But I’m so tired of hearing that about Star Wars. We said that about the prequels, “in moments it had so much potential, if only…”. We said that about the sequel trilogy, “it had so much potential, if only they had gone in the direction of…”. Like bro, can Star Wars for once not live off the hype of old stories and make something NEW. And can they for once make a consistent and concise storyline so we’re not always dreaming of what could have been!!
      Edit:
P.S. Since people seem to be misreading what I'm saying. I'm annoyed that star wars is so damn formulaic and doesn't create new stories without involving old characters whose arcs are already over.

The best aspect of Obi-wan, is Vader gave him the opportunity to forgive himself.
When Vader says, "I killed Anakin." You can see Obi-Wan's facial expression change from self-loathing, to sadness for his friend. I think Vader showed compassion for his friend by taking ownership of his path, allowing Obi-Wan to forgive himself and move closer into the light of the force. This also showed there is still good in Vader, and he is still a complicated person.
In the beginning of the series, Obi-Wan had placed himself in purgatory, by the end, he was on a path towards enlightenment.

Intresting point actually, Its something I felt while watching without actually realising. Thinking back to it now when you point it out, you sort of get that feeling from vader. The fact that he took ownership doesnt need to only be based on his arrogance. It could also be him trying to help Kenobi. It can be interpreted in sevreal ways. Thats when you have good writing.

    • @watertommyz

This is just me but the entire Kenobi Show should've been centered around these things.
    1) Kenobi's training with Qui-Gon, reflecting on the past/present/future, watching Luke, and surviving on Tatoonie.
    2) Vader going through the galaxy hunting Jedi while being trained in the Dark Side by the Emperor.
    3) The politics between the Emperor, Bail Organa, and the Senate so we get a good glimpse at the world building aspect of how the Empire rules the Galaxy, which results to the slow rise of the Rebellion.
    4) Showing parallels of Vader and Kenobi's training along with flashbacks of their relationship during the Clone Wars. Tie it all in to Vader and Kenobi's inevitable rematch, with each of their respective masters telling them they must fight each other in order to complete their training.
    But instead we got this....

My thought is that Disney should have switched the concepts of Kenobi and The Book Of Boba Fett. Give Boba Fett the action-packed series about what he's doing in the present, and give Kenobi the slower-paced series with old, broken Obi-Wan having flashbacks to his time with Anakin and how that bond they shared is effecting him in the present. I would have loved to see what Hayden could have done with Anakin free of George Lucas' writing/directing, and not have to rely on the Clone Wars show to see the Obi-Wan/Anakin friendship.
Good ending though, even if the rest of the series felt a bit flat. Also, was it just me or did something look off about Qui Gon? Almost like they had Liam Neeson in too much makeup or something...

What was Reva's motivation in this episode? She had just been beaten and left for dead by Vader. What reason did she have for going after Luke?
HOW did she even manage to go after him? She had been impaled, left to die, and seemingly had no ship. Why does this series make getting impaled by a lightsaber seem like a mild inconvenience?
Where did Reva go after this episode? Why was Obi-Wan okay with letting her live with the knowledge that she had? Why was she in this series at all? Her character is a complete and total mess.

For me, the weird part is the way the show wrote Obi-Wan leaving Vader alive. Like, he knows he’s a scourge of evil, he has him in a position where he could probably easily kill him and save the galaxy a whole lot of suffering. He’s already made the mistake of leaving him alive once, and this time he just….walks away from him. After seeing Vader terrorize and hunt refugees and force sensitive people, going to confront him on his own. And he just leaves him. I was shocked and confused at the reasoning for that. I thought the inquisitors were going to show up just in time to save Vader and force Obi-Wan to flee but nope. He just leaves an evil murderous psychopath alive for a SECOND TIME.

Yup, OBW's emotional and spiritual journey between ROTS to ANH would have been an awesome film. We could've had:
    1. A devastated and broken man who feels entirely responsible for everything that Anakin has become battling with inner conflict that he might do exactly the same to Luke
    2. News starting to filter back to him (somehow) that a rebellion against the Empire is beginning and that growing numbers of people way more vulnerable than he is are standing up and fighting back against the same evil that wiped out the Jedi and seeing OBW becoming increasingly inspired by that.
    3. Becoming, with lots of conversations filled with reflective wisdom from QG force ghost, the wise and resonating-with-good-and-calm OBW we see when Maul comes looking for him and then later when A New Hope kicks off.
Which would be a really cool way to remind us that the greatest power of the Jedi isn't about being a really good lightsaber fighter. It might not be as cinematic, but watching a man like OBW find hope and get his Light Side mojo back again would be a great movie and possibly one many might relate to. Some good thoughts, except Kenobi is the quintessential good guy, and he would never have become depressed like that - he is a man of duty and honor, and would have acted accordingly. He has one job, to protect Luke, and he wouldn't have moped around for 10 whole years lamenting the events of Revenge of the Sith. What we saw was NOT Obi-Wan, or even Ben Kenobi. There is absolutely no narrative connective tissue between the master Jedi we saw in Ep III and the mission-driven older man we saw in Ep VI. It strains credulity to think that those three slices from this character's life are the same "person."

