    When I was little I was in the car listening to the radio, where Taylor Swift’s ‘Wildest Dreams’ was playing. I misheard the line “spinning in a nice dress” as “spinning in an ice chest”

We still jokingly sing it incorrectly despite knowing better. Honestly, we always knew that couldn't REALLY be the lyric. Fun fact: the word Mondegreen is a misheard lyric as well (but as in, poetry). Can't remember who coined it but she said how as a child she remembered a poem that was often recited to her, and there was a passage in it with something about "laid him on the green", which she misheard as "Lady Mondegreen."

    • @Nat_the_Chicken
      @Nat_the_Chicken ปีที่แล้ว +48

      It was from a _ballad,_ which is sort of halfway between a song and a poem, like it was written in a book but it's also commonly adapted to a song format. Anyway the ballad was called "The Bonnie Earl O'Moray" and the misheard verse included the titular earl's murder.

    For 35 years, my mom thought the second line of the chorus of "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" was "Don't leave me hanging on the line with JoJo." When I told her the real line was "Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo," she got very belligerent about insisting her version was right, even though, as I pointed out, her version didn't make any sense since it implies you are on the phone with a person never mentioned anywhere else in the song... while asleep! ‘Stayin’ Alive’ by the Bee Gees was used in a commercial for the Danish airline Stena Line, resulting in a whole generation of Danish people thinking that the Bee Gees were actually singing “ah, ah, ah, ah, Stena Line! Stena Line!” I thought the same thing until I was like 10, and it occured to me that it would make no sense for them to be singing the name of an airline. Instead, I came up with the *much* more plausible theory that they were singing “ah, ah, ah, ah, stenalderen, stenalderen” (the Stone Age, the Stone Age) - never mind the fact that they’d have no reason to sing a Danish word, let alone the word for ‘Stone Age’ 😅

    There was a section on one of our local radio stations that was all misheard lyrics. Some of my favorites were
    - Van Halen / Panama -> “Padded Bra”
    - Manfred Mann / Blinded by the Light -> “Revved Up like a *douche* (deuce is the proper word), another runner in the night”
    - Men At Work / Who Can It Be Now? -> “Who’s Canopy Now?”
    - Linkin Park / Numb -> “I’m becoming *Piss* all I want to do is be more like me and be less like you”
    - Ozzy Osbourne / Crazy Train -> “Mental Wounds not healing, moving broccoli”

    This happens a lot with Brazilian songs, too. The song "Noite do Prazer" (A Night of Pleasure) is infamous by its phrase "na madrugada, tocando B.B. King sem parar" , that means "in the dead of night, playing B.B. King unstoppinly". People usually mishear it it "trocando de biquíni sem parar" = changing one's bikinis unstoppinly". That always made me figure out a woman that can't sleep and entertains herself trying her entire collection of bathing suits, one after another.

    When I was younger, I was a big The Little Mermaid fan. I’d always watch it, and sing along to the songs. In Part Of Your World, instead of “Bright young women” I sung “Pregnant woman” 💀💀💀💀💀💀

      "Think of Batman pooping snakes!" in that one Peter Pan movie instead of "Follow the path that moonbeams make!"

      In lion king, I always used to hear "penguin llama penguin ima buy ya" instead of whatever it said in the other language but I think it meant a lion 🦁 and a leopard🐆

      @@SoapheadPogTo be fair, it did sound like "Batman pooping snakes" to me! Even when they were showing the correct lyrics!
