How to Build a Modern Birdhouse for the Garden!

I built a FABULOUS birdhouse for my garden at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show!
This simple, modern birdhouse came together in just a few days (dry time was needed) and with minimal mistakes from this newbie woodworker. I will walk you through the process and share what I learned along the way.

Modified birdhouse #3 from this plan.
To create my modified design, simply cut your top cap and longer side to 10" and 14". This 2" overhang really transforms the look. I eliminated the perch as I wanted a more streamlined look.

A flat roof will disintegrate faster, maybe version 2.0 will be better.

We used cedar and all pieces were treated which will extend the life. However I am not expecting this bird house to last forever. If i need to replace the roof that would be an easy fix.

Well the design is nice will most likely give it a try
Now what you neglected to do was cut some small holes in the base that would act as a drain
Next you neglected to make slits for the baby birds for air circulation
The third thing you neglected to do is have a way to empty the bird house so you can clean out the old nest and sanitize the interior so it can be used the next season
You did all that work but you should have spent sometime doing some research, given this was your first birdhouse you get a pass
