In our latest video, "The Historic Battle For El Toro Kickflip | Dave Bachinsky" we met up with Dave at El Toro High School to revisit the location where he made skateboarding history. 18 Years later, it is still...arguably...the only flip trick landed down the stairs. Why is this so debatable? Well, is Chris Joslin's 360 Flip considered a land? Is a Kickflip Melon Grab considered a "flip trick"? You decide. Either way, this moment changed Dave's life forever and cemented him in skate history. With appearances by legends; Ryan Sheckler, Greg Lutzka, Ricki Bedenbaugh, Heath Kirchart, Ryan Decenzo, Aaron Jaws Homoki, TJ Rogers, Nyjah Huston, Clive Dixon, Dylan Stark, Chris Joslin, Vincent Milou, Adrien Bullard, Jamie Foy and more. Be sure to check out Dave Bachinsky's "My War" on Thrasher Magazine and stay tuned right here next week for a brand new Ryan Sheckler video!

Absolute class act Dave is. “I’m just happy to be a part of skateboarding.” Fuck yes dude. 18 years really puts it in perspective. Stomped the fuck out of it too.
💪🙌
i don't think he could have NOT stomped that 😂
Want more perspective, those high-schoolers watching the interview weren't even born when the kick flip went down
Shecks has the same quote 🤙
yeah back then this trick was just unimaginable. i remember being blown away and i was barely old enough to comprehend this. i love the fact that he said: "i was just skating." that just makes it a touch more magical.
Insane
This day was huge when it came out. Was too gnarly to believe
still the only fliptrick that has been done at el toro unless you count joslins tre flip
Not only is it one of the biggest kickflips ever done but also one of the most stylish kickflips ever done. What a feeling it must be to have this in your history belt.
It’s nuts
Perfectly said man that's exactly why it was always my favourite kickflip...the VX look and feel mixed with the sound of the rollup and the big shoes...just the way Dave rolls on the board his foot positioning just before he snaps it...that split second of silent hangtime and then that massive STOMP....For me no modern kickflip can ever match that kind of raw heaviness...just so fkn gnarly
Yup- Clears it by at least a couple feet and lands perfectly. Steezy
Dude is just so humble and down to earth. Class act Dave
❣❣❣
A humble beast
This dude was years ahead , skateboard for life man god bless us
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
"I appreciate everyone's support, that's been everything for me, just being part of skateboarding" I almost shed a tear, amazing job Chase ❤🔥
🙌🙌🙌🙌
Yeah Legend status!
Damn I still remember the rumors back in high school and then seeing the footage on an early version of youtube and losing my shit, at the time kickflipping like a 10 would've been gnarly. Absolute legend
🤝🤝🤝
It's so crazy, that Dave is like incredible at ledge skating, mini ramp skating and all the low impact stuff, and he's the guy who Kickfliped El Toro.
💪🙌
Crazy no one's landed another flip trick in almost 2 decades since then. But really, 20 stairs is pushing the limit of what a person can do, flip trick wise. You can only go so fast and jump so high and take so much impact.
Forever Legendary!
Well, jaws did kick flip melon. I'd say that counts
I was just thinking about that too. Nearly 20 years on and this is still on the Mount Rushmore of flip tricks. Still one of the biggest and best kickflips ever done.
I’m 34 and this makes me feel so old 😅 such a monumental trick for skateboarding.
What about jaws tho?
Grew up skating with Dave at Hadley skatepark in Lowell MA. Greatest dude out there, plus he was rocking the best shoes ever. Wray 4.0s
🤩🤩🤩🤩
Hell yeah! Best skater to ever come out of this state IMO!
@dpenduro8950 hell yeah man, if your still in the area. Come to Hedgehog Park in salem nh. Got a great curb setup we installed last year
This dude was ahead of his time. I can’t believe this was 18 years ago!
❤❤❤❤
The sound of that rollup is so memorable. Dave, blue jeans, big shoes, and VX filming made us all question our sanity when seeing this clip for the first time. I love how Dave's arm freezes mid air as he's rolling away- not only did he roll away alive but he stomped the fuck out of it too.
