    Thanks a lot! My old iPad gets new life. But many questions about Appdaemon config, I dont find any information how to configure custom dashboards. I could only edit preinstalled demo version of HelloWorld inside of Appdaemon

    Hello, I find your video very interesting, thank you very much for it. Can you please tell me how I can get to the "starting website URL" that I have to enter in the kiosk app. I installed and started the AppDaemon in the homeassistant. a short description or maybe a video would be great.

    Great Project! No need to recycle perfectly working devices when we can reuse existing ones.

    Interesting project.. but no details about HOW to install the AppDaemon, or the Kiosk Mode, or the menu system, or how to make the wooden frame.

      Same here. I'm very interested how to install all the stuff. The wooden frame is the easiest part :)
      Many online manuals for AppDaemon aren't that great. A step by step guide would be awesome!

      Sorry Ernest. I was in the same boat when I started. My channel initially intended to be about woodworking, but then I slightly deviate. Regarding the frame, there are various ways too do it, but it all depends on your equipment. I tried to show the idea how the frame can be hold an iPad without any complicated holders. The AppDaemon installation is a huge topic. You can find many tutorials online. Indeed, this may take long time to learn and program. This part is very custom. Even if I show what I did, there is a good chance you need something different. The KioskMode is the simplest part- it is just an option in iPad settings. It helps keeping iPad running one application. If you do not enable this mode, everything will still be fine, except the iPad would look like regular iPad running a browser rather than pretend to be a dedicated device for a specific application.

    Kiosk App doesn't support Ipad 2 minimum Requires iPadOS 12.0 or later. Ipad 2 has OS 9

    Is it okay to stay connected directly and for a long time on the charger?

      I think it is fine. iPad software suppose to be smart enough to stop charging when the battery is fully charged.

    Great video. What can be done to hide the wire altogether? Thank you.

      I did not want drilling the wall. Perhaps I could paint the wire the same paint as the wall…

    Do you think i can reuse my old Ipad 1 ?

    • @woodworkinghobby

      It depends on what you want to display there. Mine is “The New iPad”, which is the first version with Retina display (circa 2012, I think). It is slow on modern web sites, but if the web-site is light, it may work OK. You can try opening the page you want to display in a browser on your iPad and see how it works. The reason I’m using “App Daemon” web page in stead of “Home Assistant” web page is because it is lighter.

    thank you for the video. FYI I got Home Assistant app working on my old iPad 2.

    • @woodworkinghobby
      @woodworkinghobby  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting... I did not try the app, but tried to launch the Home Assistant page using Safari and it did not work. I automatically assumed that the app would not work either... I also did not like that the Home Assistant app would be continuously signed in. It allows too much control over home. In AppDaemon I cherry-pick what to allow to do by the always-on panel. When the Home Assistant app will have better per user control, I might reconsider...

      @@woodworkinghobby I got the idea from your video and figured out how to get HA app on my old ipad 2. So, thank you for giving me the idea to use my old stuff. In HA software you can control what the user login profile see like dashboards, admin rights and more.
