      Great video Kyle, but unless he is wearing spanx so the skin is close enough that the mosquito could probe through, the clothing alone would reduce the available surface area the mosquitos have to an area too small to drain a person of enough blood to incapacitate said person.

    Kyle is an alien!
    Stay with me people. Let’s go through this step by step and I’ll, not only prove to you that Kyle is an alien, but he is a Protoss.
    What do you think this talk about his hair is all about? Is perfect golden hair. He keeps saying “oh this is genetics”. Right… The color of his hair is just a physical representation of his origins and keeps I’m connected with his true identity. As you know, Protoss use a golden armor to protect their bodies, so his hair is just a reflection of what he used to wear and that’s why he is so attached to it, keeping him focused on his mission.
    How does he keep teleporting in almost every episode? Protoss armor is typically equipped with a complex teleportation mechanism that can detect, for example, when its wearer is grievously injured and automatically teleports the warrior to the nearest safe haven. Somehow his air has retained some of the properties and abilities of the armor.
    Why do you think he keeps talking about space? Because it reminds him of his past life before coming to earth to study humans. This fascination with space is the same thing we call homesick. He misses his life in space exploration.
    The Expanse. Do I really have to talk about why he wants to be in The Expanse? That’s his only opportunity to relive his past life. That’s the closest he can get on earth to what he used to be. Even if it’s only a pretend thing. That’s how badly he wants it. #PutKyleonTheExpanse
    He keeps referring to us as having squishy human bodies. Human body? Why is that? Why this fascination with the human physic? He is just imposing is superiority when comparing is armored body with ours, while he studies every part of the squishy human body. Every part.
    How come must of the episodes are about super powers, super heroes, movies, etc.? Not only he is studying our biology, he is also studying our culture and the way we project things that we would like to be or be able to do in creations of our culture. He is constructing a global psychological profile of humans.
    Cats. I didn’t want to go here. He keeps talking about cats and how much he likes them. Why? ALF anyone? Am I the only one seeing this? He eats the god forsaken cats. Stop eating our pets, you beautiful Thor wannabe.
    Now let’s talk about “Nate”. The occasional voice of the Void “Nate”. As in Nate Kenyon? The author of StarCraft: Ghost Spectres? Coincidence? Right… Believe what you want. I bet this “Nate” keeps telling “Kyle” off camera that he needs to construct additional pylons.
    The Void. The most important proof of all. This is where he exists. He keeps telling us that his in a void. He doesn’t know how he can breathe... But he does. He speaks to us from a void. As in the Void that appears to bear a breathable atmosphere to creatures of the material universe? The Void whom has borne its own lifeforms? Kyle is definitely a creature of the Void. That’s how his able to live and sustain himself in that infinite nothingness.
    Nailed it. Kyle is an alien.
    Ps. Checkout my tiny tiny channel… and if I disappear, you know who did it.

    • @yaheki

      If I remember Leach bites don't itch but you would definitely die you would likely lose a few pints before your bleeding would stop

    • @Lord_Poyo
      @Lord_Poyo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The anticoagulant won't deal any damage to you until you...take damage. Wounds would not close up, meaning even the smallest of scratches could become life threatening, as you will potentially bleed out. However, the size of the wound would still determine how much time that would take. A small wound, though bleeding indefinitely, would likely take so long to bleed you out that the anti-coagulant would wear off before it happens. If you remain unwounded though, you would essentially be no different. It doesn't increase your heart rate or anything, but simply shuts down your coagulative abilities. However, due to the secondary effect: Blood vessel expansion, one would have reduced blood pressure and thus become somewhat more sluggish. However, vessel expansion does not cause a large difference in blood pressure, since the heart rate remains the same. So that isn't a threat.

      @1217BC 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@mpr746 No, I get that. You missed my point. The question he's asking is about how many mosquitoes it would take to drain you dry. In the hypothetical Kyle puts together, that takes a while, and multiple feedings. If you suffocate your victim they aren't going anywhere, and the skeeters have time to drain the body and deliver their payload a few times before the body would cool. Insects are even pretty good at packing tightly enough to block up a persons airways without sustaining significant casualties. At least compared to the losses sustained while their victim thrashed around on the ground while completely covered in multiple waves of mosquitoes. It's about efficiency and conservation of resources.

    Hey Kyle, love the show. Buh if you look at the clip of the man being swarmed by mosquitoes, you can see that they are circling around him meaning not all the mosquitoes are on his skin at the same time. What I’m trying to get at is that the mosquitoes already on his skin can suck his blood then as soon as they are done sucking, they go airborne and the ones that are already airborne can replace the ones that just got done sucking. Kinda like how a shift change/rotation would work at a job or something.