So epic
The sound, the jeans and the shoes was always one of my favourite things about the clip also....just captures perfectly what the whole scene felt like being a kid skating at that time...the whole thing is just beyond epic
I stopped skateboarding fifteen years ago, but it always stays with you. We look at things differently.
💪
Facts.
The fact that no one has landed a flip trick (without a grab) since is a testament to how insane that kickflip actually is. Its criminal how badly Joslin was robbed of that tre flip. And not just his truck breaking, but also that it underwent renovation not long after, therefore robbing him of another chance to get it
❣❣❣❣❣❣❣❣❣
Jaws Kickflip Melon down it.. idk why they are lying. I guess for clicks
@@ADucksOpinion I said "without a grab" my guy, which was clearly a way of acknowledging Jaws. And they mentioned that trick in the video too. So no one is lying
@@ADucksOpiniongrab just ain’t the same
its still a flip.. i bet jaw could have did it but its still a flip@@commentator2.0
I'm here because every few years I like to go back and watch these clips. I was a gap skater back when this happened and I always wanted a piece of this. Congratulations Dave and another little nostalgic thing about this clip is the end where you can hear them all losing their minds in slow motion. I love it. Love skating.
Sick
I will watch this when I'm 80 and still get goosebumps, Dave was always one of the best and most underrated!
❤️🙏
He's such a gnarly gap skater while also being one of the best miniramp and ledge skaters ever, he can truly skate anything! I also love the woodworking stuff he's doing. Definitely one of my fav skaters out there!
Couldn't agree more!
Dave's a legend and always will be for this kickflip
Yup
Dude. Bachinsky is a G for landing this so many years ago. Seeing him huck down this set over and over again, building up the momentum to just do it. So sick
So good
shout out to Dave man. literally the best human. couldnt ask for a more genuine person.
💪🙌
Crazy how chill he was through the entire session.
🙌🙌🙌🙌
Feels so good to have gone to HS here and then to see all these tricks that were done in subsequent years. When I was there (99-02), there was only the Birdhouse video.
That’s epic
You’ll see famous athletes sit out for games after a ankle roll but Dave literally banged his head down 9ft foot and got back up like it was nothing, crazy
Legend!
Beast
That’s skateboarding. Most don’t have million dollar contracts to fall back on.
That head bang was brutal😮
@@thegrudgeno. Most just don’t have the balls.
“Oakley Our Life” best and also most underrated video
True!
Ya i was watching dave’s and shecklers’s part all the time
Chris Joslins basically landed tre BUT everyone who was 14 like me in 2007 will NEVER forget bachinskys kickflip. This and hecklers costco gap are the greatest kickflips OF ALL TIME
❤❤❤
Decenzo kickflip over that 9 gap 9 double set is up there
Absolutely. His part around that time was nuts too.
Word. Seeing the Costco gap in person is gnar
What else is amazing is just how good he is at kicking out from such a dangerous height. That’s a whole skill on its own.
🙌🙌🙌
Shit still gives me chills
🙌🙌🙌
I remember that trick back in time it was ridiculous
Still is! 😍😍
and foward😂
I wish people would stop gate keeping joslins 3 flip he landed it
Remember playing his part over and over again in OUR LIFE 💯
💪
Theres probably been more history vidoes of the el toro set than any other spot. This documentary is my favorite. Dave is an animal.
No lies
No offense Torey Pudwill but Chris Joslin Tre flip literally does not count we don’t take those not in a game of skate & definitely not @ el toro you gotta earn THAT!!!
I see it goes both ways, if your board breaks and you roll away we take it? Why not for a truck which literally impairs your riding
@@MRCY223 I would tend to agree with you but not @el toro you have to earn it the spot is to legendary no breaks
Why didn’t he do it again?
@@floppycopy1284 he had said he was satisfied with knowing that he COULD do it. He didn’t go up because at that point it wouldn’t be for him anymore
@@PressureFlipperZ that’s fair! But man it sucks that his truck broke, I’ve never even imagined a truck could brake from skateboarding
Dave's real complete skater , gaps, rails , ledges, transitions... Divine
❤❤❤❤
That tre flip was so good
💪
Dave was always one of my favorites because he could huck insane shit like this AND do insane quarterpipe tricks. I grew up in the middle of nowhere with a terrible skatepark, so I mostly did quarterpipe tricks. I remember finding Bachinkys hubba wheels video and being absolutely mind-blown. That little video still holds up well today even
💪🙌
what an inspiring human being.
