RO2 was so great, I still listen to the soundtrack and remember some moments of the game. No game has even given me as many chills as RO2, brilliant game
RO2 remains my most played game on Steam to this day. That game was practically my life in my young adulthood. I was super involved in the community, moderated the Tripwire forums, and I was even involved in the development of the Heroes of the West mod. Good times.

Blenhiem reminds me of an experience I had on a very difficult game one time. I had just got off work from a 12 hour shift and bought a game called MX bikes. Well I played single player and couldn’t figure anything out so I went to multiplayer after installing the bike mods. That’s where I ran into an extremely patient guy who happened to be streaming. He literally spent like 6 hours just teaching me while streaming how to stay up and ride the dirtbikes around the track. Showed me his settings, got in a discord call and just let a stranger on his stream that had like 200 something viewers. That experience and his patience is one of the only reasons I was able to even learn that game with being in my 20s I tend to give up easier on games like that. But having someone being kind and encouraging you to keep going is a super cool experience in a game you’re new to. Unfortunately my internet went out and I never added that person and haven’t spoke to them again which is sad but super cool experience regardless.
Theres something so humble about seeing small communities still playing a game regardless if its dead just because they genuinely love the game. They are so welcoming and truly want others to experience the same feeling they have for their favorite game. Gives me chills really..
I was just watching the video, checking out the bit about RS2 and then realized you used my footage of the really trippy map. I am absolutely flabbergasted that you used my footage lol. Thanks for making the video, I love RS2 and still play pretty frequently.
Rye, I really and in all honesty have to express how much I like your vids. The presentation is good, your voiceover is high quality, the script works very well and you always manage to show some interesting games with a lot of background. A few months ago you popped up in my feed for the 1st time and I've been a fan ever since. When I notice a new upload, it just makes the day better because they're always wholesome and bittersweet. You bring kindness to the gamingweb and you show all of us how much kindness there is to be found in places you would not expect. I don't know any other channel that's as wholesome as yours. Thank you.

