- Sometimes a very talented artist can paint such a compelling picture that it can draw some relatable experiences that are difficult to visit. This song did this for me. Join me on this very interesting journey...

This song is intense, but yes, you can hear the pain as he's screaming through this song. A much healthier way to deal with anger than a lot of other people have in this situation.
The track STAN was actually made way after this track KIM..... so Stan was emulating "Slim Shady" in the Stan video as he was such an obsessed fan that he put his own girlfriend in the trunk the same way believing that Eminem's lyrics were literal. It was to highlight the perspective of a deranged fan that takes all of Eminem's music literally and doesn't understand the context of the art.

There's a line in "When I'm Gone" that he speaks from Hailie's perspective: "help mommy, her wrists are bleeding." That was true, and it was part of the fallout from songs like this and '97 Bonnie and Clyde, he was singing them at shows and she just couldn't take it.

Kim tried to commit suicide after Em performed this song at a show she was at.
They had somewhat reconciled and she had asked him to stop doing that song live. Em was still mad, performed it directely to her.

He perform this song live only once that im aware of, it was during the "up in smoke tour" when they was in Detroit he performed it unware to Eminem at the time Kim was in the crowd when this song was perform. Kim reacted by cutting herself. Eminem references about Kim doing this on the Eminem show i believe.
@@Aftermath. nah that’s actually not exactly true. It was actually the song “Kill you”. Which had a small snippet of “Kim” at the beginning which segwayed into Kill you. He also had a blow up doll during it he named Kim and beat up and threw into the crowd. He’s never performed the full song of Kim at all.
I used to listen to this all the time when I was feeling angry as a teenager. It’s a full on throw up of raw emotion. Some people hurt others, or themselves or keep everything inside. This is a him using his art to get his pain out
this was the healthiest and safest way he took his anger out about this situation… i thank him for this masterpiece

Why is a woman talking about what men would do? Stay in your lane
Some of this stuff you don't "need" to react too because it's clearly not who he is today, but to fully appreciate who he is and what he's become listening to the early stuff gives you a better picture of his growth as a person.
This song to me is a masterpiece because I never EVER have heard a song that makes you feel as disgusted, scared, and sad. Even the instrumentals by themselves are just SOO unsettling. This song accomplished exactly what he wanted
As a child growing up in a house where you witnessed abuse on a weekly basis, I can relate.
My brother got to an age where he had to be the man of the house, and try his best to defend my mother against my alcoholic dad and often got beat in the crossfire. The system did not protect families back in the day and although my dad was often arrested for the things he did, he was just put in a cell to sober up and sent home the very next day. I'm in my fifties now still if I see a fight, I get terrible flashbacks and my body shakes uncontrollably. For anyone who has suffered as a child growing up, we are survivors, never forget that
I decided to move on.
Michelle i went through similar experiences, I put them to the back of mind, literally just other day something triggered all memories..... abuse n torture is all I can remember from 5 till 15... as a father of a 17yr old daughter she won't experience what I put up with 😑🤨
Tbh we thought it was normal to be drowned,beat up,put in hospital as a child it was daily.... thinking back 🤔 wow me and my brothers survived our own parents.... 😑

We tried warning ya about this one. They didn't even put this on the censored version of the album.
For context, this was Eminem’s second big album.. definitely around his heavy drug usage.. he was also known for being a shock artist and making crazy songs like this and saying outlandish things.
Kim ended up suing Eminem for 10 million because of the emotional distress the song caused.. she also wanted full custody and didn’t want him to see Hailey, they ended up settling the case and he did get to keep his joint custody, around the same time Kim also cut her wrists in a suicide attempt. Eminem has quoted saying he doesn’t listen to the song anymore and when he made the song it was just built up anger however he said a lot of their fights are very similar to the song, I assume without the killing part lol.
Also around the same time Eminem’s mom was suing him for 11millon for Cleanin out my closet.. in that case they settled for $1600 lol

Em is always such a brilliant storyteller. I always find the craziest bit about Em's older tracks is that he does the sound effects and other persons voice in the tracks , rap genius
He did get into a lot of trouble for this song, infact he invited kim to watch him live at one of his shows, then performed this song in front of her while doing the actions to a blowup doll that he called Kim right up there live on stage in front of her, she then went home and slit her wrists

the part in the last verse u didn’t get with the son walking in and getting killed is probably the craziest darkest part of the song: he’s explaining to Kim how he’s going to cover up his crime, he killed the man she cheated with and his son so he said he’s going to make it look like Kim killed them and herself
It's hard to listen to, I usually skip it, but it's so emotional and a work of art imo. You can hear that Em needed this as an outlet, I think.
The pure, raw emotion in his voice. This song is pure emotional vengeance. Instead of doing anything literally he talks about in this song..... he refrains and does what he does best..... pours it into a song. And to me this is the best example of pouring your pain into something instead of actually doing the damn things. He's venting and he let us in.
He paints a perfect picture. You imagine whats heppening the whole song. Like a good horror move.

