If im staying near/ in durago or the near by area, ill roll one sit somewhere pretty and watch how life used to be, watching these magnificent machines passing by
@@up844productions8 That certainly would be true. It came off 478 and was put on 473 for Railfest 2006 to recreate the 1951 painted train is all I am certain of.
Nope; I had to ride the train with that thing back in 2010. They fixed it when 484 went back into service in late 2011 after being out for most of the season, and the year after changed it to a B&O 3 chime.
Why the modern synthetic crossing bells instead of the old ding ding ones? Doesn't anyone make the older bells anymore? I noticed a lot of crossings on regular railroads like class 1's and even regional and short lines have them. Are they the new standard for bells? They ring at a slower rate than the old metal bells with a clapper.

Hotdawgfilms thank you I want to go to both of them but I think I'm more with the cumbres and Toltec (I've know the Durango and silverton for years but I think I would like to go to the c&ts as I think it sounds for exciting and travels longer)
I liked c&ts because they let me spend the entire time out side right behing the steam locomotive. Both are nice though. I would do both, but c&ts I think is more laid back.
Is it possible to get some of this steam train audio and whistles from you to use it in a music recording I am doing in Denver? Please let me know. Thanks.
2:36 My god that whistle sounds amazing from behind.
what are you talking about! That one sounds good from the front and the back

489 has an AT&SF 6 chime that’s been confirmed by a lot of people. However sister loco 480 ended up with a SP 6 chime in 2021 and it sounds great
484 has a Detroit Toledo and Ironton 5 chime ever since the old D&rgw five cracked.

#489 has a deep and serious like whistle.
473 has the best whistle because of how raspy and beautiful it sounds(1:00). I also like 486's because it speaks the true language of Durango! (5:55)
TSGz FEISTY 486 has the most stereotypical Rio Grande whistle ever
Don't you think 486's whistle sounds very similar to this one? th-cam.com/video/G1BOfFSbobM/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=nelsonenriqueacerorojas
Great job with the video and I really liked hearing the sounds of the whistle of those tourist line steam engines a lot. So keep up the good work.
number 473 has the same whistle on jersey Central 113.
The #489 whistle sounds buff
Well it is an ATSF 6 chime
@@slanderedstone no it's a SP 6 chime according to Issac Rodriguez
@@atlantis0v-104Nope it's a ATSF 6 Chime whistle
her reading 6 chime is better
I love those Rio Grande 5 chimes.
If im staying near/ in durago or the near by area, ill roll one sit somewhere pretty and watch how life used to be, watching these magnificent machines passing by
My favorite scene as at 3:16, nice fast Rythmatic chugging from that thing
iv actually gone faster on the C&TS the exhaust rythm at those speeds just sounds amazing
LOVE 486's whistle
No. 482 also occasionally has a Powell 3 chime equipped. Sounds better than the 6 chime imo.
No, that NYC Longbell 6 Chime deserves to be back on 482 unless it was stolen by one of the fired D&SNG employees!
Thanks, Zack. I needed that. It's been a long winter...
the locomotives were verry cool.
nice 6-chimer at the end!
Great video !!! Thanks for sharing it.
Love the D&RGW 3 chime on 473!
Man thats my steam fix for the month! Awesome job dude :)
great video - 473 has the best whistle of all.
Jim Richardson I approve
D&RGW Flat Top Passenger whistle. It was put on when she was repainted into bumble bee to sound like the 1951 bumble bee whistle.
The 473 has that lonesome sound to it, Love it Greatly!!
@@jacobwoods8738 you sure about that one cause i heard from the D&S themselves its a custom three chime not sure who made it tho
@@up844productions8 That certainly would be true. It came off 478 and was put on 473 for Railfest 2006 to recreate the 1951 painted train is all I am certain of.
Am I the only one who wants to take #484's whistle and bash it into the ground?
Nope, its not that pleasant sounding is it?
Nope; I had to ride the train with that thing back in 2010. They fixed it when 484 went back into service in late 2011 after being out for most of the season, and the year after changed it to a B&O 3 chime.
484 now has 497's old whistle. It sounds amazing!!!
2017 update: 484 gets 488’s whistle and 488 gets 497’s whistle.
That whistle 484 had in this video does sound better for a steam paddleboat than a K36 locmotive!
This is wonderful
489 has the best whistle in my opinion
i like it to
the AT&SF 6 chime is the best whistle out of them all im honored to get to siound that amazing whistle at all road crossings
@@up844productions8 You ever since 2000, 481 had 489's whistle on the D&S.
@@EDWARDSAful no I didn't know that
@@up844productions8 Starting in 1981 and ending at about 1995, 481 had that 6 chime. Then it was 473's turn to have it on.
nice work Zack
number 473 has a good whistle
what kind of chime is that 2:37?
It's a D&RGW 5 chine sounds good too
Lima 5 Chime
awesome video(except 484)!! really cool

Agreed. I like the mechanical bell sound much better!
But I think unfortunately the electronic bells have become the new standard these days.
8:14 that guy threw you something
478 sounds like the generic rio grande whistle :P xD
I can't decide which one is the best the cumbres and toltec scenic or durango and silverton narrow gauge I would like to vist one of them but which one do you prefer
TrainMan 555 I prefer the Cumbres and Toltec. But both are amazing, try to go to both if you can.

To reduce environmental pollution, Steam Loco should be replaced by Diesel Loco
Damn I miss coal fired NG steam engines.
