Interesting way to put it. I think it's because of how intense the song is being expressed where as in a book, the reader can see that the words are serious and intense as well but add a voice and it's very real
Also many people dont read too many books, or read checkout lane books, not that every single book you can buy in such places is bad of course. Only the majority.
Fun fact, Eminem actually showed this track to Kim in a way to show her how much he cared about her and what she meant to him. Needless to say she wasn’t a fan. But pretty interesting that he made it to demonstrate his love for someone, yet it’s so dark. Powerful.
😅haha yeah in his book "Angry Blonde" he said he really wanted 2 pour his heart out but this is what came out. 😅He thought she should realize he took a whole song just about her so that should say something about how I feel but then he said he realizes now how dumb that was . 😅 it's kind of backwards bcuz the fact that he thinks it's a big deal he used a whole song on her kinda says how little he thought of her like songs are more important. 😮 also after reading his mom's book I think the song is a repressed memory of his dad when he was a baby.

Lol no shit? Me and my best friend absolutely loved this song around that age. One of the first I ever heard as well and also memorized it word for word. We never knew the name of it either so we just called it track 16 cuz it was number 16 on the album
Songs like these are therapy. Write them and listen to them to get the thoughts and feelings out of your head so it doesn't drive you to actually do it or go crazy.

I managed to get my hands on this album when I was 10, 25 years ago, and I'm the one in therapy now. I can assure you these facts are related. This world is dark.
Imagine being DRE when Eminem was recording this. Em did the Kim part too, by the way. I imagine DRE thinking something like "Sh*t, maybe I never should've taken him under my wing...." 😂
Dre said the song made his jaw hit the ground. He was probably thinking, "shit this kid is rapping about doing worse than I did to Dee Barnes and it's wife, the fuck is wrong with this guy?"
That bleeeeed at the end with the throat gargles man this song is so demented it should prove violent music dosnt make killers or there would have been a whole generation of serial killers what 13 14 years old when this came out like it was just normal
Got this album when I was around 14. Naturally, my dad and grandma immediately banned it. But this track was one of the first that really made me understand that separation between real life and fiction (art, music, books, etc) on a deeper level. Just because something absolutely extreme in a particular emotion (violence, in this case), that doesn't mean the creator actually did it or ever would do it. Great breakdown, KH.
Dude I get chills everytime I hear this song. I loved your reaction to it. And as many times as I've heard it I never caught onto some things you point out. Your insane with how nothing goes past you. Good work man.
23 years ago, when I bought this album (CD for the kids), and heard this song for the first time, I laughed for like 10 minutes during the part where he's like, "go ahead, yell. Here I'll scream with you. Ahhhh somebody help!" Maybe I'm twisted as well. . . Lmmfao!!! Great breakdown!
Had a friend who went through a break up like this and he said that these were the thoughts that would go through your head he would run through different ideas until he would calm down because he knew it couldn't happen.
Totally agree Masterpiece. Yes its dark .It soo great that listening to this you can see like is live scene. EMINEM Genius. Production. MASTERPIECE!!!!
The missing lyric goes "there's a 4 year old boy laying dead with a slit throat in your living room." I remember hearing that version of the track many years ago.
Imagine Em inside the booth recording this. lol. and imagine Dre behind the console. This song was and is pure genius. The emotion he puts in his voice is crazy.
I heard this song and owned this album when it was first released. I think the reason he did so well was because his music was so shocking. He tells stories with his songs. Lots of them could be considered offensive. Although this one particularly, is very insightful. The abuser in a DV situation will nearly always blame the victim for the consequences of their own anger.
I think this is one of the most impactful and best told Eminem songs. The production, delivery, and storytelling are all as insane as Eminem is in this song.
A wonderful song. From rhymes to storytelling to background noises to the hook and all the things you pointed out that I didn’t notice. You are a master! I wonder if those type of songs are still be written now or if some artists censured themselves. Music (and other arts) are cathartic, they visualise thoughts without turning them into actions. And as a listener we can relate to them and don’t feel we are alone going nuts with ‘bad thoughts’. Thanks from UK!