@@Haarglatzman it has like 3-400 players, the company that made it no longer exists, it hasn't been updated in years, and half the servers redirect to the crappy mega server, games dead bro
Rising Storm 2 was the game that got me through the pandemic. A friend mentioned it randomly a day after lockdowns and that began a group that grew very close over the following months. It was nice to see this and re-live some memories that were forgotten. Thanks!
Oh man Rising Storm 2 was such a fun game. it a bummer to see it in a video. I remember when the news of abandonment came out. it really was tough news.
Being able to run while crouched is honestly a pretty genius mechanic for a more tactical shooter like rising storm 2. Having more control over your characters movement speed at all times is important in that type of game and that system is a lot more easily understood from the instant visual feedback of seeing your character swing their arms than something like scrolling to change speed in tarkov
I'd not fret too much lol they probably play more modern stuff in between matches. I go back and visit my first MMO Asheron's Call fairly regularly but I also play plenty of modern games.
I really love how with the dystopia people you showed up and made their day; they will remember this as the last time they were in a big game with a ton of players. They've only been able to get 5 or so people together and you could tell they were immediately so excited to play. It was so sweet 🥺
I only recently have found your videos, but I absolutely adore how positive your videos are, even when dealing with poorly reviewed games. Even when a game is clearly janky or unpolished, you never outright tear it apart and give it an honest go with the intention of actually understanding it. I can't tell you how much I love that, especially in an era of ragebait where people are often rallied against games by grifters with no honest intentions. Interacting with the community to understand the culture that has formed behind these tiny games adds so much that's often left unsaid, and I think you really go above and beyond in all of your videos. Thank you for making this kind of content.
Hey Rye, just hopped in to your channel and I didn't realized that I'm stuck here for almost 3hrs. I like your content, you've created such a good content and entertaining.. brings some memories and life lessons that nothing last forever. I don't see any games as I used to be now but some of your vids brings back how it was feels like. Thank you.
this is INCREDIBLE commentary. it feels unique on the internet to see actually fun, community encouraging, FRIENDLY people being cool to each other. thanks for sharing!
There is a heli range to practice in the boot camp section of the menu. For most it tends to be easier to fly with "advanced flight model" turned off since it gives you more control. I also find using only buttons and never touching the mouse besides to free look to be easier as well.
A lot of what you do in this series is war-themed shooters. If you're looking for something else, and you already have Games for Windows Live installed, then consider Lost Planet 2 multiplayer
I think the reason there’s so many war-themed shooters in his videos is because there are A LOT of them out there, like an over abundance, thats why they die quickly. Everyone wants that cod and battlefield money
Well to a point you are right, but these videos are about the community of holdouts and milsims and shooters require multiplayer so that is what is featured. Sims specifically have the highest percentage of hardcore emotionally invested fans which loops around to why they feature so prominantly in these videos. What I want to see is Rye play some Myth II on Mariusnet.
It is such a good game. They never made a campaign, and I think it was it's main downfall. Even a short one, would have made it more popular. Rushed out, and forgotten too soon.
It wasn't a good game by itself and neither was it worthy of the Shadowrun license, total uninspired shitshow with only one thing worthy of note: it had Xbox to PC crossplay Mouthbreathers with Doritodust on their Gamepads played minigun using Trolls and they all got killed by me using a Pistol as a manloving despiction of a Decker Elf Nothing of this was worth the millions it cost to make and the game bombed
@@bozokreso5555 He had a few moments near the end where I think he lost sight of his own word. The whole Coxcon thing was disappointing. But that was a man not long for the world in a stressful situation undergoing horrific treatments. I can understand.
These videos are less about how good or bad the games are and way more about the community around the games. Knowing people ply thousands of hours into these games and are still happy to help new players and remember players who they’ve lost is super interesting and kind of inspiring
I still have vivid memories of Aces High 3. I specifically remember a time when a large force of enemy bombers supported by fighters were headed towards my teams main base, so we scrambled fighters to meet them and we had an epic battle in the skies. I think it ended up being inconclusive but it was a ton of fun
I been part of the ACES High community for 20yrs now started back in High School and you meet some great guys your skill level doesn’t matter we all play just to have fun and I love it
I wish I had a pc around when rising storm 2 Vietnam had a high player base, I’m happy I got to play a few matches and do hop on occasionally. I didn’t know jeff on a personal level but may he R.I.P
In the early 2000s there was a very popular halflife mod called "the specialists". We had a very active forum and community. One of the highly active members, Jan Aarve Malmin, aka JAM, khs at probably like 14-16ish. For the rest of the life of the TS forums, every member had a RIP JAM signature image. Rip Jeff, RIP JAM
That was such a special time to be on the internet. I remember being a kid, maybe 11 years old, and begging my mother to donate money to a fund for the funeral of a Mount and Blade community member. Someone whose real name I never knew, someone I never saw the face of, but someone I would dutifully log on to a server to play with and follow into battle every Sunday night. His account is still on my Steam friends list more than a decade later. RIP JAM, RIP Jeff, and RIP Karth
I remember the CS map maker Noone? I think? he made the original cs_siege map. I always heard he'd khs. Anyway, The Specialists and Action Half-Life were such amazing fun back in my early teen years. there was another one called The Opera that never caught traction, but it had a weird singleplayer mode that I played quite a bit of.
@ataridc MookMatch haha. TS and AHL both had pretty decent bot setups too. Old half life mods are the best. I still have the install files for all my favorites on an external. Every major release of TS, The Ship, HL2JKS, etc
@@thesilliestclown yeah it was amazing. I always say Half-Life was my gaming system from 1999 to around 2003. Original CS beta, TFC, Natural Selection, there was one called Frontline Force, I honestly can't remember them all. I still go check for new singleplayer HL mods every few years just so I have an excuse to revisit. edit: Another thing I remember is every other person being named "Vash the Stampede" or some variation.
Red Orchestra is such a legendary game. I really hope they make a 3rd one. That game has by far the best shooting mechanics I have ever played. Even if you are doing bad the game is absurdly fun just because of how satisfying it is when you actually land a shot
I played on the Rising Storm Vietnam server (in the same match and same team and even same squad 2:54) with 3 friends of mine and its interesting to see what backstory the server has. Rest in peace Jeff
I got this video randomly in my recommendations, and I'm glad I watched it. It's always nice to see the people who are passionate enough about a game to keep it going even after all official support has dried up. We all forget it sometimes, but every video game is someone's favorite, no matter what anyone else thinks about it.