Vader leaving Reva alive (the second time) was the lowest moment in the show. He's supposed to be an unstoppable killing machine (literally) and he fails at fatally stabbing the same person twice, literally just after he brought up failing the first time. Then it's revealed that the Grand Inquisitor was alive the entire time, and that this was his master plan. His master plan revolved around getting stabbed in the exact part of his chest where he wouldn't die, and then he watches Reva receive the exact same injury.

And in the other side Obi-Wan deserved a heartfelt story about the events that followed ROTS knowing who Anakin has become, and revolve the story around the TWO OF THEM their own personal journeys, culminating in a big fight.
I agree with most people saying that this should’ve been a movie, it definitely could have been a blockbuster even more now that we are seeing that in 2022 movies are making huge profits again (example: Top Gun:Maverick).
The series as a whole was okay, Im not going to lie I was looking forward for new episodes every week but it was like a rollercoaster. It had it’s ups and downs.

Darth Vader to Luke: "Obi-Wan once thought as you do."
Obi-Wan in their final fight: "I'm sorry Anakin. For all of it."
Vader: "I am not your failure Obi-Wan. You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker. I did. Just like I will destroy you."
Obi-Wan: "Then my friend is truly gone."
That puts that into context. Obi-Wan was still trying to reach Anakin, till that moment. So I'd say it does make sense. As well as the "I MUST obey my master." Puts into context the conversation he has with Palpatine after him and Obi-Wan's fight. So it all made sense to me, at least in that regard.
Obi-Wan didn't have to ask Vader to come with him, or that there is still good in him. He just needed to be still trying to see Anakin in Vader and feel he's still in there somewhere. Which he did, till Vader told him that line. Which was when Obi-Wan truly accepted that his friend was gone, and called him "Darth" instead of "Anakin", which he had been doing up to that point.

Again, they put all their hopes on Luke, fair or unfair, and they felt he would be the new 'chosen one' that would end the destructive conflict. This is how Jedi think, and ultimately a flaw in their approach. It's always been that way.
Ultimately, killing Vader there wouldn't bring down the Empire. So all those deaths would have happened.
The Grand Inquisitor even says in the first episode that the Jedi Code is the Jedi’s weakness. History backs that up, both in the movies and in the games. So if anything it's consistent.

I love the stuff with the PTSD and guilt he was suffering from and him coming to terms with it all. But there are so many problems I have with the show and Star Wars overall. This whole show was unnecessary and is very much a giant plot hole, the more I think about it.
No matter how much the people behind Star Wars keep trying to get my interest, I keep running into the same problem and that is the people in charge (mainly Kathleen Kennedy). It's been ten years and the most positive I have to say about the Disney Era of Star Wars is that the Mandalorian and the Clone Wars final season were great, plus a really good video game, but when it comes to the rest... Why did the Empire not deploy a single TIE fighter to take out the Rebel transport? How did Reva get to Tatooine? How is she walking around with all her vital organs burnt like over-done toast? Why did Reva go after Luke? She didn't know Luke was Anakin's son and she was only after Kenobi to use as bait for Vader. How can Kenobi tell Owen that he and Beru are enough to protect Luke, when all the adults around Luke failed to protect him against Reva? The kid was injured; he was pushed off a cliff, got a concussion and was knocked out, and only survived because Reva had a change of heart. That's just this episode, and this episode is one of the better ones.

I'm in the middle but really enjoyed seeing the Star Destroyer doing some chasing which was seriously lacking in the rest of the series. Really enjoyed the lightsaber fight and the homage to Rebels. Guess Leia kept her word and remember what Obi-Wan told her to pretend not to know him.
On a Leia tangent, I really wish they did an arc with her character. She's a princess who doesn't know anything about the outside world and what the Empire does to people. Her world is all sunshine and lolipops and Stormtroopers are good and to be trusted, is what I thought her mindset should have been at the start. She should have ran to the Imperial forces when she escaped and not trusted Ben until she saw what the brutality that the Empire wreaks on the galaxy. And she sees the light and truth about the Empire and when she's returned to Alderaan, she tells her parents and they tell her that they're going to try to change it for her and all the people in the galaxy.

