Truly think this album is an essential metalcore staple and an incredible style expansion for the band. Years later I only love this album more and more
They've become pretty divisive in the genre because of that expansion in style continuing with Obsidian (that one was a bit of example of the trope known as a 'Base Breaker', I love it though) to the point that r/metalcore mods were discussing if they should even be allowed to be posted on there any more, along with bands like Bad Omens and Sleep Token.
It's very 'old man yells at cloud' imo and I think it's the fact that these acts have a large crossover appeal, pulling in new people to the world of metalcore that otherwise wouldn't have thought to check it out, and finding that they really like it. And...I agree to an extent, insofar as these aren't pure metalcore, this is now crossing into an era of 'post-metalcore', but I for one am really excited to see where it goes. I think the reddit mods just want to be gatekeepers and act like if you became a metalcore fan because of a chance sighting of something on Tiktok, you're not a 'real' fan you're a tourist

Enter Shikari while having a quite shitty production - influenced genre peekers like Asking Alexandria and maybe Attack Attack into making electronicore albums - so lately I See Stars could come out with their masterpiece Treehouse in 2016. But Northlane has nothing to do with ES. It's a whole new genre - it's not electronicore, it's technocore - technometal if u wanna. After Bloodline came out - my hopes for the album were pretty low. But goddamn... It's something I truly never heard and never quite expected.What they achieved It's incredible and the only thing I can say it's that I'm sorry that modern metal is dying because of fucking elitist boomers who are stuck in the 80s. Albums like this deserve much more praise and clout than they're getting - not to mention how braindead were NL fans for bashing Marcus when he joined the band. Adrian and Marcus are nowhere near - and damn - I like talking about this stuff lmao.

Northlane has kind of become what I always wanted Enter Shikari to be when I was younger. Heavier and with more sick electronic sounds. I love this!
The mindsweep is fairly similar in sound to alien imo
But, Enter Shikari WAS like this. Only that Northlane has...well...more talented musicians. Not to disrespect Shikari because i absolutely love them but facts are facts.

For some reason, this has always been a song I skip over since it’s. But today for some reason, it’s been on repeat. I finally understand.
Pure nostalgia, this album reminds me of the early years of Static-X. Wisconsin Death Trip & Shadow Zone. Love the experimentation by Northlane, they did a phenomenal job.

Bottom shelf teenage angst hogwash. It's not a new level...there are many bands that find their place there.
Say what you want about this album, but northlane stands OUT! No other band in the scene has this sound. Alien is one of the most addicting metal albums I’ve listened to. The songs get caught in your head after one listen. The melodic ones like Jinn, Freefall, and sleepless are just gorgeous masterpieces while the rest of the tracks have their own style that separates themselves from the other songs. None of the songs sound the same and that’s something I love. This is easily one of the best albums released this year.

It's 2024 and I'm listening to this song and band for the first time. I can say that I now officially love this band and this song is literally on repeat mode.
Northlane would be a perfect fit on Cyberpunk's soundtrack

I just want to speak for a second. When this pandemic started I was kind in a bad state of mind. This was also around the time I discovered Northlane, and I realised how much I fucking adore this record. One evening, I was having trouble sleeping, so I went for a walk around town at about 3am with this album playing. I live in a very urban town and with it being the beginning of the pandemic, everyone else was asleep and the streets were dead empty. It was just me, Northlane and the town to myself.
Thank you for this album Northlane, it's already gotten me through some rough hours and with hopefully help me with my rough hours for years to come.
How did the lyrics of this song actually mean anything to you? Do tell...because I can't make any sense from them...The music is a cooler version of Linkin Park....but these lyrics are just nonsense.
"I'm still trying, your will dying." No better description of the tumultuous relationship between an addict and the person trying to save them.
I had the utmost pleasure of watching this all unfold live at their 10year anniversary show in Sydney. These guys are amazing on stage and in the studio, cant wait to see them next year for the 4D tour

This album hits a spot that hasent been hit since the first time i heard Meteora when i was a kid.
On their Alien tour in Adelaide they messed up the start of this song and had to stop. Marcus then said "This next song is called 5D" :D
As we evolve in life, Northlane evolves with me.

I was bornt in 1984 so I grew up with _nu-metal_ and this band did an excellent job at capturing that sound and enhancing it with this new album.

Album of the year is very hard to decide for me between Alien, The Dark Pool (Thornnill) and HAIL STAN (Periphery).
Steyn dude same. Also diamond construct, Gideon, miw, cte, and crystal lake all came out with banger albums. For me I think thornhill, hail Stan, then alien maybe switch alien to 2 but nothing can top where we go when we die with that outro.