    • @calebthomas7116
      @calebthomas7116 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      RexiRexx87 another idea is that the mosquitos were a hive mind bred for the purpose of sucking a maximum amount of blood from organisms and at the greatest possible rate so that they could more efficiently feed their queen. We have to remember that this villain was bred in the house of evolution to be the pinnacle of genetic augmentation in her class so combined with what Rex said it seems totally plausible

    • @gorche69
      @gorche69 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      but that would make the blood draining process slower. as he said, the mosquitoes don't start sucking blood immediately after it gets onto the target. so either way it doesn't work like the anime.

    • @beige5838
      @beige5838 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      BUT, the mosquitoes also seem to act like a sort of hive mind controlled by mosquito girl, allowing the possibility for them to communicate blood vessel location to each other, dramatically cutting down on the time taken to find these veins after the first wave. This however does not solve the problem that after probably around stage two to three of blood loss mosquitoes would not be able to find a filled vein anywhere one proboscis length (as far as i can tell from measuring the diagram here "en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquito#/media/File:Culex_pipiens_diagram_en.svg", ~16% of their body length) below the skin.

  • @JenoPaciano
    @JenoPaciano 6 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    Even without pathogens, I don't think it would take this many mosquitoes to kill a person. If thousands of mosquitoes bit someone at once, I suspect the allergic reaction could be fatal on its own.

    Hi Kyle!
    Love the show!
    I think(with my 12th grade brain) that it would be quite hard for the mosquitoes to drain that much of blood because:
    Firstly, it would be quite hard for them to get under the clothes of a person and even if they do they would be squished and therefore not effective...
    Secondly, the blood vessels that the mosquitoes have access to are the capillary (the smallest ones) which can not carry that much blood and therefore the mosquitoes cant be deadly... you dont believe me... at some point, the skin of a person can carry up to 1L of blood ( only the best case scenario when you are calm, and the internal organs dont need that much blood) but (as you said) around 40% of the 4.5L you used for calculation is 1.8L. So imagine this scenario - the unfortunate guy is swarmed by mosquitoes (that magically get under the clothes ), he is terrified and therefore his blood is rushed by the nervous system and hormones to the important internal organs (for survival) but the aggressive mosquitoes keep sucking the blood out of the capillary so fast that they get all of it out, before the blood pressure can pump blood through those tiny vessels. Once the evil insects feel the lack of blood to suck, they will fly away. The partial necrosis of the blood I believe could be reversed at some point!
    One alternative way for a swarm of tiny flying insects to try kill a person would be for them to rush in the nose and throat of the victim and by this way suffocate him to death!!! Quite the creepy, scary shit!
    Have a nice day, Kyle!

    Maybe it is true that the ticks and leeches would be more effective in sucking blood. However, the problem is their slow movement which is where mosquitos have an advantage.

Imagine being swarmed by mosquitoes, unable to swat them because there are too many, aware that you're going to have all your blood sucked in a few minutes, and _on top of that_ your whole skin itches horribly.

    I mean, even if you can brush just your hands over your arms and legs you can take out hundreds/thousands of misquitos per second, before most of them could begin sucking.
    And once you're covered in dead mosquito and blood goo, you effectively shielded your skin, blood loss rate goes down to almost zero, while your killing rate remains constant, because mosquitos are just too squishy.

    • @coryzilligen790
      @coryzilligen790 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm fairly certain that a mosquito proboscis would not be able to penetrate deeply enough to reach most major blood vessels. Even if they could, it wouldn't really be a good idea for them to do so -- the pressure in arteries is higher than that in capillaries, and would _at least_ make it difficult for the mosquito to drink, if not outright causing harm to the mosquito. Veins would presumably be safe, since they have even lower pressure than capillaries, but IIRC they have thicker walls than capillaries and therefore might be difficult for the mosquitoes to penetrate.

It seemed somewhere north on the planet judging by where the sun is and since the land mass he was on seemed kind of thin one could draw the conclusion that it’s somewhere in greenland. Although there should be land mass somewhere to the left of that and it only shows ocean meaning either this is a planet very much so similar to Earth but with different continental plates, they forgot to draw in more land, it is in fact not Greenland, or worst of all just a very poorly drawn Earth for a 5 second gag at the end of the video. I would like to think it was my first conclusion however because that is a lot more fun.

    I think that - apart from being unnecessary - the mosquitoes probably couldn't even drain all your blood. At some point, the blood pressure in your body would be so low (mainly because of blood loss and your heart giving up after you died), that no blood would be pushed within the reach of the mosquitoes. Not sure when that would happen, but I could imagine it being somewhere between 1/3 and 1/4.
    Not that you'd survive because of that, but you'd simply... Be a little more prepared for embalming? I don't know. You're dead so to you it would make no difference whatsoever.

    The drop in blood pressure mentioned at the end would come even quicker due to the histamine released in reaction to all those mosquito bites. It causes your blood vessels to dilate which would lower your blood pressure. That would be compounded by the leaking of plasma and leukocytes from the blood stream into other tissues, further dropping pressure.

