      @@GoldShawFarm have you ever tried to let a chicken raise goslings?

  • @acidfreon160
    @acidfreon160 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    On our farm, small geese were always raised by ducks, goose eggs were placed under the ducks. Which did not cease to mother them even when the little geese grew so large that you could not see their ducklings from under a bunch of young geese. It was only possible to see her when she ran out to protect her children. Usually, we used this solution when geese did not want to brood their eggs, or we had too many ducklings. They were muscovy ducks. In Poland they are called French ducks.

    These videos put me in such a good mood. I didn't think I'd like the cows so much when they were first introduced, but with how friendly they've become plus the calves, it's really so nice to see them be part of your farm's life !
    Also I'm enjoying the updates on Abby's training, it'd be fantastic to see more of your work with her, or a side-by-side comparison with Toby's training so that we understand why you find her a bit slower to learn things, or maybe, I don't know, some sort of friendly competition between them ? I find it interesting but I also don't fully understand what you mean about her progress sometimes.

    On your last video another farmer commented on the possible need for parasite control for your cattle. This is a common challenge that is easily manageable with pasture cattle. The person who commented expressed concern for your skill level as a new cattleman. Based on watching your videos for the last year or so I’m guessing you’ve done your homework. Would love to see a cattle video at some point where you geek out on the husbandry details. BTW - your videos are about my favorite TV viewing these days. 👍

    I wish I could see 10-20 years into the future to see how the orchard looks by then!

    Love watching the critters. I cannot wait to get a nice small farm for some cattle, chickens and a horse or two. My dogs would love it.

    Every time I see the eggs roll out I giggle. Glad you are going to put something across the opening to keep it from happening.

    I am totally trying the peas.trick with my two ducks ! You have been invaluable for how they have grown up. Yesterday was their first free range swim in the pond with me in the boat. Before this I had them in a screen covered laundry basket that looked like a VW bus, towed behind the boat and floated with zip tied pool noodles. I called it Operation Training Wheels. This is because we lost one duckling to a red tail hawk who frequents the area. I never thought ducks would have such personality compared to chickens. They are so interesting!

    Thanks to the camera I now know what it would be like to be nibbled to death by goslings.
