No. Ray had that effect on fanboys.
Same thing was said about Blackbeard.

If Ahsoka had come out before we got tired- maybe after Mandolorean season 2- I think we’d be more forgiving of a lot of its issues. The wooden acting is pretty unforgivable, but I can see some of the leaps they take with the story working in another time.
They imply that Ahsoka and Sabine go off together in the final scene of Rebels, but it’s never made clear that this was training. I think it is implied that Sabine is very minimally force sensitive a couple times in the series when she trains with Kanan.
It would have been a ballsy move if they did kill Sabine in the first episode. That would have really introduced stakes, given Ahsoka some personal motivation, and set the show apart from the cookie cutter formula it’s pursuing now. Kill Sabine, make ahsoka battle with the vengeance of the dark side and see herself follow in the dark footsteps of her master- how great would that storyline have been!?
I’ve got problems with most of the casting. Rosario Dawson should be great, but she’s not. According to the timeline, Sabine should be like 35 at this point in the show, so the actress just seems to young to me- including how she portrays the character. Hera grew on me, and she’s one of the only rebels characters that retains a hint of her personality from the show.

Naturally she then gets the great idea to try again with Sabine, who she already apparently tried and failed to train, whilst taking her along on a mission that is routed in her attachment to someone else.
(On top of there being no setup in the past to suggest she was force sensitive and the fact that the mission could determine the fate of the entire galaxy, so you probably want the best, fully trained, level headed people to go along with you)

It's a shame because Ray Stevenson has been awesome. His character is the only complex and interesting character outside of Andor that Disney Star Wars has portrayed. Also, an increasing problem is yhat Disney is leaning on the time period between the trilogies. Jeremy highlights it perfectly. Why is Luke not intervening. Andor sidesteps this because it is the lead up to the rebellion. Abothet huge weakness of the show is it yoo heavily relies on one to have watched Rebels or clunkily has dialogue presented because they are trying to address information the audience who haven't watched rebels needs to know. I've never watched Rebels so I don't any of the history of these characters.

Story is there and I would say well written but the direction doesn't give the viewer to breathe and process things. It's snappy at the worst times. The recent Mandalorian seaaon pacing was overwhelming for me that I just didn't care. Bo Katan was an amazing addition to that show but her arc felt so rushed I didn't feel anything when she became part of the Mandalorians and this is a character we've been following since Clone Wars animated series so what she's doing IS A BIG DEAL but the weight of her story arc just wasn't there for me I didn't feel much and this was her season.

I really feel like they're forgetting the show is called Ahsoka. She feels a bit like she did in Rebels: a more misterious and distant version of the character. But it made sense for her to be that way because she wasn't a protagonist, and we were seeing her through Ezra's eyes, a kid who had only heard about the Jedi through rumors and legends. Basically, she feels like a side character in her own show. We don't really know how she feels about anything, like why she cares about stopping Thrawn, other than because "the empire is bad" and she's a good guy, or how she honestly feels about Sabine, other than what she tells Sabine herself.
Imagine someone that's seeing this show for the first time, without knowing much about Ahsoka. They are probably very lost and uninterested right now. When she said "We're not here to talk about my past" I almost yelled at the screen "This feels exactly like the place to do that!", but we've yet to see anything that adds to her character. The ending of the episode gives me hope that we might finally get to see more of her backstory.
I think these Star Wars shows are suffering a lot from trying to add a plot twist, or a surprise in the later episodes for shock value and hype, but that makes everything that comes before it very uninteresting and uninspired, like you're waiting for the real story to start, and when it does, the show is over.

      @Fireandbubbles ปีที่แล้ว +5

It’s already predictable. That’s okay, especially in a mythos type setting like Star Wars. The issue is that when the plot is predictable (which again, can be okay) your story is entirely about characters. Why they do things, how they feel about things, becomes the heart of your story. but … ok, you bring it Sabine, clearly you’re motivated to pursue Thrawn on a different priority than Sabine does, but you don’t have a conversation about it? Sabine clearly knows her priorities aren’t the same as Ahsoka’s but you don’t address it until you catch up to the goons who only have it because you botched the possession?

They would be totally confused by whats happened. The series is also making me really dislike Sabine & get super bored of Ahsoka. Both these characters are acting completely opposite from the 4 seasons of Rebels (& 7 seasons of CWs) we've seen. And i really HATE people using the excuse that "they've been through a lot". Uhh...we've seen both these characters lose everything & still not act like this. I mean Sabine just handing over something that will cause another war like its nothing is so far from her laid out Rebels character? Oh & this force storyline w Sabine?? its making anything special about the force mean absolutely nothing. Weve already seen her (lightsaber) train w Kanan & Ezra, you would think that would have popped up. Also, the whole midichlorian count/force user thing is just completely erased out if anyone or anything can tap into it. The only character I'm actually interested in so far is Huyang. I'd rather see a show about him & how he helped younglings with their lightsabers than what we're getting so far.