This song to me is one of the most raw, internal, and most emotional pieces ever. Literally putting everything he wanted to do in a song... and expresses it in song and not in reality. The pure emotion that most people are afraid to admit to... eminem expresses brilliantly. I use to cringe at this song as a kid.... but as an adult... it really is just unique, creative, artistic, real, raw and intense
It really is one of those songs that you don't just listen on any given day. But that still need to exist, that have and deserve to have their place in the world. Music is such an important artistic outlet - for the person making the song and the people who experience similar feelings and thoughts. For the rest of us, they serve as thought-provoking art.
Surprisingly there is a comedic side to this song and that is when you picture Eminem in the booth shrieking in his high pitch voice as Kim that's the genius of this whole album, shocking, dark, funny all at once
In the beginning of the video i was saying to myself “ even if i watched like tens of reaction videos to this song, I will learn something new from Knox after this video” and you didn’t disappoint, it’s the first time i pay attention that the legs hanging out the trunk in TSSLP cover is Kim’s legs after you pointed it out. This is why you are the GOAT 🫡
“I don’t wonna go on living in this world without you” the emotion in which Em spits I can feel his raw pain in my own veins one of the only artists to repeatedly do that. His storytelling on this song is captivating & gut wrenching. Some people can’t tell the difference between fictional horrorcore & real life. It’s like therapy for anyone that’s been in an abusive relationship & can connect with Em, some think cause he’s a man he wasn’t a victim of DV when Kim’s admitted to abusing Em too. Its talent to write lyrics expressing deep hurt & still make a catchy hook to sing along with him.
I feel like a lot of people underrate this song due to how hard of a listen it can be. Gets written off as horrorcore or shock value but it really is an amazing piece of work. The performance alone.....
Great analysys bro. Loved your reaction and breakdown of it. Y'know, when you go through something like this, and you've had these thoughts but didn't act on them, this song hits you in a whole different way. It honestly makes my grown 30yo ass cry, especially at the "I HATE YOU, I SWEAR TO GOD I HATE YOU...oh my god I love you..." part...I can't forget the moment I screamed those words myself pacing around alone in my apartment just in my own anguish. I think it's fine to think certain things and feel certain ways, as long as you can rationalize around them. Art is a method of release and catharsis, and that's all this song was, a glimpse into the deranged thoughts of a seething, hurting man, a window into the freaking insane levels anguish a broken heart can bring you to. Em's got a way with this shit not many other artists do.
You know its going to be dark cos its Emininem lol. The backing music is in key of D minor which is the most creepy & disturbing key for music & has been really popular for horror movie soundtracks ever since The Exorcist. Listening to this it I see now why you draw comparisons btwn Eminem & Ren! Both artists really commit to vocally acting out & expressing each role in their songs & also fully understand how to fully take advantage the backing track & the emotional impact the sounds can have on the listener.
8:47 - Ayo Knox, here ya go; "Eminem - Kim (Original Demo/Version) [With Lyrics] 1998" on TH-cam - That's the original full unedited version of this masterpiece.
I had this on my computer thanks to those fun music stealing programs back in the early 2000s and my grandparents found it or caught me listening to this and I got in so much trouble lmaooo After my own daughters dad drove me through Nashville driving nuts and threatened to take us off the bridge and speeding up to the trucks in front of us like he's gonna smash into them, while I screamed and cried, the "I love you" and trying to placate them is terrifying and so real.
When I first heard this song it was 1:30 in the morning and I was so scared I didn't leave my chair for an hour straight. And the quiet cricket noises are chilling as you feel alone with them watching the scenes taking place
This is one of my top 5 favorite Eminem songs. I like how passionate but completely deranged he sounds; you can tell getting this out of his head and recording it was akin to therapy for him.