What you’re doing with this kind of video is awesome man. So much nostalgia seeing those games up there. As a kid I had many long school nights spent playing RO1 until my dad came up to my room to yell at me to go to bed. Haha. Back when there were tons of full servers to play on. The battles were amazing. RO2 had a lot of hype built up around how realistic it was going to be. I was so stoked when it came out and grinded it like crazy, one of my favorite all time games. Truly cinematic and unscripted, orchestrated chaos. Never experienced a game like it since.
Edit: I wrote this before watching where he mentioned MEGA. Sorry for the repeated info but it's still a good reminder I suppose It really is. There's always a couple full servers so if anyone is thinking about trying it out it's worth it. A tip for new players, do NOT join "MEGA" servers. They're malicious and use fake player counts and have been known to install malware, though I'm not sure if that's still an issue. I mistakenly joined one once and it forced to join their discord server which proceeded to soft lock my PC. LMC gaming and PR gaming are my favorite servers that are usually full.
Your tone and chillness reminds me of Willjum lol. Love this series, love your outlook on things, love your donated and takes to time to learn local lore to each games. You've got a new subscriber:)
Your videos are fantastic. I've said this before but it's awesome to get this perspective and experience even if vicariously through you. Blenheim is my kinda guy. An absolute LEGEND! We need more Blenheim's in gaming these days... for sure!
I'd love to see you try Forgotten Hope 2. It's a ww2 sim mod project based on battlefield 2 and it's still being actively developed. I've played a ton of it and it still has a pretty healthy small community of maybe around 100-200 players
HH being hulk Hogan was definitely not the turn I was expecting, they might wanna update that cuz otherwise ppl might think they talking about a German dictator
Random comment no one asked for but ever since I found your channel...I think a year or so ago? Being so lonely these wholesome videos gave me rushes of nostalgia for games I never played; I don't know how that's possible. Maybe it's the old graphics or the BGM selection but always love these types of videos. Thank you for making these incredible videos and for inadvertently making me feel a little less alone during my watch.
A channel I really like to watch is Wiljum who does Rust stuff. He's sort of just like telling a story of his time in these games and its cool to follow along. I feel like the vibe is super similar.
Not fixing a voice chat from a game after abandoning it is probably the most horrible thing to do to it... They could at least have fixed that❤💙💛 Greetings from Germany
so many of these games had such amazing communities, they were so friendly and welcoming, just enjoying life in their little niche corners of the online gaming world. i can imagine when these games were more popular these groups were the best to be in, and it kinda hurts to see them dwindling like this. these guys are so sweet to new players it makes me cry man.
Just discovered this channel and love the series. I appreciate the respect you show for the different games and communities and those folks who still find joy in the smaller dead games.
The biggest thing I've learned about a lot of the games that are more dead including games I still play from time to time, the community is typically super welcoming and will do what they can to teach you about the game they're passionate about. Beyond that they'll and up being people you'll be friends with beyond just the game
Great video. The part about Gary's Incident made me a little sad and nostalgic, hearing TB's voice again after so long. :) Also, if 14:00 isn't a Jingles Landing i don't know what is!
As a German who is used to hearing the acronym 'HH' as a Nazi salute, standing for 'Heil Hitler', it always feels strange to hear it and not think that they are Nazi sympathizers. Just to be clear, I don't want to accuse Jeff of anything; I just want to point out that phrases like 'HH Brother' can be very easily misunderstood. With that being said, RIP Jeff.
I really don't look forward to many videos when it comes to TH-cam but I just wanna say these videos always have me clicking them. They are always worth the watch. Keep up the great content man.
Makes me sad seeing all these people that love these older games that don't get any attention anymore. Makes me nostalgic for games I've played in the past that are gone. It's kind of hard to watch... very bittersweet.
Hearing TB again after a couple years really hit me. I used to go back and watch some of the co optional podcast videos. He created an amazing legacy fighting for us, the consumers of games, against corporate greed. Gaming journalism would not be the same without him. RIP
man... i remember being in closed alpha for rs2 Vietnam and playing with the devs. they were as passionate as they were kind. and the community are, to say the least... extremely dedicated to the faction they play.
Just wanna take the time and thank you for making this channel it really helped me thro a dark time (still dark, working on it tho), and i hope you have a great day Rye.
I remember seeing an article in a gaming magazine about that Shadowrun game when I was a kid. Couldn't wait for it to come out. Don't remember why I never got to play it, but it is really cool to see people playing it now. I did get to play a Shadowrun game eventually, but it was nothing like I was expecting after seeing that one. lol
I will always love little games with really small but cool communities. I saw that with day of defeat source a few years ago when its high pop its just a bunch of people chilling in servers talking gives me old cod vibes but not as toxic.
Even though I play Hell Let Loose now, not always because of busy schedules, Rising Storm 2 Vietnam is still my favorite game. Played from 2017 up to 2022. This game got me through the lockdowns during covid. Also played at lot on the Hardcore gaming server. I miss it and I also hope '83 the game gets pushed through.
I remember playing the Rising Storm 2 beta when I was just 13, fell in love with the game and put hundreds of hours in before I stopped playing just recently, at 20 years old….this game will always hold a place in my heart
This video perfectly captures the spirit of gaming for me. New setting, new people to meet. its like a nat geo documentary on niche games and their communities.
13:15 oh man a blast from the past - played this from my tweens through highschool 15 years ago. I miss it greatly, community was 2,000+ strong, titanic tuesday events etc. Many of those players in your chat logs have been playing easily for 15-20 years, I still remember them all from my time playing. In my opinion Aces High is the best combat flight sim game for WWI/ WWII. Period. Warthunder doesn't even come close. The community is extremely patient and like to help newbies, we all had to learn at some point. Difficult to play and extremely hard to master, but it's so much fun. The major reason why it has died out is two hold, one is because of the difficulty, many people don't want to spend the time and master Aces high. The other is the subscription of $15 a month. The CEO has made it very clear he doesn't like nickel and dimeing players with microtransactions like Warthunder does. I can see that perspective and respect it, glad that the servers are still alive. To anyone who still plays Tinkles was my handle . @(^..^)@
Rising Storm 2 was a FANTASTIC shooter, one of my favorite MP FPS games of all time and I had so many incredible sessions on it. seeing it described as a dead game genuinely saddened me
Man, Dystopia was so amazing when it first came out, pretty much the first big source total conversion mod. Spent so many hours playing dys_vaccine over and over when that was the only map in the game, to the point I recognized it instantly when you guys started playing it in your footage even though I haven't seen it in almost two decades.