There *was* a consistent set of rules for force ghosts prior to the Disney era of Star Wars. The rule was that not everyone could be a force ghost, most people simply became one with the Force, and in order to manifest your spirit and personality through the Force after death you would need to undergo specific training. Qui-Gon Jinn never completed that training, so he was never able to actually show himself, but he was able to train Yoda and Obi-Wan on how to do it. Not sure how Anakin picked up on that though, unless Obi-Wan's force ghost visited him.

I agree with this 100%. Also, the first episode felt like the actors were taking their scenes and their lines slowly on purpose which felt very odd. I had such higher hopes for this series. Especially when compared to Andor and the recent Mando season. It's feeling one dimensional thus far. The Luke Skywalker plotpoint is so relevant and the fact that he's just...not present seems so weird. I agree, Ahsoka wouldn't necessarily be with the Rebels series characters automatically. And yes....another map fetch-quest...I thought Dave Feloni would have baked in a bit more complexity than that. It seems like Star Wars: Girl Power fan service. Which is fine....just give us a well-paced and well structured plot momentum rather than layered head-scratcher moments. Also, I yelled at the TV when the Marrok character just smoked out. It’s crazy that Dave feloni has gotten her so wrong. While then outside of the villains all the characters and story is really bad. Filoni has no idea how to direct live action effectively. Dawson looks bored because she likely is. Hours and hours in the make up chair just to be told to repeat her lines in a deadpan monotone can't be a good time for her. Bordizzo as Sabine is OK, she's trying, but I don't think she has a lot of range as an actor. So the story should have started basically with what happens in Ep 4 (by far the best episode), that would at least have kicked things off with a bang on the verge of the action. At least JJ Abrams would have looked at these scripts and gone "oh no, we need to start later in the story, and throw a ton of action at this from the jump" so you pick up on the character's personalities while they are in action, under duress, trying to do things, instead of them just standing around talking about their feelings.

Some valid points in this review but a bit unfair to review this series since it isn't complete. Also, I don't think this is merely a continuation of Rebels, I see elements of the 'Heir to the Empire' trilogy by Timothy Zahn and I have a feeling this show is going to end with a flourish. Ray Stevenson's character has definitely been the most interesting for me. Not a Sith, not a Jedi, more of a mercenary with force. He has shades of Count Dooku and a code he lives by, I also respect that. Personally, I've enjoyed the more Jedi-centric story of Ahsoka after the recent Mandalorian and Bobba Fett series, which I loved as well. The map to Thrawn deal is kind of cheesy but look, the bottom line is this, after the abysmal Star Wars movies recently, this is ll we have left. I think Disney has done a pretty great job with the shows, just now with the movies. Additionally, the IMDb rating has been hovering around the 8/10 mark, which is quite high, so the consensus is that the show is a success, thus far. Plus like you said, the force gives the Jedi greater knowledge. Baylan probably just read Darth's mind or felt it. Btw, the Emperor and Obi-Wan knew and they weren't dead, so not eveyone. Someone with the force could have read Obi's mind. To me it's just another bad sign of Disney convoluting everything with all these shows.

*But fr tho imagine being a casual fan* and watching this? You’d be asking,
      “Who are these people?”
“Why is the show acting like I should know who they are?”
“Anakin had an apprentice?” It’s inaccessible to regular viewers.

@@firstlast9846I remember someone saying that similarly, and the response one Star Wars fan who enjoyed Ahsoka so far said that if so then media literacy is dead because the first two episodes were great setup for those who have not watched the animated shows.

@@firstlast9846 I disagree with this point. Ahsoka is an animated character, that is her origin. Most of the main characters are from Rebels. This show is for those that loved the animated shows, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not for casual fans, it’s for those that loved these characters
My problem is the execution. Ahsoka is one of my favorite Star Wars characters of all time. I specifically looked for Ahsoka-centered Clone Wars episodes to rewatch. And here, it seems like her personality has been sapped out of her. I get that she’s older so she’s gonna be more mature, but there’s…nothing personality wise that matches her animated appearances.

The Anakin scene wasn’t a force ghost, because there’s no blue glow around his body. So we won’t know what it is until next week. But I’m guessing it’s Anakin from the past. Before his fall, and he somehow made his way to the world between worlds. Or it’s all a trick. Maybe it’s not really Anakin. But it’s all in Ahsoka’s head. Idk if it’s night sister magic being used by Morgan or if Ahsoka is just dreaming.

Who knows how force ghosts looks in the World between Worlds. I also interpreted it as a realm of the force beyond time so it would make sense if force ghost just appeared in their living bodies there.

I first saw him when I saw a review of ME3 (before they patched tf out of it) and he was like “I know some of you are saying that in this one ending Shepard takes a breath so he lived. No, he didn’t. He died in every single ending.” And I needed that honesty then like I need it now.
