La Sportiva Prodigio Review // A Focused Mountain Trail Running Shoe
The La Sportiva Prodigio trail running shoe features a nitrogen infused EVA supercritical midsole foam, PU coated nylon rock plate, FriXion XT 2 dual compound rubber outsole with 4mm lugs, Ortholite hybrid insole, high-tenacity engineered knit upper, and more! Despite all it's features, the Prodigio is also a "focused" trail running shoe. Focused by offering exactly what trail runners want and need, and it allows you to focus on the trails and enjoy the mountains. Thanks for watching my review video!

My First 100 Mile Ultra! (23k Vert) // UTE 100, La Sal Mountains, Moab, UT

I’ve been eyeing the UTE 100 ultra trail race for a couple years and leading up to it, running 100 miles seemed huge to me! Don’t get me wrong, running 100 miles is huge, but for me this seemed daunting because it’s my first 100 miler. So many unknowns, so much to concur. The UTE 100 is just over 100 miles of mountain trail racing with over 23000 ft of elevation gain. With such a daunting task ...

    This is September 2024: I have a few Suunto compasses and have been thinking about buying a Suunto watch for a long time now and this is the one that I have eyes on. I do not know if solar charging is really useful or not; I have a Garmin Fenix 7x solar and sincerely that is just a gimmick. Anyway, I like it a lot and my only interest is having a good backup watch, that is why I think the stainless steel version would be sufficient for what I need.

    Same problem here. Very weird ... I just came back from a run with the same shoes... Literally 1st day... Same experience. Not felt like this for years... And I was meant to go for like 8 mi. I ended up doing only 3mi and I couldn't run anymore. Weird that a few more people experiencing the same thing using the same shoes. Halfway I even stopped and adjust the lasers thinking that could be the reason but looking at this review and all the comments I don't think it's just the laces problem... And I don't know what I am going to do with mine... UK size 11 in blue. Infiniti PRO. Shame really... And these are my second under armour shoes. The last one had an issue where they're too narrow. They were almost like chopping my foot away from the edges... I had to put a different insole... And the thing is I like the shoes. They look good. They feel great if you're not running But if you're running, it's a shame already... Can't seem to go faster or farther. Shame really... 😢

      Great question! I've enjoyed the Salomon Genesis and La Sportiva Prodigio trail shoes. The Genesis is a solid all around mountain trail runner with a slightly softer but lively underfoot feel, while the Prodigio is a bit more responsive and protective (thank you rock plate) underfoot. I'd probably go with the Genesis unless you want a tad more toe box room and/or underfoot protection, then go with the Prodigio.

    Just curious why you went with the Topo MTN Racer 3’s for your 100. Were they more comfortable than the Prodigio’s for the long duration?

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great question! I hesitated to use the Prodigio shoes for my 100 miler because I wanted to get a little more experience in the shoe before committing to something as long as 100 miles. I had a little more experience with the Topo's, and they are extremely comfortable, so that's what I went with. The Topo's were great until about mile 70, then it seemed as though the midsole was too soft and I developed blisters under the balls of my feet. The upper of the Topo MTN Racer 3 was great the entire time. I wonder now if the Prodigio would have been better because of the rock plate to offer a little bit more underfoot protection. It's all in hindsight, and who knows if I would have had a different issue over 100 miles. The Salomon Genesis is another shoe that I really contemplated using because for my foot, that really is another great shoe! Thanks for the question!

      @@SeeChadRun I’m trying to think through my own strategies and footwear for a long race. Did you change socks during your hundred or tape your feet? Blisters are the absolute worst. I had 3 bad blisters on my 50-miler last year in a pair of Brooks Cascadia that had a rock plate. I got one in my Salomon Pulsar Trail Pro 2’s during the Devil on the Divide this past Saturday (in a weird spot in the outside of my heel). I want to find a good trail shoe with a balance of comfort, performance and protection. We should go for a run sometime and talk foot strategies.

      @SeeChadRun 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @rundavidrun76 sounds good to me and I'm happy to share any knowledge and experience I have. I've never had blister issues until I ran my hundred miler. During my UTE 100, I did change my socks. I changed them about halfway through and again at mile 70 (I had an extra pair in my pack just in case and when I started getting the blisters, I switched to a fresh pair). When I noticed the blister had formed, on my right foot particularly, I did tape it which helped but at that point my foot was pretty sensitive. Hope this helps!

Super comfortable, sticky on dry rock and technicla terrain, however La Sportiva compromised durability in favor of weight I think. It is the least durable trail runners from La Sportiva. I already seen durability issues after 80 miles in front of the shoe hopefully dont get worse.

    They are ok for shorter distance up to about 50km, but there is something in the toe bumper that catches the top of my toes on the downhills so I don't use them, I prefer the pursuit.

    is this a lesser known 100mile race?

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I would say so. There are less than 100 participants between both the 100 and 50 milers. Despite it being lesser known, the race director does a great job and it's a worthy race.

      @LexiaBoo 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@SeeChadRun oh wow! It did look like there weren’t that many runners but that’s still surprising! No wonder they were able to give you a bunch of stats of how you did afterwards, and why they were grateful you chose them for your first 100.. now that I think about it, doing a race like theirs does seem like the most ideal for one’s effort on a first 100 compared to others like Leadville where you risk DNF from the strict cutoffs

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @LexiaBoo Totally! This race had a 40 hour cutoff. Still, because of its difficulty, about 1/3rd of the 100 miles DNFed.

      Best of luck this Saturday! That's pretty exciting and it's an awesome race! My suggestions or tips would be to not underestimate the second climb between miles 14 to 18, save a little bit of energy for the downhill to the finish line, and enjoy all of the views! Wish I could run it this year but, I just finished a 100 mile ultra a week and a half ago (UTE 100 video is also on my channel right now!) th-cam.com/video/wUah95mbE1I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oYik6luO9p1UD0f0

      @stevecogswell7872 I only carried the two soft flasks on the hydration vest which was enough between aid stations. I didn't have to fill up between stations.
