  • Salomon Adv Skin Running Belt Review. It's a well known fact that I am a big fan of a running belt, and when I say a big fan, I pretty much wear a belt of some description for every run I do under 15 miles. This is something that I've done for many years and I've used all kinds of belts from lots of different brands. Some have performed really well and the odd occasional one has been pretty terrible. But today we are taking a look at Salomon's latest running belt offering - the Adv Skin Belt.
    Thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next video and as always - stay safe and keep on running!

    Got the belt on your recommendation. Awesome, ran in Paris in it a few times,to keep my valuables close. As staying in a hostel. No movement or bounce or squeezing my stomach. Really really impressed.
    Even wore it on metro when not running as it kept everything safe,as I had been told of pick pockets.

    One more advantage on this belt is that it is transparent and you can put in it, your phone(the light from camera on) or your headlamp with lights on and the light will pass through the material. So no need anymore to have your headlamp when you run in the city, the phone is enough.

    I have recently bought this model myself and am planning on wearing it on conjunction with my Adv skin 12 vest for running Yorkshire 3cpeaks this weekend. . Like the pole storage across the back of the belt, really easy to access and put them away after 👍

    I tried the Naked SL and sent it back. I was bang on for the sizing chart but it felt really tight which would be fine if it had a little more flex but it didn't and I wasn't convinced sizing up would be the answer. I also thought it would chafe if directly against the skin. YMMV of course, I know it's popular. I'll try it again if I can find a physical shop to try them again.

  • @dirkmostert3944
    @dirkmostert3944 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Lloyd - how would you rate it versus that grey old UD utility belt? Mine's been working great but recent upgrades to that model had thinner, stretchier materials that collapses into this thing rubber band around your waist when you are stowing only a few items. Some would even pop out as the material pushes it out of the pockets. Seems like this belt holds its shape well around the waist and doesn't collapse on days when you have fewer items in there, is that right?

    your videos are quite helpful in finding running belts. do you have videos that compare the best running jackets (lightweight, wind and water PROOF - not resistant but water and windproof) my brother lives in the pacific northwest (aka land of continuous rain) and i live in monsoon land. we need to be prepared but not carry something heavy. thank you for your excellent videos!

    Doesn’t appear to be available in the United States yet, though the “Pulse” is similar. I almost always wear a belt, including an “old school” one with a buckle (“Essential” from “UltrAspire”) that has zero bounce when worn with the bottle towards the middle of your back. I would like to try their larger two bottle version, but not until they offer a black version, as the two color ways are awful. I can squeeze my phone, keys, and a few gels into my belt, but no pole carrier. Tempted to try this or the “Naked” belt.

    • @ianl4518
      @ianl4518 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've had two pairs of shorts with in built belts before (one Salomon and one brand I forget) unless it's purely for car keys or just a phone, I much prefer a belt, to the point where I don't look at shorts with built in belts at all now. Shorts with pockets can be useful but I think a belt is the way to go.

    I tested both the “pulse” and “sense pro” running belts from Salomon and opted for the latter which had much better fit and storage (no zippers that will break).
    But this new “adv skin” looks even better than the “sense pro” as it has many more big pockets.

    • @SeeChadRun

    I have the Naked Running belt, and have recently bought Salomon Advanced Skin one. The reason for the upgrade is the Solomon has a zipped pocket. I need the security of keeping the car keys & phone in there. I just don't trust a belt without somewhere to zip up my valuables.

  • @ianl4518

    Really timely clip Loyd. I bought a Salomon Sense Pro belt about 6mths ago and generally like it because despite having a Salomon pole quiver, I'm finding I much prefer to carry my poles away from my vest on the belt.
    The issue I have with the Sense Pro belt is that the poles are secured with elastic cord type things with a squeeze clip to cinch them down (like on the Adv Skin 12 vest). This works fine sometimes but because each cord is doubled, when putting the poles back on the belt it's really easy to 'split' the cords and therefore not grab the whole bundle.
    This makes the system weak and the poles either bounce or fall back down. The other thing is that the squeeze clips need re-tightening every so often.
    The front pocket is also not as easy to access as the the one you are showing here. I really like the belt but will definitely be getting one with solid pole straps, rather than the cords.
    I never thought I could write so much about a belt! They are very handy though.

    • @petraalma29
      @petraalma29 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the opposite problem. I have this belt but thought I had ordered the one with the elastic cords that you can cinch, like on the vest. I like those cords and I generally wear my poles on the bottom of my vest and can get them back in Ok, though it is a bit fiddly. I find these fixed straps not tight enough despite the rubber strips on the inside my poles were sliding about, very irritating.
      Also just be ware of the sizing. I am a woman and have to wear it on my hips, which are much wider than my waist. Important to measure the right bit of your body 😃 I bought an XS first and now I have an L!!