@@andrewadams8601 'So he chose to fight Vader, but didn't kill him or do anything really when he won. What was the point...?'
I assume this is where the 'you didn't let them down if you showed him mercy' line, that Obi-Wan told Reva, comes in. I guess seeing the state he's in, and how far he's gone, really made Obi feel sorry for him. The real question is why did Vader leave Obi under the rubble, when they're supposed to feel each other's presence through the force, and he knows that Obi can hurl giant boulders through the air, too. What did he say about Obi-wan in RoS, again? 'As wise as master Yoda and as powerful as master Windu'?
Luke's ' It's not just about lifting rocks' line in TLJ turned out very ironic, too - the force has been reduced to just throwing rocks in every D+ show, so far.
Then again why did Vader leave Reva alive, or why did he let the second ship go, in the last episode? Why didn't he finish Obi-wan off during their first encounter, when there was just a small line of fire between them, that a child could walk around in 30s at a semi-brisk pace? Everyone gives up surprisingly easy in this show, when the script demands it.
I almost turned this episode off after the first 5 minutes. First Reva gets to Tatooine instantly, while the Empire is still chasing the Rebel ship from the last episode in real time. Not to mention that it's silly she survived that, or that she hasn't hopped into a Bacta tank immediately after, but then again this is a show where lightsaber hits bounce off of Stormtroopers and rocks. Then the whole riveting TLJ slow chase scene concept comes back, then Vader tells them to leave the Rebel ship alone, cause they need to focus on Obi-wan, only to leave the destroyer half a minute later, anyway. So couldn't the Empire just turn back and focus on the Rebels, while Vader went to fight Obi? Is that the only destroyer in the Empire? They couldn't just call reinforcements that would be there instantly? Tie-fighters don't have a hyper-drive, but they should be plenty fast to catch that slow Rebel frigate with a busted hyper-drive, too.
This show has so much wasted potential.

Alright, I feel like there's a common misconception that I have to clear up.
Obi-Wan was not "rusty" with the Force. The reason his Force powers were weak at the beginning of the series is NOT due to lack of use, but rather, it was due to his guilt and inner turmoil over Anakin's fall. Remember those nightmares he was having in the first episode? A Jedi needs to center himself and attain a state of serenity in order to let the Force flow through him. Due to the trauma he experienced, Obi-Wan was unable to achieve such a state and therefore, his connection to the Force grew weaker. It was only after he faced Vader and got the proper closure he needed was he able to regain his previous level of power. This was signified in the last scene by him being able to see Qui-Gon again after not having been able to do so during the earlier episodes.
So all those people who were complaining that it doesn't make sense for Obi-Wan to be rusty when he was supposed to be protecting Luke? There's your answer.

Worst thing about this show is keeping Reva alive.

I’m not even joking. I would have enjoyed it more if Jar Jar came back instead of her🤣.

Thank you for sharing your perspective, Jeremy. Always love hearing your thoughts. This should have been 2 different shows, one for Reva and one for Obi Wan. I personally just did not care about Reva in this show. If she would have gotten her own show, cool. I liked the concept of her character and felt her motivations and past could have been explored more with Reva as the lead. I personally only cared about Obi Wan's journey and the final showdown with Obi Wan and Vader. Wanted to see a deeper dive into not only Obi Wan's psyche, but also Vader's. The conflict is still fresh for Vader, and he struggles with the failures of Anakin.

I've just finished watching it. Solid 6/10 for me. Given the premise, the characters, and the actors, it should have been better than what we got. But it felt so good to see McGregor playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again. And Hayden Christensen, too! And Jimmy Smits! I think we could all use a dad like Bail Organa, or a grandpa like Obi-Wan Kenobi, couldn't we?
The Inquisitor stuff didn't work for me. They clearly went the mystery path with Reva, meaning the audience is left in the dark about her past and motivations. She just does Vader's bidding, while being overly eager, perhaps. But the camera kept staying on the character, which to me was just annoying as I didn't understand her and therefore didn't give a fuck about her. In the final battle, the show wanted to give her a redemption arc. Which would work if they made me care about her before. Which I didn't. So, whenever the camera cut away from the Vader-Kenobi fight, I got hella annoyed, especially because I know Ben, Beru, and Luke will survive just fine, and what was happening to them just wasn't interesting enough for me to be forced to witness it. It's a prequel problem, for sure. But I think, if I cared about Reva, it could have worked.
Actually, just rethinking all of this, it feels closer to a 5/10 now …