❤❤❤❤
The goosebumps on the roll up for the kicklip make. ✨ What an absolute legendary thing to have gone down in skateboarding.
💪🙌
I just want people to know that as gnarly as that kickflip is, Dave is so much more than El Toro, I get that that set made his career but have you seen him skate a mini ramp? He's absolutely fucking insane! Easily top 5 best mini ramp skaters in the world. The dude just all around rules
🙌
Amazing to this day and forever. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Will do!
@7:39 he catches it above the rail even, and then has to drop the rest of the way without it getting away from him. it's downright magical
So good
So thankful you guys created this channel. We finally get a behind the scenes of every great trick and really get an in depth look at what the rider was thinking and what it took. I remember watching skate videos and being blown away and I was like man if I can just interview them about that to get an understanding lol
Thank you!
Dave a legend forever ❤ kickflip still the sickest thing to go down 18 years later & his humility so admirable >>>>
🙌🙌🙌
Love me some Dave Bachinsky, this dude is the definition of core skateboarding!! The fact that he and Manny are tight says all you need to know about his personality and character. Your known by the company you keep. Real ones hang with real ones. Keep shredding dude, love your skateboarding and woodwork forth at matter.
🙌
I felt so happy watching this. I didn’t realize he’s the only flip trick off of it. Bachinsky should be a house hold name
Hell ya
I absolutely love these videos, Storied!
Glad you like them!
Nice work on these history pieces. They're great.
Glad you like them!
What's even crazier is I heard he did it on a 7.5!
❤❤❤❤
I was going to say that board looked so small! especially with the big puffy shoes
Dude everyone rode skinny ass boards in the 2000's. I definitely rode a 7.63 that I was comfortable with and thought 7.75's were too wide lol.
@@10DollarProductions same! 7.63 was my sweet spot. Probably should have been on an 8.5 with my shoe size haha
Miss 7.5 so fucking much. I've finally had to eat shit and take 7.75 but even those are getting rare.
Humble ass dude. Legend! ❤
❣❣❣
This to this day is so fucking gnarly. The bail where he kicks out, lands flat footed, and still gets like 5-6 more is psychotic. His ankles could have snapped on every single one. Dave is a legend.
Yup insane
Joslin tre flip is as close as it gets to landing a flip trick down el torro lets be real with ourselves. Nyjah and Shecks both got broken off trying BS flips but this is still nuts to this day
Very true
Not only did he kickflip el toro but that he did it so clean! One of the nicest kickflips I’ve seen and great roll away. Seems like a great dude too
💪🙌💪
so sick
🙌
What a perfect kickflip, super humble dude. Mad respect!!
Appreciate it!
beautiful catch and landing
🙏
This was cool to watch. Nice seeing Dave back at El Toro!
Thanks!
My favorite kickflip of all times. Not just big but he did it with style!
💪
i love this guy just a guy who loves skateboarding
🙏🙌
The quality is really here Chase and company, please continue! Doing a service to skateboarding creating this excellent of content !! Thank you
Thanks a million!
absolute thing of beauty right there.
🙌
Awesome Chase-love the purity of your series/channel 👊🏻❤️🔥
Glad you enjoy it!
This is forever legendary
Yes
This dude was and is so dam good ❤
Yup
One of the best to ever do it!!!!
Yup
Dave is criminally underrated
True
What a sweet guy
Right?
I randomly bumped into Dave when I was in California back in 2015, I was fanning out so hard and he was so nice to me- I told him I was visiting from Canada escaping the cold weather and he smiled and said “Sunny side up bro!”
After he pushed off some kid next to me was like “Who was that?” And I was like, “That’s Dave Bachinsky- the dude that kickflipped El Toro.” The kid looked at me with wide eyes, I skated off and I heard him behind me say to his friend, “Holy shit that’s the guy who kickflipped El Toro!”