HH brother
Gary's incident and the total biscuit debacle hit me with a wave of nostalgia.
Monetised! Still available to watch. Monetised!...
R.I.P Total Biscuit, gone but not forgotten ❤
Theres something so humble about seeing small communities still playing a game regardless if its dead just because they genuinely love the game. They are so welcoming and truly want others to experience the same feeling they have for their favorite game. Gives me chills really..
>he says "soccer"

I was just watching the video, checking out the bit about RS2 and then realized you used my footage of the really trippy map. I am absolutely flabbergasted that you used my footage lol. Thanks for making the video, I love RS2 and still play pretty frequently.
The hands from the ground reminded me of silent hill
Rye, I really and in all honesty have to express how much I like your vids.
The presentation is good, your voiceover is high quality, the script works very well and you always manage to show some interesting games with a lot of background.
A few months ago you popped up in my feed for the 1st time and I've been a fan ever since. When I notice a new upload, it just makes the day better because they're always wholesome and bittersweet.
You bring kindness to the gamingweb and you show all of us how much kindness there is to be found in places you would not expect.
I don't know any other channel that's as wholesome as yours. Thank you.
Just found his channel today and am loving his content 👍
seeing RS2:Vietnam on here hurts. Not undeserved, but it hurts. Love that game.
Its not dead bro
@@Haarglatzman It's had no official updates and everyone who plays it will get tired of playing the same 5 TE maps and getting rolled in the busted campaign mode for only so long. Only a very few select type of autistic people like me and the 100 other people who find any sort of enjoyment in that will stick around, and for all intents and purposes, this makes the game dead.
@@Haarglatzman it has like 3-400 players, the company that made it no longer exists, it hasn't been updated in years, and half the servers redirect to the crappy mega server, games dead bro

