I made an updated version of this video here! Wall Mounted iPad Smart Home Set up! (iPAD controls the WHOLE house!) - 2023 UPDATE! th-cam.com/video/QL4WO3YTXSA/w-d-xo.html
Lutron works all day everyday. They’ve been around a long time and are completely reliable. Smart bulbs are for accent lighting only in my home. The novelty wears off quickly. They also lose wifi sporadically. Especially LIFX.
Good video. I have been using the Lutron Caseta even before I got into home automation. They are a solid device and worth it. A big plus is they do not need a neutral wire in the switch box. I have the hub so I can control them with Home Assistant.
I would recommend that you also put Aqara leak sensors under your refrigerator (for water line to ice maker), dishwasher, washing machine, hot water heater, and HVAC air handler. These are all possible places were a leak could occur and cause water damage.
What APP is this running on iPad please? Thought you said Home Plus but cant find anything of that name other than Home Plus Lite which doesn’t look like it. Did it have a name change? Tks
When you have the camera feed up, does it show live feed constantly or just when you click on a specific camera? Also what outlet did you install behind the wall mount?
Which smart plugs are the best to be used with HomeKit and Google Home Mini. I have just installed my ecobee3 thermostat in my home. I want to add more stuff in my homekit app. I'm currently using tp-link smart plugs. I want to switch to Apple ecosystem that is compatible with Google voice assistant also.
HomePods, Apple TV, or AIrPort devices can be controlled in the Home App. Are you using any of these? If not, you can just control the music from the control panel, by sliding from the top right. While any of these I mentioned are basic music control, like pause/play, previous and next. You can temporarily bring the Apple Music app along with the Home control app showing in split view, when you have to frequently switch songs or manage your up next playing queues, etc.
Did you get an iPad mini 4 or 5? I’ve heard that the iOS 16 coming this summer (2022) may drop support for the mini 4, so I’m not sure if it’ll be great to use it as a HomeKit control panel for long-term. I attempted to use a very-old iPad running iOS 9, but it’s slow, limited feature, and will mess up my HomeKit database. I have a 2yo mini 5 and if this is a better option for a HomeKit panel to use at home, that would be one more reason to convince me to buy a mini 6 to upgrade for primary daily use, lol.
Nice setup. Considering doing this exact same thing Hoobs, SimpliSafe, Lutron, and HomeKit. What Ipad do you have? Do you see any issues with using an older model of the ipad mini?
if structure has concrete walls in between over a larger than 3000 sq feet do you recommend wifi connected system or do you recommend wired system. the structure is yet to be built
I'm going to do the same in my new house, i've got a recessed usb outlet installed like you, however I noticed you pushed the whole outlet so it's flush with the wall. How much gap is there between the ipad and the wall using this mount?
If Apple puts a screen on a HomePod in the future you might not need this. Also, the Home app used to not have the list of rooms as a menu on the side. I don’t know why they introduced this because it looked much cleaner prior to this.
Tbh I’d like to see a HomePod with screen so it can be a HomeKit control center in my, for example, living room. The side bar is a new iOS UI design principle from Apple’s latest Human Interface Guideline updated from recent years. I agree that it’s better if users can hide the side bar just like in the Notes, Safari, or Photos.
I use iWalldock which is now Simplidock. It is a flush mount and I just run a cat6 POE to keep it powered. The new second generation wifi version of WeMo are amazing! Personally they are more esthetically pleasing than the Lutron. The Lutron looks clunky
Nice video! Your setup is very similar to mine. Maintaining a smart home in both Google and HomeKit, Lutron switches, Hoobs to bring in Nest. I haven't setup many sensors yet, but Aqara is the way I will go. I'm using Meross for plugs and a garage door opener, Rachio for Sprinklers, and Level Touch on the front door. Also have Nest Thermostat and smoke alarms. Subscribed to catch your future videos. Cheers.
Hi. What does the icon for that Home app look like so I can make sure I'm installing the correct one? Or can you add the link to that app in the description area?
Could you please elaborate on the wall iPad and how to use a motion sensor to turn it on or off please? I also have a wall mounted iPad and I’d love to know how to use my Philips hue motion sensor to turn the display on or off. Thank you. Great video.
Sure. I have a motion sensor that works with HomeKit. I used shortcuts to set up automation when it see motion it makes a notification. That notification wakes iPad. Then I have iPad turn off after 10mins
@@Techninjaspeaks How did you get the screen to time out? I have set this up and have the notifications on motion, but my screen never times out in Guided Access mode. I think I am missing something, would love to know what/where the settings are for make this all happen.
If my intention to use just my ring app and my Amazon Alexa features do I really need a system like home kit if these items I have on my iPad already .
Nice video, looking into putting an iPad on the wall. I also use Lutron switches and Aqara. I have several Aqara buttons for the family room and office lights. I use the Lutron pico remote stand for the Aqara buttons.
Hi Kevin, did you meet the problem that aqara motion sensor cant trigger Lutron switch if you only use iPad as a hub? How do you make the aqara sensor trigger switch on instant? Thank you in advance.
Can you trigger an indoor camera to record using a separate motion sensor? I am looking to point a camera out a side window to look for deliveries to my front door, and placing a inexpensive motion sensor outside to send back a signal triggering the camera to begin recording (even though the camera may not have detected the motion through the window itself). I am wedded to Homekit, so I’m considering Eve/Thread and Aqara/Zigbee for the save. Vocolinc sold an inexpensive pair of cams but they don’t catch ANYTHING walking past my window, or even through a screen door, with any amount of reliability. :(
@@grantos8276 Have you experienced any issue with your HomeKit system while having older iOS devices connected? My iOS 9 iPads messed up my HomeKit database and always let my HomeKit unusable. Disabled those devices solved the problem. If iOS 12 is solid, I may consider using some old devices as control panels in case I need.
Adding a fireplace control can be dangerous. What if a homeowner was not home and a hacker broke into the network and turned this on and the fire did not ignite? Major catastrophe could happen.
I'd love to do this and repurpose my "old IPad" but having an IPad 4 with a nice mini monitor-sized screen (version 10.3.3, that refuses to upgrade) I can say don't waste your time. It will not upgrade, no monitoring or camera software will load or run. I've tried dozens of TH-cam walk throughs, nothing works. And even if you don't have an old one, eventually the same thing will happen, it will be unsupported as all the software upgrades and your hardware won't.... and become useless. I'll save you the frustration, here's what to do. Chuck it in the garbage. Close the lid. And never buy an I-Pad again.

Home Depot.
Do you still use this set up?

The built-in Home app should be pre-installed on all iOS 10+ devices. It can also be downloaded from the App Store for free.
What app do you used again home plus app not available in appstore
How did you hide the cord?
The outlet is right behind the iPad and the cord is covered by the frame.

You should have used POE, aka run Ethernet to the iPad so you can get better internet connection
Poe it’s always great option. But I’m my current house this isn’t a option I can use. My MESH Wi-Fi has no problems with a connection though.
you can get some smart relay to stop the iPad charging when it`s about 80%
Anyone have the link for the iPad mount ? Couldn’t find it on Amazon
How you keep charging I pad constantly
Nice! what app do you use?
Since the ipad was wall mounted is always plug for power supply, isnt it bad for the battery health of the ipad?
I suppose it would be, but if that’s it’s only purpose it probably doesn’t matter🤷♀️