This is definitly a once in a couple of years track to me. It really is a full on emotional rollercoaster which always hits deep and profound. I feel all the cringe, pain, disgust, sadness, bargaining, insecurity and fury this absolute masterpiece portrays. You don't only hear but so easily feel all the emotions that Eminem is going through. Now tell me who is able to do that in 5 minutes ? It's like a horrorstory that has a tractor beam on you and you can't look away. It's disgustingly beautifull to be honoust. Thank you also for your share
“Cool experience” sums it up man. Nobody had this on their playlist… but I literally remember the first time I heard it, it’s powerful, it’s art and the man is in possession of genius. I think music is meant to evoke emotion, of some sort. And in that, this certainly succeeds.

Going back to his older albums after his new is probably the smart move for people first listening to his catalog. Definitely he brought horror and shock rap to a new level. Tho it makes sense, couldn't make gangsta rap and wouldn't get the respect rapping about being white.

You need to listen to 97 Bonnie and Clyde next, it released the year before but chronologically in the story picks up right after Kim. Then finally after that would be nice to see you react to Bad Husband, Em’s apology that he made 17 years later

I've been there at his place, with my wife and in my head had own Kim scenario, happily for both of us nothing happened... Didn't heard this song in ages, but now while was listening it... I know how he felt. People do not appreciate him as much he deserves, I know how big and popular Em is but there isnt other artist who open themselves as much as he did, especially in early stage of his career.
Also Damn i never knew you had that kind of upbringing... I've watched quite a few of your videos now and you just seem so... Pure. Very genuine and kind. Usually you can get a feel at least a LITTLE if someone has experienced shit in their life so I never would've guessed you went through the things you went through as a kid.
Biggest reason I'm commenting this is I just want to applaud you AND say thank you. It's incredibly rare to see someone who went through what you went through and come through it still able to be a person that personifies kindness, gentleness, seemingly unweighed by baggage, and give so many smiles. Eminem put his darkest thoughts he had at that time in this song as a way to cope with all the madness and drama he was going through mentally. It is dark, but everyone who been through shit has had those thoughts. I respect he had the courage to make the song and even share it with the world, showing us his dark side and pain. That itself takes courage. Even though you may find it somewhat disurbing to listen to, you gotta respect that he still shared it to deal with it in a way he otherwise maybe couldnt have dealt with it.

I have listened to this song exactly TWICE in my entire life - the first back in the early 2000's when I listened to the whole MMLP for the first time, and then again a few months ago when I watched a reaction channel do a full album reaction to MMLP. Both times it put me incredibly on edge, made my teeth physically ache, and I swore to myself that I'd never listen to it again... both times. Yet, here I am. There are other songs - like Drips - that I just don't like, mostly because they get far too graphic with the noises, the slurping, that stuff. This is the one that I actively dislike for the lyrical content and just how wrong the whole song is.
Chris has rapidly become one of (and likely my number one currently) my favorite Eminem reactors, and seeing him go on this journey... well, here we go, brace for physical discomfort for a 3rd time.

The emotion in his voice shows how deep his feelings were and gives me chills. I'm not saying if he should've made this song public or not but this is one of the most raw eminem songs i've ever heard. Especially after recent events in my life (not as bad as Em's) this song has made a lot more sense to me. I'd never do anything like this in a million years but I feel like I can relate to the anger on some level

This is the only song of Em's I don't listen to because my abusive ex played it on repeat when he was drunk- and by repeat i mean hours and hours of it on a loop. I'm in a way better place now and that was 2 decades ago- yet I still had to turn the volume off before commenting. It's crazy how music can affect us even unexpectedly.

