- It's incredible to see how quickly our goslings have grown. They are only two weeks old, but they have progressed to the "monster" stage of growth.

A friend kept his fowl in a large yard/pen that was divided in two. The birds lived in one half at a time. He kept mustard greens growing in the half the birds did not use. This way, putting them out to pasture was a matter of opening a gate from their sleeping quarters and they were safe for the day in the large yard/pen. I love the way you two love your birds. Nice job.

Kudos to you for feeding them greens and keeping their feed organic. That’ll give them a better chance to flourish and live better. I see a lot of farmers and breeders giving them the commercial stuff and no greens.
All poultry benefit from succulent feed such as grass, mustard or carrot greens, Swiss chard, etc. We feed ours kitchen scraps from preparation of human food, and they get a hydrating meal of scraps with cooked oatmeal in the middle of the day, even in summer. In winter, this meal is great to warm and hydrate them in the coldest part of the day. They love getting different kinds of feed.
Where I work, the are several canada goose broods, and if it wasn't illegal i'd TOTALLY catch one to take home to join my ducks.
When I watched this, my cat heard all the goslings and pressed his face to the screen. No secret what he was thinking.

That was a great video. Wasn’t unusual to see baby chicks and geese in my great grandparents kitchen by the coal and wood stove. Newspaper everywhere.

I can't find waterfowl starter or feed where I'm at.. What do I feed a gosling? And then a goose?
I never had domestic geese. I had a Canada goose male (with permit) and now I have two of his kids brother and sister. And I find the sister super curious and wants to see everything I am doing. I ordered some domestic geese so I'm excited to see if they are a little different from the "wild" geese

At what age did you start feeding them grasses? What is the other food, in their feeder? I was told goslings need very hight protein content feed, 20-28% protein, for their first 4-6 weeks. I'm trying to figure out what to feed my new goslings.

What type of geese do you have?
I so appreciate these gosling videos!! It's hard to find many videos on geese on youtube. I just hatched two American buff goslings, and they are adorable. What do you plan to do with them?
A couple of different plans. We plan to sell some as guard geese, keep a few for future generations and then send some to freezer as meat.
Dandelions. High in calcium and other stuff. Entire plant edible. You are both Very Lucky Humans.
If you are going to continue to do Geese and Ducks, I would suggest you grow rows of dandelion on purpose. Seriously. Used to be grown on purpose and the nutrition is sky high, for birds and humans.
That's a cool idea. Given how many I have picked this spring, we actually will have less next year because of consumption.
They are a perenial and come back bigger and leafier(sp?) every year for up to 15 years. As long as you just dont let them seed you will be aces. Also, they will pollinate themselves if you want seeds. Been an staple for people for millenia so it is not unheard of except recently. Pretty full-proof "crop" to grow.
When they are adults or young adults run across the field with your arms out like a maniac while calling them. What happens is fun. It makes up for the fact that they will girdle any tree they can pull anything off of.
I've heard that about the trees. I'll be using electric poultry netting to protect our orchard.

My mother wanted my geese after they stopped getting along with the men (little and big) in my house, and she didn't know and they stared multiplying like geese do and all of them really did a number on her figs and peaches. They really love their geese though (too many pilgrims and a bunch of africans, and some of them do get eaten).

I need advice I incubated one who's now a month and 7 days old then I have 3 4day Olds the oldest does not like the younger one and keeps trying to peck them I'm hoping this will pass?
They certainly do not need to be inside full-time at this point they are plenty fluffed out to be usually Outdoors just best not to do it when it's cold and rainy.
Eagles/hawks will get them. Too small
@@sujithsom5459 ahhh that's how it always works and eagles will take them as adults without a second thought so your point is highly moot. The fact that he has a bunch of ducks running around is proof that birds of prey are not a major obstacle to his flock. And since it's fairly clear that you don't actually have much experience with this the biggest threat is in fact in most cases owls. Those sneaky little bastards can wreck A Flock in no time.
@@deannelson9565 you clearly did not understand what I wrote. Bigger ducks are too heavy to lift for eagles and hence they do not attack that is why they are running free. smaller chicks are easy prey
@@sujithsom5459 you literally have zero experience with Eagles do you! You clearly don't understand that you're talking about something you clearly have no clue with an eagle will Target and kill adult geese on a regular basis hell certain populations of eagles actually specialize in this so those little farm ducks would be nothing to them! The ducks on this Farm could be picked up by a red tail hawk let alone a bald eagle and God forbid a golden were to show up there even more powerful than the balds. Having to deal with eagles for many years and there ain't a damn bird on this farm that the eagles would have the slightest bit of difficulty on in the adult form let alone the little fuzz ball stage and needless to say a little bit of mesh over top of a outside enclosure makes it instantly impossible for them to get in and not overly complicated to do. But i can guarantee you if he keeps putting those birds out in the open pasture even as adults at some point a bird of prey will discover them and we'll make a lunch of one of them. Out where I live it would have already happened because it's an extremely common occurrence out where he is out on the East Coast the Eagles are probably far less programmed for eating ducks and geese.

You need to get your self a pool for them to swim in a child's plastic sand pit feeld with water works really well a rubber car mat over the side as a ramp for them to walk in and out etc

So cute! So how do you deal with black flies? How long is the season?And, by the time I move to Northern Vermont, Alison will be an NP. I want to be one of her patients! She has a lovely bedside manner.
My best trick for black flies is use a mosquito net. Usually when I'm outside working at this time of year, I'll have one on over my ballcap. I'll let Allison know!
baby pool time... they also fit under the faucet of a utility tub if you want to bathe a few at a time... show the dirtiest some extra love.

Grit and sand are important. Even as adults now, I give them a dish of sand to eat at their leisure.
Dandelion are excellent food for all of us humans and Gosling
Gold Shaw Farm if you like geese, you may want to come check out my PET GOOSE PRETTY BIRD! Because, it could be good for your farm to have a protective pet goose to alert you when something dangerous is around. Geese pick up on predators and are insanely loyal! But, to have a pure imprint, you'd need to hatch it yourself. That way it never goes away!
I don't know if you've said yet. Will these be for meat as well as layers? We are considering geese too.
We're doing it for mostly meat, with a few guard geese/breeders selected from the flock.
Hope you also farm superworms for they food. Because the what they eat in the wild. Worms, bugs, and insects. Farm superworms, so you don't have to buy them food. Plus is healthy for them, and you if you eat them.

We have a mix of embden and pilgrim. Them embdens are the bigger birds.
You guys should really consider making a spring box for water containment and maybe even a 3k watt solar collector

@@GoldShawFarm yea the spring box can be built close quarters for an emergency water supply in case of natural or otherwise disasters and power panels can be built for next to nothing bit can be a live saver for you and the animals

I'm waiting another week for ours to hatch. That was fun to watch. Predator pressure.... I guess what you're building will protect them. A neighbour just had racoons pull chickens through mesh. Disgusting.