      MrFun the body usually only produces blood at a rate of 0,034 mililiters a minute, in case of extreme blood loss it could theoretically increase its production rate up to 4 times its normal rate but it would still only be 0,13 mililiters a minute. This rate of production would be negligeable when you consider a rate of blood loss on the scale of liters per minute, so i gess it would be unimportant to factor that into the result.

    Doing some very rough maths here, given an average adult circulating volume of about 5L of blood, approximately 30% is in the arterial system and 70% in the venous one. The volumes in the arterial system are the ones that have the biggest impact on your blood pressure. The venous system can expand and constrict itself to work around most volume losses so it's much better able to deal with you hemorrhaging blood. The estimated amount that you can lose by bleeding out before you die is about 2L. However, because the venous system works off mechanical independant pumps that aren't centrally controlled and the system's elastic properties, you'll still continue to bleed for a while after this. The 2L lost to kill number is based on the estimated minimum oxygenated blood. If we take what's left (3L) and split that as per location (900mL/2.1L) and add the venous volumes as these are what the mosquitos are drawing, we find that despite the mosquitos having already killed you by draining you of 2L, they could go on to drain another 2.1L after your heart gave out due to a lack of oxygenated blood. Approximately.

Guess my fascination with the topic outweighed the empathic nausea I get from talking about this kind of stuff. Its kinda funny to learn about how a mosquito proboscis actually works too, considering I've had thoughts about anthro mosquito people for a D&D campaign, and I had their nose-proboscises curl up when not in use, but turns out 'art' imitates life without even realizing it :D

    great Vid as always. I was just wondering about the effect (the mummification) the man experienced after he lost his "blood". if we only consider, that he lost 4.5 L blood, I do not think the effect of it would have been so severe. IMO the show either wants us to think, that mosquitoes actually drained the man from liquid (including water) not from only his blood. or they just made a mistake and thought the effect of drained blood would have been the same as Imhotep kiss from the Mummy.

    • @Incognito_Blazer
      @Incognito_Blazer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be very close, but it is a bit exaggerated since it's an anime. Blood contains a very large amount of water in the body, so while not all the water would be gone, it would still be a significant amount

    • @Spare_Time_G
      @Spare_Time_G 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have to disagree. Kyle even states here, that blood is about 5 L/kg in human body. I have been hiking one day, 50 km in 2 days and have climbed 2 km up hill. due to hot weather, I have lost 7 kg of my weight of water and i was nowhere near the mummy level skinny (as it is in the anime) draining 5 L liquid from the body will not cause that drastic decrease in body mass (granted after 2 days of normal lifestyle, I have regained my lost 7 kgs of mass back)

    To be fair, the mosquitoes she controls aren't drinking blood to feed themselves but to transport blood to her, which could mean that they have a different anatomy optimized to both extract more blood more efficiently and also to more effectively hunt in a swarm to drain completely, which normal ones have no reason to

    Even the idea of millions of mosquitoes on my body makes me gag, this would be the most excruciating death imaginable. The last minutes of your life would just be hopelessly fighting of millions of mosquitoe, only to die as a lifeless corpse on the ground

  • @leaguemastergg3647
    @leaguemastergg3647 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    you can enter stage 1 shock after losing just a little bit of blood if you are losing blood really quickly. Also if you lose more than 2 liters of your blood you will die, unless something is done REALLY soon. Also, the sweating he is referring to 6:41 is called diaphoresis. After you enter shock your body will compensate for it by shunting blood away from the extremities and to the vital organs, when your body is unable to do this anymore you are in decompensated shock and your bp will start to fall again (6:45) and you will be severely (hypotensive = low bp) and there most likely won't be any blood going to your brain

    Related fun story: A few years ago, my friend and I had parked our car one place, then walked to another place. I walked on the pavement, he walked on the grass. This was about a quarter mile stretch. When we got home, he realized he was covered in ticks. I pulled 22 off of him. It was one of the more horrifying things either of us had experienced to that point.

  • @SherbertHusky
    @SherbertHusky 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem of dropping blood pressure is compounded by the saliva of the mosquitos which would cause mass dilation of blood vessels. The amount of saliva from 0.5 to 5 million mosquitos maybe be enough to cause a rapid and fatal drop in blood pressure killing someone even faster than just losing blood alone would.

  • @soupsandwch
    @soupsandwch 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    So here's the problem with the blood draining calculations and shock stages. During hypovolemic shock (and most shock types) the sympathetic response kicks in. The most important event of this is that surface blood vessels constrict, shunting blood away from the skin (where the mosquitoes are searching since they can't dig down at larger, more essential vessels) towards the your core. This would slow their blood sucking ability to a metaphorical crawl.
