    Hey Knox, loved this video…very informative for those who weren’t around for pop culture in the early 2000’s.
    I personally don’t think there was ever a “beef” between these two. Rather a mutual understanding that…at the time…they were both in the prime of their career’s. Competition was cranked up to 1000%.
    Thing that’s great about this…it never got disrespectful. Nobody had to be called out directly. Nobody stepped on another person’s name for self benefit. Both artist were able to enjoy their prime and get the bag without lasting repercussions
    Fans of both artists got great music…the best that both artist had to offer at that time. This is what healthy competition looks like.

    I think that was a little tap at Nelly for sure. Great breakdown as always Knox!!! I had never seen that TRL clip of Nelly before, that just put everything into context for me b/c I was aware of all the other stuff. Great, great stuff. One thing I think you could have added to give further context of Nelly’s success at the time was Jay-Z’s line from ‘Excuse Me Miss’…”Only dudes movin’ units, ‘Em, Pimp Juice, and us”.

    • @camronshean1758
      @camronshean1758 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ja Rule responded to that line too. On Black Child's song Bang Bang Bang "For those who check SoundScan, check again, it's Rule, Pimp Juice and Eminem" Ja Rule was selling more than Jay-Z at the time

    Amazing video keep them coming. There is another Eminem beef out there that I'm sure not many people know about and that is his beef with Insane Clown Posse and Esham ( it was mostly with ICP) that accord around 1999 to about 2003 or 2004. I don't know if you have covered that one yet or not but it would be interesting to get your take and perspective on it specially a breakdown/reaction to some of the diss songs that where made then.

    • @ironik4400
      @ironik4400 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the ICP beef is pretty known by Em fans. Em frequently references them in several tracks. They ended up squashing the beef though much later.

    • @sykox5749
      @sykox5749 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ironik4400 well I figured it would be known by Em’s fans but I was kinda suggesting for it was one to get Knox’s view on it and second kinda have it exposed I guess to more people who didn’t know. Yes the beef has squashed for a long time now and how it get squashed was unique as well. Plus with Em referencing them in some of his songs in a positive way kinda shows how far he has come since the beef.

He had stuff before Country Grammar. When Nelly became known nationally, everyone from STL was like, finally…people realize how great Nelly is! And, myself and family have bumped into Nelly in STL over the years. Even during his peak. Always so nice! My mom was entering the mall at the same time Nelly was (had no idea who he was) and he politely ran ahead to grab the door for her, said “hear you go, mam.” It wasn’t until she saw him in the men’s section, everyone making a fuss, and heard someone mention his name when she realized who he was. She later asked for a pic, and again, he politely said “of course.” I’m still bitter she didn’t ask for an autograph for me because she knew I loved him! 😂 However, I have a feeling Eminem is the same way in Detroit! Much love to both! 🥰

    Knoxx you gotta do the Eminem vs. Miilkbone. I was there for it front and center.. I saw the blackball of Milk. Miilkbone was slapping him around and backed by funk flex. Miilkbone was the first to do a Dear Slim. Facts

    I remember back during the LimeWire and Kazaa days I would download some lesser know songs and diss tracks from Eminem and one of em was labeled “Benzino, Ja Rule and Nelly diss” and I never understood why they included Nelly in it because there wasn’t a diss towards Nelly in it. I don’t remember what song it was but I never actually heard a diss towards Nelly. Now at least I know there was SOME truth in the title

    Eminem and jelly has the same trajectory. They released albums 00, 02, 04. Had their crews. D12 and the Lunatics. Probably just friendly competition because they were battling for that number one spot. They should have collaborated fr.

    I remember constantly seeing Detroit Grammer on LimeWire and downloaded a few. That's when I realized it was fake but I remember that TRL episode. And the Reaslist freestyle was playing on the radio with Biggie and 50

    Ooh I never knew about this. Interesting video! Nelly is underrated in rap

    I find it funny the narrative that battles have to be in a negative context, Em and others test their skills on tracks with features, like Busta said calm down was the 'case study'. Battle on a track trying to one up each other and make something beautiful. Wu-Tang whole thing was try to better each other in the booth.

    Detroit Grammer. I honestly thought it was a Mandela effect as I've never seen or heard it mentioned by anyone else. I too saw it on lime wire and napster and a bootleg Eminem cd which I got for this reason but it never worked!!
    Nit sure about the Paul thing, in the Malcom X diss by Royce, Trey Little raps -
    Eminem, Nelly said he would eat you like Candy, so what did you do? Got Paul to go call him up.
    And Nelly, was very street. Couldn't see him backing down first. In fact he even got 50 cnt to apologise to Ashanti on stage.
    I dunno, great video, just need to cover the alleged Ludacirs/Eminem beef.

    I vaguely remember eminem and nelly gossip (i mean they were both huge). Eminem also gave Nelly some props from time to time.
