Absolutely gorgeous! What a gift, my nephew is wanting to build his own birdhouse but with being too young to use a table saw etc. I’m premaking him his own that he can put together and hang. Found this video, thanks for sharing!!!
Looks great. Thanks for sharing your process. A few suggestions from the Audubon society birdhouse book: skip the peg to limit predator access, and make sure the roof is removable for future cleaning. I think the inside might be okay but it wouldn't hurt to have some structure for baby birds to climb out. And you did a good job avoiding toxic paints and finishes (and no finish on the inside)!
What a fab video, the bird box looks great. I am definitely going to have a go at making one of these. The only thing I would add is the ability to remove the panel to the left of the bird hole to allow for cleaning. I bet this has weathered well to a wonderful colour now. 👍👍👍
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, making the panel removable is a good alteration. I just end up using chop sticks at the end of the season. The color and patina on this one is indeed fantastic!
I actually used chopsticks the first year to clean it out. But I might drill a larger hole in the bottom this year and then cut a plug for it. Honestly it just depends on how full it gets each season.
Good question! So you could use a spade bit but just be careful with that as they sometimes like to walk out of the hole. I would use a punch or an awl to mark the center location before drilling. And make sure you clamp down your workpiece to a piece of scrap wood or plywood so you don't get tear-out when the bit breaks through the other side.
Thanks for the support! Enjoy the project! Here is the link to the Portal Protector: amzn.to/3yNrSgS As for the flange, I picked that up at the hardware store, but something similar to this: amzn.to/3spQpHt
Thank you! Plans for this are available here: timberbiscuitwoodworks.com/shop/p/mid-century-modern-birdhouse-plans-woodworking-project-plans Good luck!
PLEASE post pictures of the birdhouse now, two years after the build, to show how the oil treatment worked to prevent wear & tear from the elements! Thank You!
I love quotations and this video got me not just the beautiful bird house but definitely the quote and the white fence. Did you build the qhite fence too?
The plans have all the parts laid out and the measurements for each piece. But if you have any questions, just shoot me a message and I would be happy to answer them. Enjoy the build!
That’s awesome! You can build this with a jigsaw honestly but it will just take a little longer. The grooves in the front and back are really the only thing you need a table saw to do.
Ok, that work is awesome, but I did not see any door or access to clean the inside of the house, when the birds leave the nest, but I will make a door for it at the bottom or at the back which can be opened and closed to clean the interior, thanks for show us your great job ! 😉👍
I love your design, but one thing you forgot is a clean out for the house. I can not sell houses in my area using the wood that you do but I can do a stain.
Thank you! I just use chop sticks to clean it out, but you could opt for a plug on the bottom. And a stain would work, just make sure it can hold up to the elements.
Were birds ever attracted to it? Coincidental I ran into this video, I'm in the process of finishing my ash birdhouse with tung now. Mine doesn't have any maple though. And I'm using a slightly different method on the tung. Still using pure tung oil though - natural & waterproof.

Thanks! I put the perch on for that “classic” look but I think it would look and function well with out it too.
agree on all that you posted. I make sure I do not have a peg on any of the houses I make and NO paint on the inside and always have a clean ourt

Timber Biscuit Woodworks links for gear?
@@daveyhyd1525 Are you talking about amazon links or shirts and stickers?

I love it, it reminds me of my late grandmother's house.
Thanks! Sounds like she had a pretty awesome home.
Awe dude you have all the good saws
There’s always another one..
Love the modern birdhouse
Thank you! It was a great project!
Are the project plans scaled smaller? Because my pieces look smaller than they do in the video
The plans are not to scale. The measurements in the plan are the correct size for the birdhouse in the video.
This is the best bird house I've seen in life GREAT JOB man.
Thank you so much! Let me know if you have any questions.
Oh wow what a beautiful birdhouse! You've got a new subscriber!

How cool!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Great video.

How do you open the bird house to clean it out? It should be cleaned out early every spring or fall.
I actually used chopsticks the first year to clean it out. But I might drill a larger hole in the bottom this year and then cut a plug for it. Honestly it just depends on how full it gets each season.
Do u have a drawing showing your dimensions?
Hi Dan, I have full plans for this build here: etsy.me/3c3X0iY Let me know if you have any other questions!
is there any other way to make a hole in a birdhouse because i dont have that drilly circle thing and i cant find it anywhere
Hi - I bought the plans, but can you list the link for the hole cover and flange?
Thanks for the support! Enjoy the project! Here is the link to the Portal Protector: amzn.to/3yNrSgS
As for the flange, I picked that up at the hardware store, but something similar to this: amzn.to/3spQpHt
Great build! I am using this plan for my woodshop class and would love to build this! Where can I find the measurements and dimensions for the pieces?
Thank you! Plans for this are available here: timberbiscuitwoodworks.com/shop/p/mid-century-modern-birdhouse-plans-woodworking-project-plans Good luck!
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks Thank you, but this is out of my budget
PLEASE post pictures of the birdhouse now, two years after the build, to show how the oil treatment worked to prevent wear & tear from the elements! Thank You!
We have it in storage right now for the winter but I'll post some images come spring time.
I love quotations and this video got me not just the beautiful bird house but definitely the quote and the white fence. Did you build the qhite fence too?
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. As for the fence, no I didn’t build it.
Do you let the weight of the wood be the clamps with tape holding everything still
The tape has a little stretch to it so it acts as a clamp for the areas where an actual clamp would be difficult to use.
Is there a parts list when I purchase file. Thanks
The plans have all the parts laid out and the measurements for each piece. But if you have any questions, just shoot me a message and I would be happy to answer them. Enjoy the build!
Are 4x4 good for table legs?
Yeah, that would work. It would just be a bit bulky
I'm building this for my girlfriend for Christmas but don't have a woodshop. Can I build this with basic tools?
That’s awesome! You can build this with a jigsaw honestly but it will just take a little longer. The grooves in the front and back are really the only thing you need a table saw to do.
Later he added wainscotting and crown molding.
Only to the first floor.
Ok, that work is awesome, but I did not see any door or access to clean the inside of the house, when the birds leave the nest, but I will make a door for it at the bottom or at the back which can be opened and closed to clean the interior, thanks for show us your great job ! 😉👍
Thanks! I used chop sticks to clean it out last year. But adding a door or plug at the bottom is a great option too.
Gorgeous house one question the size of the house?
Thank you! The actual house portion is 8in x 5in x 8in
How are you going to put the food inside? There's no door
I guess I’ll have to build a feeder once it warms up.
I love your design, but one thing you forgot is a clean out for the house. I can not sell houses in my area using the wood that you do but I can do a stain.

Since an expert made this project I am pretty sure its durable even if he did not used nails
No nails needed my friend!
Way over the top
damn right

Yeah! We get Eastern Blue Birds every day now. The tung oil has held up pretty well. I’ll definitely be refinishing it this fall.
@@TimberBiscuitWoodworks GOOD! That makes me hopeful for mine too!
Side note- I meant to say walnut in my comment ⬆️⬆️, not maple.
That’s awesome! Good luck with your project!
BIRB HOUSE
Or Burb House haha
Beautifull made and very neat, but no bird is going to live there. It is too clean, to artifiscial , it smels. And you van nog cleanit from th inside.
Thanks but it’s been up for over two years now and been home to many birds. I clean it out with chopsticks at every winter.
To build this project you will need $45k in tools, and will lose 2 fingers...
Not at all... Many people have built this project with a jigsaw or just a table saw.
beautiful...however you forgot to leave a way to clean out the house
I just use a pair of chop sticks to clean it out.
