I’m sporting the 12. I wanted something a little bigger, they make a quality pack for sure. My first one was an AONIJIE 12 L, I think and as a starter pack it’s a pretty solid. If price isn’t an option Salomon all the way!
Totally! I bought the 12 three years ago and I still plan on using it for really long runs when I need to carry extra gear/kit. I found that for the most part, I wasn't using it to the full capacity and really just needed it for extra water and a few pockets for convenience. So I opted to get the new 5 and I've really been enjoying it! Thanks for watching the video!
Nice review! I have one on the way now. I currently use the Camelbak Octane Dart. I knew that it wasn’t really for running, but ordered it a couple of years ago anyway to try to cut costs. It chafes my neck and hurts my shoulders so much! It is fine for hiking, but so unpleasant for running. Very much looking forward to the Salomon vest - your review helped me decide. Also, the scenery in your video looks incredible! I bet that it’s a great place to run.
Good stuff! That was the main thing I was trying to research was the bouncing...especially with the water bottles. Do you feel that isn't a huge factor? Thanks for any info
I feel that it does great at not bouncing (at least if size right). I've used this vest for plenty of trail runs, including a few ultras. I'm about a 38" chest and wear a size medium.
It's hard to say without actually trying the vest on, but I would error on the size slightly smaller. If the vest is too large, then it will either bounce around more than is necessary and/or you'll have to cinch the front straps much tighter which may cause chafing issues on the shoulder straps near the neck.
i've heard it's difficult to find a reliable bladder/reservoir for this. I don't use reservoirs but i also bought my wife this model, but she prefers to use a reservoir. Any reservoir recommendations? But overall, this is the most comfortable and functional running vest i've used. Can't speak to the durability/longevity yet because i've only had it for a month. My previous running vests were a camelbak (still intact/functional after 8 years but not very comfortable and fairly heavy) and one from ultimate direction (4 years old; lighter than my camelbak but still heavier than nearly all modern running vests and not as comfortable, but both cinch cords holding the front water bottles have broken).
I've heard of people having issues with the Salomon bladder but I would absolutely recommend the HydraPak Velocity 1.5L bladder. I'd also recommend the HydraPak UltraFlask Speed 500ml soft flasks for you. The convenience of the speed cap is a game changer and the soft flasks are very well made! These are the products that I use on this same vest. If you decide to buy from HydraPak, use my affiliate link and discount code found here: linktr.ee/SeeChadRun
Another great video with great scenery! I felt like I was on the trail with you! Since I’m just starting out, I like the vest but what other clothes do you recommend that are reasonably priced, like shorts and shirts?
Thank you so much! As for clothes, I feel like I'm still figuring that out myself. Haha! When I first started running, I was using largely Target branded activewear which isn't bad for the price. Now I use adidas TERREX T-shirts for their breathability, moisture wicking materials, and lightweight feel. I have also been using Reebok 2-in-1 shorts. I would love to try more products and I think my next set of clothing (shorts and t-shirt/long sleeve shirt) will likely be from Dynafit. Nathan, Ultimate Direction, Salomon, fabletics, adidas, etc also make pretty good clothing (some of which I've used).
@@SeeChadRun thank you, I’ll check those brands out. Also you mentioned nutrition in this review. That would be a great video too. We all need good nutrition.
I haven't done a dedicated nutrition video (yet) but I did review 10 different brands of gels in one run. My personal go-to gels are Spring Energy (Awesome Sauce) and SiS gels. Here's the gel video: th-cam.com/video/YG5_MikROFM/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the review. The Sense Pro 5 looks similar to the ADV Skin 5. Is the main difference the ability to carry a hydration bladder with the ASD Skin 5?
Thank you for checking out the video! They both can carry a bladder but the biggest difference is that the ADV SKIN is just a little more heavy duty while the Sense Pro is slightly more lightweight. That said, it seems that the ADV SKIN bounces around less at the expense of breathability compared to the sense pro.
For reference, I have about a 37/38 chest. I like the medium size as it wraps around my chest just right. The neck also seems to fit just right with no chafing issues.
I'm not a heavy sweater so this pack does fine for me. That said, I've been told that the Sense Pro packs breath better and use lighter materials than the Adv Skin packs however, the Adv Skin packs seem to be built up a little more.
Hey! Quick question about the 12.. if the main compartment isn't packed full.. do you feel it flaps around abit to much? Really can't make my mind up between the 5 and the 12 🤔 thansl for any help!
You do not feel the main compartment flap around on the 12 whatsoever. I've used the 12 with nothing but the two front flasks and my phone and it did great for me. Part of the reason why I chose the 5 was because I'm usually not putting a lot of stuff in the back and what I do carry fits just fine in the five for most outings. I wish I could tell you which one to get and if I had to choose just one, it would probably be the 5 knowing that I usually don't fill up the capacity of the 12. Hope that helps and thank you for checking out the video!
I use the Osprey Duro vest. It's the reverse of your vest it comes with the 1.5 liter bladder with room up front for bottles. It's a tight fitting vest that I also using when cycling for my extra long rides with zero movement. I like being able to drink on the go from the bladder. I find i fumble around those soft water bottles if I'm trying to drink on the move. Not sure if anyone else has that problem lol maybe just me... Forgot to mention great review. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the comment and feedback! The Osprey packs are awesome because they all come with a lifetime guarantee. I could see having the bladder in the back being advantageous for cycling, but it's nice that you can use it for running as well.
nice video, I just let it run, Strava can cut out the pauses, and what is important is the distance and elevation for me, I don't care too much for the time if not racing
I'm sometimes surprised at how much time can be added to my run when I try to film. All that running back and forth and setting up the camera for a cool shot and so on adds up! Lol! But you're right, unless it's a race, it doesn't really matter. Thanks for checking out the video and watching till the end!
looking for my first bag ever ! i need a light one salomon is the best ? i saw there 4L and 5L ? i think 8 will be too big for me! any advice ? i have iPhone 13 pro is kinda heavy the pocket dont make it bounce that much? im scared of that :) thanks
I have the Pixel 6 Pro phone and put the phone in the side pocket in the ADV SKIN 5 and it works well there! There's a lot of great packs out there but in my opinion, Solomon is definitely one of the best. What makes it the best is it's overall thought out design and material choices. Certainly, if you can try one on first that is always best. That also helps ensure that you get the right size.
@@SeeChadRun Yes there is local running shop who have some salomon bag but dunno if there is this model i hope, i will check this weekend ! btw im a bit confuse its the last version of the bag ? cuz here i find some in sale in full green (GREEN GABLE) but on official website nope, it's green and black? This is the latest bag as of this writing and I've seen recently that Solomon has come out with a few new colors. I'm not sure if they're promotional colors, but it seems that they often introduce a color for a certain season while other colors stick around.
@@SeeChadRun oh thanks so it can explain ! i was thinking maybe they update the bag but keep the same name :) so maybe it's special color its good cuz i prefer and it's a bit in sale :p thanks for everything

6:35 so that's how you drink with those bags: without removing the bottles but by squeezing them
It's kind of a combination between just sucking the water out but also squeezing it to make it a little easier.