I appreciate the artistic value of it - the vocal performance of the various characters (but especially just the pure rage and passion from his POV), the storytelling, etc. And I can appreciate that at the time, this kind of creative outlet was probably the therapy Em needed to save him from going down darker roads in real life. But man, the content of this one is a rough one for me to take, and I’m one of those walking “I put on a serial killer documentary to calm my nerves and go to sleep” memes. 🤷♀️😂
You took this ALOT better than I thought mate and credit to you, I remember the first time I heard this as a teen I was shook to the core and it's still probably the only Eminem song that has no replay value to me personally, it's just an assault on the senses and I have to give him credit for making it as powerful as it is. As others have explained in the comments, yeah there was lawsuits involved etc...
Now, for some ear eraser I suggest something more light hearted from Slim Shady for the next song like "97 Bonnie & Clyde" it was off his first major album called The Slim Shady LP, this song is sort of an extension and was off his second major The Marshall Mathers LP.
After this album dropped, he performed this in concert with Kim in present, although she made him promise not to sing it. When he sang the song, she left frustrated and went home and slit her wrists and survived.
“Stan” it’s an amazing song not just beacause of the outstanding lyrics but also because of the painful vision that EM got of himself, as someone who had been in an extremely dark part of himself and shared all this thoughts and acts through the lyrics, what had a bad effect in lots of fans who saw that dark place as something cool or possible for the first time.
EM recognize that Stan acts are sort of side effects of the bad inspirations and influences shared through songs like “Kim”
Eminem is amazing, and I'm glad I was there and had the chance to follow his start of his career, because his early music, Slim Shady LP and Marshal Mathers LP, I recommend anyone who has dealt with depression or other hard things in life to listen to his voice and what he says in those songs, because Eminem really blew up because of the honesty that people could hear from him, and at the time when you deal with hard things yourself, his voice and words and how you could relate to his emotions, it all really helped with your own depression, to such degree that I listened to his songs whole days one after the other, and to this day those times listening to him helped me feel a lot better.
Easily one of the darkest songs he's made & the fact that you stuck through it (which a lot of reaction channels won't do) makes me respect you all the more mate.
His darker songs make you understand/respect who he's grown into as an artist as he's progressed

Man Kim used to be the taboo song my friends lured me in with. My parents got me the censored version of the album and I only knew of Kim from my buddy's uncensored cd. Think had I to be around 13-14 and this song felt so wrong to listen to, which has always cemented it into my brain.
But the song Kids on the censored version was good tho 😂

@@AloneInThePark went back and edited the comment 😂 the censored version. In replace of the song Kim was a song called The Kids. Took inspiration from South Park based on the voices he used in that song. It’s actually pretty funny.
@@TropicalHat420 didn’t realized I wrote uncensored in my message. 😂 went back and changed it. But it was a classic on its own and not a lot of people know about it. I was a freshman in high school when this album came out so when I bought the cd on my own I didn’t realize it was the censored version until I started listening to it. But I kept it and when I got more money from my job I got the uncensored version and that’s when I heard Kim. Crazy times it was. Glad I grew up in the 90s and 2000s when it was all happening.

This originally wasn't a song that I liked, but I came to appreciate it with time. I look at it as a form of therapy that helped him express the raw emotions he was clearly feeling at the time. It's such a raw expression of emotions, which is what I appreciate about it.

Sadly many times it’s a cycle and history repeats itself. You have to break the cycle. I used to listen to this top volume in my bedroom when I was like 13
He has sung this song once in a concert. He told Kim he wasn’t going to do it, but he did and she tried to “unalive” herself that night and he never done it again and hated this song. Kim sued him for this song and for the sequel 97 Bonnie and Clyde.
He never preformed Kim live at a show.

Maybe the third time I´m hearing that song. Big big Eminem fan but this song is haunting for me. All the pain, deception and anger is so raw. You feel it all with him. Always a skip when listening to mmlp. Great storytelling tho. You should do Bad husband next. :)

When I got this album as a kid (I know, right? :D But I didn't understand a lot back then - was just starting to learn english), and listened to it from beginning to end countless times, this song became a skip for me after the first couple of times. I've started to listen to it a few times in the last... maybe 5 years, and it actually became a good one to come back to, for me. I appreciate the art of it, the movie-like quality, Em's acting (even if it's veeeery heavily inspired by his true mindstate of that time, so it was probably not that hard of an acting job :D), and the MUSIC. I love the "beat" actually.
