At first it can be confusing how to play these games but in this video I explain the different types of rom sets, and how each set works for the emulator associated with it. Using Hakchi CE you can finally bring those games you loved to play in the arcade into your home!

@@PattonPlays I don't think there's any reason to do that. But after watching the videos that you've been making about the Genesis mini and the latest version of hakchi, it's helped me go in and streamline my NES Classic. I still need to update my SNES Classic, but it's kind of a pain in the ass going back in and remapping the button configuration. Haha! I wanted to ask. Is your German Shepherd a male or a female? It's a nice looking pup.

Yeah don't count on it. The hardware isn't strong enough to handle it. But the Sega CD and PSP version both run pretty well.

Hi, firstly thanks for your awesome channel. Your tutorials are easy to understand and you have a great speaking voice. I'm a huge retro gaming fan so thanks for helping me hack my Minis and add games for different systems, configure menus and add more storage via a flash drive. I bought an 8-button controller and an octopus adaptor so I can still have 2 players. Could you let me know if Raiden 2 (arcade) is playable on a Mini?

I've been having troubles when trying to play mega man power battle because it says INSERT COIN at the bottom so I can't get it to work, any tips?
I have a problem with Shinobi arcade version game in that the sound is chunky like or should I say I hear static which I'm using MAME2014 which lets me play the game but like I said, the sound is very static like. I tried using MAME2010 and it didn't play as well as Mame2003 Extreme and Mame 2003 Plus. What or could you figure this out to which core would let the game play as well as the music being smooth sounding? Otherwise all my other games are working just fine with the exception to this specific game. Any solutions of what I should do. I did adjust the Latency which made the static go away to some extent. What should I do? Or which core would work the best for this title.?
Like to add that I have a Sega Mini system and I use my PS4 controller to play it and it does work just fine. Don't use the analog though as it will boot you onto retroarch XMB screen. But yes the PS4 controller does work on the system.
I've tried several Roma for Mortal Kombat and while the game runs fine I always have sound issues where the music continually stutters. I got the right rom set and MK2 and MK3 work flawlessly. Any tips for that? Baku Baku Animal and Bonanza Bros are two others that just run super slow, any possible tips?
So I have the Rom/emulator matching for genesis mini, only thing not working is the controller, I can’t do anything once the game is loaded. Any ideas?

I thank you for the simple explanation of the different sets. I think I'm a pretty smart guy but arcade emulation confuses me. Sure theere is documentation out there but someone verbally explaining it helps much more. Of course there are the other sets of arcade roms for Final Burn Alpha, Nebula, WinKAWAKS...you get the idea. Is there any channel that explains all these simply? Maybe you for future projects? The TG-16 Mini will be out soon but I'm thinking in maybe 2021, we're not going to see many Mini consoles, if any.
No problem. Thank bslenul, he's the one that gave me idea to go over them. I'm not sure about any other channels that specialize in it but I'm sure there's probably something out there. I think the attention has moved from the mini consoles and is moving toward the home arcade market with Arcade 1up, AtGames Legends Ultimate, and the iiRcade. So you are probably right that we may not see as many moving forward. it'll give me a chance to catch up :p
Is this like the Super Nintendo classic console where if you want the arcade Roms to run smoother that you have to overclock the mini or would you be able to play the games flawlessly on the Genesis mini without doing so

So I installed an arcade game in my Genesis Mini but I can't seem to edit the control. I'm stuck on the --- parts.

hit the reset button to get to the retroarch menu the first time. That worked for me anyways
I cant seem to get sega arcade game roms to work like spiderman outrun or golden axe death adder to work. But get konami and capcom games like xmen simpson and cadalics and dinosaurs work no prob worh the as is methods

I have a few questions for the Guru..
1. Does the 8BitDo PS Classic receiver with DS4 controller work on the Genesis Mini with the stock UI and Retroarch?
2. When you launch for example a Mame rom from the stock UI, how many steps does it take to get back to the stock UI from Retroarch when you quit the game? Does simply closing the content return to the stock UI or are you stuck within Retroarch unless you quit?
3. Does Hakchi allow you to use the stock Japanese Mega Drive UI in English like it does in Project Lunar?

1. I do not know sorry, I can only advise on what i have personally used or what the hacking team has tested.
2. At the moment there is not quick exit from RA. This is being worked on. I believe you can set a hotkey to exit RA back to the menu. For the time being you would close the game, back out one screen, then select quit RA.