    • @ianl4518
      @ianl4518 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@petraalma29 I was wondering about the strength of the fixed straps but I haven't tries them, so good info thanks. I'm med/large with a lot of kit but have XL on the Salomon belt and still a bit 'cosy' 😄

    I have the first version of salomon's running belt and the only one thing that I don't like is that if you put enough gels and on top you have a pair of poles the end result is a nice sweet sοup dripping. On the other hand it is a very comfortable running equipment. After 3-4 months though it becomes stretchier and if you put 500ml flask it will definitely bounce. So keep it at 250-300ml

    Not a question about the belt, but does anyone know what the two little loops on the front of the Salomon Sense Aero 5 shorts are for? I thought this belt might somehow be the answer, but alas, no, they still remain a mystery to me. But they must be for something, since they look just like the ones all over my Adv Skin vest.

    Great review, I tried a lot of belts, the problem I have is that they all crumple up and lose their width (height?) especially if trying to carry poles on them.

      It's a really hard thing to achieve with a running belt, especially one that's a banded design. To achieve that you'd need quite a bit of structure in the belt and I think that would make it a lot less comfortable to run with 🤔

    I have one and TBH I'm not a huge fan. I like to wear running belts over my shorts and under my t-shirt so I'm not advertising to others I'm carrying my phone etc, and because it is wide it means I have to pull my shorts up quite high. I also find it quite difficult to get my phone in and out of the zipped pocket at the back - it only just fits in there. At 84g it's only 60g, or two gels, lighter than my Sense Pro 5 vest, which I find more comfortable for carrying water and kit. If I'm going to use a belt to carry my phone, keys and maybe a couple of gels I find the Sense Pro belt better.

    Just don't get this. Looks awesome on the vid but in reality it's only really good for carrying a phone in the front pocket which is a lot of money just for that. First problem is the sizing. I'm 6ft 2 and a 34 waist. Went through 3 sizes before settling on xl which is still very tight. 2nd issue is the soft flask. Kept working itself out of the front pocket, every time you try and work it back in it starts leaking water everywhere. 3rd problem is it rolls up as soon as you start running so incredibly difficult to stuff things in the pocket when moving. Only positive is the front pocket for your phone which is the only thing that's easily accessible. Thought this was going to be cure for all my storage woes when running but unfortunately in realty it's just a tight compression belt.

    I've got one and I hate it. I find it really uncomfortable. I don't think it's designed for the heavier runner. Have gone back to my cheap, dependable karrimor belt.

    I don't get it. You carry all that stuff so you can use it, either drink the water, consume the food or take the poles out. However, the whole video didn't show any of that. What frustrate me is how hard it was to take things out and put them back. I was hoping by watching this video, i will get some tips or insight. Unfortunately, you didn't use what you packed at all. You just bring all things in the belt back. Then what's the point to carry the belt.

      I'm not really sure what you mean? This was a video reviewing the Salomon belt not an instruction video of how to use a running belt? I wanted to show our viewers all the features of the belt, the pockets, the pole loops, key loop etc and we definitely did that in the video 👍 Thanks for watching.

    Please do not buy this belt. A softflask will work its way out from the front pocket whilst running. When stored in the backpocket, it gets too fiddly to use mid run. I returned mine. Please test belts semiloaded (eg 2 hour run with 1x softflask) and fully loaded (eg as though for full 50-80 mile race req) before recommending belts. Test bounce with high density objects like water in softflask and awkward things like poles, at different paces downhill. I now use the compressport but it's a little trickier to get into the front pocket compared to the salomon... however, still 100pc better than your softflasks falling out all the time. Stupid design overall. Tried different sizes too. The compressport belt I've used for a 100 mile race no probs. To further reduce bounce, tie the ends of your shirt into the belt loops. Worked like a treat for a 4-5kg load

      Did you actually watch the video Chin? I've had the belt for over a month now and I've do a lot of miles with the belt. From 1hr runs with just a 250ml flask and my phone. All the way up to longer efforts on the mountains with a lot more kit, including poles! 👍
      I haven't had any issues with carrying a soft flask in the front pocket, what size fkask did you use? Because if you used a 500ml flask, it's to big for the front pocket. You should have used a 250ml fkask instead. I've also got a Compressport Free belt Pro and I've run with one for about 6 years. It's a great belt but I'd say the Salomon belt has performed just as well. I always test all the products thoroughly before we review it on the channel! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊

      @@Run4Adventure I have used naked belt for a few years and they are superb. You have to ensure you use tape measure on waist before ordering to get right size. And go by tape measure, not what you wish.