This song is one of the greatest displays of what I love about Em. Especially old Em. He paints such a vivid picture with his storytelling that with this song in particular sometimes I forget how good the rhyme schemes are because the story sucks you in. Like this song sounds literally like he's having a mental breakdown in the booth. And the way he wrote it I have a whole music video in my head of it. Even to the minute little details like "what the fucks this guys problem on the side of me!? FUCK YOU ASS HOLE! yeah BIT ME. Kim KIIIIM! Why don't you like me?" and there was never a song he did before or since where you feel his rage on such a visceral level screaming so fucking loud his voice cracks. Also I let my daughter hear it ( she's the same age I was when I first listened so ) And I wasn't there for it but she told me after work. Our initial reactions were the exact same "what the fuck did I just listen to"
YES!!! Thank you for finally breaking up this *Masterpiece!* This song is so amazing, the storytelling, the lyrics, the realness of the story! This is one of the best rap songs ever... Hey Knox please do '97 Bonnie and Clyde next, it was released before Kim but it takes place immediately after it. Also it transitions from the overwhelming emotion portrayed in Kim to a Calm almost dead cold narration, similar to the difference in tone between kamikaze, mtbmb pt 1 and finally pt 2
I believe(it has been a long time ) that in the censored version of the CD version of this album replaces this song with a song called "Kids." it was funny.
@@valorantlineups6713 Thanks for telling me that im goin to go watch it rn Also bad husban is 🔥its just really underated since its in revival, if it was in MMLP2 it would have been one of the best songs on that album
"a lot of artists walk the line between creative genius and psychosis" Ye is another perfect example of this, but even more misunderstood and hated than Eminem.
The uncut version is on TH-cam without the part about the 4 year old being censored out. It actually amazes me how many people really don't know what he says right there.
I'm quite attached to this song... This was the first song at 11 that I would recite and was over heard by my father who then dragged me into the bathroom to have my mouth literally washed out with soap... that sucked, but then quickly became enjoyable because those were some of the biggest bubbles I ever blew lmao 😂🤣✌️
And also notice how for when slim shady turns down the radio station he turns down her voice too because Kim’s constant recapitulation of basically her saying I love you is some kinda chorus to slim shady so therefore he turns it down to 0% just so Kim listens to him and doesn’t distract slim shady from murdering her
This was the first time I took to this single. I know the history enough to have dodged this single for what now over 20 years. Sometimes, even when someone puts it out into the world.....feels like it is not my place to know about it. It is a powerful song, and insanely emotional. I am not certain there is a bad single on this album at all.
I had the original uncut version when this first leaked back in the day before it originally dropped. It's on TH-cam if you search Eminem - Kim (Uncut)
Everyone always talks about how this song is so psychotic, upsetting, unsettling, messed up, blah blah blah. But, to me, it showed his mental state in general and how he viewed Kim in his mind due to his mommy issues and the abandoment of his father that he was far from dealing with at that time. Especially after having hailey cause he so badly wanted to not have a "broken home" for hailey.
I remember my cousin got a cassette tape of the Marshall Matters LP and then listened to this for the first time. Unfortunately for me, I got traumatized at how dark this song is. IMO, this is definitely one of Em's darkest songs ever.

Powerful, so tapped into these deep emotions. Great Job. Knox. You are the (Eminem) GOAT, of break down. Great Channel. Keep Kickin Ass
8:47 - Ayo Knox, here ya go; "Eminem - Kim (Original Demo/Version) [With Lyrics] 1998" on TH-cam - That's the original full unedited version of this masterpiece.
I had this on my computer thanks to those fun music stealing programs back in the early 2000s and my grandparents found it or caught me listening to this and I got in so much trouble lmaooo
After my own daughters dad drove me through Nashville driving nuts and threatened to take us off the bridge and speeding up to the trucks in front of us like he's gonna smash into them, while I screamed and cried, the "I love you" and trying to placate them is terrifying and so real.
When I first heard this song it was 1:30 in the morning and I was so scared I didn't leave my chair for an hour straight. And the quiet cricket noises are chilling as you feel alone with them watching the scenes taking place
Unless I'm also feeling enraged when I'm listening, this song makes me queasy. It's just so viscerally raw about such a horrific fantasy.
I don't know if a rapper can do a song as raw as this Eminem will always be the greatest ever imo
Another amazing review! Keep up the great work!
That hat is fresh Knox ✔️✔️!!
No it's dope
929k??? I truly don't understand why you don't have 3 million subs. You are the best breakdown channel. Period!