Had fun showing you the ropes in Dystopia, Rye!
Hope to see you around again sometime! : )
Blenheim sounds like an oldschool internet guy, i see that alot on SoF2 when i play that occasionally, lots of old dudes in their 50-60s chillaxing
Thanks for the videos. You honor the legacy of those dead games.

I remember when the news of abandonment came out. it really was tough news.
devs are done with it but its def not dead
@@igiveup12 its dead
Far from dead bro
Being able to run while crouched is honestly a pretty genius mechanic for a more tactical shooter like rising storm 2. Having more control over your characters movement speed at all times is important in that type of game and that system is a lot more easily understood from the instant visual feedback of seeing your character swing their arms than something like scrolling to change speed in tarkov
Bro your videos make me so very sad. Seeing these dead games with 2-3 people playing is heatbreaking, the loneliness and nostalgia are paupable.
I'd not fret too much lol they probably play more modern stuff in between matches. I go back and visit my first MMO Asheron's Call fairly regularly but I also play plenty of modern games.
Rye; "Ost" is the German word for "East", it isn't an acronym. "Ostfront" just means "Eastern front".

I have also seen that message on that server and always wondered who jeff was. Rip man.
Rising Storm 2 was my main jam back in the of around 2019 or so. Was practically the only game I played around that period of time
I really love how with the dystopia people you showed up and made their day; they will remember this as the last time they were in a big game with a ton of players.
Thank you.
this is INCREDIBLE commentary. it feels unique on the internet to see actually fun, community encouraging, FRIENDLY people being cool to each other. thanks for sharing!
so weird hearing TB's voice again. miss that guy always watched his videos
ohh man rising storm 2 came to the list, i still did not learn how to fly the chopper after all these years
It's easy, ya just never land it 😂
There is a heli range to practice in the boot camp section of the menu.
What I want to see is Rye play some Myth II on Mariusnet.
hearing him call it "this program called games for windows live" made me feel so old lmao
I thought Shadowrun was long dead and this video has me reinstalling it
It is such a good game. They never made a campaign, and I think it was it's main downfall. Even a short one, would have made it more popular. Rushed out, and forgotten too soon.
It wasn't a good game by itself and neither was it worthy of the Shadowrun license, total uninspired shitshow with only one thing worthy of note: it had Xbox to PC crossplay
Mouthbreathers with Doritodust on their Gamepads played minigun using Trolls and they all got killed by me using a Pistol as a manloving despiction of a Decker Elf
Nothing of this was worth the millions it cost to make and the game bombed
it looks like if halo hooked up with dishonored and had a threesome with the pistol from half life 2
dude I played troll with the speed run and a katana. it was so busted. I loved this game so much.
Poor TB. The only reviewer at the time I trusted. RIP homie.
I miss that man. He might have been wrong sometimes, but he stuck to his word.