Technically yes but it would be a bit annoying. You'd have to map the coin insert to a button and add however many credits. Then go BACK into the controls menu and change that to the 3rd action button.

Not really to do with this video, but I noticed this on a few genesis games I put on my mega drive mini. The aspect ratio seems off. Almost like the game is slightly zoomed in. Basically means it cuts off the top portion of the names on Mortal Kombat Genesis version when playing. Know of any way to fix that?
You can change the aspect ratio in the video settings in retroarch.
Hey Patton I have a problem that is not with respect to the emulators, but the control of Genesis. I accidentally misconfigured it and now when I connect the controller to play a game with Retroarch, it doesn't work for me either with the game or with the Retroarch menu and it only works with the console menu. How do I get the control to work again?
Try using a second controller to go back to the input settings. More than likely controller 1 is set to "none" and just needs to be back.
Can you use any usb controller once its modded?

Would it be better to use the SNES mini over the genesis mini for arcade games just because of SNES controller has more buttons? Will the games run better on one system than the other? Trying to decide if I should invest in new controllers for the genesis or just use my SNES mini
Both systems run the same hardware wise. The snes controller definitely gives you an advantage with it's buttons. It's really up to you if you want to use a snes or get a new controller for the Genesis. Either option works.
Can you save the button layout you want for each game? Or once you start say a 2 button game and leave for say a 6 button game do you have to remap when going back to a 2 button game?
Nevermind I figured out how to do it.
Hope someone can help me with this: I just took my "back-up" Genesis Mini and attempted to turn it into a curated MAME machine. The machine powers up fine, the menu boots up, and all the games with their box art and descriptions display properly. The controller moves around the menu and selects options fine. Boot up a game, and it appears to work, however, the controller is not mapped properly for MAME, and inputs yield no results. Then I cannot access the Retro Arch menu to map the buttons. I hit reset - nothing. I hold reset and then release - nothing.
Here's where it gets weird.
I turned the power switch off to try and reboot and start over: the system won't turn off! It keeps running the demo of whichever game was selected until I pull the USB cable out of the back.
I'll list the steps I took below and hopefully someone far more experienced than I am can tell me what I did wrong. All of this was done in Hakchi2 CE 3.8.
1) Installed Retro Arch and MAME 2003 Plus
2) Added about 20 games taken from a Full Non-Merged MAME 0.78 set which said it was for use with 2003 Plus. All games were zipped and added using the "As Is" function to avoid any issues with the archive.
3) All games automatically paired with MAME 2003 plus, as seen in the command line for each game.
4) Total space used was approximately 152 out of the allotted 157 MB of space on the mini.
5) Disabled pages/folders so that all 20 games would simply display on the main page together.
6) Powered down the system, reconnected the power to the outlet, turned it on.
7) Stared in confusion as the problems arose.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! My son is desperate to play now that he saw the TMNT arcade art being imported :(
I'm able to get into the retro arch menu by quick hit to reset, but it's not able to select left and right for the control mapping. Using MAME 2014

I added more games but now I can't get full screen anymore I have those two side borders even when I put my settings to full friend will still have those borders is there a way to fix it?

Im having a hard time finding the right rom set for it. No matter which one I seem to install every time I start the game it just takes me back to the main menu on my Genesis

I try to add games like Marvel vs Capcom or other Capcom games. One problem, they show up as Qsound. Any way to fix this?

Patton Plays you didn’t address this issue in this video. When i go to grab Marvel vs capcom it turns the file name into Q sound for the rom. It wont let you change it either i tried it for 2 different games and it immediately changed the names to Q sound. Im stuck

Does the scrape function also work for Arcade games? For example to scrape game infirmation,number of players,Publisher,....

It's done exactly the same on the SNES Mini.

I finally got around to it and many of the same you demoed don't work, for example, sfa3. They always go back to the main screen. I do have a merged set as a base and I did convert to full non-merged set using clrmamepro and none of the cores worked. My set is 0.217 so I'm not sure if that is the problem. They work on PC no problem. Some do. Simpsons and Bad Dudes do. I think I'll have to stick with PC. All of them work there. Maybe a future KM core will work.
What core are you using?
@@PattonPlays I've used all available km-mame and even tried some fb-alpha.
I recommend getting the mame 0.78 set and use those games with the mame2003 core. Very simple and no issues.