So ironically if you look up the lyrics for kim online it shows the uncensored lyrics and says everything cleary written out in plain black and white.
"I don't want to go on living in this world w/o you." = "If I can't have you, no one else can."
This is one of my top 5 favorite Eminem songs. I like how passionate but completely deranged he sounds; you can tell getting this out of his head and recording it was akin to therapy for him.
I had this album when it came out.
Nothing was censored, I've still got it somewhere
I'm always curious as to why people get so upset about Kim, but have won't have issues with a Quentin Tarantino film or another gory horror movie.
Our initial reactions were the exact same "what the fuck did I just listen to"
If someone tells you get in thier trunk run!! If someone pops their trunk run!!
My dad killed my stepmom so this song really hits home
I believe(it has been a long time ) that in the censored version of the CD version of this album replaces this song with a song called "Kids." it was funny.
Can you please react to 25 to Life, this song has helped me out a lot and has been my favorite song for the past year
This or space bound would be cool
25 to life, bad husban and belive are some of my favorite
I would love it if he reacted to any of those
@@EpicVenge Knox already reacted to Believe
I like Bad Husband but I don't care for a reaction for that yet
NF's album is about to drop, so its gonna be a while for him to do any Eminem reactions
@@valorantlineups6713 Thanks for telling me that im goin to go watch it rn
Also bad husban is 🔥its just really underated since its in revival, if it was in MMLP2 it would have been one of the best songs on that album
Back when Em's passion was at an all time high
To this day, I've never heard Em being more emotional than on this record. This established him as a True artist,Imo
"a lot of artists walk the line between creative genius and psychosis" Ye is another perfect example of this, but even more misunderstood and hated than Eminem.
Lol!!!!! Was wondering if you were ever going to cover this one!🔥🔥🔥really going to get the haters mad now
You have no idea how long I have been waiting on this one coach!
Umm... wtf man ARE YOU OKAY
@@bettyblue1465 Considering I am 34 now, I'd say I am okay, lol
@@optimisticgnomerz happy to hear that lol
😂
And also notice how for when slim shady turns down the radio station he turns down her voice too because Kim’s constant recapitulation of basically her saying I love you is some kinda chorus to slim shady so therefore he turns it down to 0% just so Kim listens to him and doesn’t distract slim shady from murdering her
The kids hearing Houdini and getting mad need to hear this
What makes this and Em so great is Em makes you feel sympathy for him, like he’s in the right in the situation.
This isn’t Eminem…this is Slim Shady
fr
When I’m asked what song to play I ALWAYS answer with this one
This was the first time I took to this single. I know the history enough to have dodged this single for what now over 20 years.
Sometimes, even when someone puts it out into the world.....feels like it is not my place to know about it. It is a powerful song, and insanely emotional.
I am not certain there is a bad single on this album at all.
he actually recorded this in 1998, but dre and em remastered and released it for the mmlp
Great work, another amazing reaction😮
If you could also do Eminem Infinite that would be awesome 👍
I had the original uncut version when this first leaked back in the day before it originally dropped. It's on TH-cam if you search Eminem - Kim (Uncut)
Your subs are growing fast man! Congrats! React to shady xv! I remember you being at 523 k and now your at 923! Crazy!
You cant cancel someone who doesn't care for that culture. The man has been canceled since his debut.
Cancel culture just seems pointless and doesn’t make a whole lot of sense tbh
If you ask me, I think the chorus isn't part of the song's storytelling, I think it was instead directed to real Kim, not her in the song
The drum sample in this track is from Led Zeppelin's 'When The Levee Breaks' iirc.
Loved your reaction bro!!!
First just wanted to say i am new here I came across one of your metal Monday videos and loved watching new people react to music I have loved for a long time and while binging some of your videos I can tell how appreciate that metal is so much deeper brushing your instruments and making noise as a lot of people who have never analysed metal music tend to think keep up the great content I will be here for the journey I do recommend looking into a band called OTEP she is a truly gifted artist I'll try and find the perfect song to recommend which encapsulate Her Style
Damn, this song and album takes me back to when I was a massive fan of Eminem back in my mid 20s……., when this came out
