Making electric boats efficient is difficult because they’re heavy and they’re pushing through a lot of water… but the Swedish-built Candela C8 does things a little differently, but using hydrofoils to lift the hull out of the water and reduce hydrodynamic drag.
As such, it doesn’t need a hugely powerful electric motor to propel it at reasonable speeds through the water. Indeed, the 50kW direct-drive e-motor can push the 1750kg leisure craft to 27knots in this case.
With room for eight passengers and a number of different body styles available, the Candela C8 is an intriguing new boat design that’s due in Australia later in 2024. But will it be worth the circa-$700,000 asking price? We took it for a spin to find out.

If they've used parts from the Volvo group, why haven't they also used their hybrid power system with a small petrol or diesel to cruise with. A little 1.5 diesel engine would be more than enough power to let it cruise at 22 knots all day long.
👍
$700000 for this small boat is too much.
ikr, like the early days of Tesla. let's hope it comes down over time.