Aces high my beloved
Yeah I mean war thunder is cool but aces high was so cool do to the open world aspect n constant battle very much the planet side 2 of flight sims
@@ataridc TFC was my first foray into online gaming. On 56k. 4995 ping every match. It was terrible fun
Red Orchestra is such a legendary game. I really hope they make a 3rd one. That game has by far the best shooting mechanics I have ever played. Even if you are doing bad the game is absurdly fun just because of how satisfying it is when you actually land a shot
Darkest Hour mod for it is a bit more alive
I played on the Rising Storm Vietnam server (in the same match and same team and even same squad 2:54) with 3 friends of mine and its interesting to see what backstory the server has. Rest in peace Jeff

Only halfway through, this series just keeps getting better and better man!
26:56 i love that you donate to the little servers that's cool
Dude, you donating to the two servers you played on was awesome.
The rest of the video was great too, but that was really chill.

I got this video randomly in my recommendations, and I'm glad I watched it. It's always nice to see the people who are passionate enough about a game to keep it going even after all official support has dried up. We all forget it sometimes, but every video game is someone's favorite, no matter what anyone else thinks about it.
ty for covering Dystopia and putting up some cash for our lil community tournament.
God the "HH brother" had we real worried for a second. Glad you clarified the meaning there lol
Same, especially considering a lot of the “newer” player base of RS2 are extremely racist
@@dookiepostRS2’s had issues with a highly racist playerbase since roundabout 2019.
@@dookiepostisn't it a Vietnam war game? Usually those types stick to "historical WW2 games". Again, for purely historical reasons of course :^)
Jeff sounded like a cool guy. HH brother.
Rising storm 2 is so much fun, just pure chaos. Shame the player base gets smaller and smaller by day.
Edit: I wrote this before watching where he mentioned MEGA. Sorry for the repeated info but it's still a good reminder I suppose
It really is.

Yeah it’s clear the devs never really cared after launch. There are game breaking bugs that have existed since launch
12:26 that looks like the intro into a game of Temple Run from like 2013
Rising storm Vietnam 2 being on this list hurts my soul on a deep level.
so many of these games had such amazing communities, they were so friendly and welcoming, just enjoying life in their little niche corners of the online gaming world. i can imagine when these games were more popular these groups were the best to be in, and it kinda hurts to see them dwindling like this. these guys are so sweet to new players it makes me cry man.
I played so much Shadowrun back in the day. I loved that game and all the different builds you could make!
Just discovered this channel and love the series. I appreciate the respect you show for the different games and communities and those folks who still find joy in the smaller dead games.
always good to see a new video from you man!! great vid so far
The biggest thing I've learned about a lot of the games that are more dead including games I still play from time to time, the community is typically super welcoming and will do what they can to teach you about the game they're passionate about. Beyond that they'll and up being people you'll be friends with beyond just the game
Go say rest in peace to Jeff.
Wasn’t expecting Rising Storm 2 Vietnam that game was awesome, Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm 1 are also amazing and had even more content.
RIP Jeff
I don’t know why but that retro type music you play as you change game actually is my stress relief sound
Great video. The part about Gary's Incident made me a little sad and nostalgic, hearing TB's voice again after so long. :)
Also, if 14:00 isn't a Jingles Landing i don't know what is!
With that being said, RIP Jeff.
i know its wrong but this made me laugh a lot more than it should
The server is full of quite a few 4-Chan users, so your theory probably isn't as wrong as you think.

Seeing 2 games I loved, red orchestra and rising storm, in one of your videos is surreal. I remember when both of those games were new and "popular"
13:00 no? No, not really. I mean...laughingcancerman is dead and the devs aren't, so...

These videos are great. I’m super casual and probably won’t play the bulk of these games, but this channel is always good.
New setting, new people to meet. its like a nat geo documentary on niche games and their communities.
the footage of Shadowrun gives me such nostalgia. it was my mate's favourite game at the time so we played it a lot. I miss those early 360 days
These small communities made me happy! Love to see it
Rising Storm 2 was a FANTASTIC shooter, one of my favorite MP FPS games of all time and I had so many incredible sessions on it. seeing it described as a dead game genuinely saddened me

I played shadow run as a kid and totally forgot it existed until now, completely unlocked a memory