I’ll never forget that haha
Haha sickkk
Really liked this video! Props to Dave for being such a beast and hucking one of the gnarliest tricks in skateboarding ever🤙👊🔥
Thank you!
Amazing!
Thanks!
Every now and then I still get humbled by what’s possible on a skateboard. We are freaks
Insane
Dude is ridiculously genuine 🙌
🙏
I still remember the day when my friend brought a skate mag to school with this on the cover!
🙌💪
Amazing! Daves a legend 🙌
The best
Has to be at or near the top of the list as far as most epic skateboard tricks ever thrown down !!! 18 years later and still iconic as ever.
🙌🙌🙌
Brilliant piece Storied!!! :) Dave is such a legend!! The angle from the top is so crazy too, the way the board just floats beautifully with him and sticks to his feet all the way down Everest to an impossibly seeming smooth landing.... so mental to this day... and how casually he announces that he hit his head!!! always made me LOL... It's like each attempt before the make was just 'a bit of a nuisance' to him rather than a potential months out slam like it would be for nearly everyone else!!!
Thank you!!
Something so special that absolutely sick AF 🔥🔥🔥👌
🙌💪
Big Adio shoes, and a tiny 7.5" board. Really a sign of the times. Honestly the fact he did this on such a thin board makes it even crazier to me.
Haha yup
wow. I wanna see a list of well known sets that have ONLY been kickfliped. his parts always got me juiced. cool dude. love videos like this 👍🏼
Insane right?
He really stomped it too 💯
💪
I remember my friend telling me about this guy from the east coast who supposedly kickflipped el toro. Back then rumors spread about tricks, but you didn't know if anything was true or not until you saw the footage because you had to wait a while until the skate video came out. At best you would see a photo or sequence in a magazine as a teaser for the clip. So we checked out his most recent video parts and one of his hammers was kickflipping a huge set. Somewhere around the 15 or 16 stair mark like Dave talked about. When we saw that, my friend and I both looked at each other and said "I believe it."
💪💪
I love the sound of the bearings mid air so much
So sick
The passage of time is so wild
🙏
The bail where he hit his had was in the Tony Hawk project 8 secret bails video
Wow!
Love it Chase!!
💪🙌
Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
This is why Dave Bachinsky is literally my Fav skater 🛹 ❤❤
🙌🙌
I can't imagine how Joslin felt after breaking his truck and falling off his board. Straight robbery from the skate gods.
True
skateboarding is the coolest thing ever
Truth
Of all the people to expect to do this down this set, this man would’ve been that last one anyone would of thought to do it. What a display of well rounded individual, true controller of the board!!
He is the best
I remember watching this kickflip in high school during computer class. Still get chills seeing this. Also met Dave in New Orleans at a diy long ago. great guy!
Insane
Dave is the best human! Much love Dave :
So rad
Joslins counted 100%. And I’d say sicker then a kick flip but either way I bow to this guys determination.
!!
This was great. I love skateboarding.
❤❤❤❤
I'm 36yrs old and just watching this makes me want to make a comeback lol. I was good locally, didn't care for attention or being in the spotlight.. I remember seeing this when it was released and it made me want to go there just to do a kickflip then a backside flip over it.. I still want to because I know my mind and body. I'm hungry to step it up
So epic
so rad mate
Thanks!
"I had no idea my career would take off, I was just skating"
Dude, real shit right there, any other big gap street skaters out there know exactly what this is, and what I want to see is all the shit we never filmed, cause we were just skating BIG shit in the moment, with no name attached
❤️👍
Probably the greatest single trick to have ever been done in skating
🙌🙌🙌💪
THE best kickflip down anything in my opinion. Not to mention how humble and down to earth Dave is. He deserves more recognition in the skateboarding world to be honest
🙌🙌🙌
9' × 20'. Chills, man. Simply amazing. Great dude. This was awesome 👍👍🍻
Thank you!
The Energy is Still FELT 🙇♂️
🙌
Nobody who hasn't stood on a board and tried some ollies will ever be able to grasp how magical this was.
True!
