell.
OH MY GOD THIS BRINGS ME SO MUCH JOY
When the car flips before the second chorus DAMN chills what a video
The lyrics and music video and the energy, it all vibed together so well. I felt that energy because I could relate to this song. Great job guys. 😭👍🏻
Not the northlane we expected but the northlane we need
On point comment ? This must not be TH-cam, something's wrong.
Hell yeah, 3 cheers for dumbed down music!
@@giov182 sending an important message with the lyrics through easier listenable music is not dumbed down, it's smart and honest to themselves.
Well said
AGREED
Honestly, I think this sound fits Marcus better. Loving this track!
who the f is still having this argument?
Was listening to Marcus Bridge’s Dream Awake audition and he has grown as a vocalist so much and the whole band has a totally different sound to their older stuff Marcus makes Northlane as unique as their older stuff was in a different way
These guitar tones didnt exist 10 years ago. Pure digital heaven
Sounds really good! Can't wait for full album
This actually sounds like a song from the early 00s. Kind of like....Spineshank, Ultraspank, Filter, American Head Charge, Orgy or Celldweller.
I thought of Jonny and the boys in Spineshank too
American Head Charge. It's been over a decade since I last heard that name.
2:09 goes harder than that stuff though
@@andrewhare5482 The bassist/co-founder Chad Hanks passed away 2017. The singer Cameron Heacock was arrested last year for "a stolen van that housed 13 stolen guitars, nine of which were lifted from a nearby Guitar Center, according to officals. Investigators were led to a storage unit loaded with more allegedly stolen items." Pretty sad since he has an awesome voice and that kind of ruined their image.
The comparison is a compliment I reckon. Some of the good music from that era is all but forgotten. The legacy of MP3s I guess. People slowly stopped buying CDs. Music became disposable
My son just sent me the link to this song. I am blown away! The singer and the band are phenomenol.
