Dear Tom, you don't know how grateful am I to you. Ever since I've started to practise speaking English, I've been following you. The little bit that I Learnt so far, major part of that is your contribution. Warm Thanks.
I am from Saudi Arabia ... I always follow you and have benefited a lot from you ... You are wonderful in proposing topics, easy explanation, montage and simplification of information from the best TH-cam channels, grateful to you 🙏💜
Such an exquisite video. Thanks a lot Tom!!! You just teach from the bottom of your heart, completely naturally. You've helped me and everyone incredibly!
In Spanish .youhave Casa Rosada, the Argentinian goverment location, in Italian: il Quirinale/ where the Italian president lives, Palazzo Madama where there is a camera of PM .When you have some spare time please compare the GB political system to the French, Italian and the Spanish one.Great video, I like metonyms and acronyms. Lol.
@@adamwlodarczyk8336 In actual fact there are three buildings for govenment ministers: Palazzo Madama, Montecitorio, palazzo Chigi. As i said the Quirinale is the palace where the president lives and has international political meetings
You're right Adam Wlodarczyk 👌, it's Palazzo Chigi. Palazzo Madama is the seat of the Senate while Montecitorio is the seat of the Chamber of Deputies. Senate + Chamber of Deputies = Parliament not Government ☺
What a wonderful video, Tom. 😊 Anyway, my memory is not the best at all 😂 but I've caught the meaning of every word and I can also say that I've already met a pair of them 😍. See you to the next video😊😘
Hi Tom, Thanks for your channel. Could you please comment on the pronunciation of 'Westminster'. You and (and the bloke on the tube) put the stress on the second syllable. I would have thought that one more often hear the stress on the first i.e. /ˈwes(t)mɪnstə/.
Hi^^ So interesting and very much useful!😍 This is why I love your channel!! Such kind of “Metonyms” sometimes can not be found in a dictionary-so called “English-Japanese” dictionary. 😥Thank you very much!!😍
Actually, if you use Silicon Valley in the US, people assume you are talking about the general area in California where those industries are. We don't think "tech industry". We think "horribly expensive place to live/ridiculous traffic/you'll be sorry you accepted that job there".
Surprised all your examples were Metanyms where the place represented the things associated with that place. There can be other types of metanyms as well.
Synonym is a word similar in meaning to another word or term for example: Answer and Respond/Reply. Metonym is a word or concept you use to describe something assiociated with that thing or concept for example: instead of saying The Defense Department and Defense Offices in the USA you say The Pentagon and everyone will/should know what you are talking about. Another example: "Hand"- you say Can you give me a Hand? instead of saying Please Help me/I need help. Hope that helped.

I am Canadian trying to improve my English believe it or not and I am of British origin through granny. Hollywood is another one of those metonyms.
The breakthrough for Mark Wahlberg was is role in the movie about San Fernando Valley industry.
Can you make a video about the English of Paloma Faith?

Hi Tom , Great lesson , I think a metonin could be America for US , because America is the continent from northern Canada to southern Patagonia .
Sometimes in the video you the plural (the Kremlin are...) and sometimes the singular (Number 10 is...) - what should it be?
Is it also called as synonyms??

Heyyy😁
Metonym for Congress is 'The Swamp'.
You used a metonym at the start of the video...
"I was on the tube the other day..."
I only guessed Silicon valley lool. Well here they say Montecitorio, it's supposed to be the italian parliament. The worst side of Italy lol
Tom, you just are pretend to be Brit, you gesticulate like Italian! hihi
Everybody in the UK knows what the Home Office means.
💙💙💙
Wow, I thought Fleet Street was your financial district.
“Meth” ? 😅
“SAY MY NAME !!!” 😎
Is it just me or he really looks like Johnny Bairstow....
Why do you say "Scotland Yard are investigating" instead of "Scotland Yard is investigating"?
Best wishes from Mexico.
